easily the best investment I’ve made for myself! from the variety of classes to the amenities to the gym equipment, no other gyms in the city even comes close to their standard.

Prices keep going up while service and amenities stay the same or worse. Cleanliness is an issue, quality of products is questionable. Steam room is always breaking. manager is unresponsive or careless. Great instructors and staff overall.

Trash facility. There’s almost no amenities. Staff is unfriendly. And they stole money from me and refused to give it back. DO NOT GO HERE! There are much better options in the area. I literally never write reviews, but I had to write one because this place was so bad and I feel like I need to warn people.

I really enjoy this place it’s been a wonderful experience left once and I came back to join the gym again because I realized the huge difference from other gyms.Jeff is very welcoming and I will say I feel like home. Everyone is working out together and making it worth it . I sweat a lot in here which is great machines are always accurate and also place smells great very clean. Thank you staff for trying hard to make this happen for us 💜 I know I’m always in my own world but I have to stop and say thank you all 🫂 let’s spread the love!

Newest Equinox in the city. Three levels with locker rooms on the first floor, main cardio and weightlifting areas on the first floor, and studios on the second floor. There are comfortable lounge areas and working spaces along the main corridor. It occupies a large space at the base of a residential tower which is separate. The only con is the location on the corner of Mission and Van Ness, although it is convenient to BART and Muni.

The front desk staff was extremely unprofessional. My friend is a member of the gym and received a text inviting her to bring a guest for happy hour, so she invited me. When I arrived, the front desk told me that guests weren’t allowed and tried to make me leave. My friend explained that she’s a member and had received a message encouraging her to bring a guest.
They then asked for my ID, which I provided, but immediately told me to go to the bar and ask the bartender instead. I was confused—how could the person pouring drinks be responsible for checking IDs or signing people in, especially without a computer or tablet?
When I approached the bartender, she looked uncomfortable and clearly tried to indicate that it wasn’t her responsibility either. The whole situation was awkward and felt very unprofessional.

The hours of this gym do not match the price of membership.
In what would otherwise be a solid gym, EQX looses 2 stars because every location in the city is closed by 6pm on weekends. I’m convinced that management knows their hours are too restrictive, as there are frequently tens of people still working out when the gym closes.
LiveFit, Fitness SF, 24 Hour Fitness, the YMCA, Bay Club, and Crunch all have better hours for at least one location in the city, some for a third of the cost.
The men’s steam room is also consistently packed to the brim and there is no sauna. Again, issues that shouldn’t exist for a gym of this tier.

One of the best gyms I’ve been to and I’ve been to MANY. Wish we had something like this in my hometown. The gym area had everything you could ask for as a hybrid athlete. Equipment doesn’t miss. Steam room was amazing. Bathrooms were very detailed and had everything you needed.

I had such a horrible and uncomfortable experience with the front desk receptionist. He must not have been trained on creating a good customer experience. I have been to Equinox’s all over the country and couldn’t believe the treatment that I had. So unfortunate because I went to the Union St location the day before and had such a lovely encounter with their manager. I would never go to this location again.

They are very quick to send spam emails for referrals every two weeks yet when a referral signs up, they will make up rules that aren’t disclosed anywhere to not give the bonus. They will do anything to keep signing up people for their already crowded and small gym, but upholding their end of the agreement seems like a feat not worth respecting. Deceitful and incompetent customer service is what they do best.

Ok gym. Too crowded but good classes.
Water pressure too low, tho I didn’t experience the no hot water issue others mentioned.
I was told I’ll be able to freeze my account 60 days each year before I joined, but it’s actually just once per year for either 1 or 2 months at a time. Well that doesn’t work out too well for its clientele who probably travel often, does it?
Hate chains like these trying to trick their members. Yet another reminder this is just a big corp trying to extract as much $ as possible.
I did have a great 1:1 personal training experience tho. It was the first trainer I liked ever in the US. She listened to my concerns, paid full attention to my forms the entire time, and gave me the exact feedback I had been looking for. Unlike my previous trainers, she never looked at her phone once or tell me my forms were just “fine” when I complain about back pain.
My pilates lesson was just average, so the quality of personal sessions vary a lot by the trainers/instructors.

Location is great and good instructors. however there’s very few bench and squat rack. Working out most of the time means waiting for machines. One additional star for AC.
Btw what the heck happened to the operation hour. Continue to raise price but don’t open late on the weekends? It put equinox brand to shame when compared to New York locations

Great equipment and amenities, but vibe is off. Wore crocs to lift (naturally) and was immediately scolded by the manager there. Also, they keep the entire place (gym + locker room included) 80+ degrees. I hate sweating after showering. No chance I’d pay 300+ a month if my employer wasn’t paying. That said, the place is quite luxurious.

