I went here for years, since membership used to cost about $40 and there was different owner. I canceled my membership once and during that time and it was fast and easy. Back then you can cancel it at the front desk. I recently moved out of Davis and for the past 3 months I've been trying to cancel my membership by filing out a form and emailing it to management, as stated on their website, but they still keep charging me. I don't think it's worth $65 and the only reason I kept coming here was because it was the only gym in town. If you're thinking getting a membership, don't, save your money and wait for the new Planet Fitness to open. It will be located next to Safeway on Cowell and for as low as $15 a month.

It's a decent enough place, staff is nice and all that, but they're really pretty expensive for the equipment being in pretty bad condition. It's still technically functional most of the time, but it's a bit annoying to be working with the gimmicks of a lot of the equipment.

20% Broken Machines?? say What? probably 1/5th or more of the machines are broken: missing cables, missing straps to hold your feet to pedals, software that is not working, etc. The owners ACTIVELY inhibit users and staff from reporting broken machines, because there are NO numbers one the approx. 100 machines in the gym, which in are in approx. 7 rooms that don't have names. and that means it's REALLY hard to describe exactly which machine is broken!

After nearly 3 years of being a member the owner attempted to come after a 16 year old for a legal dispute instead of his guardians and then proceeded to permanently ban said 16 year old for no reason other then disliking his tone

I worked out here almost daily during the year I lived in Davis (August 2024-25). They have everything you need, including sauna and hot tub. I often participated in spin class two times a week. My only complaints are the dated, nonfunctional equipment in the treadmill room collecting dust and taking up space. It’s clear those machines have been there a very long time (they look like they’re from the 90s) and aren’t going to be repaired. Instead of taking up valuable real estate (especially during busy hours) and being an eyesore, these machines should be removed. Also, its inconvenient that a class was added to the schedule before the 9 am spin class. This always resulted in attendees not being able to even access the gym to set up our bikes until after 9 am. Classes should be staggered by at least 15 minutes to avoid this. The male employees are nice and helpful, but I did get an unnecessary attitude from one of the young female employees a few times.
Overall, this gym got the job done for me the year I lived in the area, and the student discount was a plus. It’s inevitable that the building be upgraded, but that’s irrelevant to me as I now live in downtown San Diego.

My son John has level 3, nonverbal autism. For a long time, he was welcomed in the gym’s daycare while I worked out — until he had a minor issue with the manager’s daughter. Despite having no problems for nearly two years, they expelled him after this isolated incident. It’s clear the decision was personal and discriminatory, especially since he has autism and they had previously accepted him without issue.
That alone would have been enough for me to cancel my membership — but they continued to charge me after the cancellation. I was billed twice. One charge was even processed after my plan had already been canceled.
This gym is not just discriminatory toward autistic individuals — I’ve also witnessed signs of prejudice toward people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Hispanic, Asian, and European communities. They only seem to welcome a very specific type of clientele.
Beyond the discrimination, the gym is dirty, poorly maintained, and constantly has broken equipment. The water fountains don’t even have cold water.
I do not recommend this gym to anyone — especially families with children who are neurodivergent or from diverse backgrounds. Avoid this place.

I've been a member here for the past few years and love it! The staff is excellent and provide a friendly, safe and comfortable place to work out. Of course the equipment is not all new but everything works great. And, hey, 25 lbs is 25 lbs whether the dumbbell is new or old. Personally, I'm more interested in doing my set than admiring the chrome shine. The management is great and knows what's important, and the cost is quite reasonable. Best gym in town, hands down!

Dude, what happened to this place lol. I am absolutely appalled it costs $70 a month to work out here. But that's Davis. This gym would not last in Sacramento for $20 a month. Equipment is dated, bad lay out, always dusty, grimy, unsanitary. I joined and I am huge on the sauna for health benefits. Its trash. It smells. Horribly upkeep. Employees Are mid

It’s outrageous that a gym charging $65/month keeps its facilities in this condition. The machine in the photo speaks for itself: torn padding, built up grime, rusted parts and this is just one example. I’ve never seen cleaning staff, no matter the time I go. Equipment is visibly neglected and unhygienic. Where is the money going? Certainly not into maintenance or basic cleanliness. This level of carelessness is unacceptable.

The best gym in Davis. The pool can be a little cold and the gym can be a little warm but the staff is great and the facilities are good. Hours are a little short on weekends. If they would keep the gym (and pools) open longer on Saturdays and Sundays, and keep the lap pool at 79 or 80, as advertised, I would give it 5 stars. The pool is almost always at 78 (sometimes colder).

I've been going to get fit for like 2 years now and for as much as it is a nice community and a great amount of equipment, the quality of equipment isn't exactly the greatest but overall it's still very functional and it's very nitpicking.

