Not bad but not perfect. They have a lot of different equipment packed into the area. The facility is clean and the staff is helpful. There is nothing that makes this place any better than another gym.

I've been going here for years and years. My experience has always been great. The people are cool, the employees are cool and the personal trainers are cool. People re-rack their weights and treat the equipment with respect. It seems like they're always doing some kind of upgrades to the gym. Great for serious people trying to get serious results.

I have been a gym member since moving to the area about 2.5 years ago now. Staff is friendly, gym is well maintained. It can get a little packed if you go at peak times but generally there are machines / cages / benches available when you need them. Most people I observe do re-rack their weights and the gym floor and men's locker room is kept pretty clean. On one occasions, one of the staff had recognized when i was gone out of town town for 3 weeks and he asked how i had been and where I went. I like this gym and tried out a few other gyms on a few of my buddy's gyms as a guest member and Gold's was clearly the choice for me.

I've been a member for over 18 years and in most of those years, i have never had any issues with Staff until i started training at the Golds Gym off of Bernal. There were three incidents in which one of them included the owner himself "Jerry McCall". .Below are the three detailed incidents that occurred that ultimately led to my termination as a member.

Incident 1: I complained to the now manager Daniel about a car parked in motorcycle parking. Of course I rode my bike and had no where to park other than the side street. Daniel who was a regular employee at the time and another staff member who no longer works there asked me after i complained, What did you want us to do about it. Laughed and pretty much ignored my complaint. In the letter i received from Jerry, it states that I intimidated his staff during this process. I proceeded to write corporate of this incident and did not hear back. Now Daniel is a manager at this gym and clearly lacks customer service skills a manager should have.

Incident 2: When i train at Golds i ALWAYS re-rack my weights out of respect for the other members as well as the staff. As I was training, i was approached by a tall white male who says in an INTIMIDATING manner; you need to make sure you put those weights away. I had my earphones on at the time and therefore i couldn't hear him. He tapped my shoulder and in the same tone, told me i need to put those weights away. I responded and said, i'm not even finished with my workout. I also mentioned that in my 18 plus years as a member, i ALWAYS re-rack my weights. He responded to me and asked "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM". I responded back and said, honestly I don't care who you are. You're rude and interupting my workout. He responded and said, I'm Jerry the owner of this gym. In response to that, i said great. Well owner of this gym, you might want to work on your approach when dealing with your loyal customers. After that we went on our way. In the same letter, Jerry mentions how i intimated him when this situation occured.

To Add: I asked Daniel who is now the manager, who is this guy Jerry. Daniel responds, by telling me, he's a jerk huh? I said yes, and explained my incident to Daniel.

Incident 3: After the above incidents, it appears Golds heard me and now staffing is great. Daniel and the others, would say good morning, afternoon or evening and have a good day every time i came in and out. But not until they brought in John. John picks and chooses who he says bye and hi to. Each time i check in he makes it a point to stop what he's doing to look over my account. I get that it's his job, but i noticed that he only did that to me and a few other gentlemen. John clearly needs to work on his customer service skills and should not work a job that requires such. So I complained to John directly about how he needs to work on these skills instead of filing yet another complaint to corporate. For some reason John beat me to the punch and complained to the owner himself. Stating that i walked in, questioned him about scanning in and told him I don't like you. This is what it says in the so called termination letter.

To summarize: Golds Gym Bernal terminates its members before the member himself or herself can file any sort of complaints. Normally i would move on and find another gym, but Golds has been a second home to me for 18 plus years. I received a termination letter as a result of my complaining due to lack of customer service.

Next Steps: I am going to file this complaint to corporate and move on to another Gym.

Good gym. Equipment is well maintained, restrooms and lockerrooms are clean. Joining this gym was very simple. Leo at the front desk was polite, helpful and answered all my questions. I definitely recommend this gym for anyone who wants to go to a serious gym.

It bothers me when I look up and see insulation hanging from the ceiling. Health hazard. The rest is great. I rate 1 for being to lazy to fix ceiling and 4 if they would fix it. I don't like to breath fiberglass
