Frank’s the best! I was totally new to strength training and he made me feel comfortable right away. He’s an incredible teacher — patient, fun, and really motivating. He genuinely cares and pays close attention to form so you stay safe and get the most out of every workout. The gym has a great, old-school vibe — super clean and down-to-earth. Frank is an exceptional trainer and person. He's the first personal trainer that I've had, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but he immediately made me feel like he cared about my wellness. He took the first session to understand my goals, assess my fitness, and plan out which routines would suit me best. Frank often has me performing exercises which focus on improving my resilience, that I've never done before, but he always takes the time to ensure that my form is correct and that I'm doing them safely. I am an 80 year old guy. For the past 10 years I have been experiencing increasing lower backpain. Four years ago, I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, disk bulges, spurs, and impingement of my spinal nerve. I was quite immobile and once I had to call for ride after I tried to walk my granddaughter home from school. My doctor said the only option left was back surgery. But because of the nature of my injuries, success was not assured. On a whim, my daughter set me up for a one-hour session with Frank. I was skeptical but had little to lose. Frank patiently listened to my symptoms and gently led me through some exercises he thought might help. What a Godsend! The improvement was almost instantaneous. Every morning for the past four years I do 25 crunches, 25 bicycles, 25 dead bugs, and 25 clam shells, and repeat these three more times. I make sure my lower back is pressed to the floor. Whenever I miss this routine, I pay the price of deep back pain until I do Frank’s exercises.
The one hour session with Frank was one of the best investments in my golden years. If I lived near Berkeley I would see him regularly. I give Frank five big stars. Give him a try; he’s terrific!

Frank is the best! I reached out to Frank about a year ago. I didn't have a lot of experience working out in gyms, but was interested in functional fitness training. I've dealt with lower back pain issues for years and Frank designed a workout program that has strengthened my core without stressing my back. Frank is great! I've known him for about a year now and have seen his workouts and training style. He truly gives a functional approach to fitness, focusing on the body as a whole. After a long drive today, I wasn’t going to make it to the gym in time for my intro, complimentary session — but Frank was so understanding and flexible; he moved things around and asked me if I could COMMIT to a later time. I am *SO* glad I went!
Frank asked me detailed questions about my goals, my health, my previous and current level of physical activity, and even asked me how I will know if I am getting the results I want — I LOVE a clear discussion of performance metrics and measuring success! 📈📈📊📊
Frank spent a fair amount of time assessing my current physical ability and form — and showed me tiny adjustments that really improved my form.
Then we cycled through a series of movements, working up quite a sweat, and then WOW Frank asked if I was warmed up yet! 😬😳 I was like, “you mean there is MORE?” 🥵
I often have a hard time with balance and coordination — opposing movements are like walking and chewing gum. I can’t do it! It’s why I still haven’t learned how to swim freestyle and have to stick to the backstroke.
Anyway, Frank was amazing in demonstrating each movement, watching my form, encouraging me, and reminding me where to adjust. Frank is so patient and SO nice, incredibly knowledgeable and professional, and his great energy is really motivating.
Then there were medicine balls, kettle bells, squats with both, and a weight sled which I have never used.
You can tell in this pic that I WERKED — I worked up such a sweat and felt/feel amazing! I’ll go back tomorrow morning and hopefully make a plan with Frank for after I leave Oakland.

I'm 48 years old and I ran into Frank on the street in Oakland. This guy is the man! I haven't felt better in my life for YEARS! Seriously, this guy gave just the right amount of training.