Despite being new, this Equinox location does not meet the standards I’ve come to expect in New York. It is less well equipped than most New York locations and most FitnessSF locations. For example, there is only one incline bench press, one leg press, and one of those large cable machines used for lat pull downs and cable rows. In addition, it closes at 6 pm on weekends and is quite crowded the whole day. Mind blowing to be paying this amount for a gym that closes at 6 pm on weekends.

I usually go to the ones in San Mateo, and Palo Alto, and have amazing experiences there. I just went to this one for boxing class today, and I cannot find anywhere nearby to park. I literally circled around for 15minutes.
I called the front desk, and asked about parking lot, they said it was in the building, but gave me an address that was four blocks away. I went there, and it was a totally wrong address!!! I had lost my patience by then, and drove home.
Honestly the location and the gym look really nice, but the parking experience killed everything. Never going there again.

When I joined Equinox over the summer, I exchanged emails with the general manager inquiring about gender neutral locker rooms for storage and/or showering, stating I am non-binary. The GM Christopher replied that “locker rooms are still labeled women’s and men’s. With that said, whichever gender you identify with, you can use that gendered locker room”. This felt like a slap in the face. A gym that charges $200+ a month should have exterior lockers for guests who don’t feel comfortable using the men/women gendered locker rooms. On top of that, I went to the gym the following week and they were handing out pride EQUINOX bracelets, that included all colors from the trans flag. Having employees tell me happy pride and give me their performative bracelets, meanwhile their general manager couldn’t even respect my gender identity and hygiene/safety concern while using their gym? Ridiculous. I ended my membership immediately.

Small space. Some staff are passive aggressive and should be better trained on how to interact with people.
For a new location, most of the cable equipment is kept in surprisingly poor condition relative to other clubs in the city. If it weren’t so close to me I’d never come here.

The quality continues to go down. Specifically when it comes to the amenities. The women locker room has been under construction with tapes all over. They’ve changed the deodorant to an overall body spray and have limited the locations of all lotions, deodorants, and even the cotton swabs. There’s also no steamer available (unlike other locations)

Joined about 6-8 months ago. Was great then, now way overpopulated. If you come after 3/4pm you will wait for equipment. Floor is totally full of people. They keeping touring new prospective members thru, so it seems membership will continue to grow. It’s a nice space, but if you can only work out during pre/post 9am-5pm, you’ll be competing with others for spots on machines/benches

Newer, but I find this location to be a bit
mediocre compared to other SF location; and is definitely subpar to Sports Club.
Really small gym floor is overcrowded at peak times. Facilities maintenance is “iffy” in this location (I.e same water fountain broken for a month). Also annoying, Earthbar is almost never open and closes for long periods without warning.
One positive, is that the cardio machines are newer and the most up-to-date of any location.

Brand new, but for the high membership fee I would expect more. Main issues:
- longer opening hours especially since it’s always super crowded between 6-8pm. Told manager team multiple times but profit is probably more important
- amenities close 1/2 before closing hours
- pretty small lifting area
- fuzzy towels and shower hot/cold gamble
+ classes are pretty decent

This is a gorgeous new Equinox location. The main floor is open and spacious with plenty of free weights, machines, and cardio. The stretching area is also roomy and well situated on the side so you don’t feel like you’re stretching in front of everyone. Locker rooms are also clean and big. Highly recommend.

1) Not nearly enough weighted machines. This gym has limited amenities and missing some. 2) Didn't feel comfortable there. Homeless all around building. Doorman just stays inside and hides. Does nothing about the homeless around the entrance of the building. Tents right across the street.
3) No pool
4) No spa
5) No suana
6) Cold showers most of the time unless you sit there for a minute for them to warm up, wasting tons of water.
7) During COVID times they aren't making sure people wipe down equipment during busy times. People just walk away and they only clean a few times a day.
8) Steam room overcrowded and small, steam room has issues working at times without playing with wall switch. Not safe

I quit this Equinox location due several inconveniences.
Namely:
1- it gets way too packed form 7 to 8 am. To the point where there's literally no space to work out.
2- the showers running water goes from hot to cold every minute (even if it's set on hot the whole time), making taking a shower an unpleasant experience. This happened to me every time I showered.
3- the space overall is actually very small.
4- although I managed to leave before my first year contract, they make it almost ridiculously hard to do so.
5- the music on the workout room is really loud, I needed to pump up a lot the volume on headphones causing me headaches.
