Terrible experience overall. Something as simple as sign-up, referral credits, and billing should be straightforward, but instead it’s been a complete mess. We continue to be incorrectly charged, have had to repeat ourselves multiple times, and the issues remain unresolved.

The management here is terrible — there is no accountability or proper follow-through. On top of that, the gym is constantly overcrowded, making it hard to enjoy the facilities.

For the price Equinox charges, the lack of expertise and customer service is unacceptable. I would not recommend this location.

Doesn't offer day passes to the general public. Nice clean facilities some equipment is broken and or unusable. Staff needs work in hospitality. I generally
received a condescending attitude when asked about different equipment and how to use it. Any type of heavy or complex movement like Olympic lifting was discouraged.

I’ve been a member of Equinox for over a decade. Recently started coming to this particular club, aside from the large space, great parking the club isn’t up to par to the rest. You’ll find the men’s locker room filled with clothes (no one utilizes the free lockers) and the sauna and steam room is ridiculously filthy with people coming in and out dressed fully in their sweaty gym gear and shoes. Maintenance staff doesn’t seem to care much in regards to cleanliness. You’ll also find people recording with full blown camera equipment and tripods on the workout floor with little to no privacy to be found anywhere. Ultimately it’s the managements job to assure people are getting what they pay for considering these gyms are not cheap.

I come here about 3/4 times a week. I’ve visited about six locations before making this the one I wanted. Traffic never there if you go close to opening. They just made all the lockers into the self lock ones and they are brand new. My only thing I would love is if it had a bigger steam room, since it’s smaller than other locations. But love how I can workout inside, outside or even go to the pool. It’s always clean too.

A Sanctuary of Sweat and Serenity: Five Stars for Equinox South Bay!

Equinox South Bay in Hawthorne is, without a doubt, a cut above the rest. From the moment you step through the doors, you're not just entering a gym; you're entering a meticulously curated experience dedicated to well-being. This isn't just where I work out, it's where I unwind, push my limits, and truly invest in myself.

The facilities are absolutely pristine. Every piece of equipment, from the state-of-the-art cardio machines to the extensive free weights, is always impeccably maintained and readily available. The studios for classes are spacious and inviting, and the locker rooms are more akin to a high-end spa—spotlessly clean, well-stocked with premium products, and offering a truly luxurious post-workout refresh.

What truly sets Equinox South Bay apart, however, is the atmosphere and the staff. The team here is consistently friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. Whether it's the welcoming front desk, the knowledgeable personal trainers, or the motivating group fitness instructors, everyone contributes to an incredibly positive and encouraging environment. The energy in classes is infectious, and you feel supported no matter your fitness level.
Speaking of classes, the variety and quality are exceptional. From high-intensity interval training to invigorating yoga and Pilates, there's something for everyone, and the instructors are truly masters of their craft. They challenge you, inspire you, and make every session feel rewarding.

Equinox South Bay isn't just a gym; it's a community and a commitment to a healthier, happier lifestyle. If you're looking for an unparalleled fitness experience in the South Bay, look no further. It's worth every penny!

Very disappointed with this gym and now Im glad I made the right decision to not sign up. Before even officially signing up as a member, I gave this gym weeks in advance notice that Im not interested to sign up but thanks anyway, yet they charged me membership fee. No one acknowledged my messages after hearing that I’m not interested to become a member. As a result, I was charged on an old bank account I no longer use, plus an overdraft fee! For a luxury gym, they sure have the same lack of admin service as those cheap gyms. I would’ve share my feedback with their management instead, but why should I bother when they will ignore it anyway.

I came to this gym thinking of getting a membership. Wayne gave me a tour and a day pass so I can try out the facility! Everything was beautiful and very clean. While on the stair master my phone fell and somehow went into the machine! I was panicked, the team and Maria the maintenance manager worked very hard to retrieve my phone for me! The customer service was great, this, plus the amenities and classes make this gym an elite fitness atmosphere. I highly recommend this location with the sauna, steam room, outdoor workout area, and rooftop pool!