We have been members on and off for the past several years and have returned from a long break since the pandemic. Seems like they updated the facility… has the same vibe but they took out the indoor soccer yard and replaced it with a vast amount of gym equipment which is great for the typical gym adult. Will miss seeing people playing adult soccer as well the kids program but it matches my personal needs better. The new setup seems clean and less hurried. I personally do not use the pool but it’s an amazing resource for people who do and I ever wanted to do a triathlon or work on my swimming this is where people of all types get training and instruction . There are quite a few group exercise options so I’ll sign up sometime. My only hang up is the $65 monthly fee. If there was a planet fitness or some such I would consider. Get Fit had a 12 month for 9 deal, but that is a lot of $ upfront and you can’t put it on hold if you have other life situations. There should be more deals/ incentives to drive that price down. I’ll keep my membership going during the hot months and I’m glad the owners kept the gym up! Nice staff…

This review is mostly about the manager of the facility which in turn tells me about how money and not the customer is important to the owners. On 3/5/25 I wrote an email as seen in the attached photo regarding membership. I know I was asking to deviate from the policy under unusual circumstances. The thing that bothered me , is not that I got charged per the policy , but that my request was not even acknowledged. It went into an empty void with no empathy or decency to at least say that you are sorry and unable to make exceptions for any reason. No response whatsoever. Very disappointing , angry and dissatisfied with this facility regarding the customer experience.

Great gym if you’re like me and don’t like crowds. Always good options and the equipment is more than enough for me. Staff is super nice and helpful. Pool is great and warm. My only issue is that a few parts really need a new coat of paint, especially the cardio room. Good value for money in my view.

staff is great when I go in the morning or at night.
Folks like Rylee, Rhys, Jake, Diana, Haley, Kylie and of course Milo are always friendly, courteous and ready to help do what they can when called upon. Even Rider is a happy security staffer.
I appreciate the regular testing of the water in the pool.
I look forward to someday getting back to the pervious longer hours. I have also noticed in the last year or so things getting cleaner. I am grateful for the functional pool and staff.

Building is a little rundown, but otherwise I found it to be a great gym. I was in town visiting from North Carolina and a one week membership was a very reasonable $35. Lots of equipment, a great Nautilus circuit. The building looks like an old community center, with a basketball court (with stadium seats and a scoreboard!) converted to a weight room. Interesting place and a fun workout.

I like this gym for straight functional training. Has most of the equipment you would need. Reason for not 5 stars is the location is not always kept completely clean and some of the equipment is older or sometimes out of order and requires repairs otherwise with those caveats in mind I would recommend.

Worst gym i’ve ever been to. The customer service is horrible and the lockerooms are disgusting. They do not take care of the facility at all. The steam room is putrid and honestly makes me gag. I’ve had multiple friends of mine have problems with the worker Milo and he is extremely disrespectful to certain people for no particular reason. Worst gym I’ve ever been to by a landslide. In all honesty everyone I talk to at the gym despises Milo and he needs to be fired as soon as possible. The other workers are nice its just Milo that has an attitude and isn’t helpful at all.

I was a member here for years at the old location pre-COVID and the main building after. Solid gym with just about everything you'd need. Very nice staff as well as patrons! Could use more squat racks and a better place to deadlift, but if you're even moderately resourceful and patient you'll be fine. I would personally ignore low reviews as I never had any of those issues and I think some people are just grouchy and expect white glove service at every mom and pop establishment.

Staff are difficult to work with (unless you are buying a membership), management is not customer focused, and one popular group class instructor uses shaming and fear throughout class - I got called out in front of the class multiple times for doing modifications because of pain or because I wasn't feeling my best.
Parking sucks. My friend was blocked in twice by someone who parked too close to them, and staff wouldn't help. They had to sit and wait for the other person to be done with the gym and leave.

Only gym in Davis with childcare and the childcare is superb. Locker room is disgusting and the steam room is severely neglected. If they’d just cleanup the facilities this gym would be 5 stars. But for whatever reason the management there just doesn’t put in the effort. Probably because the current owners inherited the gym instead of building it for themselves. It’s kind of like they just don’t care enough. Everyone complains about the mess and yet nothing ever gets done.

Good weight machine, barbell, dumbell, and cardio selection and good usage of space. Good cleanliness.
My problem is that people do not clean up after themselves, and the weights are always scattered around the room. I often have to stop my workout and hunt for different weights around the room.
DO NOT USE The leg press in the small room is slightly dangerous to use. The safeties catches are worn out!
Also, at the time of this review, there is only one working toilet in the men's locker room. The others have been out of order for who knows how long.

