A picture is worth a thousand words… management has been notified over the last year of ongoing concerns regarding cleanliness and member safety. Nothing has been done. From feces on a chair for over two hours to mold in showers and soiled towels. Yet we face increased dues and reduce quality of service and facilities. Pay more, get less. No longer the Sports Club of the old days. This place has the potential to be the best in the city. Management doesn’t seem to care.

Installations are amazing! They have the roof top, cold plunge, pool and they use to have good classes/instructors. My fav class was Nicole Steen (amazing wonderful instructor!) but suddenly they took it out of the schedule! They have an amazing pool but you can not use it, if you go by night there is an old women blowing her nose in the pool (manager has been alerted so many times but would do nothing about!) if you go by day you will see all the boogers swimming around. In less than a year they increased my membership 10 usd cause this dirty women women uses like 50 towels each visit affecting everyone! Cold plunge is some times disgustingly dirty! Hot tub remain always my last watery option and last time it wasn’t working!!!! Still basket ball court, squash court and gym are amazing! I wish I could use the pool and I wish they put a paddle court on the roof! Staff is 5 stars Marianne at the door, the two cleaning women at the lockers that have been there for a long time, the women in the pool, everyone!! I liked this place for the classes but recently there is no good options for me.

They really could do better for an Equinox.
The maintenance is terrible — the showers are dirty and clearly cleaned only once a day. I guess. There’s always a ton of hair on the floor and walls, which makes it pretty unpleasant (and even scary) to go in.
The sauna is barely warm; you have to sit there for half an hour to feel any heat, and it doesn’t smell good either.
They also removed the plastic bags from the lockers, so now you have to bring your own to store a wet swimsuit or sweaty clothes. Cutting costs this way feels ridiculous for a gym that charges premium prices.
They used to offer Kiehl’s amenities, but now there’s some generic brand that’s nowhere near the same quality.
The classes are mediocre, and some instructors play such terrible music that your head starts to hurt.
Overall, the membership costs way more than other gyms, but the service and maintenance are far below expectations. Definitely not worth the price.

I’ve been a loyal Equinox member, but this experience has been unacceptable. In Palo Alto, an employee took my box during my knee rehab workout without explanation, and I never received a refund. Later, when I tried to get another pass, my account was locked. I spoke with an employee who said I’d get a call back in 10–15 minutes — over an hour later, no one ever called.

The customer service has been horrible: no follow-up, no accountability, and no urgency to resolve basic issues. It’s frustrating because I genuinely enjoy the gym and the facilities, but it’s hard to train effectively when management can’t provide timely solutions or consistent communication.

I signed up for a membership and later downgraded, but was locked out of my account with no access during the process. The refund took far too long to process. Equinox needs a better system in place for managing membership changes and customer communication — it was a frustrating experience overall.

I’m in shock at how far down the dumpster this gym has gotten. Management is absent. I’ve now had three different items stolen at different periods of time including two pairs of workout shoes, & my gym bag. The crowd here has gone downhill as well everyone litters their trash everywhere. The women that go into the sauna are so disrespectful and litter everywhere. They even use the sauna as a drying rack for their swimwear oftentimes leaving stench of CHLORINE in the sauna for members to inhale which isn’t healthy. Management does nothing about this. Members are constantly stealing the shower shampoo, lotions, you name it. I’m resorting to cancelling my membership and going elsewhere because this place is a joke. So disappointed in the management that is lacking here….

I went to this location during a business trip so not my home location. But it’s so big, I got lost and almost missed my class trying to find the roof workout area, which by the way is also huge. The classes are great and the vibes are great. Locker room also huge. Food in the cafe was healthy and delicious. All the staff interacted with were great. What more do you want in a gym? I’ll definitely come back when I’m in town.

Not a great experience here. Was accosted by equinox staff (on the way in to pick up a breakfast burrito at the public restaurant) for my driver’s license… I didn’t have it on me at the time. Didn’t realize that was a pre-rec for picking up food from a restaurant 😂
Anyway, it was a whole ordeal. Staff was extremely rude, yelled at me, and wouldn’t give their names. Not the way I wanted to start my morning. I ended up getting in contact with the equinox GM, and she was apologetic. She made it seem like she will make sure this doesn’t happen again.
Long story short- go to corner, la prime cafe, sobuneh or any of the other breakfast burrito spots in the area. They all know how to treat customers with respect & quality service.

I love this gym. It has everything you want to work out with, plus excellent classes, a spa, a hairdresser, a little restaurant, and, my favorite, cold plunges on the rooftop.
It also has amenities like towels, soap, shampoo, etc, the locker rooms are really clean and in the gym area they have cold towels that smell wonderful.