I’ve been to quite a few gyms in my time, and I must say, this one rather stands out from the crowd. It’s modern, spacious, and refreshingly well-kept. A bit of a gem, really. From the moment you walk in, there’s a sense that someone actually cares about the place. The floors are spotless, the equipment gleams, and there’s always that faint but reassuring smell of eucalyptus or some sort of spa-esque freshness in the air. Honestly, it's probably the cleanest gym I’ve ever set foot in.

The machines are plentiful and thoughtfully laid out, which means you’re not constantly hovering awkwardly while waiting for someone to finish their last set of bicep curls. There is a flow to the space that makes working out feel less like a chore and more like, well, a slightly sweaty sort of leisure activity. Even at peak times, it never feels crammed.

Parking, you ask? Absolute dream. None of that driving around in circles nonsense. Just ample space and easy access. The kind of luxury that makes you want to applaud when you pull in.

Now, full disclosure, I was once slightly put off by the trainers' overly enthusiastic approach. You know the type, friendly, smiley, and just so eager to help you with your form. Then, suddenly, the conversation would pivot into a pitch for personal training sessions. It always felt less like a suggestion and more like a polite ambush. That said, I don’t blame the trainers themselves. They seemed like decent people, just clearly under pressure to sell. Fortunately, that energy seems to have toned down recently. Or, at the very least, it has become a little more organic.

All in all, I’ve come to really enjoy my time here. It’s a far cry from the cramped, chaotic gyms of old. If you're after a well-equipped, clean, and properly run facility that lets you train in peace, this place ticks all the boxes. Just remember to smile politely if someone offers you a "free fitness assessment".

I usually go to the West Hollywood and Miracle Mile Equinox locations, but I recently visited the South Bay location and was really impressed. I had some questions about membership options and needed assistance with a few things, and Ashlynn, the manager, was incredibly helpful. She answered all my questions efficiently and went out of her way to make sure I was taken care of.

The place is spotless, and the staff is friendly and professional. You can really tell the difference her leadership makes. It would be great to see this level of service at my usual spots too! Equinox should definitely consider sending her to improve other locations.

I’ve been a member for a few months. Mostly good, kinda crowded when I go but w/e nice bathrooms.

My one star is strictly because as of recently why tf IS IT SO HOT IN THERE???? Why turn off the AC??? No offense but “hot” work outs so you can sweat is a niche preference it makes working out miserable. In the morning, 90% of us are heading to work in business casual, we are going from the sweat box of the gym floor to the steamy bathrooms to a HOT California summer in business casual, it’s UNCOMFORTABLE af please turn on the AC or advertise that you keep your gym floor sauna temperatures so people know, would not have joined if this was the case

This is a nice facility but it gets so crowded and messy that it gets depleted and I don't feel like I'm getting my almost $300/month worth.
Oftentimes that all the hand towels are gone in the workout areas, and even more often the bath towels become depleted. There are several shower stalls where the soaps are empty. This poor maintenance is a sign of faulty management.

This gym has one of the WORST customer service I’ve ever seen. I went in to try and purchase a membership only to be told that the reps don’t come in till 8:30. It’s now 8:40 and they are still not here. The front desk girl didn’t even accommodate us in any way despite waiting for over 45 minutes. You need to start training your employees better for customers that are wanting to pay for a service. I also see that reviews show this place isn’t kept up with mold all over the bathroom showers. Nothing but negative things to say about this place. You lost 2 members that wanted to get a membership.

Post AND survey acknowledge by owner (about 3 weeks ago) by owner and teams CC’d by their owner. Yet nothing has been done regarding this issue; other than their “we value our members feedback and take issues seriously and rectify promptly” blah blah blah deescalation excuse.

Out here playing in people faces and taking their money, and not cleaning anything!

——————————————————————

For a”Luxury” gym … Not sure what’s up with the cleaning standards at this location. ESPECIALLY for the price members pay!!! This gym can quite affordably clean and fix issues. Having since restarted the gym towards end of January these mold spots have been there … and has clearly no attempt has been made to clean them (literally all the showers in the men’s locker room). I do understand moisture propagates mold growth. However, it is the facilities responsibility to clean with the appropriate methods for obvious health reasons.

In addition, it is beyond me that refilling the shampoo, conditioner, face wash and body wash that has OBVIOUS bacterial growth and biofilm, that these bottles aren’t being replaced.

