I started training with this team over a month ago and let me tell you-- the program was so perfectly dialed into my needs, I was so shocked. Apart from wanting to be stronger, due to my work as a Chiropractor, I didn't want to be too sore to move as it would impact my day to day and I want to work on faster speed and reflexes. After a month, not only did I lose 5 pounds, I felt more energy, strength, and felt that I am moving faster. Bishop is the main trainer I work with and honestly sometimes, I call him my therapist as he is able to hold space for any of my stressors that are going on that day. The other session, I told him that I was feeling drained and tired and instead of offering me an energy drink, he immediately hyped me up and got me going! Love this place and this team!!

I can’t say enough good things about GrappleStrong. I came in with lingering issues from a lumbar discectomy at L4- L5, L5- S1 — my back used to feel stiff almost every morning, and I’d have to stretch just to walk straight. Since training here, my mobility has improved dramatically and my core feels much more stable.
Matt, the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely cares about his clients. He takes the time to understand your specific limitations and builds a plan that helps you get stronger without risking re-injury. You can tell he’s passionate about helping people move and feel better.
Now I wake up with little to no pain, and I feel more fluid both when rolling in jiu-jitsu and lifting weights. If you’ve dealt with back pain or are trying to rebuild strength safely, GrappleStrong is the place to go. Shout out to the amazing coaches as well Bishop and Brenden!

I am a long distance runner and joined this gym to build strength and become a faster, stronger long distance runner. This gym is truly different from others, the coaches genuinely care about each athlete and tailor workouts to individual needs.
When i joined i was recovering from a shoulder muscle tear, especial shout out to coach Bishop, he helped me modify exercises so i could safely strengthen my arm.. Thanks to him and the entire team, I’m feeling stronger and more confident in my training.
I highly recommend this gym to any serious athlete looking to improve their strength and performance.

I heard about GSP through a seminar they did at 10th Planet San Jose shortly after getting back into training BJJ. How to work out, when to work out, what to work out, GSP answered all those questions, and the results speak for themselves.
Injuries and soreness, if they occur at all, are now minimal to no factor on the mats. My body's stronger and still feels good at work the next day; even after hard rolls on the mats. And overall, I have a greater peace of mind during training because I'm putting in the work now to mitigate/avoid potential injuries in the future.
And if I do get got on the mats, GSP is super flexible. They've adapted my training as needed, as well as given me time to to rest and recover if I'm just not up for my next session. They're here to help *you*.
Come on down for a strategy meeting, see what they do, and take your training to the next level next level with some of the greatest trainers in the game.

Before I started training at Victory Submission, I honestly felt out of shape and unsure if I could keep up with something as intense as jiu-jitsu. I was nervous walking in that first day, but that changed fast. The coaches here are incredible at meeting you where you are, pushing you just enough to help you grow, and creating an environment that feels both challenging and supportive.
Now, I feel stronger, more confident, and way more capable than I ever thought I’d be. Every session leaves me feeling accomplished and excited to come back. What’s even better is how friendly and motivating everyone is, it truly feels like a community, not just a gym.
If you’ve been on the fence about starting, do it. Training here has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for both my body and my mindset. 💪

I always had strength problems when doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but after working out with Brendan and Matt, I notice myself getting much stronger. I am now able to be much more active both in and out of the gym. The staff are knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. The gym caters to people of all skill levels, and I'd recommend anyone to sign up and join.

I trained at Victory Strength & Submission for three months to get ready for Master Worlds, and it made a huge difference in how my body felt and moved. My main goal was to stay healthy and avoid injuries during camp, and that’s exactly what I got. What I liked most was that the workouts weren’t just your basic lifts, they were designed with grappling in mind. I could feel it translate directly into my jiu-jitsu: my rolls felt smoother, I moved better, and I didn’t deal with the usual aches or injuries from hard training. The coaches know what they’re doing, and the program kept my body strong, balanced, and ready for the mats

I’ve been training here for the last couple months and absolutely love it. The strength programs are tailored perfectly for the individual—everything feels purposeful for improving. The coaches are knowledgeable and encouraging, the facility is spotless, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I already feel stronger and more explosive on the mats. Highly recommend for any grappler or fitness practitioners looking to level up their strength and conditioning!

