1 star based on customer service of alleged [General Manager of Fitness 19 Orange, Leroy Gonzales].

- I called on 8/13/25 to ask for an email address to send a cancellation notice and was told by him, "You can't cancel in writing, you need to come in and do it to sign documents." I asked to confirm that there is absolutely no way to cancel without going in because I now live 2 1/2 hours away. He confirms. I question the membership agreement that states I can cancel in writing by postage or email, and why he's telling me I cannot do so if it's in writing. His attitude changed VERY QUICKLY and said, "Well if you already know then just email...it's in your agreement. Look at your agreement and do what it says." I asked to confirm that the email address in my agreement is correct as it's been many years since I signed up. He consistently avoided telling me the email address and kept referring me to "just look at the agreement and it's there..." instead of confirming yes or no that it is still a valid email address for this particular gym. Finally after a couple minutes of back and forth he confirms the email address as fast as he can and hangs up immediately after, not allowing me to say another word or ask any other questions.

- I called today 9/17/25 to ask why there are is another charge to my account after receiving the cancellation confirmation email a month prior. Yes it was the same person, General Manager Leroy Gonzales as he stated, "Yes I'm the one who actually processed it" (and the email provides the said name and title). He explains, "Cancellations do not take affect until 30 days after receiving the request, so the charge is valid." I didn't remember this detail (although it may be correct), and said oh okay I'll have to read the agreement again to confirm this as I didn't remember it. He smacks his lips over the phone, condescendingly laughs and hangs up.

-The customer service received from this general manager is absolutely unacceptable. I kept my membership active and gave them free money for years without attending this gym during my 3 years masters program. Yet, he throws a tantrum over a cancellation, and then gets riled up even more after being called out on something he lied about (cannot cancel in writing). In my opinion, the general manager of this Fitness 19 (Orange, CA) facility has very poor emotional control, has poor communications skills as he talks over you to get his point across without listening, cutting me off mid-sentence, and is in no position to lead a team of employees. I hope this email reaches higher ups, and I'll be seeking out contact information to certainly let the higher ups know about the treatment I received by this person. If the person I spoke with over the phone twice (and received an email from) is not Leroy Gonzales, I apologize, but this person is claiming to be Leroy and is sending emails from Leroy's account.

I signed up for Fitness 19 in Orange through OnePass and brought my registration sheet to Roy, the manager, who seemed cool at first. I asked if I needed a key card to sign in, and he said, “No man, you're cool.” I assumed that meant in general, but he meant just that day. So after a few days of not signing in, he confronted me, accusing me of not knowing how. I reminded him of our earlier conversation, but he got defensive.

He had me download the app to scan a barcode, which I did, then reluctantly gave me a physical key card when I asked. Weeks later, I forgot the card and used the app—only to find the barcode didn’t work. Roy got an attitude again, blamed me, then rushed through giving me my membership number, which I misheard. He yelled the corrections at me like I was an idiot.

The first time I let it go. But this pattern of disrespect is enough—I'm switching to another gym through OnePass.

This gym scammed me out of almost $1500. I signed up for personal training with Roy and after he failed to show up on time a few times and no showed I wanted to cancel. They made it so difficult to do so and made sure I was not about to use it and when I tried to transfer it to my husband they would not allow it after they said initially said we could share the sessions as a family. I was also told the sessions do not expire and I have this in a text but now I can’t even use them and it sis expired. Very unprofessional and this is so close to my home and would love to use the session. To make matters worse I was contacted by Roy and told to come and pay more and work out with him at his house. No thanks. What a scam.

Positives:
- it's a gym with weights.
- it's never THAT busy so you can always hit something

Negatives:
- the water is not clean in the fountain and has been that way since I first signed up. I know that maintenance isn't exactly a gym's strong suit but hearing a trainer outright tell people that it's dirty and just accepting that that's the way it is, is kind of a sign of how things seem to work around here.
- I tried working with a trainer and had to find out that even the sessions they weren't scheduling me for were being billed. After 2 months and a total of 1 session, I had accumulated a bill of over $500. Wonderful!
- Regardless of the price, the trainer was difficult to schedule with, unprepared / lacked any sort of training plan, and never tracked anything as a progress metric. As a licensed nutritionist, I expected more health advice than "just stick to whole foods," but I digress.

