I hate to leave a bad review because i was slowly starting to like this gym. However, before i signed up for the month to month contract, i asked if there would be a maintenance fee (I didn’t expect there to be one because it doesn’t make sense to pay a yearly maintenance fee on a month to month membership; what if im only there two or three months?) well i did some research, called other gyms, and
It turns out that most gyms do charge a maintenance fee even in month to month contract. That is fine. The problem was that when and before i got my membership , i asked if there would be a maintenance fee. The employees that where there responded, “i dont know.” Then, when i proceed with the contract, i was given an i pad to answer around 10 simple questions. Not one single question had anything to do with a maintenance fee. 4 months later, i get a maintenance fee charge, and i decided to ask if i could speak to a manager. I was given a paper with an email and it said to allow 7 -10 days for a response. Well i didn’t want to wait 7-10 days, so I felt i needed to be a little straight forward in my first message, so It could all be taken care of as soon as possible. Thankfully, someone did responded quickly. However, i felt that the person i was emailing with, didn’t want to take responsibility on the mistake that was made. The person i was emailing with then proceeds to send me a contract in where it says that supposedly i signed or agreed that i was going to pay a maintenance fee. I told her I was never given that contract to sign when i started my membership. I told her i was only given an ipad with 10 simple questions. Her response was that i was going to have to pay for it anyways, “that is the bottom line”

For me it was not about the money. the problem was that i dont like surprises. It was a mistake on their end, and if they cant own up to it, i dont want to have a membership with a company that doesn’t take responsibility in their mistakes . It was also the fact that she had the “im not wrong attitude.“
It wasn’t until I responded that, if they tried charging me that yearly maintenance fee, i was going to go to small claims. The lady i was emailing with immediately decided to cancel my membership with no cancellation fee even though i had a few days left for the last month i paid/She also waived my 30 day notice. Thank you.

Doesn’t have a hot tub or pool! I’m an active swimmer and traveling on the road . No hot water in the showers only lukewarm water . No ac on in the women’s locker room . Where the women’s steam room is gets extremely stuffy in there. No trash cans in the women’s locker room area only the bathroom area , which I find concerning. Would’ve been nice to soak in the tub after my long roadtrip .

terrible establishment drive elsewhere or check out body-zone way better gym. if you sign a contract make sure you know it will be virtually impossible to cancel. if you try and cancel early they will charge you 300$ and if you wait until your contract ends they will charge you an extra month "its takes 2 weeks to cancel" manager is never available. management is trash and they shut the lights off 10-15 prior to closing at times. cleaning ladies will be inside the locker rooms while people are changing. just all around terrible gym. go to bodyzone or todal but stay far far away from this scam of a "gym"

SCAMMERS!!! Stopped going to their Watsonville branch due to their service and equipment, to found out 5 months later a collector called me saying i owed them $250 for 5 months not paying and going to their gym, i signed up for a monthly membership! No calls, no emails regarding this that they will be charging me even i don’t go to their gym anymore,

a month after not going to their gym they should of call or emailed me that i need to cancel my “monthly” (not a contract) membership or else they will continually charge me and they really waited for 5 months before letting me know so they can charge $250!!!

A friendly advise not to go to their gym or make sure if you sign in for a monthly membership, ready their “terms and conditions” and when you realized i was right MAKE SURE TO TALK TO THEM IN PERSON TO CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP or else you will be charge without knowing and 5 months later collectors will call you.

Disclaimer: I travel for a living and I use Golds Gym all over so I know the protocol for when coming from out of town and Before even entering I was treated quite rudely.

As a golds member I’m usually greeted with a hello and or good (morning/afternoon/evening.)

Not a deep aggressive or rated attitude saying to me, “your from Texas.”

Not a hello or good morning like he gave others who came in before or after me. I am not deaf I can hear very well.

He unfortunately did not have a name tag on just a black team member shirt so no real way to identify but give a description so if Golds wants to actually get this resolved they can reach out directly to me and we can work this out. I clearly parked in the first handicap spot which allows the desk person know I’m disabled since my plates have a wheelchair on them.

Then immediate stated it’s private and demanded my id still not a hello or good morning. I definitely understand coming from a different state there is a process with Golds again been to plenty of other Golds not in Texas, it’s all about the treatment. Then asking me my name and having made a copy of my id and tag without even letting me know he was gonna do it just demanding I give him things. Then he went as far as questioning my name and what I want to be called. No conversation as to what he is doing or why. In fact it made me feel very unwelcomed that I’m unwanted in this Golds Gym. I come to workout just like everyone else not to be treated rudely at 4:00 am pst.

It’s sad that someone gets the most unwelcoming welcome at 4 AM.

The equipment looks practically brand new, and has minimal wear and tear.

The restrooms are hidden and can be hard to find if your not given a tour or at least explained where things are.

Heads up bathrooms are to the right of the front desk pass the stairs to the left.

To use cardio equipment you need to go upstairs.

There is an outdoor workout area as well more for cross fit training.

The bathroom for it just being opened was a mess. I’m not sure if it was cleaned the night before or not but I didn’t take a shower due to the locker room situation I’ll be heading back to a Planet Fitness for that, since I know there’s is clean.

When I was working out downstairs the front desk guy kept starring at me and I just felt so uncomfortable.

My experience was not one I would have ever expected due to the Golds Gym standard yet to my surprise I had the complete opposite experience.

This is why the two stars is based on the experience overall.