I stopped by to take a look at the place and the space looked amazing. The way it was setup made me want to participate.
Then the young people that they trained showed up and started working out and having fun. I was sold. I signed up my son and he worked with Bishop twice a week. Since working with coach Bishop he has been increasing in strength and speed but the most important thing was his confidence in himself. What more can I ask for.
I highly recommend this training space for all ages but specifically for teens and young adult but no other gym had programs specifically setup up for my son's age range. Thank you

I am currently focused on fundamentals and consistency and coming back from injury. I did extensive research on options and settled on VSS after learning more about Matt and his approach.
VSS is a place where I can trust the process and focus on showing up. It's also a great community where one can enjoy showing up for others and support and celebrate everyone's progress and success.
There is a lot attention to detail with a strong, evidence-based, best practices approach to all aspects of assessment, programming, progressions, etc. for strength and conditioning. Given where I am in terms of recovery and overall fitness, it gave me confidence knowing there are strong credentials, methods, and experience behind me. After some acclimation, I was able to start to push and make some noticeable fitness gains within a 12 week training block and really starting to feel a difference in the final weeks.
The sum is greater than the parts and all the little things make a big difference. I was surprised by how enabling the whole process is and what a difference the direct coaching made, making it easier to work harder.
Whether you're building a foundation or taking your game to the next level, I can attest to the impact and efficiency of the VSS approach.
Many thanks to Coaches Matt, Josh Brendan, and Bishop for the great sessions. Thanks especially to Matt for answering all my questions, Josh for the positive vibes, and Kelly for accommodating all my last minute requests!
Look forward to round two.

When I started this program, I was a brown belt suffering with from long-term pain and mobility limitations due to sciatica pain from an injury while training.
At the end of 12 weeks, I gained strength and mobility, my back and core pain went away, I lost almost 10 pounds and gained muscle.
My training experience has done a 180. I am not dead at the end of the class, I can comfortably execute the techniques being taught, my rolls are enjoyable, and I made progress in my training.
I recently received my black belt at the age of 40. A year ago I was not enjoying training due to the pain, lack of endurance, and questioned my future in the art. Now, I have new found meaning and the goal of continuing. I want to stay on the mats and this program made it possible. I am eternally grateful!

Really good workouts that slowly and methodically build you up to which ever action or exercise you'd like to reach. For example they built up my hamstrings, cardio, and glutes so that I could achieve a faster top speed for sprinting. Staff is extremely polite, considerate, and encouraging while also being funny and informative. Everyone knows what they're doing and will answer your questions. As an Athlete it is expensive BUT it is 100% worth the price to recompose, condition, and strengthen your body. Think of Victory Submission Strength as the doctors office. Awesome

Before I started training at Victory Submission, I had been dealing with various injuries, ranging from minor to moderate. I have been training jiu-jitsu for a few years, which has been my primary form of exercise. However, I had very little experience with weightlifting and only began incorporating it into my routine after a knee sprain.
Matt conducts thorough movement assessments to determine your starting point and tailor your program to help you reach your goals. The entire staff creates a fun and comfortable training environment, and the workout programs are specifically designed for each individual based on their abilities.
After just a few weeks of training at Victory Submission, I’ve noticed significant improvements in my daily life and on the mats. My frames feel much stronger, techniques have become easier to perform, and I recover faster after a long week of training.
If you’re a jiu-jitsu practitioner looking to elevate your game, reach out to Victory Submission.

I’ve been training with the coaches at VSS and the experience has been incredible! They’ve helped me improve my strength, cardio, and mobility, and I’ve made real progress toward my goals. Coach Brendan, in particular, has kept me focused and accountable throughout my training. Since starting at VSS, I’ve noticed a big improvement in my energy and stamina, and I’ve been able to spend more time on the mats. They’ve helped me accomplish things I didn’t even know I was capable of, while also helping me improve in areas I already did well in. The coaching here is next level, and I highly recommend VSS to anyone serious about improving their fitness and overall performance!

I joined VSS to help with specific strength and conditioning after tearing ligaments in my shoulder taking a bad fall. Over the past year I have gotten noticeably stronger, particularly in movements which rely on maintaining tension throughout the shoulders entire range of motion, which has helped me to feel confident in practicing techniques I would otherwise be hesitant to do.
The VSS team has been extremely receptive in accommodating my work schedule which helps to stay consistent in my training. Additionally, all the coaches are knowledgeable and perceptive; they add new exercises to help with particular movements I want to strengthen and push me to lift more when they see something is too easy.
The only downside is now I'm not sure if I'm hitting throws in randori because my technique is improving or because I'm getting strong too quickly.