★ 2

Not a great experience here.

The lack of a month to month option your first year is unfortunate and caused me to be locked in for 12 months. The gym gets very crowded, especially on the weekends. The equipment seems very outdated, especially compared to newer gyms like John Reed which is also half the price.

I joined mainly to utilize the cold plunges, however, almost every time I went to use them they were out of order or in use by other members.

The rooftop “playground” is a cool concept however this area is very poorly maintained. Most of the equipment on the roof is severely rusted, particularly the rowers. Large puddles form on the pickleball court after rain, with no staff bothering to sweep or clean.

I also got called out by a trainer for taking an urgent call on the gym floor. There is a no phone policy and in an age where we are all reliant upon technology, this just seems kind of ridiculous. I did feel like I was being picked on, especially when other members are constantly talking on the phone while working out without consequence.

Overall I regret joining this gym and am happy to be leaving.

I’ve been a member here for over a year and this is the equinox on the west side. The lobby is massive with plenty of space to work, eat, or watch sports on the TVs. Dialog cafe is 10/10 for food and smoothies post-work out. I personally prefer having Dialog over earth bar because of how many options they have. The gym itself is on the older side compared to the other equinox’s, but you can’t beat the amount of space at this location. Even when it’s busy, there are multiple areas you can go for more space whether it’s cardio, free weights, etc. The gym and locker rooms are always clean and stocked with everything. Plus, the sauna+cold plunge and tanning deck and rooftop turf area are truly the reason I chose this location. If you play basketball, that’s another plus. There’s always pick up games going on, and I also see people individually working out on the extra hoops as well. On my rest days I just go to use the amenities, so I definetly think it’s worth the price. It’s a one stop shop! The studio and yoga room are big and spacious and the Pilates room is great if you want to do private classes. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful- from the front desk, membership managers, custodial staff, trainers, dialog staff, even down the sweet parking attendants. The staff always notices if I take some time off which helps keep me motivated to stay in the gym, but also shows that they actually pay attention to the members, they value your presence, and treat you like friends. I highly recommend.

I've been extremely disappointed with my experience at this Equinox location. The issues are numerous and have made the environment uncomfortable and unacceptable.

First, the $2 parking fee is a joke when other nearby Equinox clubs offer validated parking.

The atmosphere is consistently chaotic. Evenings are overrun with loud, unsupervised teens, and the locker rooms have become selfie and FaceTime lounges. Despite my complaints, staff have not addressed the issue. The environment is also toxic; I've personally overheard older members making racist and inappropriate remarks with zero accountability.

The lack of cleanliness is a serious health concern. The showers are consistently filthy with hair and dirty towels. The women’s bathroom once had a trail of diarrhea on the floor. Most recently, I had an allergic reaction from mosquito bites after a shower and found mosquitoes flying around the locker room. Management's response was a half-hearted apology with no solutions after over a week of me following up.

Finally, the customer service has been abysmal. After all of this, I attempted to cancel my membership and have been met with silence. The lack of professionalism and accountability is staggering.

This location is far from the luxury experience Equinox promises. The staff and instructors deserve a better-managed facility. The classes were fantastic, but I am taking my business elsewhere and would advise others to do the same.

I had a terrible time with the cancellation process at this club upon moving. Paige, who was incredibly nice when signing me up failed to provide the proper instructions for cancellation causing me to pay a whole other month of fees. When I escalated it to her manager Taje- she called me only to be incredibly condescending and rude with no acknowledgement of the mistake on their part. When I wrote to the general manager of the club- there was no response or acknowledgement once again.

The gym itself is nice but the equipment and design of the club is outdated for the price - when I took my husband as a guest - he had a terrible experience as the locker rooms were full of entitled high school kids yelling at each other in the steam room- providing no place for relaxation. You also have to pay for parking after paying the membership fee- which makes no sense

They also close the steam room and sauna before the club closes which makes no sense - If I'm paying for a membership - it should be open all hours and cleaning should taken place once the club closes.

This is one of my favorite locations, and I mainly go there because of the swimming pool. Today, I was there for an hour swimming, but I didn’t see anyone come to dry the area. When I got out of the pool, the floor was extremely slippery, and I ended up falling. it was very dangerous, especially since there were many elderly people in the pool. Everyone was frightened and asked me how I am doing

I believe this location should assign someone to dry the area more frequently to prevent accidents. I have been to the pool many times and never seen any maintenance to dry the area, and this is totally a safety negligence from the management

Additionally, I’ve noticed that the water doesn’t seem clean. I’m not sure how often they change it or what hygiene precautions they take, but that’s another concern I wanted to bring up.

