I was referred to Folk Yoga by Audrey and then just so happens that it was located 3 blocks from where I was visiting, SCORE! The Yoga is amazing. I really love Catherine at the front desk; she makes a point to welcome me, by name, to each class. I am 8 classes in to my first month membership and honestly every class has been great. I have found my Yoga Home in SF.

I love this studio. I was a regular Urban Flow student, but when they folded I was lost for many years and just couldn’t find a studio and stopped practicing (sadly). I found Folk over the summer after having seen it countless times either walking the dogs or waiting for Chipotle. I recently started going to mission Folk and love the small studio vibe. Mostly I do online classes due to time restraints and dog care. Platform is solid snd only once did no class ever appear.

I love Folk! I rediscovered my yoga practice at Folk after a few years away from the mat. The teachers are all great, and I’ve particularly enjoyed Monica and Roy. Monica’s strength conditioning classes are especially good for paying close attention to form and advancing your practice! I’ll be moving out of the city in a couple of weeks and Folk will be one of the places I miss the most πŸ’œ

This studio is a beautiful 3 story house with a wide range of classes offered. It definitely has a homey charm and some quirks in the architecture, as noted in some other reviews. I did a 200 Hour YTT that was primarily at this location, so I spent many hours in the studio spaces and grew to love it. The space is always clean, the teachers and staff are incredible at what they do, and each space offers something different. Visit!

Been going to Folk NOPA for almost 6 months now and I’m really enjoying it. The instructors are clearly knowledgeable and I like that they usually give options to make a pose more easy or more challenging depending on your level. The location itself is very cute, particularly the 2nd floor room that has a cozy cabin vibe and the top floor room which has a high ceiling and feels airy/refreshing. Overall I have been having a really good experience with the studio and recommend it!

Folk is awesome. The staff and teachers are welcoming and encouraging, allowing you to properly challenge yourself. The spectrum of classes and workshops lends itself to really nice sequencing and yoga-centric wellness exploration. So many great instructors -- Erica, Abi, Brynn, Roy, Rachel, Anna, Rosa, and many more -- with deep, enlightening yoga history + pose alignment knowledge. The front desk employees are so lovely and friendly as well, which makes a huge difference especially when joining a new studio...One of the best yoga spots I've experienced, with a nice balance of community, fitness, and knowledge.

They use any chance to get money out of you, I signed up for a new student experience and I couldn't cancel it after one month and automatically renewed and they refused to refund me even though I email them at the same day. They also never miss to charge you for no show and late class cancellation fees. The studio is ok, a few of the teachers are fine too.

I've been coming to this studio for many years. Initially I went mostly through ClassPass but decided to buy a full annual membership since I wanted to become more serious about my yoga practice. I've tried many yoga studios and Roy Gan is one of my favorite instructors. Roy doesn't teach at any other studio and others clearly like his teaching style too since his classes are busy. His classes are seamlessly choreographed since he was a dancer. I also like Rachel Soon, Martin Scott, and Chelsea Van Billiard but there are lots of good instructors.

I also appreciate that there are a number of different studios throughout SF with many class types (vinyasa, restorative, HIIT, yoga sculpt etc.)

I’ve always enjoyed the classes and the teachers at Folk; they’ve been fantastic. However, I'm extremely disappointed with the management and how they've handled the closure of the Sunset location.

I initially purchased a 6-month membership primarily to attend the Sunset studio, which was conveniently located within walking distance for me. Unfortunately, a few months into my membership, the location closed. Their other locations don't work well for me due to their distance and my work schedule. I’ve been trying to resolve the issue of a refund since then. It’s been almost 10 weeks since my first contact with management, and I've had little luck. My emails are mostly ignored, or it takes weeks to get a response.

I was offered a refund in the form of studio credits, but it wasn't prorated. They proposed to refund the full price of my 6-month membership and then charge me for each month I used at a significantly higher monthly rate, resulting in a much lower refund than expected. They also refused to provide a monetary refund instead of studio credits. While I understand that a no-refund policy is reasonable under normal circumstances, I don't think it's an acceptable option in the event of a studio closure (and according to California Consumer protection laws, such service disruption normally constitutes a breach of contract).

I don’t normally write reviews and prefer not to speak negatively about any business. However, the lack of response from management and not being able to reach a resolution for over 10 weeks prompted me to share this experience (as well as consider taking a formal action).