I first got in contact with Mat from
Victory around Aug 2024 and had my video strategy session and was close to getting started on a program but unfortunately had to take a pause on all physical activity due to unforeseen medical circumstances. Mat continued to check in on me from time to time asking about my health and answering any questions I had to get me back on the mats without breaks and in a gym consistently.I started Jan 2025 after my health got better and was able to train again. Have been on a 1x a week plan, as well as training Atleast 3x a week on the mats. Have noticed a lot of improvement on and off the mats,I feel stronger with better mobility, joint and tendon health. I also feel like I am learning a lot about my body and things I can take home and do at home to help my mobility and just live a better life not always feeling tight and sore. I can’t recommend victory enough if you are thinking about it give it a shot you have nothing to lose, Mat and the whole victory team always come with great positive energy. It really feels like everyone cares about you and is definitely more than a gym it’s a family!

Matt and the team at VSS are top notch. They’ve built something really special here with folks who are both serious about their training and also know how to have a good time while becoming their best selves.
Super personalized programming that is way more than your typical lifting regimen. I’ve tried other programs with other coaching offerings, but the programming at VSS supports more athletic training, incorporating mobility, dynamic lifts, as well as conditioning, which I find way more beneficial and applicable to my sport of jiu jitsu. Folks at my BJJ gym have continuously mentioned I’ve become way stronger and I attribute this 100% to having joined VSS!
To add, I also have an occasional moving schedule and have made other requests to add certain things to my programming like more conditioning or days where I would like more mobility. The VSS team has been more than happy to accommodate and I’m super grateful - doesn’t get any more personal than that!
Thanks Matt and team. Glad to be with y’all 💪🏽💪🏽

Great gym and great staff!
My son plays hockey and he needed a strong strength program for a hockey players, not for a bodybuilder.
Matt and his staff put together a tailored program that significantly helped him during spring break. During regular season he keep going to the gym once a week to retain and improve the strengths and agility developed during spring training. Absolutely worth joining! Best hockey strength gym in all the bay area!

Before training at Victory, I was hitting a wall in my jiu jitsu. I train nogi 5–6 days a week, but my functional strength just wasn’t where it needed to be. I was lifting, but my sessions weren’t translating to better performance on the mats—I needed something more tailored.
Since joining Victory, I’ve seen a real difference in my overall game. My strength and mobility have improved in ways that directly impact my jiu jitsu. I feel stronger in scrambles, more stable when defending, and I can generate power in positions where I used to struggle. Beyond just feeling stronger, I’ve gained mobility and flexibility that help me move more efficiently and reduce my risk of injury.
Compared to other training programs I’ve tried, Victory is in a league of its own. The programming is personal, intentional, focused on real athletic development rather than just lifting weights for the sake of it. The trainers (Matt, Brenden, and Josh)
REALLY care. I’ve never had strength and conditioning coaches so invested in seeing me progress and achieve my goals. That personal involvement in my training, as well as the community at Victory, sets this place apart from the rest of the gyms I’ve trained at. It’s not just about getting stronger—it’s about getting better at what you actually do. The coaching is top-tier, with a clear understanding of how strength and movement apply to combat sports.
If you’re serious about improving your performance in jiu jitsu, stop wasting time on generic workouts and start training with Victory. You’ll feel the difference on the mats.

If you’re looking for knowledge and support in strength training, this is the place to be. And if you want to improve your submission skills on the mats, I can’t recommend this place enough!

Just four weeks later, my health and wellness has done a 180! The VSS team did a thorough baseline fitness assessment, customized a training program for me, and guided me through every exercise including breathwork, static warmups, dynamic warmups, power exercises, and strength exercises.

One of my biggest problems with training currently is being on night shift and not having enough time to train 5-6 days a week. At first, I thought 2-4 days a week would not be enough, but it has been a game changer for me. I'm enjoying my time in the gym now more than ever and still have plenty of time to go to jiu jitsu and get my rounds in without feeling worn out. I've also dropped some weight as well.
If you feel warn down hitting the gym and jiu jitsu, I highly recommend VSS programming. I'm currently using fight camp and feel great. One of the better programs I have used in awhile.

I met Matt at a seminar he conducted at our Jiu Jitsu school while I was recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus. I was actively seeking a program to help rebuild my strength and mobility, tailored to my body type and activities. Matt explained the program, and I knew instantly that I had to give it a try. After just four sessions, I'm already noticing a return in my strength and confidence. The injury had disrupted my exercise routine, but the accountability provided by the program is exactly what I needed. Now, I do all my strength and conditioning at VSS, alongside my Jiu Jitsu training, and I’m finding it to be the perfect balance for my workout and Jiu Jitsu needs.

