I’ve been a member over a year now, and the gym does have good qualities, but it is overshadowed but the lack of cleanliness in the locker rooms. I’ve never seen the women’s showers not look they way they do in these photos, with chunks of hair all of the place. I’ve had to stop showering at the gym all together given how dirty and unsanitary it is. Additionally, there is a rotating cast of items that are always broken or out of commission, across cardio, weights, water fountains, bathrooms, hot tubs, etc,

Gym is okay, it's the people that use it that's where the issue lies, and with no negative feedback or repercussions from management, you'll often see the following:
People hogging equipment for 15+ minutes while supersetting and scrolling through Instagram.
I've once seen a guy supersetting four different equipment at a time.
Weights all around in whatever they feel like should be, if not at the machine altogether. You're not strong enough to take some 45s from some equipment? Well, you're out of luck.
The lack of repercussions from management makes the experience, in general, terrible. Everyone's paying the same price, so why do some of the gym goers seem to own the gym more than others?

Great staff. I've seen this gym location change owners 3 times, from Club One, to Gold's, and now FSF. Company's have their pros and cons, but some of the continual issues with cleanliness at this location at current are really disappointing.

Kayla is a true factor in making my customer experience a better one at this gym. She holds discernment, listens and displays professionalism in her demeanor. She helps with the members to ensure we're taken care of and doesn't leave the vulnerable seniors behind. I have noticed some positive tangibles in her contributions to the improvements in the women's locker room as well. Thank you for making the gym a happier place when we see your smile and grace.

I’ve been training at the Filmore location for a little while now, and overall it’s been a great experience. One worker I would love to give a special shoutout to is Daniela Salgado, one of the managers at this location.
Daniela Salgado is always welcoming and helpful, creating an environment that feels comfortable for all fitness levels. One thing I’ve especially noticed is her efficiency and assertiveness—she consistently steps in and takes initiative whenever staff are unavailable, ensuring everything continues to run smoothly.
Her leadership and attentiveness really stand out and add to the positive experience at this gym.
Excellent job Daniela !!

I have been a member of this gym for about a year. The condition of the gym has decreased especially for the women’s side.
This is everything that is broken today. 😭 Plus they increased the price for this type of service. Also they make us grab towels in the front but is very inconvenient in case you are showering or are in the steam room.

A great selection of nice equipment and a pool (kudos for bringing back the traditional circle swim system). It's a very popular location, however, and gets very crowded during peak times. There's also a strong "see and be seen" vibe to this place and a notable lack of basic gym etiquette, such as not using weight machines with seats to lounge and scroll and not taking selfies in the locker rooms. I've never seen the staff do anything to address these problems.

The worst gym I have ever seen (Fillmore).
I came and asked for a tour. In normal places, people say 'Sure' and give it. They, on Fillmore, asked me to
* write down my full name, then type it,
* make a photo, sign their terms and conditions,
* share my e-mail and phone number, and
* provide my ID, from which they collected my address and date of birth
as if I was going to become a member, but I wasn't. All this personal information was collected JUST for a short tour. Within a minute, they started sending me their spam.
At the same time, it's a quest to find any contact data on their website, including corporate address, phone, or email. The so-called 'Contact Us' page contains zero contact information. Two links from this page lead either to a member account or to the help center, which also contains zero contact information. The email link at the bottom contains '[email protected]'.

I asked to see the size of pool. Instead of walking me ten feet to look through the windows or asking me to go up four stairs where you can see the size of the pool, the staff tried to get all my information and sign a waiver. Talk about corporate thuggery!!!
I just joined a gym yesterday, Jewish community center, and they gave me a full tour without asking for any personal information
After deciding not to give my personal info to the staff and upon walking out, I noticed the pool.
The officious manager Jack was insinuating I was giving attitude and wished me a wonderful day. The insincere remarks and unnecessary personalization should keep anyone from ever considering joining this gym.
Where do you have to give details about your life to see a pool, a house , anywhere?
Such lousy business practice.
So insincere and rude.

Great gym for the price. Probably the best value in all SF. However, at this location there’s almost always at least one machine that’s broken—and it takes them over a month to get it fixed. Management should try to properly maintain the machines instead of waiting for them to break, or at least act quicker when one does break.