I started feeling pain and see bruises on my body. Tried to create the incident report with the management and there has not been any follow up from their side which is so disappointing

Although the gym has made us sign the liability waiver, that doesn’t mean they should not provide a safe environment or neglect it entirely.

Gym equipment isn't the worst, although heavily outdated. But the amenities are pretty dirty - especially the cold plunge. But management is probably the worst i've dealt with.

Called in to pause my account for three months during a move, assured me everything was fine, only to continue charging me for an additional two months - a total of just over $700. I figured no big deal, ill call back and have them refund it. Talked to Paige and to be honest, just the worst person to manage relationships with. She just talks over you, is extremely rude, and did everything she could just to blame me for it instead of taking any ownership on what they could have done differently. I finally just said forget it and decided to cancel with these guys because of it.

Just a nightmare experience I will never stand for & will always take my business elsewhere.

Been at this club since May of 2023. I signed up with executive membership and love it. It’s the most complete club in all of Los Angeles. Not perfect, but it’s close. They have basketball courts, racquet ball, pickle ball, swimming pools, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, a parking structure, cafe, lounge area, work area, a rooftop exercise spot, and much more.

You should at least come try it out.

I want there on a guest pass, just to see if I like it.
I did not.
Club hours supposed to be till 7pm today. I was in the sauna at 6.30 pm when cleaning lady very rude opened the door and told area is closed.
So they must start cleaning it at 7pm, instead they interrupted relaxation and this is terrible. All this noise and I was not able to use steam room.
Horrible experience and it’s just not I want for myself.
Cleaning must start after the place closed not before.
So I would never will be a client because behind all clients services this place is trash.

I’ve been a member here since January, and I genuinely love this gym. At first the price tag was kind of painful but now, I spend so much time there it’s worth it. From the new coffee shop and always open tables to work from, the sauna and showers, classes, weight areas, it’s easy to spend 2 hours here a day. I also feel like most people, from the members to instructors to front staff, are super friendly. I genuinely enjoy this gym, and am really glad I joined!

I’ve been a member for many years, and in the early days, it was undoubtedly a 5-star facility. The service was top-notch, the place was always spotless and well-organized, and they had the best, most up-to-date equipment. If anything broke down, it was fixed immediately.

In the five years leading up to COVID, it slipped to a 4-star experience. Cost-cutting measures became evident — the quality of the equipment declined, cleanliness standards started to drop, and overall service was not what it used to be.

Since COVID, it feels like the gym has settled into being a 3-star facility. Cleanliness in the locker rooms, spa, and showers has noticeably deteriorated. Broken equipment or amenities now take weeks to repair, and that’s only after multiple complaints. To be fair, they have upgraded several machines, which is a plus. But there’s a palpable shift in employee attitude — it often feels like they just don’t care. I’ve reported issues in the spa area to several staff members, only to be met with indifference or excuses, as if they’re all just passing the buck.

Another major issue with cleanliness is that, to be fair, it’s not entirely the club’s fault. A lot of it comes down to inconsiderate members who leave towels behind in the showers, discard Band-Aids, or leave shaving razors lying around. However, the club bears responsibility for failing to address it. Despite my repeated requests, they’ve refused to confront the issue head-on by making explicit announcements, sending member-wide emails, or posting clear notices around the shower area. A simple, direct message reminding members to clean up after themselves could go a long way, but the club seems unwilling to take that step.

If it weren’t for the hottest steam room in town, I would give them a 2 1/2 star.

I unfortunately fell victim to theft at this location on Friday. My Rolex was stolen out of my gym bag in a secure locker / I have come here for years and this was the first time this has happened. I write this post not to feel bad for myself but to warn other members. For the price I pay monthly (most expensive gym in LA) I guess I was naive to think my possessions were safe in my locker. Equinox of course takes zero responsibility and just said they've escalated it to their asset protection team. I doubt they'll warn their members and I cannot be the first person this happened to. No signs of break in so it was either a professional that can pick the lock or an employee with a master key. I guess I was targeted, such a violation and shame.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this sports club. The parking structure elevator has not been working for over a month, making accessibility a major inconvenience. The locker room is always dirty, and the weight equipment and lighting throughout the entire gym are outdated, especially the basketball court.

I recently moved to the Equinox from Lifetime Fitness since Lifetime Fitness doesn't have a Los Angeles location. Lifetime was a much higher quality gym, and at a lower cost. Equinox, you need to do better.