Nothing intimidating or overwhelming, just great positive vibes that are supportive and encouraging. I've only been able to use their online coaching programs but they have been fantastic. Going on 9 and 1/2 years of jiu jitsu and being 35 years old and years of poor weight training and a lack of mobility. My body got to the point where I didn't know if I was going to continue to be able to do what I loved. That's when I found victory submission strength and I'm only about halfway through my first cycle of ming and I already see a huge difference in stability, mobility, balance, explosiveness, and strength. Furthermore, I'm not having to pull myself off the mats after each Jiu-Jitsu class. I can't recommend this program enough for anybody who's looking to not only become more athletic and more dominant on the mats but also improve their longevity in the game as well.

I started coming to this place because I saw a reel on Instagram. My first thought was, this looks fun and bad a**. My second thought was, being an athlete, I should be doing these things to avoid injuries. So, after having a quick video chat about my goals with mat (owner + coach) I took the leap and signed up for 3 months. So far, within my sport, I have noticed a significant decrease in injuries, as well as an encouraging difference in my strength and stability. This is huge for me.
Not only am I feeling stronger without feeling burned out, but I'm actually enjoying most of it.
When I would go to the gym, I would focus mostly on powerlifting, now with the help of my coaches I have a variety of functional training, coordination, and power.
This is a great place to train if you are an athlete or aspire to become one, if you are coming back from an injury, or want to start your fitness journey. The coaches can get you to your goals safely and efficiently.

Thankful for the experience I have had here at Victory! I actually came in as someone who practices martial arts, my biggest hurdle has been general health. Cardio, power, and preexisting injuries. I just never considered going to someone to help me and I’m glad I found Victory. This isn’t just working out at the gym nor is it even working with a personal trainer at said gym. This place strategizes with you, builds you a plan specific to you, and helps you progress thru what you’re capable of.
The focus is performance and for me, my goal wasn’t necessarily sports performance, it was general performance. The ability to feel good not “just” strong. Mobility, strength, agility, endurance, you name it they focus on overall capacity. I’d recommend just giving them a call to see if they can help. They have a generous trial period and promotions to get ppl in the door but it really helped because I thought it was too much or unnecessary but I’ve been now convinced this is so much better.

I joined Victory Submission Strength to gain confidence that I wouldn't get injured at jiu jitsu. After suffering from a separated shoulder and an MCL tear in my first year of training, I knew I needed to do something to fortify my body - knees, shoulders, hips, and toes (weird but true for a strong base).
Additionally, I used to feel exhausted before the warmups at BJJ were even over. I found certain movements very taxing and felt like that took away from the quality of my training.
After just a month of consistent, well-programmed strength training at VSS I can say with conviction I can feel the difference! Movements that used to sap my energy now feel easy. I'm feeling more confident on the mats and I know I've only just scratched the surface.
Very much looking forward to all I'm able to accomplish here. If you're reading this, sign up for a strategy session! You're in good hands here!

As an athlete who sustained many injuries over the years, I have explored all sorts of S&C methodologies, and none truly resonated with me until now. I must admit that this has been met with skepticism, largely due to past experiences that fell short of my expectations. What sets VSS apart is not just their expertise (I'm sure most are as qualified), but also their culture and training philosophy. Matt's philosophy regarding moderate-intensity training has been a game-changer for me. The program is challenging but not too difficult, this allows me to continue to safely participate in my sport, without fatigue. But this also often allows me to reach flow. All of their coaches are knowledgeable and entertaining. They make the least enjoyable parts of my exercise tolerable. If you’ve made it this far in research, good job for being meticulous, you should give it a try and see for yourself. You might enjoy it.