I moved out of CA in November 2023. I went in person before I left, and an associate told me I was good to go, and that my membership would expire and would not be renewed after the month was up and that I did not need to do anything else to cancel it. Came to find out later they had kept charging me sporadically every few months since then, and since I disputed with my bank, they have been harass calling me non stop to try to claim that I have a membership to renew/to attend to or past dues even though their associate had assured me my membership was cancelled. Worst service and experience EVER.

I enjoyed going to this gym until one of the employees threatened to cut my daughter's hair off in the child care center. He said he would only cut a little so her parents "wouldn't notice". My husband went down to the location to complain and we received no update on the matter. As far as I know no disciplinary action was taken against this employee. I'm not sure if this guy was trying to be funny or make a joke, but it was not taken very lightly as parents of young children. Ever since I have hardly gone because I don't feel comfortable leaving my children there and it's hard as a mom too find the time to go without kids in tow. That's why I chose this gym in the first place. So many other gyms still had their child care centers closed during covid and never reopened them. Fast forward to April 2023 and I have my third baby. I decide to send an email in August to cancel because I'm for sure not leaving my baby in their care. They have continued to charge me since then and now say I owe $402. It's ridiculous. Do not give this gym your money. And especially do not trust them to take your concerns seriously when it comes to child care. 👎

Gym is clean and has pretty much everything you’d need but whoever is supposed to open it on weekends has a hard time getting in on time. It is supposed to be open at 7am on Saturday and Sunday and now for the second time in about a month I’ve had to cancel my gym plans because no one showed up to open by 7:30am. I only have a certain amount of time to workout throughout the week and it’s pretty frustrating to be paying for a gym I can’t rely on.

I’ve been searching for a new gym since my old one is too crowded no matter what time you go….so I went online and signed up for the 5 day free pass so that I could check out this gym at the different times I go so that I could make sure it was a good fit for my needs. When I got to the gym I was informed by staff( ) that because my id said Santa Ana, which is the neighboring city (the gym is 6 mins from my front door) that I would have to pay $15 to try out the gym. Nowhere on the sign up for the tour did it state that I couldn’t use my 5 day pass if I didn’t live in orange. Fix this. Because omit wasted my time. And the only reason I’m posting this is in hopes that no one else wastes their time. But the gym did look clean, and looked like it had some good equipment for the price. Unfortunately I won’t be getting a membership though. I’d rather pay double and go to 24 hour fitness, where they respect your time and don’t lie on their advertisements….trust and integrity are key in running a successful buisness. I’m not talking down on the gym, because like I stated, it looked clean and had all the appropriate machines and weights from what I could see from the front desk. Just on the false advertising.

I was coming here for some time in the mornings however I stopped. Due to my scheduling restrictions I could only come at opening. However, I stopped because the girl at the front desk, Adriana or Ariana was very rude and unwelcoming. She would never greet anyone and seemed to be bothered if she was asked for assistance. I found out through another member, that the opener is now a different gentleman. He is very welcoming, and seems to do a better job at cleaning the women's restroom as well. Overall, I really am glad the staff has been so welcoming and nice. Especially the manager Gus, always greets you with a smile and their amazing trainer Kimberly. They are a big reason I come back every morning.

I have been a member at this gym for years and they advertise that they open at 5:00 AM.
However, far too often there is no one there to open the gym at 5:00 A.M. Today, once again, it was not opened until 5:35 AM. Many of us members have brought this continual issue to the management several times but it remains an issue.
I go to the gym that early so that I can get to work on time, and would appreciate it if they would honor my time. Who wants to get up that early, just to sit in the parking lot waiting for someone to unlock the doors???

I really do hope this issue gets resolved because other than that I enjoy working out there.