Message to Equinox Corporate:

Dear Equinox Corporate,

Please prioritize the renovation of your Sepulveda location. The outdated equipment, poor lighting, and consistently dirty locker rooms are unacceptable. I am paying over $380 a month for my membership. This type of experience should be unacceptable.

Sincerely,
A Disappointed Member

As a location owned by Equinox, if they spend the capex on automating the garage parking, I’m sure the parking fee could become $1 to recoup the cost, and then be phased out altogether, or be eliminated from the get go for not having to pay salary, benefits, retirement, etc. to keep it manned. How much is Equinox paying to keep that pay attendant there during operating hours? Most unnecessary overhead. Thought Equinox was a private enterprise, not a government organization…

So as far as Equinox goes, I pay about $330 a month for all locations except Hudson Yards.
This is one of the best locations in socal, as it has a ton of amenities, but there are a few things that could be easily fixed and would make my experience a whole lot better.

Let's start with parking. Why am I being asked to pay for parking? Even at $2/3hours? And really is 3 hours enough to workout, enjoy the spa and amenities? I kind of think it's a little out of pocket considering how much we pay... and I heard there's another location where it's $8?? No way.

Can someone say financial abuse?

Next up, why is there all this space for food, smoothies and coffee as soon as you enter, but it's NEVER open. I mean, I would've assumed y'all wanted to take our money? No?

Especially with having all this area that we can sit and work at afterwards, it would be nice to be able to have the option to not have to leave to go grab food or drinks and then pay another two dollars to park again.

Lastly, I think it's a little bit weird to have a steam room and not have a eucalyptus scent throughout it, why would I want to be in a room, inhaling steam amongst people who just worked out? If I'm not mistaken, Hudson yards has this in their steam rooms, so I know it's possible.

One of the 'DESTINATION' membership Equinox gyms in Los Angeles, along with Century City - so expect to pay higher if you're looking into membership ($265/month vs $325/month). I would give it 5 stars, but not sure why you have to pay for parking if you already pay so much for membership :')

(+) has an 8-lap swimming pool! This is inside. Can get crowded but usually has at least 1-2 lanes free whenever I've gone. Used to be more hectic feeling last year, but they have since hired a team member to make sure people stay within the 30-minute allotment time
(+) HUGE workout space -- whether it's the main studio, yoga studio, or weights area
(+) lots of cardio equipment, so never an issue to have to wait for a machine
(+) they cap the number of people in the fitness classes, so you are NEVER going to feel so cramped for space as the other Equinox locations; think only here and Century City do this well
(+) has an outdoor patio area you can read on/sometimes have playground classes at near the pool; not as nice as Century City

(-) even though it has huge weights area, I've seen it get pretty crowded on the weights
(-) you have to pay for parking to park in the lot (?i think) or choose to park on the meters. You can park further on non-metered street parking but at night this can feel kind of sketchy b/c 2 blocks down, there is a large homeless encampment area
(-) front desk staff is not as friendly as West Hollywood or Century City or Miracle Mile to me, but this is not a big deal
(-) crowd is a bit older at this gym - might be given the pricepoint
(-) when I signed up (this was my old home gym), I felt my membership advisor promised me a deal after I signed up that he never followed through with

Personally, I think if you don't swim, would opt for the SoCal tier membership. Each gym, interestingly or not, has its own vibe to it. This personally ranks as my 2nd favorite Equinox gym given its yoga studio. If you're OK with walking from the non-metered street area, it's also good because there's no time-limit, so if you take back-to-back classes, you don't have to pay extra/anything for parking (vs 2h limit validation at most other gyms).

Compared to the Irvine Sports Club, it's absolutely horrible. I am repeating everyone's top comment, but charging $2-3 every time you park is ridiculous. If you go a lot like I do, that's another $720 annually just for parking.
People are taking selfies or talking on the phone in the locker room and even in the sauna. Teenagers are also vaping in the locker rooms and in the basketball court. lol.
The staff is always extremely rude. I had a few bad experiences with the front desk. For instance, when I had switched over from Irvine, the front desk 'manager' told me that I was trespassing in this club because my membership hadn't switched over. haha.

I'm disappointed by Equinox Sports Club; I was expecting so much better!

1- There is no coffee or smoothie bar or anything. When you enter, it's sad and dead. Not even a coffee machine. They offer free coffee only for Executive members... This is ridiculous!

2- WIFI: I tried to have a meeting between two classes, and I went to the lobby, but the WIFI did not work. It was horrible.