I worked with Matt and Brendan after signing up for the 2-week trial and if I wasn't moving out of the area I'd definitely be back! I had always been curious about personal training but was always too self-conscious to try. However, after hearing about the coaching and SEEING the results that Victory helped my friend achieve-- I decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. With a busy schedule, the two day a week commitment was easy to fit in and I found it to be a hyper-efficient workout compared to my usual routine of bumbling around the gym. Matt and Brendan were super kind, encouraging, and friendly and any doubts or nervousness I had quickly went out the window. The problem I had before training at Victory Submission Strength was I always got injured in training in Brazil Jiu Jitsu. I am one of the smallest person in adult class. I am only 5 feet tall, weighting 90 lbs when I started training in Brazil Jiu Jitsu. I tore my rotator cuff, fractured my knee, constantly sprained my ribs, I always sprained both my wrist really badly, continuously tearing my back muscles and consistently sprained both my ankles while training in Brazil Jiu Jitsu.
I knew had to change what I was doing in order to keep training in Brazil Jiu Jitsu, which is my passion. That is when I made the best decision to sign up at Victory Submission Strength in order to keep training in Brazil Jiu Jitsu and prevent injuries.
My problems where fixed by training at Victory Submission Strength because my Coaches Matt and Brendan made a program that catered to my needs in order strengthen my body so I could train Brazil Jiu Jitsu injury free. My injured shoulder feels way stronger than ever, my knee is getting stronger, my stomach muscles gotten stronger which is preventing me from spraining my ribs, both my wrist have healed and gotten stronger, my back muscles are hard as rock and my ankles are getting stronger. I also gained a lot of muscles, which was another goal of mine too.
What I am able to do that I was not able to do before is to train Brazil Jui Jitsu injury free. I also feel so much stronger so I able to train with people who are bigger than me without having anxiety of getting hurt by them. Training at Victory Submission Strength has changed my life immensely. Victory Submission Strength made me stronger, healthier and improve on Jui Jitsu game.
If you are reading this review, you should sign up for Victory Submission Strength whether you are an athlete of any sport or you are non athlete this will make you change your life for the better. You won't regret it. You will be stronger and live a healthy life style if you sign up at Victory Submission Strength.

Coach Matt, Coach Brendan, and Coach Jess are great fitness coaches that genuinely care about your progress. When I first entered the regime I was greeted welcomingly and was given a comprehensive assessment that overviewed all my fitness goals which was very nice. The workouts are well organized, perfect pace, and safe. This place pertains to grapplers especially but could easily cover any sports field necessary.

Matt, Jess, Brendan, Kelly, and Victory are awesome!
If you want to get better at jiujitsu faster, and especially if you want to compete and win, you’re seriously missing out if you don’t try this kind of program. I had a chat with Matt before I signed up to make sure my goals were in line with what Victory could provide. They do this for everyone & it’s free so you should go to their website and schedule a chat :) I’m not getting paid, incentivized, or even encouraged by them to say that, I just love them, what they’re doing, and how it’s helped me <3
I’ve been grappling & lifting since 2012 and competing a lot since 2017. I’ve done mostly powerlifting / heavy compounds and was looking to add - mobility, explosiveness, unknown unknowns. Instead of spending a ton of time to learn it all myself, I decided to try coaching, and I’m happy I did! Here’s a list of what I was looking for and found at Victory:
* Expertise in general athleticism and specifically: mobility / strength over range of motion, explosiveness, fixing imbalances and inefficiencies.
* People I want to be spending time with.
I did Victory’s 8-week camp leading up to No-Gi Worlds. I withheld judgement until I was deep into / through the program, so here’s a list of the benefits I saw from two sessions a week at Victory:
* Increased mobility, explosiveness, and ability to sustain scrambles.
* Improved core engagement and body positioning that translated to noticeable improvements in my body alignment and effective strength in jiu jitsu. e.g. hugely improved single leg strength and balance.
* More energy for jiujitsu training - the coaches at Victory are science driven & it turns out I don’t need to be lifting super heavy three days a week to be strong for jiujitsu. In two 1-1.5 hour sessions per week, I felt plenty strong for jiujitsu, and had more energy for it than I’ve ever had while lifting.
* In general, I’ve been way less stiff and in way less pain than when I was doing my old lifting routine, or even when I’m not lifting at all.
* I got to hang out with friendly, technical, helpful, and motivated people.
I’m going to be traveling & moving, so won’t be able to continue with Victory for now, but Matt’s a lovely human being and spent extra time with me to point me to other coaches and resources for my next program!