This facility and management should be ashamed to allow this to be happening. Cleaning standards should be revamped bc watering down showers is not enough!!!

Shoutout to Brennen (Membership Advisor) who assisted me during the sign up process. He was great and explained everything I needed to know.
I’d also like to give all the praise to Maria Garcia and Marzena Janasik - they are the best (overall) group class instructors I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. They take the workout session very seriously, pay close attention on how students perform their movements and are great at queueing.
Overall, this is definitely one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to.

I went to both the MDR and South Bay locations collectively for several years. The facility itself is great, the people are top notch, and it's definitely an excellent place to work out.

Having said all that, I am writing a negative review because their accommodations for childcare are limited and, most importantly, they rely on shady, archaic contract terms to lock people into memberships with them, even if they don't want them or can no longer effectively use them.

MDR closed down their Kids Club during the pandemic and it never returned. South Bay's Kids Club is still open, but the hours are largely incompatible with working parents, with the exception of Saturday from 8-12, which tends to fill up very quickly and cost an additional $20/visit. You need to book Kids Club in advance through the app, but it often reaches capacity OR the app occasionally bugs out and doesn't let you reserve even when there is capacity, resulting in multiple visits to the gym only to be turned away due to insufficient capacity.

Since my membership with Equinox used to be through a partner (GymPass), my tenure with the gym didn't count towards their "introductory period," meaning that when their partnership with GymPass ended and I needed to go through them directly, I was required to maintain my membership with them for another year, regardless of whether or not I had the ability or desire to use that membership more than a couple times per month.

Due to only being able to make it over to the gym 1-2x/mo, I attempted to cancel my membership. I explained to them that I had been with Equinox for several years, enjoyed going there, but wasn't able to make use of my membership beyond the 1-2x/mo, so it didn't make sense to continue paying $200+/mo for a membership I couldn't use. They told me, sorry, you still have to maintain membership for another 4 months because we have a 1 year contract on you, no exceptions. My previous tenure with Equinox through GymPass didn't count for anything--they had a contract that locked me in, so they were determined to enforce it on technicality, with zero goodwill towards me despite my history with them. I even experienced an injury after a HIIT class with them that set me back about 3 weeks of non-usage after injury to my ankle but didn't think to pause my membership for medical reasons--I was a member and that's giving goodwill to the business to not try to take advantage the second something isn't working. I would have hoped they would extend the same type of courtesy and goodwill in return.

Equinox is great if you both want to use it and can make use of it--as I mentioned, they have great equipment, some excellent classes, and the steam room is excellent. However if they think it's good business to force people to pay them in excess of $200/mo when they aren't even using their membership, they lost my respect and I no longer consider renewing with them if/when my circumstances change and I'd be able to go back.

Equinox--you're right, you got a contract on me stipulating that you have me and my significant other trapped to keep paying you guys $200+/mo each for a remainder of $1,600 total between the two of us for service after the date we asked to cancel--you can take our money, but we are not coming back after this treatment.

Equinox--if you want to make my money, it should be in exchange for use of your service. If you have to leverage contract terms that force me to commit my money to you even if I no longer want the service, that's no way to do business in 2024, and I will not forget this.

I am writing this so that if you plan to join up with Equinox, while it's a great place to work out, be aware you will be subject to shady dinosaur-era contract terms they use to trap people into paying them money that they frankly didn't earn.

"Disappointing Customer Service at Equinox South Bay Gym"

I am normally reserved when it comes to writing reviews, but my recent experience at Equinox Gym in South Bay has compelled me to share my thoughts.

There's no denying that Equinox boasts some of the best fitness facilities around, but what truly makes a gym stand out is its staff. Unfortunately, the level of customer service I received from two employees, Danny (female) and Tiffany, was far from satisfactory.

I made an early morning trip to the gym, arriving at 5 a.m., expecting a smooth and speedy check-in process to maximize my workout time. However, Danny and Tiffany were less than accommodating. Their approach was not only unprofessional but also lacked the basic courtesy you would expect from employees of a reputed establishment like Equinox.

There was a distinct lack of urgency shown by the concierge’s both Danny and Tiffany, who seemed more interested in their personal conversation than in assisting me with my check-in. They were dismissive and unresponsive to my questions, and it took an unnecessarily long time to figure out the issue just to be turned away and not granted access to the gym for a billing error on their end.

