I really loved this class and the instructor, Jimmy! I had taken two classes at Renegade on back-to-back days before coming here, and I immediately noticed the difference in the quality of this gym. After Renegade’s classes, I felt drained and weak, but after Jimmy’s class, I left feeling energized and strong 💪 I also appreciated his attention and correction of my posture, especially because I didn't have that at the other gym. If you’re looking for a gym that’s more than just a place to work out, Foundry is it. From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel like you’re part of something special. This isn’t one of those big, impersonal gyms where you’re left to fend for yourself. Here, you get a warm welcome, real coaching, and a community that actually cares.
I can honestly say the founder, Jimmy, is one of the best coaches I’ve ever worked with. He has this rare combination of deep knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm that makes every class feel both challenging and fun. Jimmy has an incredible ability to break down movements in a way that makes sense, so even if you’re new to something, you feel supported instead of overwhelmed. He also knows when to push you just enough to get the best out of you.
The programming at Foundry is another huge win. It’s not random—everything has a purpose. I’ve noticed huge improvements in both my mobility and strength since joining, which is exactly what I was looking for. The workouts are well-balanced and varied, so you never get bored, and they’re adaptable for all fitness levels. Whether you’re brand new to strength training or you’ve been at it for years, you’ll find yourself progressing.
But honestly, what makes Foundry truly special is the community. Everyone here is supportive, motivating, and genuinely kind. There’s no ego or judgment—only encouragement. It’s the type of place where people cheer for you when you hit a PR, and they notice if you’ve been gone for a bit. That sense of accountability and connection makes it so much easier to stay consistent, and it makes coming to the gym something you actually look forward to.
I also love that the environment strikes the perfect balance between focused and fun. You’ll work hard, but you’ll laugh, too. People chat after class, share tips, and celebrate each other’s wins. That mix of camaraderie and productivity keeps the vibe upbeat and motivating.
The space itself is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything you need for functional, effective training. You can tell there’s a lot of thought put into making the environment comfortable and inspiring without being intimidating.
If you’ve been on the fence about joining a gym, or if you’ve struggled to find a place where you feel at home, I can’t recommend Foundry enough. It’s the rare kind of place where expert coaching, effective programming, and a truly welcoming community all come together. Foundry Review –
I joined the Foundry in October to gain strength through resistance training. Ten months in, I’m enormously impressed with the program and its founder, Jimmy Boulden. The results I’ve achieved have been remarkable – people have commented on the changes in my physique. I’m demonstrably stronger and more flexible, and I have improved aerobic endurance. The personal attention I’ve received has allowed me to progress at my own pace. And I’ve learned a great deal from observing J.B. instruct the many elite athletes working out beside me. All have been welcoming.
J. Boulden and Circuit Training: Jimmy is funny and easy going, but extremely professional. People show up on time and listen carefully to his instructions. He shares his impressive technical knowledge using simple, clear demonstrations. The modules are carefully designed to optimize deep core work, high-intensity endurance, and functional movement, and are updated every few weeks to build on progress towards short and long-term goals. It’s a fast-paced environment, but Jimmy manages to be everywhere all at once, providing guidance and support at each client’s level.
State of the Art Equipment: The Foundry is exceptionally well-resourced, and the ambiance is great. The weight machines are state of the art, and there are cardio machines of every kind (including rowers, ski ergs, treadmills, stair climber etc.). The workouts also include extensive use of free weights, sleds, giant tire with sledgehammers, and other interesting equipment. High ceilings, a great sound system, inspiring music and high-quality monitors enhance the experience.
Results Exceeding Expectations: Today I’m well on my way to deadlifting, bench pressing, and managing (an) unassisted pull-up using proper form. I’ve easily acquired a lot of technical information and learned a lot about myself. It’s been empowering and inspiring. And I’ve made friends along the way.
Show up regularly with a good attitude, do what J.B. asks as best you can, and prepare to be pleasantly shocked by the results.

I have been going to Foundry since August 2024. I met Jimmy back in 2021 in group fitness and I don’t know what the heck I was doing without his workouts! Jimmy has an incredible plethora of fitness/mobility knowledge and puts such thoughtfulness into every movement in every workout. Every four weeks is a different workout split so you’re never bored and constantly challenged/improving. I got my first chin up (now 3) after trying to get one for so many years. His programming truly works. Foundry has kept me so disciplined and motivated during my fitness journey, not the mention the amazing community he has cultivated filled with amazing, supportive, strong human beings! Thank you for being a part of my journey to a healthier lifestyle. 🤍

This is my FAVORITE way to start the day!! The workouts are NEVER boring. Muscle groups alternate by day to allow for rest. The music is EXCELLENT.
Jimmy is VERY knowledgeable about both strength AND body mechanics, and places a great emphasis on form and training Mobility. He has cultivated a great community of people and a truly awesome program.

Jimmy is the most thoughtful, dedicated coach I've ever trained with. I met him through a group fitness studio back in 2018 and was so happy to join him again when he opened The Foundry last year. I drive down from Del Mar every morning for the 6am class because it is WORTH IT. The workouts are challenging and intentional and I love the community of members he brings to the space. He is also well versed in recovery and mobility making his training all encompassing and well rounded. Thank you Jimmy for always pushing me and making sure I aim to be the best version of myself!

This place is fantastic. Incredible workouts from some of the best trainers out there. The trainers, Jimmy and Sam, are highly trained professionals ready to kick your butt - in a good way! Very motivating group workout setting and the thing that sets this this place above the rest is the specific instructions on each exercise. Body position, maximum muscle isolation, form correction when needed... oh and it's a lot of fun! Music pumping with a great group of people.

I've been going to this gym since the day Jimmy opened the doors, and I absolutely love it! Jimmy and Sam are fantastic trainers who make every workout challenging and fun. They focus on functional strength training, conditioning, and power movements, and they really listen to our goals to tailor the exercises just for us.
What makes this gym special is the amazing atmosphere. Jimmy and Sam keep things entertaining, and the workout crew is a blast to be around. Everyone is super supportive and fun, making each session something to look forward to.
Jimmy and Sam also specialize in helping with mobility, knowing that you need that to feel good and get stronger. They have all the equipment you could ever need, so you're never stuck doing the same exercises or using the same machines. This gym offers a unique experience compared to other group fitness and strength training classes.
I've actually been following Jimmy around from gym to gym because he's the absolute best trainer in San Diego. If you want a gym where you'll be pushed to your best while having a great time, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!