I love Fitness19 in Orange. The gym is clean, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and good equipment. Kimberly is my trainer. She is amazing at what she does. Kim is full of knowledge, encouragement, and positivity. I recommend her to everyone I know. Having a trainer is life changing and I recommend signing up for 8 seasons minimum. Do not trust Fitness 19. They have stolen money from me 3 times, so far. I've discussed the problem with employees at the gym 3 times and each time they promised me that the problem had been taken care of. Clean, affordable and great equipment! This club should:

1. Post signs "No resting on the equipment
2. Stop employees from playing their personal music

Many members sit on the machines and play with their phones. I constantly have to ask if I can use the machine while they are resting. They give me this dumb look and then they pull out their headphones and say "what?" Like it is not obvious what I am standing there for. Some are nice about it and some get really mean and nasty.

The club plays nasty rap after 5pm. Employees are allowed to play their personal Spotify playlists off their phones.

I like this gym and their range of equipment, but I’m not comfortable with them not requiring masks for members (at least until June 15 when CA reopens). While I’ve continued paying dues throughout the pandemic with the goal of supporting them and eventually returning, with my credit card expiring they’re now requiring me to come in to update it (or give my bank account information, which I’d prefer not to do). I’m uncomfortable going in there at all currently so asked to cancel my membership—and they said I have to come in for that too. If I let my card expire, they said they’ll charge me late fees. I’ve been a member for several years and am extremely unhappy with the way they’re handling this situation.

I started working out here at the grand opening. The gym was nice then but they really did some amazing upgrades since then. The perks are better than ever for the price.

The staff is amazing and respectful. Easy to work within financials and helpful in every way.

The gym etiquette so far is stellar even when it is busy.

I'm glad to be back and while I don't want another body in the gym. This place is worth every dime and I highly recommend it

Customer service is terrible. Was charged for months during the height of the pandemic when indoor facilities were supposed to be closed. Was no communication from phone or email about opening and closure and kept charging members. Complained about this to GM and asked for a refund and did not get one. I cancelled my membership and was double charged my last month. These people here are shady and money hungry.

This place is a complete rip off. What gym or management team sends someone to collections during a pandemic. I was in contact with the “owner” via email to cancel my membership, but they said I can only do so in person. This was like March or April, so no I wouldn’t go into the gym during COVID to cancel. They haven’t even been open for pretty much the last nine months. Why would anyone in their right mind want to go to this gym during a pandemic when it’s never cleaned and unsanitary. This place is a health concern for everyone that attends and works there. I refuse to give the company even a penny. Don’t waste your time, money, credit history or health at this place.

I've never had an issue with this gym. Equipment tends to be well kept but usually one has to wipe down benches because they tend to be sweaty. Front desk most of the time has friendly employees but other times you'll find frowns and serious faces. Beyond all the imperfections, I used to consider this my gym, but, unfortunately, the way they use their policies to squeeze out extra cash from cancelled membership is a testament on how much they care about their long time gym goers. Even during COVID-19, that caused me to lose my only source of income, they aren't willing to bend their policies to avoid cashing out pity cash. I'm not paying rent to Fitness 19, so I don't understand why there's a 30 day notice to cancel my subscription? In the end I'm glad I'm done with this business. I pray the money you took helps prevent the business from going bankrupt.

Scott, Dillon, and Dave and the entire staff are great. They don't have a pool, jacuzzi, sauna and a few amenities but you save a lot of 💰. The best thing is the daycare so you can workout and have your kids be in good hands with Hillary and Iris.

I’ve been going to this gym for about six months, and it’s the third Fitness 19 I’ve joined. For the price, it’s great. It’s clean and the cardio machines work properly. There is one significant problem, however, that makes it difficult for me to train:
Not a lot of floor space to do free weights. I do a lot of exercises that don’t require benches or any other equipment besides barbells/dumbbells (deadlifts, goblet squats, planks, etc). If I want to do these exercises *without blocking other equipment*, it’s really hard to find a few square feet of free floor space besides the corner by the kids room. ESPECIALLY when it’s busy. Sometimes when it’s busy I can’t weight train at all and have to stick to the cardio machines. if there were fewer machines and more floor space it would be a lot easier to do free weights, which is what most young women like me are interested in anyway as opposed to machines. I sometimes think it would be worth it to join a different gym, even if it were more expensive, if I could actually find space to do the strength training program I’m currently committed to working through. I would just need a radius of a couple feet around me most of the time, but that’s almost impossible to get when it’s busy.
But if you primarily want cardio machines or other machines, it’s worth it and very reasonably priced.
the women’s bathroom is frequently out of soap. I wish they had more boxes and stretching mats, it’s hard to get your hands on them sometimes. I wish they would not play cable news channels on the televisions, but these are minor complaints.

