Training with Josh was one of the main components that has completely changed my life. I met him at one of the lowest points ive had, frustrated, restless, and stuck in my head. I was not disciplined at all, my life had no structure and I was just coasting. I met him through a friend before he had a gym; and from the first conversation I knew this guy was the real deal.
I have been to three other gyms, one extremely famous boxing and two other infamous Muay Thai gyms in the LA area. They were straight up 1/10th as good. I wish I was exaggerating; you could feel how much this guy actually gives a shit about the people he trains. I moved up to Ventura recently and was looking to train with someone, after being super not disciplined for years. I’ve been training with him for 7 months now 2-3x a week and it’s night and day difference in my physic, my psychology, socially, everything. There’s more to that but he will help with tips and tricks outside of the gym and off the mats. You’ll progress much faster with him than any other gym, I promise.
I feel stronger, sharper, and more in control than ever. He doesn’t just teach you kicks and punches; he teaches discipline, focus, and how to push past limits you didn’t think you had.
Im so beyond happy he has a gym space now. I was training with him back when he had a gym in a small garage with a bunch of guys sparring. Do not go anywhere else trust me. This guy is hands down best in So Cal

While I had my apprehensions towards gym culture ( and rightfully so ) I had talked to Josh a few times to see what his approach was and see what he would recommend for someone who was very mentally stuck. I got a run down of his origins and his transformation and how now he can run over 100 miles in the desert without stopping. (And has done it multiple times now btw) I decided to wait it off for a bit, but after a tragic event from family member affecting me the way it did, I decided really "why the hell not". I knew it would be tough and it was TOUGH. I had no idea how bad my body had degraded over the years. So much so I actually was purposefully taking it easy and communicating directly to Josh to see where I could adapt if something was to much for me. He accommodated to my circumstances and we pushed through together. While my situation was unique he had the experience to adapt and challenge me when he knew I needed it and when I needed to ease up. My body changed , but for me, my mind changed more and now I am doing better then I have in well over a decade of physical and mental pain. Sure some days I was well over the whole "just do it" mantra, but I continued on anyways and the results are night and day. If you need a restart in life in general, FC51 is a great first building block towards a more grounded and resilient you.

I met Josh through social media and a local run club (shout-out Rolling Cerros) about two years ago.
At the time, I had zero previous experience in martial arts and only nominal practice in boxing fundamentals. Josh was great at explaining each part of each training block, while managing to push me forward in a way that was encouraging rather than coddling.
Aside from becoming involved in Muay Thai, Josh also encouraged me to take running more seriously to increase my baseline cardio. This resulted in me pacing him for 15 miles of a 100 mile race he did, completing my first ever marathon at the Los Angeles Marathon (3:19 finish time) and continuing onward to complete other marathons, ultra marathons and races.
More could be said but for the sake of time and space I will leave it with:
I would highly recommend trying out training with Josh for all men, women, boys and girls alike!
Whether your goal is fitness, self defense or to train at a competition level... Josh is an invaluable resource that you would normally have to travel far out of town to find.

Josh was the reason I started training Muay Thai consistently. I fought twice this year and am already in fantastic shape. He changed my life for the better and I will forever be grateful. If you’re in the Oxnard area and need a place to train, he is the best when it comes to development, overall fitness, and Muay Thai itself. Josh is also a fantastic online coach (this is how he helped change me and my mindset).

What can I say about FC51 Striking and Fitness? Where one might see just another martial arts gym, our team has come to know it as a proving ground—a crucible that chisels the mind, body, and soul, forging the warrior heart within us and igniting our dormant potential with the fires of great change.
Whereas our team were once untested, untried, and uncertain about our future, together we not only endured and survived, but through the fire cultivated a culture of camaraderie, fellowship, brotherhood, faith, and courage ready to take our hard losses and return to the forge the next day; learning that failure was just a steppingstone towards success and that despite adversity we could still thrive.
The wisdom in Coach Slavin's direct and uncompromising leadership, testing, and candor with his students will often challenge us as much as it will speak life into our personal development and reward consistent hard work. His steadfast and unyielding high standards may call us out, but for the purposes of calling us to level up. Committed, driven, and meticulous, Coach Slavin not only believes in and draws out the potential of his students, but is consistently the first to recognize and laud all of our achievements, progress, and victories from the smallest changes to our biggest breakthroughs.
Whether inside the ring, on the mats, and outside of the gym one thing is for sure: Coach Slavin is in your corner, and so are we.
A milestone has been reached and prayers for FC51 have to come to fruition. If you are in search for a place to hone, strengthen, and sharpen your mind, body, and soul, look no further than here. The sparks of great change await you. Will you answer the call?