3- PARKING: I have a Destination membership, one of the most expensive ones that gives me access to all clubs, and I have to pay $4 for parking each time I go!! I was shocked and did not expect it. So now I have to pay $112 on top of my $350 Membership? Just to park?

I have to say that the classes are very good, especially the Yoga classes. The staff is also very friendly and nice, but the things above are affecting the overall experience of the CLUB, and unfortunately, it's not a good experience.

I hope to see some changes soon or I will have to go somewhere else.

I am not sure what all the negative comments are about. This is honestly one of the best locations for equinox. Towel service, very clean, large space to workout, lots of machines, great instructors, a swimming pool, a cold plunge, a rooftop patio, a spa, a sauna, and a steam room.

What else on earth would I want from a gym that this one isn’t offering?

Parking though could be free given the high membership cost but I don’t find that a deal breaker for a safe and attached parking lot.

I’ve been an Equinox member for over 15 years. About a year and half ago I upgraded my membership so I could use this club. This “destination” location is the least nice of all the Equinoxes that I’ve been to. I’ve been to ones all over the country including New York City. I don’t quite understand why this club is dirty, equipment is broken, and on top of that the clientele is rude and entitled. I can only think that a lot of the members must be grandfathered from before Equinox bought Sports Club and are paying really low membership fees. The pool is really nice and the front desk people are friendly. The clientele is excessively talkative. A lot of kids from Beverly Hills high school work out here.

Kyle Dorausch assisted me with it. He was very nice and even called me back when i left the voice message about upgrade, then i had a question regarding guest pass and he started to ignore me, did not answer my text messages, did not pick up the phone. So i called Equinox on Sepulveda and since Kyle was busy with the client(that's what i was said) they transferred me to Tage, she was very very rude, screamed on me, tried to get rid of me but not help me and on top of that she hanged up on me not even saying goodbye. Visited Equinox Sports Club during my recent trip to LA. The place is much bigger than the other Equinox locations I’ve visited making the gym rush much more manageable. The addition of a turf rooftop, cold plunge, swimming pool, and hot tub makes it well worth the membership fee compared many other locations.

Large front room that they advertise as a great place to chill and work if you like, but it's extremely echo-y and they blast music so loudly, even noise cancelling headphones don't block it out.

Beyond that, the wifi doesn't actually reach the front area and in the few places that it does, the wifi goes in and out every 10-30 seconds, making it effectively a giant furniture storage area. It gives the club a desolate and run-down sort of feel to it. I'm not sure why they have this area if they seem to be trying to keep people out of it.

*EDIT*
The fact that the response was a template response is telling of the amount of care given to this location. It would have been much more powerful to fix the wifi, and adjust the volume of the music in the front room, but there seems to be an aversion to taking action here.

They have some elaborate scheme going on with the security team and they target the wealthier locker room bc equinox has full access to your locker, so even if it’s locked they can go in a take things. AND WHEN you get stuff stolen they Blame you and take no accountability for their shady practices.

Went in for a trial gym was great also customer was very poor. They refused to stamp parking pass for a miserable $2 ?? After they are charging $300 for membership. It’s the principle, Marcus Barer is a great advisor. was about to enroll but this petty experience says a lot. Will never come back. All the best ✌🏽

Unlike the other Sports Club LA-turned-Equinox club in Irvine, this “Destination” location does not feel premium. The overall cleanliness and condition is subpar in comparison to Century City (the other Destination club in LA). I only use this location for the rooftop (currently, under maintenance), group class (instructor only teaches here), and pool (Century City lost theirs when they demolished the former building and moved into Westfield). I wholeheartedly agree with the similar comments others have posted regarding this club not feeling like a Destination club. There is also a $2 parking fee unless you are an Executive member.

Also, they’ve recently hired a security guard who is basically a cost center - Is he paid to socialize and mingle with the staff inside? Never seen him working in the garage. If he’s there, he’s just on his phone and listening to music. Also, why not just automate the parking and cut the cost of hiring an attendant and all the associated HR costs that comes with that. If you cut these cost centers, parking could probably become $1 or free.

Lots of equipment, but one of the worst Equinox locations! I hadn’t been to this location before and was informed by the person at the desk that he couldn’t validate my parking, but “it was only $2 to park.” Why charge for parking when the membership is already $300+ a month? The fact that he said it was “only $2” was ridiculous because imagine already paying for a membership, but also having to pay “only $2” every single time you want to use that $300+ membership. Didn’t realize this location was so hard up for money…

The people at this location are also rude and never clean up after themselves.