My son - 12yo junior hockey player, joined VSS 2 months ago with his team mate’s recommendation. The goal was to improve the strength and speed on the ice, and I already see his progress, that proves the efficiency and effectiveness of this program. We can keep track the past training menu and achievements with an app, which is very nice. The facility is nice, also the coaches are super friendly, nice and importantly, motivate my 12yo kid very well.
I am looking forward to seeing his progress one year later

This place is amazing! Great instruction and care. They don’t have too many people training at once without enough trainers to make sure you’re doing the exercises correctly. I didn’t realize how serious and far good form goes! I’ve only been training for 3 weeks and already I’ve been stronger at work (local 16 stagehand and motion picture studio grip) and bonus the wife was so stoked about the results that she TOLD ME that we’ve got to find a way to cut stuff out of budget to continue training! ;) LOL

I am currently a jiu-jitsu athlete and have been regularly training here for almost a year now. Before coming here, I was training by myself with the mindset of a bodybuilder/powerlifter. This did not translate well into my sport and saw little to no improvements in my game. I was strong in certain lifts but still weak in the positions/movements that I am put in demanded by the sport.
Once I started training here with coach Matt and coach Brenden, I started to see a huge difference. Noticeably, I was able to use my strength to help me fight and win dominant positions. Moreover, my conditioning increased where I can match my work pace with other more advanced athletes. Certain movements like pull-ups were a huge struggle before. Now I am able to do several reps unassisted. And this movement is crucial as pulling strength is used a lot for maintaining control.
Each workout program given to me is custom and works on my current strengths and needs. With each program evolution, I find myself progressing to more advanced movements and heavier lifts. My overall strength and athletic ability has increased and this is all thanks to the coaches at Victory. I would have never have thought to work with a personal coach since there are so many free resources online. However, I wouldn't have the same results that I have achieved at Victory if I just trained by myself.

Before coming to Victory Submission Strength (VSS), I never had any former strength and conditioning coaching. I would go to the gym, do my own workouts, and go to BJJ class. I felt like I was in good shape, but I started to feel like I was plateauing physically with my jiu-jitsu and would even have to take a few days off to tend to minor injuries.
Working with the VSS team was a positive eye-opener for me. I didn’t realize how stiff I was in certain areas (particularly my shoulder and knees) and how much I wasn’t challenging myself to my full capability. As a jiu-jitsu practitioner, having the full range of motion goes a long way. The strength to go along with it is a major plus. I had knee surgery in the past (ACL/Meniscus), so this was a major point for me.
After my first couple of sessions with VSS, I noticed the difference immediately. Matt and the team created an awesome program tailored to me and my goals and were very patient, walking through all the exercises and movements with me. Their positive encouragement helped me push through some more challenging workouts. Thanks to the VSS team, they helped me identify these areas of improvement and created a plan to help me get stronger and more flexible! My surgery knee feels the best it has ever felt, and my confidence in doing explosive movements grows with each session.
In a short time, I noticed major differences in my conditioning, explosiveness, range of motion, and how much weight I could lift. I love how strong and balanced I feel after every session. The sense of accomplishment is very real.
I highly recommend trying VSS, especially if you are a grappler or looking to get in great shape. They will help take you to the next level!

I had never experienced such personalized training and coaching until I joined Victory High Performance. This setting encouraged me to engage in workouts that I wouldn't typically push myself to do, especially focusing on the upper body, and to maintain a consistent schedule (twice a week). With each passing week, I was able to use more weight without overstressing my body. I began to see results within a few short weeks. The staff is amazing—friendly, attentive, and responsive. Overall, it was a great experience.

I am a EMT and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve been doing BJJ for well over a decade. Over the years I’ve endured countless injuries, aches, pains, and stiffness. During the midst of covid-19 pandemic, i suffered from a fracture in my lumbar region. I thought soft tissue therapy and regular visits to the chiropractor would solve the pain, but it was only a temporary solution. I felt discouraged and reluctantly accepted that I would live with this pain for the rest of my life.
I then spoke with Matt and his clients about Victory Submission Strength. His clients, who are also BJJ practitioners, had only great things to say. I took my first class, and i was blown away. The coaches are very approachable, accommodating, and show great attention to detail.
I have taken three classes, and have already seen improvements after the second. Before VSS, I struggled to put my hand on my lower back. I can now scratch my shoulder blades! If I’m already seeing improvements in few weeks, I can’t wait to see what’ll happen after a year.
If you are currently struggling with an injury/injuries and or want to get to the next level. I highly recommended enrolling!

Before I started training with Victory High Performance I was starting to plateau with my jiu jitsu. I often found myself giving up in bad positions due to a lack of upper body strength needed to create space, escape and transition to a dominant position. Since I’ve been following the program tailored to my needs I am able to not only dominate positions easier and exert more explosiveness but I have more confidence. It’s absolutely crazy to reflect on the weight I lifted after a session or how many body weight exercises I completed that I would have never thought I could!