As a paying member of Equinox, I feel let down by the lack of professionalism and customer service demonstrated by these two employees. It's disheartening to see that despite the high membership fees, the level of customer service does not match the premium that Equinox charges.

In conclusion, a gym is more than its equipment and facilities; it's about the people who run it. I hope Equinox South Bay can improve its customer service, particularly in the early hours of the day, to better serve its dedicated members. For now, I'm left feeling disenchanted and considering other fitness options.

Great space, great staff, great workout facility- but the locker room still requires you to bring your own lock to secure your locker. Is it 1992? Makes it unreasonable to visit this studio as a socal access member when in the southbay because I don’t carry a spare lock on my keychain. Front desk didn’t have any for “rent” either. Gotta update this issue for the modern member.

I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the facility and all it has to offer. From the moment I stepped in, I could tell that a lot of thought and effort had gone into making the gym a welcoming and comfortable place to work out.

The spacious layout of the gym is fantastic, and I appreciate the abundance of cardio machines available for use. The variety of classes offered is also impressive, catering to all levels of fitness. The availability of free weights and machines is also great, as it allows for a well-rounded workout. I particularly enjoyed the outside workout deck, which provides a unique workout experience.

The pool area is also fantastic, and I found it to be a great place to unwind after a workout. The hot sauna and steam room were an added bonus, and I appreciated having access to these amenities.

The personal training has truly been the standout feature for me. Steven is an excellent trainer who pushes his clients to reach their full potential. I appreciate that he challenges me and doesn't let me get too comfortable, which has helped me see significant improvements in my fitness level.

Lastly, the ample parking is a definite plus, but as you mentioned, it would be great to see some EV chargers installed in the future.

Overall, I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a comprehensive fitness experience. With its spacious layout, wide range of equipment and classes, and excellent personal training, it truly has something for everyone. Keep up the fantastic work!

This gym is extraordinary. I keep recommending it to everyone. My experience has been 100% positive every time I go.
All the teachers and all the staff are very supportive, respectful, knowledgeable, happy and fun. They all make you feel home at the gym. The place is always impecable and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms always have high quality products available to use.

I am honestly very particular to join gyms. I like to do sports at the beach and I love playing Beach Tennis. It’s been 9 years since I don’t find a gym that makes me want to workout and be active in-doors. Now I’m working out 6-7 times a week sometimes even twice a day.

All the teachers and the staff are outstanding but I want to give special thanks to the following:

Maria Garcia’s class is actually the reason I joined the gym in the first place. She is so inspiring and her class is challenging but at the same time feels good in the body, during and after. I feel taken care of both physically and mentally, I feel up-lifted after her class.

2. Andre Fox, my membership advisor is very kind, professional and welcoming. He always answers my questions right away. He makes me feel supported and heard.

3. Bibi Mama, my trainer is absolutely amazing! She is so professional, knowledgeable, dedicated, creative, positive, fun, inspiring, encouraging and I can immediately feel and see the results in my body, after every session. I arrive full of pain in my joints and leave feeling brand new and full of energy. She is a gem! I feel so nurtured and loved after her sessions.

4. Nupeir’s class is simply superb! The best dance class I have ever taken and I have been taking dance classes since I was 4 years old. His system is very original, fun, easy but challenging at the same time, calorie burner, energizer and it makes you feel cool. His energy and groove are out of this world. I feel so fortunate after his class.

5. Shazi’s class is magnificent! I love the concept of Yoga but it’s ussually so painful for me and kind of boring. Shazi made me love Yoga after so many years of trying it. He is not only focused on the body but on the mind and soul. I feel so regenerated and happy after his class.

6. Puja’s Sound Bath is supreme! Her energy, love for serving and extraordinary talent make me feel blessed and connected with love after her class.

Thanks to everyone at this gym! Keep on giving a wonderful service.

Never been to this gym, but the parking is so horrible. They do not have stop signs which is required for all parking lots. And they’re customers are so reckless that they don’t even pay attention to traffic laws. Yielding is required when it’s a two way entrance. I’ve almost been T-boned by so many people going to this gym and clinic and they are seriously looking for a lawsuit. I don’t put all the blame on their customers but I do blame this gym and healthcare partners for not putting safety regulations in their parking lots. And yes I have taken different ways to get to my destination because of this situation.

