If you’re looking for a place to pay way too much just to get yelled at by a guy who couldn’t even win a backyard brawl, Goatshack is perfect. The ‘training’ feels like a bad TikTok tutorial, and the vibe is less boxing gym, more middle school PE class. Honestly, shadowboxing in my living room felt more productive — and the coach in my mirror actually has a better record.

Honestly one of the worst gyms I’ve stepped foot in. It’s overpriced for what you get, and the so-called ‘coaching’ is basically just a guy barking orders who clearly couldn’t make it in the ring himself. Half the time the equipment is either dirty or being hogged, and the vibe is more about ego than training. If you actually want to learn boxing, look anywhere else but here.

Goatshack Boxing is a joke. Sure, it's got the flashy lights and modern equipment, but that's just a distraction from how awful the place actually is. The classes are chaotic, overcrowded, and completely unorganized. Trainers barely pay attention, and when they do, it's half-hearted like they're just killing time. The head coach? Let's be real -- he's only a "coach" because he couldn't cut it as a pro. Instead of building up fighters, he's busy flexing his ego and pretending he's teaching. If you want real boxing knowledge, this is the last place you'll find it. On top of that, the staff acts annoyed when you ask simple questions, and the prices are ridiculous for the garbage level of service you get. Goatshack is all shine and no substance. If you want to actually learn boxing, stay far, far away.

Goat Shack Boxing is the real deal, a gym so legit it’ll make you rethink your life choices while you’re gasping for air. The place is cleaner than my grandma’s kitchen, with shiny mats, pristine bags, and a vibe that screams “we’re here to punch, not posture.” No grimy gym socks or roach-infested corners here, just pure, ego-smashing goodness.
Coach Jo, Absolute legend. This guy’s the anti-douche of boxing coaches. Unlike the typical MMA meathead with an ego bigger than their biceps, Jo’s humble, hilarious, and somehow makes you feel like a champ even when you’re eating canvas. He’s got this knack for breaking down techniques so even a knucklehead like me, who thought street brawls made me Mike Tyson, can actually learn something.
Speaking of learning, let me paint you a picture: I swaggered in, chest puffed, thinking my street fight resume (grown men, dive bars, bad decisions) made me a tough guy. Then, a teenage kid probably still sipping Capri Suns, stepped into the ring with me. This pint-sized prodigy, moving like a caffeinated ninja, checked my gut and my ego in about 30 seconds flat. And get this he was going easy! I was dodging like I was in a Matrix audition, but this kid was landing jabs like he had a personal vendetta. Humbling? Oh, you bet. Hilarious in hindsight? Absolutely.
Jo and the crew at Goat Shack create a vibe where everyone, newbies, wannabe tough guys like me, and actual skilled fighters, can train without the bro-tastic bravado you find elsewhere. The gear’s top-notch, the ring’s always ready, and the classes are a perfect mix of “I’m gonna die” cardio and “oh, so that’s how you throw a hook” technique. If you want to get fit, learn to box, and laugh at your own delusions of grandeur, Goat Shack Boxing is your spot. Sign up, but maybe leave your ego in the parking lot, it’s safer that way.

Best boxing gym and best of ANY gym in SLO county! Dedicated coaches; coach Jo knows his stuff and genuinely cares about his individual clients and their progress. Coach JJ is always encouraging and helping clients improve on their abilities. The attention given to clients is AAA+ Good energy, great camaraderie, and a great place to get motivated no matter how young or old. The gym offers classes for under 10year olds, and provides individualized training for those 10+ to a hundred 😄

Does the coach have CTE? I noticed he just wanders around sometimes looking into space and half of what he says makes zero sense. That’s why I decided not to sign up. The gym looks nice though I guess.

I live in SLO but the drive to Paso Robles is more than worth it. If you truly want to learn how to box whether your doing it for your health, fitness or looking to compete this is by far the best gym and Coach Adriel is one of the best coaches I've ever had the privilege to learn from. He is a legit fighter just ask him for his record. The equipment available is worth it for the price as well.