Amazing first time back to yoga with Nicole yesterday, Yoga 101 πŸ’– Extremely smart, knowledgeable instructor with a very intimate ritual/ intuitive nature. Inclusivity at its finest. Was very intimated coming in as a very body self conscious, POC, gay, identify butch woman. And even got to touch hands with my partner during our long poses πŸ₯°. It’s almost like she knew. Nicole made it so easy to feel included and beautiful in so many ways. Definitely going to keep coming back for more. Thank you!

Studio is quite rundown and could use some interior design/artistic love. The top floor studio is ugly. There are no proper change rooms and only one bathroom. It’s not that hard to keep a place looking nice. Only took one power flow class which consisted of a bunch of poorly sequenced postures that took us nowhere. Props weren’t properly cleaner after either. I don’t recommend this studio, though the logo is cute!

as all reviews are, my opinion is subject to my own personal taste, so take it with a grain of salt. i am visiting from out of town and was excited to try a new studio. all my instructors focus on the mindful, meditative aspect of yoga – which i feel is respectful in preserving the sacred nature of the practice.

so... i certainly did not expect to have signed up for a fitness class with an instructor who was sometimes barely audible over patriotic music (really? they acknowledged the contentious nature of the 4th of july but decided to play a special star spangled banner playlist anyway? i have never had a worse savasana lol)

i didn't feel comfortable doing my own thing, as the instructor did not feel inclusive or accommodating towards those with disabilities or limitations. i occasionally did anyway, as this just felt like yoga poses being co-opted for a fast-paced, spiritless fitness routine. perhaps some folks prefer this style, it's just not for me.

on the bright side the first class is half off, so you don't have to pay the full price for your first trial. they also had a mat for me to borrow free of charge.

This yoga studio has a beautiful relaxing garden and is in lovely Victorian house. My favorite teachers are Ryan Gerard and Daniela Rizza. Daniela’s classes are thoughtful… the flows are creative and build towards a more challenging pose. Ryan brings a friendly energy and provides very clear alignment cues for every pose that make me feel confident that I’m in a position that is productive and safe for my body. Thank you! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Not coming back here.

Studio: The studio is very clean and neat. There are props available like blocks, straps, blankets.

Class: The class I took was flow & restore with Christie. The class itself could have been better, but this review is mostly about the instructor.

Instructor:

-The instructor did not bother to introduce themselves (and we were also pretty early to class)

-They didn't really greet anyone in the class

-They started with really awkward poses rather than warming up first

-They made almost no effort to explain the poses as you were doing them. I have some yoga experience and training in contortion, so am familiar with how to stretch safely and not hurt myself. However- I brought a partner who is new to yoga and isn't aware of how to do certain poses.

-My partner mentioned to the instructor that he was new - and Christie completely ignored this. I spent half my time during the class trying to quietly give my friend tips- telling them how to square their hips, not overextend their knee during a lunge, or suggest gentler, alternative poses, since the instructor did not suggest ANY.

-Christie did not ask anyone about injuries or accomodations, which I feel is pretty standard at the beginning of any class. It seems they just assumed everyone could do every single pose, and did not take this into consideration at all.

-Randomly noticed- there wasn't even music, which made the whole thing even more awkward ?

-At one point they announced that they would come around to adjust some people, but they didn't make a point of asking for consent to touch anyone. In any case, I only saw them do one adjustment the entire class?

The whole thing was awkward and uninviting. I feel terrible for bringing my partner here, especially as he was new to yoga. Glad he still managed to have a good time and not get hurt!

I have to say, this is probably the most disappointing instructor that I have had in yoga. They were completely aloof, and made no effort to connect with the class. They gave very limited instructions and only intervened (verbally) when someone was already doing a pose wrong- at which point someone could have already hurt themselves...

They stood at the front of the class most of the time, but would often say the name of a pose without actually doing it themselves, which was confusing for anyone unfamiliar with what the pose was. I'm grateful it wasn't just me and my partner who were confused by this- I would look up and often see a few others trying to figure out what we're actually supposed to be doing.

The entire class felt like it was just being phoned in.

I get the sense that the instructor is either inexperienced, or just not invested in this. Possibly both. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and consider that maybe it was an off day for them- but it's a huge deal breaker for me when I have instructors who don't at least care about safety and accessibility.