Golds gym is the worst gym in Watsonville,
Martina the owner is pathetic no customer service what’s so ever.
Javier at the front desk thinks he owns the world by been a manager.
Golds gym in dirty the cleaning company cleans the bathroom over night. They’d don’t clean the bathrooms, showers or the sauna during the day.
City of Watsonville needs to pay them a visit so they can see how unsanitary the place is.

Not a bad gym good equipment the thing that makes me say 4 stars is because they don’t enforce the whole put weights back. I have different memberships to other gyms as bodyzone no one leave weights anywhere or unorganized as this place and I’d say it’s because if they notice you doing that they terminate your membership. This place has weights scattered everywhere. That’s more of an owners problem to tell the workers as I am a general manager myself and I don’t have things scattered around.

The people in the front are really cool and accommodating. The gym is terrible. Super compressed you can literally smell the person next to you all the machines are inches from each other.
The sauna is disgusting everyone goes in there with their smelly shoes after their workout. Don't recommend this gym

As a member of almost 2 years, I wish I had positive things to say about this gym.
To start off, the gym’s equipment is always damaged or broken. It takes them weeks-months to replace/fix (if this even happens). The pictures I attached were taken recently during the same week.
Members get charged a ridiculous $50 equipment fee per year on top of the membership price which does not makes sense since equipment is aways out of service, damaged, or not safe to use.. Where is our equipment fee going?
Two machine seats were broken, there is a leak from the roof (for months), and certain machines are not safe to use.
Since COVID, the gym has made changes to the gym and closed off areas so that everything is closer together vs prioritizing members safety and ensuring there is proper social distancing.
I’ve had an experience where extra charges where made to my account and it was hard to get a hold of someone. When I did, it was one of the managers, they had a rude attitude and were wanting me to be okay with their mistake instead of apologizing for wasting my time.

I am so thankful my contract will soon be over and can look for a different gym.
I do not recommend it and will be encouraging friends and family to not sign up this.

This gym(not the employees but rather the owners of the gym/ones who profit from the gym) has shown to be inconsiderate of people's financial situations during the Covid -19/coronavirus. I noticed that they would charge for renovation fees, yet all they had to offer was an enclosed fence with little equipment outside. I have tried to cancel my membership multiple times but was denied because I do not live 25 miles away. I live in Santa Cruz now and need 11 more miles to qualify. On top of that, there is a $100.00 Fee for canceling. For that reason, I would not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Everything is outside. Kind of defeats the purpose of dealing with covid if we are all grouped up outside. Might as well be able to be 6ft a part inside with good ventilation in my opinion. Either way, depending on when you go, be prepared to get a cold from being wet and freezing.

Gold’s gym has truly disappointed me. The owners really don’t care about the safety of their members. I wanted to cancel my membership because I didn’t feel safe or comfortable being there anymore and one of the OWNERS said my reason wasn’t a valid reason for them to cancel my membership! How is that not a valid reason!? If someone doesn’t feel safe or comfortable being in a place then they shouldn’t be forced to keep going there! No One should ever consider signing a contract with Gold’s Gym in Watsonville. Not only do they charge random “improvement” fees when nothing has been improved, they also do not take member health and safety seriously. They assured me they were requiring masks, enforcing physical distancing, and cleaning equipment diligently to prevent potential spread of Covid. When I went to the gym the place was packed, people were not social distancing, and no one had a mask on. I have a pregnant wife and cannot risk bringing anything home. I explained to the gym, with the current state of the gym I can’t use the facilities. They told me I was under contract and there was nothing they could do. They offered to put my membership on hold for three months for $30, then charged me my monthly membership fee and a $45 improvement fee. After that I asked why I was charged after putting my account on hold and no one has responded to my calls or emails in weeks. They are basically using a pandemic to steal membership fees and recoup losses by charging “improvement” fees. I signed a contract with the understanding i’d be able to use the facilities. Due to the unsafe practices at the gym I cannot use the facility safely. As I have looked around and read recent reviews I see this is happening to a number of people. Safe yourself money and headache. Don’t ever go to this gym.

We camped at New Brighton Beach for Labor Day weekend, but I still needed to get my workouts in. Golds In Watsonville has everything you need to get a great workout regardless of what you're doing. The facility is clean, the staff was friendly and the locals were focused on getting their workout on - so there weren't people camping on one station forever.

Most of the time, the equipment I need is available. They could use atleast one more set of DB weights, and maybe increments of 2,5LB. As I workout with my lady, and I see other ladies that might like that idea as well. Some members don't put their weights back, which is so annoying. Management has been told, and given ideas, but to no avail.

I liked until i was physically attacked by an instructor/manager there! The owner hide video footage of the attack from staff and refused to speak with me in person only cause of her close friendship with the attacker! Come to find out though all there equipment is old and out dated and the showers are always needing repair as well! So glad to be at a better gym with new equipment! The best instructors are at 24 fitness and inshape anyways they all are skilled and are a much friendlier group then some of the instructors at golds!!!!! I suggest the drive to sc so worth it!!!

I love my gym especially the aqua classes. Corine the instructor is challenging and yet knows exactly what we need and what we can do. She is fun and has built a community of aqua warriors! Let's be real, I am a fat person, my gym clothes don't match my shoes and I don't wear cute visors. I huff and puff and I work hard in the water. I wear a bathing suit with shorts and I feel COMFORTABLE at this gym and in this class. I work hard and I am really strong because of my work out. Check it out.