I had to add to an existing review of mine that was about billing. This just needed to be up here along with that. You can read that after this: I know that this may be hard for some to believe but this is not an exaggeration to get a reaction. I was headed to a shower stall and went to hang my towel up on the hook and as I look up I see a Roach as big as a dollar bill!!!! No joke seriously as BIG as a dollar bill. I literally had to stare at if for several seconds because I though it wasn't real at first and then I saw the little(or BIG) creatures antenna moving around. Wow... My favorite Gym has lost so much over the last 5 years it's sad. The people there now have no respect and leave dirty stuff everywhere. Razors and towels all over the bathroom and shower. Dudes are staring at me in the locker room, making me uncomfortable, and Im a dude. Now I know how women feel. And now back to the original post- Have had several issues in the past with billing. My wife cancelled her membership and management said it was taken care of.... two month later we were still getting billed. Had to go down again and they took care of it, reimbursing her for the two months. Also about two years ago I had to freeze my account for knee surgery for 9 months. In month two they decided to start charging me again for no reason and they did not reimburse me for all the overcharges because I didn't notice for 4 months, and, they wasted hours of my time. I have been very dissatisfied with these two incidents but its close to home and I like the outdoor pool, so I stay.

Was so disapointed with my experience at the famous Equinox. I was very much interested in joining the gym. As a 24 hours member, I craved a gym not only with clean and new equipment but also with actual good group fitness classes. I love to spin, and the spin classes at 24 are horrible. I usually go to soul cycle for my spin kick, but I was hoping to get the gym equipment and group classes all in one, by joining Equinox. I came in contact with a sales advisor, told him I wanted to try a spin class. He gave me the time, told me he would send me electronic confirmation for the class reservation, and would be looking forward to meeting me that Saturday morning. Well I never received an email. The morning of, I called the gym to inquire about my supposed spot in the class, and come to find out it doesn't exist. I still drive to the gym, struggle in their small parking lot, and finally make it to the front desk. The girls were not particularly helpful, they kept giving me blank stares, and when things finally got a little clearer, they informed that the sales advisor that I was in communication with was out that day. So they set me up with another sales advisor, and she gave me a tour. I was extremely underwhelmed. The marketing images advertise the facility as a top notch luxurious gym, but it was so basic and plain. The machines were outdated, they worked but I expected more than some outworn equipment. The space felt very congested and small, and aesthetically speaking it was boring. The fitness rooms were basic, the spin room was basic and the layout of the cardio equipment was weird. The yoga room was nice, and the locker room was the only section of the facility that I felt reflected a luxurious experience. That's it. Either way I stayed worked out until I could join the next spin class, and once again was disappointed. The instructor wasn't bad, but she wasn't good either. I really tried to give this placea shot, but I couldn't justify the membership cost with what you are actually given. I will continue to go to my 24 hours Hawaiian gardens location, and buy separate soul cycle classes on the side.

Ben Villers the Membership Advisor was very friendly and gave me a trial pass which helped me make my decision in joining Equinox South Bay. This Equinox location is a great facility. Very clean, has the amenities, all the equipment I need, and a very friendly staff. I recommend this gym and if you need contact in the gym just ask Ben and he will help you out.

MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME LOL!! Equinox is the best!! The staff are super friendly, Earth Bar has delicious smoothies, acai bowls, yogurt parfaits, and the gym is always extremely clean!! I go for a few hours nearly every day, and finish my workout with the steam room and a nice shower! I LOVE Equinox, and having been to other locations, I've made this one my preferred gym! The only down fall with this location is you have to bring your own lock, and then carry around your key throughout your workout or in the steam room / shower. Aside from that, this place is the BEST!!

I am a new member here at Equinox, South Bay. Rodney Todd, one of the personal trainers, has made my experience here one of the most positive I have ever experienced at a gym. He not only helped me get back to the gym after my free couple private lessons but as well did his job with the utmost sincerity and distinction. His positive attitude, attention to detail, and impactful workout methods definitely changed all previous bad notion of customer service here, into good ones.