I visit Davis regularly, and usually drive out to Sacramento 24 hour fitness locations for a member work out. Those gyms are about 25 miles roundtrip from Davis. A quick Google search found that I have a gym 5 minutes away from me right here in Davis.
Parking lot is on a more normal neighborhood size therefore maybe a bit tight depending on the time of day. The gym is in a quite neighborhood.
There's an outdoor pool which I didn't go see. 35 dollars for a week membership with a free trial day...which is seemed reasonable. Inside you'll find a juxtapositioning of several very spacious rooms with a ton of machines, cable pulleys, Smith's machines, squat racks, benches, both incline and regular. There's a separate room for just machines, abs, legs, lower back. Also a heavy bag hangs in front of another back room. There is an indoor basketball court, almost hidden behind a solid door by the entrance foyer. There are open areas upstairs peppered with stair climbers and such. It's like an Easter egg hunt but the logistics tends to separate people into separate areas if another one is busy. I like how they've spread out the equipment so you can bench press, or leg press or do preacher bench curls in two different rooms. The equipment is placed fairly close to each other but there's always room to get around in front of them.
The several days I've been in, I was able to work out efficiently without waiting...They could use more 45 # plates. I didn't see any heavy hitters but it would take one guy benching 405# and the rest of the crowd will be scrambling for plates.
The locker room is clean, good sized lockers with combination code locks. There's a steam room and a small separate sauna in the men's change area and I assume same in the women's section. I loved the sauna. There's an aerobics room with just treadmills and such.
I feel pretty fortunate to have found this place. I look forward to just working out here during my visits next time.

SCHEDULE ONLINE IS NOT CORRECT. COUNTER PEOPLE ARE NOT INFORMED WHEN THE SCHEDULE CHANGES. Signed up to only use the therapy pool because it was recommended by the doctor that we would benefit from walking in a therapy pool. We were told that the schedule for the therapy pool was online and after checking, the counter girl that was signing us up said the only day after 4pm that was reserved for kids swim classes was Wed, and they used it until 6:30. Went for the first time and was told by the kids swim teacher that the therapy pool was reserved Monday thru Friday until 7pm. The counter people, all 3 that we talked to, told us to check the schedule online. Asked for a refund since the therapy pool was all we could physically use and we can’t wait until after 7 every night to use it. The counter girl said they were not told about the schedule changing. She said she issued the refund, but as yet it does not show up. I should have paid attention to the reviews!

This is the worst health club I have ever belonged to and I finally quit. The
management is terrible. They recently shut down the functional training pool which is

I used to go to this gym every day when leaving in Davis. Now I only pay for one week passes every time I’m visiting. I’m not sure if my standards have changed and I was blind before, or this place is really getting worse by the minute. It had always been old and kind of falling apart, but my last week there was just plain disgusting. The showers stunk, I found chewed gum on one of the treadmills water holder, the water fountains were not working, the free weights area was dirty, the machines were not working properly. No paper towels. No soap. Just bad smells and bad experiences.

Watch out for any billing issues!! You know how you’re card maybe gets compromised or expires, and you try to switch things over but some things get missed. Well this gym will let you check in day after day, and the front desk person doesn’t tell you that your membership payment was declined. Then the billing doesn’t say anything... suddenly you have SURPRISE!!! 3 months worth of late fees and unpaid membership. 🤨
Also don’t ask the front desk what the classes on the schedule mean, they don’t know and there’s no description on the website. They recommend you “go to the class to find out”
The pool is great, best one in Davis. Also there’s a second therapy pool that’s really nice... hence the reason I still go here.
The billing department could stand to notify a member about payment issues. It’s really not a hard thing to do, considering they have my email.

I belonged to DAC for years and then GFD bought them out, promising to improve the facility. It's certainly prettier, but apparently only on the surface, at least for the one reason I've been a member all these years: to swim laps, ritually 1/2 mile 4-5 days a week.
Three international agencies have agreed on the ideal temperatures for a pool used for different swimming (not exercise) purposes: water temperature for competitive swimming between 77° to 82° F (25°-28°C), and 81°F (27°C) for synchronized swimming. Warmer water is less dense and therefore less friction as a swimmer's body moves through it. Standard water temperatures ensure that all performances are on a level state of conditions.
The lap pool has been at 73 degrees or below intermittently for a few weeks now, as the heater breaks down. Yes, I do "dislike it." If the supposedly improved GFDS can't accommodate my only purpose in being a member, I see no value at all in remaining with them. This is too bad, since I am used to the place, like the location away from the center of town, and know some of my fellow swimmers (not that they've been "breaking the ice" lately, either).
It would be useful if GFDS would at least post daily pool temperatures on their website so that one needn't phone in to get that information -- and perhaps encounter someone who didn't know, as I did yesterday. My giving them two stars today was generous!

The physical therapy pool is great and the new owners are fixing up the club, piece by piece. Good job!