I will echo one of the past comments about the overall vibe of this studio - it does not feel very community oriented. I found that it was not an encouraging environment, and also does not seem focused at all on inclusivity or diversity...

I have been attending this studio for 3 months and I recently decided to terminate my subscription and not practicing with them any more.
The classes are good if you want to stay active but not tailored to master specific poses. So if you are looking for a more serious yoga training(like me) this is not the place for you. But if you want to practice flow and have restorative poses this is the best place for you.
They provide all props except yoga mat.
They have large beautiful studios.
There are couple of deal breaking issue in their subscription for me:
1- The instructors do not check on students who are joining virtually. I mostly went to classes in person but for few times I joined livestream it was more like a YouTube video rather than a class. Even if you join in person instructors do not comment on whether you are doing poses correctly or not. I personally find that not very safe specially with more complicated poses. Students can easily injure themselves.
2- If you cancel a class they charge you 20 $ but if they cancel almost all of classes ( which was the case for the last month of my subscription) they would not refund you. So be prepared to spend 170 on a session or two if there are some holidays during a month or Covid/flu cases rise up.
3- Overall they do not have a sense of community. If you are looking for a community this studio is not it.

Came here after the recommendation from a few friends. There's another yoga studio near my house so my first thought was "why would I want to take MUNI to go to another studio that's further away?", but I did and I'm glad that I did! Each studio (like each teacher) has a different style and personality. A few things that stood out to me already in the times I've visited is (again, just compared to my experiences at other studios, yoga and otherwise):
- Sense of community: I will admit, right before my first class with Roy I was feeling she in the new studio and more than a bit apprehensive as it was my first "hardcore" class since pandemic started, but the front desk staff (sorry, didn't catch the name!) was so friendly and welcoming. During the class, Roy knew my and other students' (regulars I assume) names, which really helped with feeling "seen" in a large class
- Didn't feel too "strict": I (unfortunately) was a little late for a class due to poor weather and delayed transit, but there were no issues with entering the class late but quietly.
- Mat storage: I don't take advantage of this since I like to visit different places, but my understanding is that membership students can store their mat at the studio - a nice perk!
- YTT: I haven't taken teacher training here, but am considering it. I went to the open house to learn more and also followed up via email with my additional questions, and have liked everything I've heard so far. Administratively they have multiple trainings with different focus/styles/leveling which seem fun/informative even if you have no intention of becoming an instructor.
Can't wait to be back for more - if you try it, yoga'na love it too ;)

The class is great but the front desk tends to be really inconsistent and annoying. I am 23 weeks pregnant and booked their prenatal yoga class which occurs at 6:30pm on Wednesdays. I wrapped up my work quickly and left for the class at 5:45pm from Embarcadero. Even though I left 45 mins before the class, I reached at 6:37pm due to heavy traffic and bad parking situation in the area (this usually takes me 20-25mins). Rochelle at front desk was adamant and didn't let me in the class, even after a lot of begging. I was tired and sore and was looking forward to getting some relief. It was my only option for a prenatal class in the city and in my previous attendance i have seen ladies walk in till 6:45. I am sad that this is not an option for anymore because it's impossible for me to leave an hour before for this class. I understand their policy but I hope they show some leniency and compassion for women in this vulnerable state.

Bad Karma. During the pandemic, Moxie offered me and others a lifetime membership if I kept paying monthly dues at the pre-pandemic level, even though classes went full remote and everyone was struggling. I did. Moxie sold to Yoga Garden and Yoga Garden cancelled everyone's life time memberships, no explanation, no apologies. It took months to get an answer ("they can't afford to honor the deal anymore"), and still no apology, refund for reneging or offer to follow up with Moxie on why they sold w/o disclosing. I would've been OK with paying more money, but no one wants to feel screwed over by their yoga studio.