There are much better locations for a “luxury” gym.

Amazing sport club in LA. I’ve been only to this Equinox and I loved it. I’ve tried some other gyms and this one is my favorite. High quality service, clean spaces, interesting classes and a huge variety of choice! The monthly subscription is very expensive though, but if you can afford it, I think it’s worth it!

Joined this gym around a year ago hoping to find a cleaner & less crowded gym due to the insane crowds and dirtiness at local gyms such as LA Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness.

For $300+ a month, I don't think the value is there to justify the price. Lot's of members are disrespectful toward the club and leave towels, work out accessories, and bottles everywhere, and the club is too large to have the cleaning crew keep up at all hours of the day. Members should have more respect to clean up after themselves, lots of them seem entitled. Like most gyms, from 4-7pm during the week it gets crazy packed.

The basketball courts are often taken and hard to get on during the afternoons and weekends. Lot's of guys who think they are in the NBA with big egos. If you want a basic pick up game to have fun or get a good cardio work out, this isn't the place to play. Some of these guys need humbled.

Lately, lots of machines are broken including a majority of the stair masters and the sauna. The food bar in the lobby has been closed since covid had has no path or direction to be opened up soon.

Parking is also very limited, on top of $300 a month, you need to pay $2-3 to park in their garage, or find a meter spot on the side streets. There's some street parking that doesn't require a meter but those get taken quickly and is limited.

With all that said, there are some good benefits. If you go during the morning, or during the day, there's a more respectful crowd and the basketball courts are more open with people just shooting around. There's a lot of available classes throughout the day that you can join. They just added two cold plunges upstairs on the patio by the pool. The gym is also massive which spreads people out so you're not on top of one another.

Overall, I'd say there are more pros than cons, but for $300 a month, I don't think it's worth it.

Review update: August 2023

Overall facilities have become very beaten up and rundown. As an example, the elevator has been broken for well over a month and “they are working on it.” Constant leaking in the ceiling of the locker room. The locker room is meaningfully dirtier than other Equinox locations - ground is always dirty and wet. Revised to two stars given all of the above.

Go to Westwood or Century City locations instead.

Review update: December 2022

They finally fixed the locks on the lockers so I am revising my review back up to 4 stars as this was the biggest issue with this location.

Review update: October 2021

I’m lowering my review from 5 stars to 2 stars because of the locker room: almost every single locker is broken and requires you to get staff to come and manually unlock for you.

Sometimes the staff is nowhere to be found, so you’re stuck waiting around for some indeterminate amount of time in the hope that an employee walks by to help.

When you check on when this is going to be fixed (all they have to do is replace dying batteries), the managers have no answer.

Just unacceptable at this price to have this significant of an inconvenience on one of the main parts of the gym (i.e., the literal locks on the lockers).

Only reason this place gets more than one star is because of the expansive weight room.

It is completely ridiculous that they charge cash only for parking and refuse to validate for non executive members, I pay $300 a month thats $3,600 a year to be nickel and dimed for parking, absolutely inexcusable when every other location offers free parking for 2 hours. The only reason I come here is for the basketball but may just find a better gym situation if they can't fix this idiotic policy.

I want to start this review by saying I do enjoy working out at the Sports Club. I’ve built some great relationships with some of the gym goers and there’s a nice since of community there.

On the flip side, I joined this location in Oct 2022 because of 3 major amenities. The hot food/drink area, the full length basketball court, and the rooftop workout area.

My issue is there has been a price increase yet only 1 of the amenities I care about is fully functional (basketball court). The rooftop has limited use since the weights and other equipment have been removed, and the hot bar doesn’t look like it will be open anytime soon.

All in all the experience could be better. Equinox staff and leadership for this location need to do better at managing members expectations and communicate any delays that might affect the guest experience.

Facilities are in a sad state of disrepair. Many machines are not working, equipment is dirty, staff will only help clients if they are "personal trainer" potential. More effort seems to be going to signing up new members than to keeping a standard of cleanliness and service. There are too many managers who don't interact with the clients and make the gym experience better for those of us who want to get a good workout for our fees. Honestly, if there were a better alternative in west LA, I wouldn't stay at Equinox.

As one of the most expensive gym options, this location and Equinox more broadly leave much to be desired;

- Extremely busy. As COVID restrictions have started to lift in the region, the after work crowds have grown substantially. Because of this, many of the other amenities that are sold to new joiners are almost unusable. Expect to wait at every machine/bench/rack in the weight room. You will have to adjust your workout in order to leave within 1.5 hours. The basketball court is consistently occupied by pickup games that cover the entire gym; no room for shoot around, if you want to play it will take a couple games. Sauna is always full.