I started going to Victory High Performance after they did their "Bulletproof Your Body" seminar at my jiujitsu gym back in April. At the time, I was still recovering from a knee injury I got during a jiujitsu competition back in December, and I was frustrated because my knee pain was not going away no matter what I did.
Now it's been about two months and I'm beyond grateful to have taken that leap and join VHP. Through their programming, my knee has not only gotten significantly better, but my entire leg feels so much stronger and more stable. The same could be said for the rest of my body as well--I feel significantly stronger and more stable and it shows through my non-jiujitsu endeavors (which I seriously appreciate Matt for considering my non-jiujitsu/circus-focus needs and goals when coming up with my program). Whether you are recovering from an injury or looking for a place for strength and conditioning, I wholeheartedly recommend VHP.
Some things I also really appreciate about VHP:
-I love their approach to building athletes up instead of breaking them down. If something doesn't feel good, they will adjust accordingly and allow you time to build up to the next progression. They also take into account how you feel that day, which I really appreciate that
-The semi-private session still feels like I'm doing a private with a personal trainer. I've never felt like I wasn't getting the attention I needed/I had to wait until a trainer was free--even when it was a full group
-I really like how they incorporate TrainHeroic and just having that platform to keep track of things has been really beneficial
-Everyone is so nice and supportive; its a really awesome community here and they do a really amazing job making this a third place

I've had issues with my hip mobility as well as general and explosive strength when it came to weight lifting and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu prior to training at Victory High Performance. These issues were addressed via an one on one interview with Matt, the owner and head trainer, prior to my training at Victory and a training plan was created based on what I wanted to work on. Work outs are challenging and scalable based on your current fitness and strength level, i.e. using lighter/heavier weights, adjusting movement patterns, utilizing various work out equipment, etc. They even take into consideration other aspects that may effect your training on that same day of your training session, such as sleep, mood, stress level, etc. After going through just a month of training, I have seen an increase in my hip mobility as well as general and explosive strength when it comes to weight lifting and more importantly in my BJJ training. I've even noticed an improvement in body composition and size as well as an increase in body weight and muscle tone. I highly recommend going to Victory High Performance if you want to see noticeable gains in your strength, speed, mobility, coordination, and explosiveness in regards to your overall fitness or specific sports performance needs. Matt and Brendan are knowledgeable about strength and conditioning, passionate about fitness and health, and are extremely friendly. Combine that with the other clientele, whom are just as equally friendly, that you will be working with throughout your fitness journey and what you get is a chill, encouraging, supportive, and positive work out environment to help keep you striving for more.

I joined Victory HP seven months after major knee surgery (ACL reconstruction/meniscus repair). I am a full time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete, and due to the demands of the sport, my leg has to be very strong when I return. Physical therapy is wonderful, and was helping me quite a bit, but wasn’t giving me the level of conditioning I needed for return to sport.
Since joining Victory and working with Matt, in just over a month, I’ve regained physical capability far faster than I thought. And most importantly, I’ve done it without feeling like my knee is in danger of injury. They created a plan to meet my unique recovery needs, and have carefully worked with me through my recovery. Before I started training at VHP, It was hard for me to squat down without biasing towards my good leg. I couldn’t even slightly jump. After 6 weeks, I’m currently dead lifting near my body weight, and now easily skipping and shuffling. I’m able to train more in my sport, my knee feels a lot stronger. Most importantly, I’ve experienced a significant decrease in joint weakness and pain. I could not recommend this facility more.

I have been suffering with some knee and wrist issues for quite a while. Although not debilitating, the aches and lack of a pain free range of motion was effecting my performance in both strength training and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Although trying some PT exercises helped alleviate some of the issues, I still didn't have the confidence in my effected limbs or range of motion that I was looking for. I have now been going to Victory High Performance for 4-weeks now and have noticed a huge difference. My wrist were the first to begin to feel better and just this past Sunday, while performing some heavy squats and dead lifts, I felt a noticeable difference with my knees. For the first time in over a year, my knees didn't feel unbalanced. They felt firm and stable in both the squat and deadlift movements. With this new confidence in my knees, I decided to put a little more weight on my dead lift and hit a new PR. So happy to have joined and the crew there is great! They are very helpful, know their stuff and are invested in your mobility success!

