Everytime I come to the gym it has been a great experience . I love the ass and Abs class on the weekends . I’m a beginner gym goer but I feel like the class caters to that with a huge push! I recommend taking some classes off Instagram to try it out .

Get bent it’s literally a melting pot of magnificent, they have great music amazing well informed staff and the patrons are also equally amazing. It’s very clean space it’s a very welcoming space. Send it in a heart of Oakland a city that I love., The environment brings a very well curated tone of excellence and they literally have participants from 17 to 77 as young as 12. They have a variety of classes and they definitely have a kick ass powerlifting squad would definitely recommend 75 out of 10 for sure.

I started training with Jason at Get Bent when I was cleared to work out postpartum. I had lifted consistently during my pregnancy, but getting back into things safely was my top priority, so I knew I wanted to connect with an experienced and focused personal trainer. Jason helped me get my strength back and then some. I get remote programming that is focused on my evolving goals, which now include toning and running in addition to powerlifting strength. Get Bent also has an eclectic and fun community that is welcoming to all ages and fitness levels. I was even able to bring my son for a few 1:1 PT sessions at the gym! I recently started taking some group classes there on Saturdays as well, and that’s a hella fun addition to my workout routine. All of their trainers and staff are friendly and experienced. I’d recommend Get Bent to anyone who wants to get stronger and also find that fitness community you’ve been looking for.

This review is long overdue, but I highly recommend working with Coach Pela!! I worked with her remotely while training for the NYC Half Marathon because I wanted to keep up with strength training in addition to running. She created a balanced plan that was challenging but never overwhelming, and she always made sure I felt supported despite the distance, via text and calls.

She’s very knowledgeable and could explain things in multiple ways until it clicked for me. She also sent me video demos to help refine my form, and we met up in Oakland a few times for 1:1 sessions, which were incredibly helpful for checking my technique and trying out new lifts.

With her support, I was able to finish the NYC Half injury-free! If you’re looking for a knowledgeable and supportive coach, I highly recommend Coach Pela!!

Oakland at its very very best…you have to visit for a workout and check it out to really understand how special it is. Truly next level expert personal training for a hugely diverse group (eg professional athletes, power lifting competitors, teenage sports teams, moms and kids, seniors who just wanna be stronger, etc etc). Plus great conditioning classes. And the community is so warm and welcoming and sweet — it’s unique to have that vibe while people are working out so seriously/intently. Imagine pushing yourself hard to get somewhere you never thought you could physically, but doing it with the right pacing and with support, laughs and encouragement all around. I’m not an athlete— just an older woman who wanted to get fit/strong. And my husband worked through his knee issues and is now able to sprint (!!). I’ve worked out at many gyms over my lifetime and have never encountered anything like Get Bent. It’s in a class of its own. Jason and Pela are the heart of it — they’ve created something that changes lives (including their nonprofit that supports Oakland kids weight training and conditioning). I hope to work out here forever!!

As a newbie to fitness due to timidness and limited access growing up, Get Bent has been at the core of my growth in this facet of life. I still recall finding their instagram page, equally amazed and intimidated by each post of high energy and Bay Area pride. I showed up bracing myself to encounter what is stereotypical of gyms, but instead was greeted with a smile by members and coaches alike. Fast forward 2 years, I'm still feeling timid yet still feeling very much welcome and supported.

The community, the energy, the expertise, and the guidance are second to none. If you find yourself wanting to get into lifting, but not knowing where to start, I really hope you give Get Bent a chance.

Get Bent has a welcoming, supportive atmosphere and fun quirky vibes. The coaches and community really make this gym. I love this place!

I have been lifting for a long time but I'm not getting any younger, I came here to return to fundamentals and iron out the kinks that were starting to make my joints complain with heavier weights.

Since coming here my gains have exploded like I'm a beginner again, and I am lifting with much better control and recovery. This place made an activity I've been dedicated to for a long time feel fun and fresh again.

The community is what really makes Get Bent great, though. This place is perfect whether you're a beginner wondering where to start or a long time lifter looking for an edge to break through a powerlifting plateau. Wonderful people, fun times, solid equipment and training. Come check it out!

Love this gym! They have calibrated kilogram plates, lots of racks, free weights, and a great atmosphere. The owners, Jason and Pela are very friendly and knowledgeable coaches. I’m not from this city, but I always drop in here when I visit Oakland.

i joined this gym because i wanted to start lifting heavy but didn’t want to risk injury doing it on my own, and i’m so glad i did! pela and jason, the gym owners, are really knowledgeable and skilled trainers who are passionate about what they do. they’re also really genuine, down to earth, beautiful, community-oriented people — i’ve never been a part of a gym that had the feeling of community like this one! people greet and support each other here, which is really sweet, and there are often local youth in the space too who jason and pela coach and set up scholarships for. the other coaches, katie and james, are really amazing also — they always encourage me during my lifts and make sure i do everything safely.

i’m currently doing the unlimited class membership. it’s a really good deal because you get access to high quality coaching during powerlifting club 3x a week at a much more affordable price than personal training. for those who are curious about powerlifting club, it’s a self-paced session — some combo of squats/deadlifts, bench press/strict press, with accessory exercises after — but the coaches are all present to support you however you need. if you’re a beginner like i was, don’t be intimidated cause they’ll spend plenty of 1:1 time with you walking you through everything and teaching you proper form until you feel comfortable navigating things on your own. again, it’s a really good deal to access that kind of personalized support at a membership price given they’re top tier coaches who coach for competitions and train pro athletes! they also offer personal training for ppl who want even more personalized support.

pela’s pumps on mondays and wednesdays are a fun circuit based strength and conditioning class where you go through a circuit in pairs. pela is super motivating and gets me to work out harder than i would on my own so i enjoy going between lifting days.

it’s only been a few months and i’m already so much stronger! if you’re thinking about joining, just do it :-)

I’ve been training with the owners, Jason and Peliala, since 2016, and I can confidently say they are phenomenal trainers. Their programming is highly effective—I’ve consistently made gains and improved my overall fitness while working with them.

In addition to having open gym hours, they offer classes every night, but my personal favorite is the Sunday morning mobility class. It’s a game-changer for recovery and flexibility! They also use a convenient app to track your workout program, which means no more lugging around notebooks—everything is streamlined and easy to follow.

What really sets Get Bent apart is the community. They host events throughout the year, creating an inclusive and supportive environment. No one is pushy, and they genuinely respect your boundaries, treating you as an individual, not just another membership number like many big gyms do.

I've been training at Get Bent on and off for 4 years, and I can't say enough good things about this gym. The classes are so much fun! Pela and Jason are both incredibly motivating with their clients and have helped me with my own strength goals but also overcoming personal barriers. After a bad bike accident they were there for me and helped regain my confidence to keep moving my body while knowing its limits. Get Bent is AWESOME!! Coach Jason and Coach Peliala are both some of the very best trainers that I've worked with. They are super knowledgeable about training, the human body, and nutrition. They can also adjust your training to support other supports/movement you are passionate about (for me, that's dance). They are welcoming and inclusive. And they are fun, compassionate humans. They have classes as well as personal training. They host community events as well as powerlifting events. And during the pandemic they've been doing even more work to support local black youth athletes. It's dope.