- Poor class programming. Limited classes that often occur during the middle of the work day. No options for evening classes. In my experience, the classes themselves are disorganized and non-motivating. As an example, during one class I attended, the instructor showed up late, recognized me from a previous session, and asked me to setup the equipment on their behalf, while facilitating the warmup for other class members. With the emphasis on the new Equinox+ platform, focus on programming, and the restrictions involved in booking classes, the product needs to be better. The programming is especially limited for HIIT and weight training focused classes.

- Pay for parking. Every time you drive to the gym, you will need to pay for street parking ($/hour up to 2 hours) or valet ($3 flat up to 3 hours). There is no parking reimbursement. Other (significantly cheaper) gyms in the West LA area offer parking reimbursement.

- There are no food or beverage options in the gym. However, there is a very large, completely desolate, kitchen space in the entryway of the gym. Equinox stopped paying their outside vendor at the beginning of COVID and have made no effort to replace that service or find an alternative for gym goers.

- The gym contract is extremely restrictive. If you are moving within the 1st year of your contract, you cannot terminate the contract unless your new location is outside 25 miles from the nearest Equinox location (for reference, this range covers the entire greater LA metropolitan area and, probably, most metro areas in the USA). Furthermore, the price you agreed upon in the contract is not fixed. If you move to a higher price region, not only must you transfer your membership but your dues will also increase accordingly. If you wish to cancel for medical reasons, you must have a doctor’s note proving you’re unfit for the gym for at least 6 months. Be aware, the salesmen are instructed to underplay the restrictions here when you are signing up.

Can’t think of anything else I’d need any many more machines than most other gyms. Two weeks here was enough to make me leave Equinox after 4 years as a member.

I decided this month to upgrade my membership back to the Destination Pass I originally had because I wanted to have access to a club close to my new office for the next few months. When I toured Sports Club LA, however, the membership manager was wholly disinterested in showing or telling me about the club. She did such a bad job show me around and tell me about the club that one of the trainers at the club had to give me another tour during my first day because I didn’t know where anything was or even most of what was in the building.

This is also apparently the only club that does not validate, but the membership managers don’t share that information on the tour. I explicitly asked the woman who conducted my tour about the length of the validation period, and she assured me that there wasn’t a time limit to worry about with Equinox’s validation, and that I just needed to get a stamp on the way out. That worked fine for most of my two weeks there but on the last two days, I was told that I was not allowed to get a validation. When I challenged the front desk attendant about the policy and about the fact that the membership manager told me I was going to be validated, the first woman was rude and snapped that the membership associate was wrong: the second attendant was sardonic, but he confirmed that “the membership managers don’t really tell about that because it doesn’t sound good to new members.”

So not only does this mean I am essentially stuck with an additional $40-$60 a month on my membership fee, but an employee at the location also literally confirmed that the equivalent of the Equinox sales team there is deliberately disassembling when signing new members. That, in and of itself, is grounds for a complaint for consumer rights violation.

The locker room staff has also been incredibly rude.

The gym is beautiful and has nice amenities, but the fact that I was quite literally lied to by a sales team associate, and that the lie is a common tactic to sign new members at this location, makes me wildly uncomfortable and distrustful that the brand cares about its members.

UPDATE: I have cancelled my membership.

For what this gym purports to be, it is rough around the edges. Equinox markets itself as a top shelf gym/club experience, and their prices reflect that. This particular facility has a lot of great amenities and looks amazing at a glance. However, a closer look reveals that maintenence is always behind; you will often find something broken or in need of cleaning.

The massage spa is entirely overpriced. Even though they accept outside appointments, no discounts are given to members, including executive members (there is a one time introductory discount for members though I am not sure this is offered all the time).

Staff service is mediocre. This place should be on the level of a 5 star hotel, but the service level feels more like any 24 hour fitness gym.

First of all, before I say anything else, I want to be clear that going to an upscale gym like Equinox makes a lot of sense if you make use of the membership and you can afford it. The Sepulveda club is quite a bit different from the Santa Monica club, and I will talk about both clubs.

The Sepulveda club has lots of amenities - plenty of high-quality classes, every possible kind of exercise equipment, sauna, jacuzzi - even a health-oriented restaurant with linen tablecloths and candles on the tables. A big advantage of the Sepulveda club is that you can stay at the club all day without spending very much on parking - and you can even find free parking on the street if you don't mind walking. I think the biggest downside of the Sepulveda club is that they keep having "events" in the club for people who aren't members. Things like sales meetings, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, charity events, and seminars. I would think that they make enough money from memberships that they don't need to keep renting out the club to outsiders. I wish that they could at least publish information about these "events" so that I would know to stay away from the club when this stuff is happening.