I received a collection notice for a $300 debt, even though the fitness club never notified me—no calls, no emails, and no attempts to charge my payment method for three months. I don’t speak English fluently, and I was never provided a translated agreement, which may violate California language access laws. It feels like the debt was intentionally allowed to accumulate just to send it to collections. On top of that, I’ve been trying to contact the San Francisco location, but no one is responding. This feels like unfair and deceptive business practice.

Today I visited FITNESS SF Fillmore after seeing their offer for a free first-day pass on their website. I am resident of SF and showed my Resident ID card.
Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected. Upon arrival, the manager refused to honor the free pass, insisting that I pay $35 instead. When I asked for an explanation, the response was vague and unhelpful, leaving me feeling frustrated and disappointed. They mentioned that they no longer have the free first-day passes, yet it’s still clearly advertised on both their website and Google Maps.
It’s incredibly misleading when businesses advertise one thing and fail to follow through with it 😞

Extremely disappointed with the customer service and management at Fitness SF. I had a free day pass on my phone, yet they still forced me to pay $30 for a single visit—even after I explained that I’m moving to San Francisco this month and was considering signing up for a membership. I’ve never experienced anything like this when trying out a gym. Most gyms offer a free pass to check out the facility before committing, but apparently, Fitness SF is more interested in squeezing money out of potential members than actually gaining them. I was only there for an hour, making the charge even more ridiculous. The customer service was terrible, and the way they handled the situation guaranteed that I won’t be returning, recommending this gym, or signing a membership. If they had honored the free pass, I might have actually considered joining. Their loss.

The pool is a scam. I absolutely do not recommend this place.
We wanted to come here for a single entry to the pool and the guy at the reception let us in without any warning that the lanes have to be reserved.
The result is that we paid $30 for literally nothing. And the price would have been excessive even if we had been able to swim.
I will never return to this or any other space of Fitness SF. And I recommend anyone to consider other training options.

I came to this gym because I’m new to the area and was looking for a place to go consistently. The gym is very clean, with good equipment, but it does get quite busy. The women’s locker room is nice and includes showers and a sauna.
Overall, my experience was good, but my friends and I encountered a situation in the locker room that left us feeling uncomfortable. While we were trying to open our locker, a woman, slightly older than us, accused us of locking her locker and claimed we were locking others’ lockers for fun. She continued to insult us, calling us “10-year-olds” and being generally disrespectful. This interaction was a big turn-off.
While the gym itself is nice, I didn’t feel a particularly friendly or welcoming environment. The locker room, as a space where women are already vulnerable, should feel safe and respectful, but my friends and I felt the opposite during this encounter.
Aside from that, I would recommend the gym for its facilities—but be mindful of how some people might behave.

The Fillmore location of Fitness SF may not be the most glamorous of the locations in San Francisco, but IMO, it's the best facility overall. Firstly, it has a pool, which all SF swimmers know is a huge plus. This location attracts a wide variety of people of all different ages and fitness levels and everyone is welcome. The team here is awesome with top notch staff and trainers. Patrick always makes my day with his fun energy and support and my trainers, Sherriff and Valeri are skilled and know how to get results. The housekeeping team also does a great job which is so important in a great gym experience. I spend a lot of time at the gym as part of my wellness plan and to rehab several injuries- the experience at Fitness SF Fillmore very much helps to keep me motivated.