Soooo amazing!! I came here randomly to a Barre class because I wanted to check out yoga places in SF on a weekend trip. It was absolutely brilliant! Angelique was such a great teacher and really made us work hard πŸ˜‚ The studio is clean and bright and you can also borrow yoga mats. Each studio is named after the 4 elements, which was a lovely touch. There were only four of us in the Barre class, which meant we got loads of attention from Angelique. The building and reception area are also beautiful and very SF style! Afterwards, I asked the receptionist and some of the girls in the class for some brekkie recommendations and they were so kind, gave me lots of great tips and places to go. Thank you for making my morning and being the highlight of my trip so far, to the entire team at Yoga Garden SF! πŸ™

I like Yoga Garden for their afternoon classes, but had a very frustrating experience in their morning class. I signed up for a 7:30am class and arrived right on time. They had bolted the front door of the entrance. Never seen that before. I checked: are they closed? Nope. Called and rang several times. No answer. I walked back to my house feeling very annoyed. Why? The inconsistency. I come to these classes regularly in the afternoon. Every class the teacher waits at least 5 minutes after class start for people they know have signed up. No one minds! Our schedules are tight, and we’re all trying our best to prioritize wellness.

Would I have preferred to get there 10 mins before? Of course, but life happens. While it’s important to keep things on time, they should be even more understanding in their morning classes - not less so.

Had a good experience doing yoga here, but a word to the wise: be sure that if you need to cancel, you do it yourself and triple check that it's done. I verbally cancelled, and it slipped through the cracks, and I'm not super vigilant about my credit card bill. Turns out, I was charged $120 a month for a year after I had deleted the app and moved out of the city. When I explained the situation by email and on the phone, I was ignored for four days, and finally (after my fourth email) the manager simply said there was no record of my cancellation and stood behind their policy of, you know, screwing people with auto-renewal. They were like, we'll give you two months credit (knowing I had left the city). Between that and the late policy, this place is straight-up namastingy. Do your yoga somewhere that puts customers first and isn't just trying to squeeze every dollar (or in my case, $1,440) out of them.

I booked my first class on the app at 10:30 & was there at 10:30. I actually arrived at 10:20 but was talking on the phone at the door that was glass and cane in at 10:30 but the girl at the front desk said I cannot enter because I was late! Because they have a 2 mins prior to class policy that is not mentioned on the app she was extremely rude & refused to refund my money or even answer my questions! She was talking about something called class pass that I didn't know about & she assumed that I know I kept asking what is class pass & how is it different than drop ins & she just ignored me! & was impatient saying "I've already told you multiple times!" But I didn't understand because she was NOT CLEAR! So rude! She was definitely not friendly nor professional! If u have a 2 mins prior to class policy you should mention it on the app! & you definitely should be friendly to your clients!

Lost my money & precious time because of a policy I know nothing about because it's not mentioned on the app!!!!! Certainly not my fault & was treated badly by the front desk girl so instead of getting some zen I got rudeness & a bad experience! Will never step a foot in this place again!

I love Yoga Garden from the moment I step foot on the cute cobblestones leading to the cozy and welcoming studio. I love that Yoga Garden also displays work of local artists!

The staff is friendly, there are many classes to choose from, and I especially appreciate that there are early morning classes! Meredith Holt has cultivated quite the community through her classes, book club, and generally welcoming demeanor. I've also really enjoyed classes by Erin Carney, Dustin, Roy, and Christie.

I recommend Yoga Garden to many a friend and try to bring new people to share the joys of this wonderful studio!

I liked the first couple classes I attended but unfortunately I need to adjust my rating after I reached out to the studio multiple times asking for help resolving a billing issue and they never even responded. Please reconsider treating people this way.

I really appreciated the level of detail that Phillipe paid to my positions. They helped me reach a much more comfortable downward dog and I did a headstand for the first time!

I am not a beginner to yoga & I felt like I left the class with more strength & knowledge.

So disappointed in this class. From the minute we arrived I should have know this is not what I wanted. From the front desk staff that was to busy offering MindBody Tech support to another TEACHER instead of greeting the people taking classes to the cramped lobby, red flags were every where.

I came to Yoga Garden for the FREE YOGA CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS that their website supposedly offers:

"Each class is a safe and accessible introduction to yoga guiding you:
-how to practice to get the benefits of yoga
-proper alignment
-safety and etiquette in yoga classes"

I got 100% none of these in my class with Alyssa. She was WAY to fast so keeping up with her was next to impossible. She used tons of Yoga speech which is great if you know what that means but I don't.

The safety talk was next to none other than a basic "If you have back issues don't do this" but not explaining what else and NO adjustments offered unless it was REALLY obvious (like even to me who has never even done a yoga DVD) that you needed help.

The class was SO full that every time I tried to switch poses I had to worry about hitting the person next to me or adjust all the equipment I needed to try and follow along. It also meant that if Alyssa had WANTED to give us adjustments, it would have been way to hard with so many people and so little space.