In contrast, the Santa Monica club doesn't have as many amenities. You can buy food there, but they don't have normal things like coffee, Coke, or Gatorade - just a bunch of ultra healthy things that I have never heard of. One of the nicest things about the Santa Monica club is its vibe - it feels friendly, comfortable, and creative. I think the biggest downside of the Santa Monica club is the cost of parking. The first two hours are free, but if you want to stay longer, the parking can be very expensive - unless you don't mind walking to one of the big Santa Monica parking structures.

I have never been around so many vile, distasteful ,superficial, and racist people in my life don't get me wrong the gym is awesome but the people in the gym spoil the experience. Not racist but my biggest issue was the middle easterners in here they have absolutely no respect for anyone let alone themselves they are extremely territorial and aggressive and downright disrespectful they have no sense of decorum at all constantly stare at you in the locker room with looks of distaste. I was an executive member private locker area was nice but due to their bizarre behavior and lack of good hygiene some of them are living proof money doesn't buy you good sense, class, or character. I don't get why people are stealing the Kiehls product, q tips, toothpicks towels and hair dryers in the executive locker room and we had fruit non executive members and I have witnessed some trainers coming in and take fruit from the executive locker room it baffles me that people with means are stealing insignificant things that's when you know you have issues as a human being. $225 per month for the basic membership, a nice fitness club, mostly nice people and clean, tons of middle easterner dudes acting like they own the place in the evenings , had a billing issue, suggested I would cancel, they seemed to care less, very arrogant upper management, Jennifer Recinos. Very few younger women, perhaps due to price. $2700 per year. Even dance clubs know to charge the men more and the women less. Cafe tries to give you the smallest dinner portions they can get away with and they just raised their prices. Don't valet your car, they will damage it in the garage on that incline. 3rd party valet company, All they do all day is talk dirt about the members, in spanish. 2 of 5 stars overall.

This place used to be called sports Club LA, it got bought out by Equinox recently.
Let me tell you what a horrific place this club has turned into so that you do NOT waste your money.
First of all I am talking about sports club in LA on Sepulveda in west LA not in century city. We are NOT allowed to try the century city one unless we up grade to a $235 a month fee.
second of all when sports club got bought over by equinox, they closed down the locker rooms with only few showers, OK we put up with it, then they closed a private small work out room where you could hide and not have to mix with the plastic surgery LA freaks and the horny old men! Now that room will be converted into an office I was told, OK so less place to work out.
Then the showers are filthy, hair and soap scum every where, disgusting! The floors are dark and nasty and burn your feet unless you have shoes on.
The pool is nasty, its yellow with particles floating around every where, I am NOT sure what is there but its dirty and has NOT been cleaned for ever!

The membership fees has been increased from $170 to $190, not sure what Equinox members pay but the la sports club members got an increase on their fees while the services got cut in half by closing the showers, and construction all over the club
OK Listen Equinox business office: HOW ARE YOU GOING TO RAISE FEES, IF YOU ARE NOW DELIVERING 50% OF YOUR SERVICE AND SPORTS CLUB LA AKA EQUINOX WEST LA IS NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION?????

The staff is VERY rude now, the old timers have stopped coming, the mature, older and business minded people, Millionaires, actors and celebs are all GONE replaced by 20 YEAR OLD TEENY BUMPERS EVERY WHERE!

The feel of this place is like a 24 hours fitness which is riding the coat tail of the old sports club LA!

Gone are the days of the clean gym with lots of equipment, now your in a place that is like 24 hour fitness yet charges $190 a month....!!

WHY ARE YOU CHARGING SO MUCH FOR A FILTHY, DIRTY AND UNDER CONSTRUCTION GYM???

Stay away from this place and save your money, this place SUCKS and its dirty.
There should only be a call to OSHA and the Health Dept cause soon some one will catch something!!!1

The equipment are not being cleaned, its dripping with people's sweat, yes perfect gym don't you think?
worth that $190 or the executive BS rate!
I spoke with the manager/assistant manger and they said so go else where
and that's what I am going to do!
SAVE YOUR MONEY, THIS DIRTY LOW CLASS 24 HOUR FITNESS LOOK ALIKE IS NOT WORTH $190 A MONTH
Go else where and save your money!