UPDATE: I am changing my review to four stars. Although the manager did not get back to me until I posted a 1 star review on both Google and Yelp, they have explained the situation and remediations/training for the employee who was dealing with me. Thanks!
--
Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with one of the employees who was working there. When I first signed up for this establishment, it was very great. I was able to talk with one of the managers over there who agreed to let me leave my longboard in one of the offices since there's no space. I made sure to clear this up before signing a contract with them because this was critical as I used my longboard for travel.
What ended up happening is for several months, around four months, I calmly followed this procedure putting my longboard in the manager's office. Then all that changed when a new hire was made. Her name is Selena, and she is not fit for any customer facing roles. What happened next was an extreme sequence of disrespect.
I was in a rush and needed to use the gym just to shower. I went in like any other day, yet I had the extreme misfortune of having Selena as my greeter. As I got to scan in, she says, "Where are you putting that?". And I say, in the manager's office. She then tell me to wait so she can confirm within the fitness group chat to see if I'm allowed to do this. Now confirming itself really isn't that big of a problem. Maybe she wants to be very cautious that no one is breaching the office, or this was an odd request. Fair enough. Me and the manager who I signed with (Kevin Williams) had a handshake deal that I would be allowed to store my longboard in the manager's office which I've been doing for several months. I honestly do wish that she'd just let me put it in as usual, but that's okay. I took this as a favor from Kevin and an effort to make my experience better, which is why I loved this gym.
After this happened I told her I was in a big rush and she told me to wait by these couches. I asked her if there was an estimated time of when she can let me know and she said "no." I felt like I was a cattle who was forced to stay in some area and not allowed to know when I would be able to enter the gym or when i would be able to leave even though i am paying member. She then got on the phone and after waiting about five minutes (keep in mind I'm in a crazy rush) I go and ask her and she just puts a finger up and does not let me talk.
These are just actions I can describe on a review. If you viewed her face, demeanor, I thought I was talking to my worst enemy, someone who seemed like they hated me.
Have you ever faced a business where you really need something, and you are facing bureaucrat who seems like they hate their job, hates you, and has no interest in solving their problem? Yes, these are the types of experiences I imagine to have at the DMV, but not FitnessSF. What an embarrassment!
Given I could sense Selena had zero interest in solving my problem, and that I was being held like a cattle in the waiting area, my next goal was to find an adult who could help me instead. I am a business owner myself, and this is no way to treat customers.
Luckily, FitnessSF has some ability to hire some decent people, because I talked with one of the trainers and the managers. Guess what?
She solved the whole problem with three steps
1. Listened to what I needed ("I need to go in and take a shower, where can I keep my board")
2. Proposed a speedy solution ("Got you. Why don't you keep it in lost and found for now - we can help verify where to keep it later)."
3. Went on my way
This whole interaction was about 15 seconds, while the one with the nincompoop took 10 minutes of "I'm on the phone, don't talk to me", "wait over here", and "I said I'm busy".
It's sad how one bad apple can ruin the experience of an entire gym.

Love the gym, great staff and amenities. Clean and ran by nice people. One thing I cant wrap my head around is the new infrared sauna in the men's locker room. It should be considerably hotter than 140 degrees and the light should be dimmed. Most guys do not prefer to use it as it isnt hot enough and the lighting is uncomfortable. I feel it was an investment used to account for the larger crowds that gather in the original sauna, but in the end does not help.

I’m giving this gym one star, which could’ve easily been a five-star review.
The gym itself is very nice, with excellent equipment and great amenities like regular saunas, infrared saunas, an indoor pool, a cold plunge, and a jacuzzi. However, the huge issue is the behavior of some members.
There are many people who stare inappropriately and persistently while you’re working out, CHANGING, or even in the saunas. Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated incident—it happened to me regularly. And for context, I’m a man. Normally, I don’t care if someone stares at me, but at this gym, it’s excessive and extremely uncomfortable.
I’ve always trained at the Transbay location, where I’ve noticed a much better environment. Many of my female friends have also switched to Transbay for the same reasons—they had worse experiences than me at the Fillmore location.

The gym is well-equipped and has a clean and organized atmosphere. All members took hygiene seriously, and I noticed everyone wiping down equipment after use. The men’s locker room was clean, tidy and has a dry (Finnish) sauna. Lockers don’t need padlocks and are easily setup
I want to express my gratitude to Patrick for making the signup process so easy and friendly and Sarah for providing me with a tour of the gym. Their assistance was greatly appreciated. I can’t wait train again at Fitness SF

Great gym! Peak hours are busy, but if you don't go right after work this is the best gym in the area. Staff is nice - Kayla recognizes me when I sign in for the pool - it's very sweet.