Very disappointed as I really wanted to find a good beginner class. Guess I have to keep looking.

The diversity of classes, exelent / caring instructors, friendly staff, banging community, and super quant converted old Victorian studio make yoga garden a qualified gem! Whatever ya need Vin, Yin, Restorative, Alingment, Hatha, and more are on the schedule daily...

Do take one of Roy’s classes for a banging endurance Power session.

Do take Meredith’s morning classes for a delicious waking flow and sweet inner exploration with her deep mediations.

Do take Martines morning power for a hella challenging / invigorating power session.

Do take Dustin’s Alingment classes for a helarious yet challenging reset of your practice. I can’t stress enough how the align classes have improved my practice! Dustin’s kinda militant in the right way - I have never gotten as deep in shavasana then I do in these classes.

Do the Alexandra restorative on Monday as her French vibes / deep β€œnap” yoga is truly chicken soup for the soul!

Idk it’s all so good so come join us and do some yoga!

It was a very beautiful, inviting and clean space. The students and teachers were very helpful and kind. Alex the children's teacher trainer and Max were amazing. They both were very knowledgeable and passionate about the information they presented. Overall, a wonderful experience and I would gladly come there for classes if it were closer! Update: There was an additional comment I initially included that was only intended for management for feedback purposes. I am amazed in their quick and genuine response. I removed it prior to this review as I felt it only really pertained to me, but wanted it to be known how I feel the management truly cares and appreciates the experience of each practitioner that walks through the door. Thank you Yoga Garden for a wonderful and meaningful experience!

Full disclosure, I am a lead trainer for the teacher trainings and also teach a couple public classes here. So, I can safely say this place is wonderful inside and out. The teachers have freedom to teach what excites them, so students get the benefit of a wide range of class offerings, AND our student population forms a super community for a comfortable, friendly vibe. It’s a pleasure seeing all of the students that live in SF (we draw people from around the world to come train with us!) from our teacher trainings still in the studio almost daily for more classes and trainingsβ€”it’s big yoga family!

I did my 200hr yoga teacher training at YGSF. Yoga Garden San Francisco has a very high standard of quality when it comes to its teachers and classes. The 200hr Teacher Training consisted of a variety of different teachers bringing a broad view and very extensive area of expertise to the program. The knowledge they handed over to us couldn't be more thorough. Through it all the focus was always on safety of the students and correct alignment of the poses whilst keeping the motivation and inspiration at an all time high. On top of it all YGSF has one of the most welcoming and open communities I have experienced in the yoga world. This made the whole experience an unforgettable time that gifted me friends and teachers for a lifetime.

Yoga Garden SF offers a good mix of teachers and class styles in a beautiful space. But every time I practice here, I wish there were a warmer sense of community. As a brand new student, not a single teacher or staff member introduced themselves, asked me my name, or inquired about my yoga practice. I realize these factors may not be important to everyone, but if they matter to you, this may not be your spot.

This is my home studio. I have practiced yoga since before I was in high school, taken classes and workshops all over the world, was certified to teach 2004, and taught classes in southern California for a time. With all this in my background, I can honestly say I have never seen the community aspect so strong at a studio. Yes they have a great variety of styles, classes, and teachers as well, however, what I take home with me every class is connection with another fellow yogi. I have made some great friends here, and that is rare since most of yoga is a silent practice. The pre and postnatal program is awesome! You can meet doulas, midwives, and other great mom's willing to share their experience. I highly recommend giving Yoga Garden a try.

Best teachers in SF! I've studied all over the city, and there are teachers here who are extremely dedicated to their own practice and to the well being of others. They know good alignment and guide you into poses properly, warm you up correctly for more advanced poses, and offer solid modifications for people with more limited mobility/flexibility. I love that there are 3 studios and each one has gorgeous wood floors. The crowd is also excellent. Looking forward to deepening my practice and learning from the skilled teachers.

I have been going to Yoga Garden for about 8 years now. Since my first class at Yoga Garden, I have tried dozens of yoga studios in San Francisco but continue to return to Yoga Garden because of the quality of instruction each teacher brings to class. All of the teachers I have had over the years are dedicated, passionate, ensure their students are using proper form, and lead students to push themselves to their full potential. The space is warm, clean and inviting. I consistently recommend Yoga Garden to all of my friends.
