Lenney (spelling?) at the front desk, and Crystal in sales... Super helpful!

New in town and trying to find the right gym. Not only did they take the time to let me explore the place, they had really good vibes as well.

I really enjoy a variety of workouts, and especially functional stuff for staying active, and they had it all.

Had an amazing experience! The gym is excellent - clean, well-equipped, and offers access to all locations, including pools and saunas. Crys, the General Manager, was absolutely fantastic - super helpful, patient, and made it easy for me to figure out which membership package fit best. Highly recommend!

Clean gym, very nice staff, with a strange layout, but everything you could need. Crystal (manager) goes above and beyond to make guests feel heard and address their issues and great trainers, such as Matt, put time and personalized care into workouts instead of just counting reps. Keep it up Embarcadero crew, you’re appreciated.

The showers are way too hot. There is no way to change the temperature, you get one choice: scalding hot. I asked several employees and they said they know they are super hot, but there is nothing they can do about it. They said they’ve tried..

What does that mean?? Just hook up a cold water line and get a different shower handle that has more than ONE temperature. It’s not hard.

1 star bc having a working shower is a BASIC gym feature.

I’ll happily remove the one star once that’s fixed bc most other aspects, including employees, are nice.

Edit: Crystal (the manager) went above and beyond to make sure my feedback was heard and taken into account, something you rarely experience these days. Overall the gym is great - it’s well stocked, super central and wait times are low to none for the equipment. I’d especially recommend the cardio section, which, even though you have to access via an external flight of stairs, is always calm and quiet.

Original review:
I really want to love this gym, but the blatant lack of customer service, friendliness and “shrug, no I can’t help you and don’t really care about you as a paying customer and would rather be on my phone” attitude of the person at the reception in the morning has made me realize I’ll go elsewhere to have my workout needs met.

I’ve been with Fitness SF since they took over Active Sports 10 years ago. And the Embarcadero location has been a staple for me since then. Great location, comfortable spaces, and with updated equipment.

I also want to give a big thank you to my wonderful trainer Leah Golden who I’ve been with for over 10 years. She’s shaped my body and mind to what it is today, where I feel proud of myself. You’ve been an essential part of my training regiment, and I look forward to continue my journey with you. :)

Been going to this gym for the past 6 months— it's been a great experience. Plenty of machines, clean facilities, and not as crowded as other gyms in SF.

Recently been experimenting with different types of training, and was able to get advice from one of the fitness trainers, Matteo. Very knowledgeable and provided insights that would've taken me months to figure out. Overall, very grateful for this gym!

I’ve been using the facility for a month now and I really like it. I took a tour with the GM, Crystal Bree, and got to learn all of the in’s and out’s. She was amazing and answered all of my questions. It’s unique in the setup but the team at the Embarcadero location have made the most of it. This is not the first gym I’ve belonged to or gone to in SF, but it is definitely one of my favorites. They have everything I need for my fitness journey, except… a steam room or sauna. Maybe we can put that on the Christmas list for next year??

One of my favourite Fitness SF’s. Not so big, it consists of 3 floors and a separate cardio area in another building outside. The gym has everything you need an nicely located in the financial district. It is also always super clean and the staff is friendly! They don’t have bike racks inside unfortunately so you need to take a chance with leaving your bike outside and locking it. The lower floor consist of a weight floor and squat racks the middle floor is the bathroom and arm machines and the top floor is an open weight section. The cardio space in another building has a wide selection of different cardio machines. Great gym, can be very busy around peak times, but in non peak times it can be empty which I like!

Crystal Sealed the Deal for Me!

I’m usually a tough cookie to sell. I juggle 2 to 3 gym memberships at once because I can never find all the things I need at one place. For me, great staff can truly make or break the experience—and Crystal absolutely made it!

The gym itself is fantastic with its spacious layout, natural light, and the beautifully renovated upstairs area. But what truly stood out to me was Crystal’s warmth, professionalism, and her genuine passion for helping members feel welcome. She gave me an engaging tour, answered all my questions, and made me feel valued from the start, which convinced me to join.

I think it’s important to point out excellent individuals, especially in large franchise gyms like this. It’s easy for companies to lose sight of what truly matters, but recognizing quality employees is critical. Crystal’s dedication should absolutely be rewarded and recognized.

Thanks to Crystal, FITNESS SF - Embarcadero is now my go-to spot. If you’re looking for a gym where the staff make all the difference, Crystal will make you feel right at home.

On my very 1st day here, I was in the cardio room when a homeless, crazed man with bare feet wandered in, lay down at a spot near me & started screaming / staring. Shocked that FitnessSF would have such a breach - having an attentive check in person is a must. If they can’t be stringent about who they allow in, why charge a monthly $100 membership fee?

Once front desk was alerted by me, they did get rid of the person but definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. Would be 100% cautious that an incident like this is possible before enrolling.

Edit - Changing this to 2 stars because I appreciate the response & empathize homelessness is a citywide issue. That said, hopeful that better security & more attentive check in people will be deployed to ensure member safety so avoidable experiences like this don’t happen.