Beware! They make it next to impossible to cancel. They will continue to charge your card long after you cancel and fight you tooth and nail to keep charging your card. They will also manage to somehow get your new card number when you get a new card, even though you didn't give it to them. They will go out of their way to get your new number even though you made it perfectly clear you're not interested in the service anymore and will not use it. We had to get the bank to block Fitness 19 from charging our account after we submitted documentation proving we took all of the correct steps to cancel. They will also throw family members onto your card and will refuse to cancel without the physical presence of said family, even though it's YOUR debit card, not your family member's. We moved out of state and had no way to fix it in person, but they still insisted on it. Their policies are convoluted and just plain stupid to make it impossible to cancel.

Edit: We did cancel in person. A family member was on the account and instead of canceling everything, which is what we wanted, he was kept on the account. We weren't aware of this until after we moved and saw continuing charges months and months after we cancelled. He wasn't paying for the service, we were and we weren't allowed to recancel the service without his presence, which was ridiculous because it wasn't his bank card to begin with. What became frustrating was that when this happened, we went back and forth through multiple phone calls over the course of weeks to fix it. We tried to work it out with the company. Nothing happened and we had to have our bank stop all payments. The bank refunded us our money. Fitness 19 tried to claim we owed them more money after the bank put a stop to their charges. This was even after all of the contact we had with Fitness 19 to cancel, even getting mail notifying us of what we "owed" them to our new out of state address! We were given the run around and it was clear this was a purposeful, forceful business practice to keep members, whether they want to be members or not.

Looks like they may be getting better. 2 years or so ago when I joined. It was the first gym I went to. Thought it was a good gym. You had to go at very specific times or you wont be able to use certain equipment. If you get off late from your job. You won't be able to train. 24 hour fitness doesn't have the same strict time schedule. Your also limited to what you can use vs other gyms. I canceled my membership with them. However I was still being charged a few months after. I had to drop everything I was doing and drive over there to have them stop charging my account. I had them make copies of the paperwork to show my bank if they try and charge me again. What really bugged me at the time a few years ago. They somehow got a hold of my credit card that I didn't put on file. I literally just got the card from the bank. I had to cancel that card and order a new one. There were hidden fees that weren't explained, and it was a pain in the ### to cancel the membership. 24 is a much better facility. I had no hidden fees. Canceling is easy if I ever had to. Due to my busy schedule. I can train anytime. No waiting for the gym to open. Gym is never packed to the point I have to skip training.

Seems like a nice facility with friendly staff on hand BUT - NO SHOWERS. When you want to excercise before work, well... make sure you don't get too sweaty as there are NO SHOWERS here! I simply cannot believe it!

Fitness19 is the first gym I actually stuck with! The gym does not include lockers room but does have lockers for you to put your stuff in. The gym has all the gym equipment for body builders and those just looking to be fit. The gym's staff is super helpful and nice! The trainers are skilled and certified in what they. Ask for Mike he's been an awesome trainer so far and is helping me out with my form,etc. There's also a trainer by the name of Laura for any girl looking for some direction or help with their form, goals etc. She stays busy for sure. Facilities are always clean and machines are adequately maintained. The whole staff is freaking awesome and has been instrumental to my success. Not to mention how inexpensive the membership is here at fitness19. The staff explains the cost of the membership. I pay about $20 a month totally worth the value. Oh yeah, the internet is fast as well :) Drop by and talk the staff and have the give you a quick tour.

No frills gym. No classes, decent amount of machines and some free weights as well as treadmills, excercycles, and stair climber's for a low monthly fee. 3 changing rooms but no locker rooms, can get crowded and a few too many people that think that it's ok to sit on the machines and read texts between sets.

I've been too many gyms over the years and this one is definitely a community gym. Once you start working out here you get to know who goes at the same time. Everyone from the staff to the members is very friendly. This is an old school heavy weight gym meets modern fitness ideas.