Asked to store my bicycle while I do a quick workout because I didn’t have a lock and they said “there’s no space” lol. There’s plenty of space at the gym. I’m obviously frustrated because I cycled for an hour to get here. But putting feelings aside, the lack of empathy in their communication was the especially disappointing part.
Time to check out some other gyms

Update:
The Fillmore fitness SF just keeps getting better. Since I wrote this review they've updated the women's locker room including the lockers, showers, and lighting in the sauna. New machines have been added (including the glute drive machine I had wished for!) and space has been expanded in the gym itself! I love being a member here. Even the yoga classes offered now on Fridays have been excellent!
I’ve been working out here since October 2021 and have had a great experience so far. I don’t have a problem waiting to use any equipment. They have tons of power racks which is awesome. I wish they would add a hip thrust machine like Nautilus glute drive.
The locker rooms are clean (there is a vague scent of feces constantly lingering in some parts of the locker room, and the glass on some of the showers needs to be cleaned/replaced)… but they are overall pleasant to use. I haven’t tried to pool yet but it looks comfortable and clean!

The gym is fine, but some of the front desk staff are awful. At least specifically Lion and Sara.
I have leg injuries so the only exercise I can do is swimming rehab.
I showed up before 11:30 and was told the lanes were full, even though one was open. They told me I couldn't sign up until 11:45 for the 12 spot and theres only one left. I told them I'd wait.
I waited by the desk and approached it at 11:42 and Lion told me he gave it away. When I asked how he could give it to someone else before 11:45 but not me he just laughed and said he didn't want to give it away but he did.
When I explained my situation he just continued laughing and said I could come back and try for a later swim time, which I couldn't make because it would be an hour of waiting before even getting in the pool.
The level of disrespect to do that, waste my time , and then just sit there and continuously laugh in my face like he made a silly joke is next level.

I've been going to this gym since the 1990's, paying dues religiously since (probably $20k in total) over 3 ownerships. FitnessSF has really brought the club downhill. The showers are always broken. The swim suit spinner is always broken. The shower outside pool used to be warm, now cold. They removed carpets from the dressing rooms. They replaced the normal towels with tiny dishtowel size ones, which they also don't clean as well. They don't provide towels in the locker rooms, so they will only give you 2 at the front desk. If you forget, or need one after undressing or in swim suit, you have to parade through the entire gym to the front desk to get another towel.
To top it off, they just increased dues by 17% and when I wrote to inquire about the increase, they cancelled my membership with no further interaction or confirmation from me. Their Dir of Operations, Don Dickerson, appears to have had a real negative impact on the club (apparently, just short term view on numbers).
Check out the alternatives like USF Koret for awesome pool, and even public pools like Rossi or Sava pools.

Fitness SF Fillmore is hands down my favorite gym in the city! I recently set up a company account here, and I have to give a special shout-out to Dara, who made the whole process seamless and enjoyable. She was an absolute delight to work with — super organized, friendly, and passionate about fitness. Dara took the time to personally meet with each of our employees who signed up, gave us a tour, and made sure everyone felt welcome. Her enthusiasm for working out is contagious!
The Fillmore location has everything you could need: a pool, deadlift rooms, a sauna (my personal favorite), and incredibly friendly staff. The gym is always clean, and each Fitness SF location offers something unique, but Fillmore really stands out. If you’re thinking about signing up, I highly recommend asking for Dara. She’s a gem!

I have never dealt with a more annoying and dysfunctional email newsletter system in my life. The gym was fine, the only reason I didn't go to 1 star.
I promise I am tech literate. I have pressed unsubscribe so many times and emailed additional addresses there to ensure I am removed to no success. This seems like some sort of sick joke. I still get emails at least once every few months despite ending my membership, requesting to end emails, etc and moving away to a different country 2 years ago.

This is more about the etiquette of gym goers but wish the rules were more enforced there’s always older women taking phone calls in the locker room, using phones in the sauna to watch videos on max volume, and also blocking the door to the sauna by laying on the floor with their junk. Really considering finding a different gym that can enforce these rules better

Really great gym. Kind staff, they keep it cleaner than many gyms, lap pool, cold plunge, hot tub, sauna, 9x olympic platforms... Yeah there are the old guys who don’t actually workout and use the sauna as a day spa, one in particular is especially curmudgeonly and can give you a hard time, but that’s life, it’s still SF. Amazing that a gym this comprehensive exists in SF at all.