Only my 2nd time working out at this facility and love it already. Came over from another nearby location—one that has a disingenuous name as they’re not open all night any longer. If you are serious about your workouts, the extra money to join Fitness SF is worth it on so many levels. Cleanliness and quality of machines are beyond anything I’ve seen and it even smells nice in here. Very glad I made the change.

one of the best gyms I’ve been to in a long time. I had an hour to squeeze in a workout before a flight and used their free day pass for first time customers. I was so grateful that the process to get in was quick (no time wasted trying to sell me on a membership/ the assistant manager who helped me was wonderful.) I LOVE that they have an outdoor workout space and with a beautiful view to boot! What a treat to be able to enjoy the weather. Been coming to Fitness SF Embarcadero for over a year now, and have had good experiences thus far.

The equipment are essentially all new and up to date. The gym isn’t very crowded on weekends, thankfully. The weekday rush tapers out around 7 pm (the gym is located at the base of two massive business buildings, so set expectations during the morning and day accordingly). There’s a nice outdoor space on the third floor where I like to row if the weather is fair.

Good equipments and location. But showering experience is bad. Please install hooks in the shower rooms for clothes and towels. Also, the water is too small and it sometimes gets too hot and turning the handle does not change the temperature. The ventilation in the weights area is not good; need to go upstairs for fresh air after 20 min workout there.

This is a new location and it's ok but it's super small and cramped. Don't ever think about going at rush hour. A lot of youngsters go here so expect them to be sitting on machines texting and facebooking instead of doing what is serious people go to a gym for....and that's to work out. It's frustrating to say the least.

Alright everyone.. hold your breathe... this is going to be a long one.
*I have only written about 3-5 yelp reviews in my entire life.. so please keep that in mind*

This gym is absolutely amazing... I am so confused why there isn't a million plus 5 star reviews.

Okay so let me give you a little bit of background information... I love working out and it's a huge part of my lifestyle.. I workout typically 6 days a week. Some context: I was living on the East Coast for 2 years and moved back to the Bay Area (SF to be exact). I was on the hunt for a good gym (CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, not overly packed so that I could actually use the equipment without twiddling my thumbs waiting for that next person to be done, and positive and inclusive environment, and something not too far from my place/work).

I moved back to SF in August and LITERALLY not kidding, looked at 5+ different gyms:
- YMCA Embarcadero - this gym straight up smelt like chlorine

- 24 Hour Fitness Embarcadero - guys this gym smells so disgusting and is NOT clean at all. I literally would rather work out at home or on my balcony then go here.
- Equinox - alright,I love the eucalyptus towels..and the gym is nice, BUT its literally PACKED PACKED every single day.. how am I supposed to workout waiting in 10-25+ min lines to use equipment. And how am I supposed to pay over $200 to wait in line?!?
- Planet Fitness - doesn't meet up to my gym standards
- Bay Club near Embarcadero - their is literally carpet where the weights are... it literally reminds you of an OLD OLD building.. not into it. Also this is about $200... not going to pay that for carpet near the weights.
Alright so you guys get it.. I did my research and went way overboard in ensuring I find the best gym that I will be happy going to everyday.

Finally, after feeling really upset/down since all the gyms weren't great in SF.. I thought well I guess it cant hurt to check out ONE last gym. After stepping foot in Fitness SF Embarcadero I was introduced to Ralph. He was the one that gave me a tour and I was blown away by his demeanor and customer service. I could go on and on about Ralph, he is always happy, makes everyone feel welcome in the gym, and has great customer service.
I know... I know this email sounds very repetitive, energetic, and a bit overly enthusiastic, but I want you to know truly how much this gym and environment has helped me in all aspects of my life. I've gotten back into working out regularly and actually look forward to seeing Fitness SF Embarcadero employees.

Point is: I am sure most of you want a gym that is 1) reasonably priced 2) CLEAN!!! 3) Positive Environment

To be honest, I didn't care to pay a large amount for a gym if it met all of my needs but Equinox and Bay Club didn't meet all of them.

Great pros about Fitness SF:
- You can go to all of the locations with the membership you don't need to pay more
- Outside turf which is awesome! You can bring equipment/weights/rowers out there and workout
- Gym is never that packed at all which I love. Selfishly I don't want people to keep joining ;), but DAMN this is seriously a hidden gem!!
- Great resources!! Khaliah and Leah are so nice and helpful! They are both personal trainers and always give me tips/advice to help me achieve my goals... FOR FREE!
- I met the President (Zhou) after I joined and he went above and beyond and literally handed me his business card. What kind of President at any company does that?
- They really care about their members and you will find the resources you need to achieve whatever goals you are after!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GYM! Please feel free to message me directly if you have anymore questions. I PROMISE PROMISE you will not regret joining! So so glad I found this hidden gem!

The gym has been getting renovated for over a year. It’s still full of construction stuff. Has basic freeweights, sparse machines, and basic cardio. The roof deck is kind of cool. They are only interested in communicating with you when they want money. They pass the buck, and are slightly rude.

Wow. It's clear that fitness SF took over an existing gym and tried to open as quickly as possible. It's tough to find this place (pro tip: it's on the 2nd floor of 2 embarcadero). The equipment is super old. And the space is tiny and spread across two floors. On the plus side the lockers are OK and it wasn't crowded on a Saturday. Do yourself a favor and go to the other locations until the upgrades are done.
