I originally joined GVAC to escape the chaos of other gyms like Gold’s overcrowded, loud, and barely breathable. At first, GVAC seemed like the clean, more mature option… but then reality (and mold) started to set in.

Let’s talk about Jeff, who decided to play drill sergeant one morning while I was on a business call, checking in at the front. I'm a business owner when my phone rings, sometimes it matters. Instead of basic courtesy, Jeff came at me like I was trespassing on his ancestral land. The tone was way out of line — yelling at me as if I were a slave lol, not a paying member. He did later apologize (which I respect), but that moment stuck with me, and I’ve been intentionally late since. 🙃

My partner was pregnant when we signed up, and despite that and a literal childbirth she was never offered to freeze her membership. No empathy, no policy flexibility. The kind of treatment that makes you wonder if they actually care about their members or just want your auto-debit.

And then… my e-bike incident. I forgot lock, left my bike up in front of the gym, right by the entrance. Staff told me it was “fine,” and that “nothing ever happens here.” Guess what?
It got stolen. And there are no cameras out front a $30 solution from Best Buy, but still not installed over a month later. If you’re going to charge premium prices, how about protecting your members’ property?

Also, the bathroom ceiling mold has been putting in more hours than Jeff and David. At this point, the mold should be paying a monthly membership. It’s disrespectful to clients and probably a health code issue.

In summary:
Great gym potential, but poor follow-through.
Inconsistent leadership tone and communication (Jeff, mean what you say).
Safety and hygiene both need serious upgrades.
You’re charging for luxury but delivering neglect.

I like this gym, but until words turn into action, and members are treated with respect before problems arise it’s not living up to the brand it’s trying to be.

I am a recent member of Goleta Valley Athletic Club, having moved here from Southern California. I love this place. Staff is so helpful and welcoming and it has everything you need in the way of equipment to fill your particular needs. There is a pool and general classes and personal training at a reasonable rate. The gym provides towels and sanitizers and is remarkably clean. I highly recommend this gym.

Really enjoy my workouts. It's very spread out so I feel like I can always find a place in the space for relative privacy if I'm feeling self-conscious. The staff are all friendly and approachable, and I've been able to learn how to use the equipment and feel like I'm making progress and getting stronger.

I’ve been a member for a few years now and really enjoy the club. When I go early in the morning it is never packed, and it’s easy to get in my gym time before work. I especially like using the steam room after my workout. Jeff and his team are super helpful if I point out something needs attention. Definitely enjoy my experience at GVAC.

Long-time member since 2018 going multiple times per week and there's multiple reasons for my loyalty: The staff are fantastic, always available, always supportive, and respond immediately to any questions or concerns I have; the facilities are clean and well-maintained and above and beyond what I'm used to as an industry norm; the pool is the cleanest I've experienced anywhere and what drew me to this gym specifically and if I do have to wait for a lane, the other patrons are a pleasure to chat with and never grumpy. I love GVAC!

Nice place to workout. I’ve been coming here on and off from 2014-2019 when I visited while in the army and consistently since 2019 since moving back to Santa Barbara. Staff is friendly, never super busy, members are also respectful. I have on multiple occasions brought guests to try out the place and Jeff has provided a some free passes to them with minimal sign up paperwork which I’m super thankful for. Selection of equipment is great and the squat rack to member attendance ratio is superb, almost always one available. I’ve been to golds and f19 but I just can’t do a commercial gym with the crowds so this is my top choice!

I’ve been a member since 2009. This is the best gym in the area. Whether you’re a swimmer, a cardio bunny, or a serious weight lifter, GVAC has all the amenities for any gym goer. Equipment is well maintained and hardly ever feels packed even during peak hours due to its size and floor plan. Love this gym

I’ve been a member of GVAC for several years and have always had great experiences. I use the cardio equipment, weight machines, and free weights, and there never seems to be much of a wait for any of them. The pool and hot tub are great perks too. I highly recommend.

I've been a member since November and it's been amazing. I can wear suits that I hadn't worn in like 10 years. The staff is very friendly and the other members are fantastic. It really does become a community of friends as you see the same people during the same times you go. I will say another giant benefit is I"m doing a very structured workout plan and have a time constrained ability to workout. Because it's not packed like Golds or Planet Fitness can be, the equipment you need is available or very nearly is and you can knock off your workout smoothly. I also use the pool once a week and it's very nice. No need to go to Los Banos or sign up for UCSB masters. GVAC has everything in one place plus great staff and members. Highly recommended.

This is a great Club, I highly recommend it, the owner Jarrod is a great guy and his team is top notch. They really take an interest in their clients and make sure the club is perfect for them.

Make sure to see their awesome lap pool, that thing must be Olympic! It's huge!

They tell you that they prefer to keep membership numbers low as a selling point, since they know people might say they don’t like crowded gyms. However, after joining I soon realized they have lower memberships because it’s old and grimy and def not worth the $$ to join when you can just go to a 24-hour fitness or the new Planet Fitness down the street for way cheaper and nicer amenities and equipment overall. Save your money!

I absolutely LOVE this gym!!
It has the most welcoming atmosphere.
Awesome variety of equipment.
Never crowded, which lends to uninterrupted choice of equipment.
Expansive layout.
Very up to date with pluses like t.v. set ups on cardio machines.
I very much appreciate how they tried to accommodate staying open as much as possible during Covid-19 shutdowns. Creatively bringing equipment outside, around the pool, to comply.
I felt this was important, because people need to work out during stressful times, as much as businesses need to stay open.
Very clean, and supplies personal use spray disinfectant and cloths.
I truly hope that this gyms ability to stay open during the partial shutdowns was a model for all other gyms, that gyms are indeed safe places to be while improving your health.
It's definitely an upscale gym, you get what you pay for.
If you use it frequently, it's absolutely worth it, in how much better you feel afterward, and also preventative in terms of future health care.
Absolute best stress reliever.

Best Gym in the area by far. Constantly adding new machines and improving upon the facility as a whole. Friendly and helpful staff who care about the well being of its members. Surprised still in business. I left when they opened up to local hotels giving a free day pass to guests. It no longer was a local gem and became focused on herding sheep through the door and hope some would stick around. After my locker was broken into I was done with them.

The gym is always clean and the staff is extremely friendly. I love coming here because it often is not too crowded, meaning you can get your workout in at any time of the day. There is also a pool and jacuzzi onsite which are great amenities to use. I've tried a few different classes here such as spin and the morning circuit class and they have always been a tough but rewarding workout.

Love this place.They have state of art machines and even when the gym is crowded you will still get someplace to do cardio as they have ample machines for everyone.They have courts for squash or badminton lovers and a swimming pool to refresh yourself.Sauna is wonderful too for muscle relaxation and showers are neat & clean as well. Their trainers are wonderful especially Lauren & Denver and this place jas got wonderful daily lessons for fitness enthusiasts.

I really like this gym. They have every machine imaginable. If its Cardio or core they will have the machine for you. I use the pool 3 times a week plus some of the machines. Everybody here is very helpful and friendly.