First of all, let me say that the staff is incredible. Really great, knowledgeable, and down to earth. This review is for the gym membership, itself. The gym is going through needed renovations which has left the women’s locker room unusable for more than a month now. Locker rooms (including a bathroom) are a pretty necessary part of using a gym. As a result, I can’t actually go to the gym and they refuse to credit my account. Also note that if you decide to leave, any training packages cannot be refunded. HOWEVER, NONE OF THIS MONEY GOES TO THE INSTRUCTORS.
Prices keep going up, while services go down. Not worth it.

I had an awful experience with the general manager here.
I'm a member at the Fillmore location and was a member in Oakland previously. So I've long been a customer of Fitness SF (several years in fact).
The Fillmore location is currently closed due to some plumming issue for a full week. I asked if there was going to be any kind of a rebate or partial refund since I still payed for the full month but I don't have access to the thing I am paying for.
The general manager at the Fillmore location was incredibly condescending and said that there will not be any sort of rebate because I still have access to the other branches.
He then said it was like I was asking them to pay me every time I choose not to go to the gym. Which is plainly absurd because they are not providing the one thing I am paying them to provide.
When I said that all I was asking was to be treated fairly, he said that I should treat them fairly becuase the plumming issue isn't "their fault". But the fact that they are selling me access to their gym means that delivering that access is their responsibility, regardless of whatever caused problems with their plumming.
When I pressed that this seemed unfair for me to have to pay for a full month but not get a full month of access, he said "so you want to cancel your membership? It sounds like you're saying you want to cancel." Which seemed to be his way of saying "deal with it or cancel."
I don't know how you can run a business and treat your customers like this. It's not a good look.

I love the pool! I'm pleased generally about the cleanliness and accessibility of the facilities. The only note on that front is this: There is an elevator but to access it you have to either come from the garage or have a key fob for the Fillmore apartment building.
The staff was very nice and once I had a tour from Crystal I felt confident about navigating and using the facilities. Gyms can be very intimidating but I think this worked out well for me so far. Crystal was fantastic!
I'm so glad there's a pool! And salt water at that! I am over the moon that I found a place that had a special price for Fillmore Apartment residents where I could continue the gains I've made in physical therapy. There's even several spaces with enough room for me to do my PT exercises and I even noticed some lighter hand weights. (I believe the lightest set I saw was 2.5 lbs.)
Did I mention membership includes access to the pool?
If you need a trainer, I recommend Billy!

It's a good spot; has a big Astro turf room for stretching, jump rope, heavy bag, etc, and a lot of cardio machines, plus a few dedicated rooms for squat racks, etc. As others have said, it's not spacious, but they did a good job of fitting equipment into the space provided. You can get a good work out here, and everybody is friendly. Plus they have massage chairs that are free. And, for the price I pay, I think it's a great value.

The pool lane signup system is hellish. They insist on signing up for lanes 15 min before the session, but you have to walk in your swimsuit to the front desk to find out if there’s even availability. Half the time I come to swim I wait 45 min and then leave because nothing is available and their system is such that you have no predictability. You just have to come and waste your time. I’ve been a member of Fitness SF for about six months and I go to this location 2-3x/week. For a mid-tier gym, it is pretty good. There is plenty of equipment, during peak hours you still are able to get access to your desired equipment and the amenities are relatively good. There are plenty of squat racks and a whole functional strength training area, in addition to traditional cardio and weightlifting equipment. On the amenities side, there are always plenty of towels, the locker room is nice, and we’ll equipped with a sauna and showers. They’re currently in the process of remodeling the locker rooms so they should be even better on the other side. While I don’t swim, it also has a pool, which seems relatively nice. My only complaint is the lack of a studio, which has led to few if any classes at this location. Overall I recommend this gym. My only hesitation giving it 5 stars is that this is not a luxury gym, and I have been to nicer, better apportioned mid-tier gyms.

Can’t fix it in house, have to email a generic email and you will never get a response - I’ve emailed 5 times. Now they’re asking members to bring their IDs as they can’t figure out their app issues - talked to the manager of a different location while he was working front desk.