To tell you the truth, I did have a really bad experience a couple Saturdays ago the lady working the front desk was very rude to me. I had arrived around 9:45 pm, which I know it was late and you were about to close in 15 mins, I didn't know the steam room closes as I am a new member. I apologized for coming late as notified her I will be real quick, but the lady up front gave me a sarcastic answer as if I was wasting her time and keeping her on longer. This was my second time here and I had no clue the steam room closes 15 min early, but she made me feel as If I were committing murder. I remember I had a question about the treadmills from last time as I guess 2 machines I was attempting to use where broken. Her reply was very underwhelming and rude.

But long story short. Todd was upstairs and he introduced himself and told me to take advantage of my free 2 sign up lessons. He was extremely nice and professional and made me feel a whole lot more comfortable in the gym after that bad previous experience. As well he is a very good salesman by providing help regardless of the lessons or not. Truly setting the standard for customer service there at Equinox.

I RECOMMEND RODNEY AS YOUR PERSONALLY TRAINER!! IF YOU ARE A NEW MEMBER, AND YOU WANT TO GET A CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTATED YET EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE PERSON, CHOOSE HIM AS YOUR PT FOR YOUR 2 COMPLIMENTARY WORKOUTS. Don't be shy he is very nice and welcoming and will not judge you for being out of shape!! Call the Front desk, they will know his number and you will not regret the true EQUINOX hospitality that you are paying for.

This gym has changed my life for the better. The facility is beautiful, extremely clean and well-maintained. The classes are varied, challenging and fun. Staff has been nothing but pleasant and polite to me, the gym is never crowded (even during rush hour), parking is plentiful and no need for validation, and the amenities are to die for. My only regret is not joining this gym a lot sooner.

I love doing yoga here, precision running classes, and they have so many options for group fitness classes. Expensive, but when you go five days a week and twice a day it makes it worth it.

Not worth the money. The staff has an attitude. Machines are always broken, Classes are just OK. They can't compete with local circuit and yoga studios. The place is nice and recently went throughout much needed remodeling which the memberships pay for. Save your money. You have a ton of choices in the South Bay.

Great gym! Classes are plentiful and varied. I've belonged to several gyms across the country and this is at the top of my list. Kudos to the group fitness director Skip Jennings (and my front desk fave Sasha). Worth the price!

Just wanted to take a quick minute and say thank you to the Equinox Staff, especially two trainers, Ashley Mangiarano and Bob Ratliff, as well as their GM Joel Vroom and Angelica Justiniano.

I recommend this Equinox for several reasons.

1) The staff remembers who you are! They often greet you by name... i.e. Freddie at the front desk and Nestor (personal trainer) when he is on floor duty.

2) The training staff, especially Ashley Mangiarano, takes time to listen to your goals and provide a personalized plan. Not just a 1 solution fits all approach.

3) As part of the initial training intake, Bob Ratliff - Fitness Manager, helped me identify that I had high blood pressure (luckily - quickly remedied by changing allergy medications)

4) The GM - Joel Vroom, and AGM - Angelica Justiniano helped my wife and I get setup with guest passes to Equinox in Lincoln Park, Chicago. This was wonderful as we needed a place to release our tensions and stress as we were in town helping my family with my Mother who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has since passed.

5) The spa, especially Kyle Flocchini, gives top notch service! If you need a massage for relaxation or to help with working out sore muscles ... I highly recommend Kyle.

Please keep remembering that fitness and health is a people business and not just a business. The personalized touch and support is what will make Equinox and it's staff a continued success and my wife and I as loyal customers.

I used to go to the Spectrum down the street (now known as The Bay Club or whatever), but now I go to Equinox as it is best gym ever. I never have to wait for a squat rack or a bench and there's lots of eye candy.

My mom went here previously and this is the shadiest place I've ever heard of. She's the nicest woman you'll ever meet, and eventually she found a gym membership to be out of her budget. So she asked one of the employees to cancel her membership. Then a month later she followed up with a manager to confirm, but he said her membership was never cancelled. She didn't want to deal with it, so fast forward 6 months and now a collection agency says she owes $300 to them. How can even the manager let this slide?