I joined VHP to take my strength and conditioning to the next level for my performance goals in different sports- BJJ, swimming, and dancing.
One of my current goals has been to gain more muscle mass and I’m excited that results are already showing after my first month. The VHP team has also helped me pivot from previous crossfit-focused strength training programs to a more holistic functional-strength training one. I am a spindly 51-year-old woman with a new osteoporosis diagnosis. I also have a lifelong belief that I am fragile and weak and thus I have a terror of working out in gyms. My thoughts go something like this: “I will probably hurt myself and everyone will be secretly snickering at those tiny weights I am trying to lift.” It didn’t help that the first time I worked with a personal trainer she gave me bad advice and I injured myself. But I know that strength training is crucial to reversing osteoporosis and I felt I had no choice but to face my fears and find a strength coach. I knew a bit about Matt (Victory High Performance owner) via his work with a friend. His credentials and experience made me willing to risk it.
By the second session, Matt had me safely and successfully completing the lifting activity that had injured me previously. Within a couple of weeks, I was feeling like a strong person, not a weak and fragile person, and was amazed at how each individually-designed workout session was getting more intensive while feeling easier. I had expected to hate strength training as I had before but, no exaggeration, going to this gym quickly became my favorite part of the week.
Matt is deliberate about creating a positive culture of respect. Far from fearing that people are snickering at my tiny kettlebell, I walk in with confidence and fist bump and joke with buff young guys lifting 250 pounds. I feel supported and encouraged by everyone there and have not once felt self-conscious. I was admiring a woman lifting 150 pounds and Matt said I’ll get there, no problem. And the thing is, I believe him. And I never would’ve believed that before.
Matt has a wonderful demeanor of confidence, calmness, and expert competence. If an old injury is acting up, he knows how to make adjustments so I finish the work out pain-free. He makes it easy for me to believe in myself as a strong-and-getting-stronger person. Strength training with him (and his other trainers, I’ve worked with them all) has built my self-image, my self-esteem, and become a thing that a spindly-but-not-for-long 51-year-old woman like me does and loves. I strongly, strongly recommend Victory High Performance for anyone – from champion athletes (I have seen their testimonials where they rave about his training) to (initially) timid, spindly osteoporotic women like me. VHP is amazing!!!

I hadn't realized how many holes and gaps had accrued in my previous training until I started working with Matt. Everything I do, from daily activities to my juxtaposed athletic hobbies, has been significantly improved by VHP's perceptive coaching. My balance, proprioception and body-mechanics are continuing to evolve at an alarming rate!
If you're looking to bounce back form an injury stronger than you were before, or elevate your training, you should absolutely book a strategy session now!

I came to see Matt looking to get into better shape and help my issues with poor shoulder mobility. After 2 months my deadlift tripled and my shoulder pain went away. A great gym experience.

I've never been one for the gym. I'm athletic and active but never a dedicated gym goer. Until I found VHP six months ago. I love Matt's methodology and the individualized attention I get from working with a trainer, since maintaining good form is crucial for me in learning these new exercises. I was motivated to start because I was starting to experience some nagging back pain, which was disrupting me from getting into any kind of rhythm with working out. My goals were essentially to keep my body in great working condition as I take on new sports (mountain biking, surfing, dance classes). Since I've started working with Matt not only is back pain non-existent, I've hit an over the fence home run in a softball game, which is something I haven't been able to do since I was young, I can do unassisted chin ups, and I could sprint through the airport dragging heavy luggage behind me during the holiday season like it was easy. I'm hitting new PRs every week, meeting new, fun/awesome people all the time in the gym and learning so much about improving the physical state of my body. I'm excited to start including mobility training with Matt, and seeing all that I can accomplish in my second 6 months with him.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Coach Matt for the high level of training you provide at VHP!
For years, I had severe knee pain that forced me to stop all kinds of physical activities (dancing, wearing high heels, jiu jitsu, working out). Sadly, I was convinced that I’d never be able to enjoy those things again.
Everything changed when I started training at VHP. They taught me that the goal of training is not to make you tired and sore just for the hell of it, but to train with a purpose and goals in mind. Coach Matt always keeps a watchful eye on my form and makes sure I’m safe during training.
Now my knee pain is gone and I’m able to enjoy the things I love without the fear of getting injured. I feel strong, confident, and happy with my body and all it can do.

My body—owing to a lifetime of running, weightlifting, and nearly 14 years of training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu—suffers from numerous impairments. As I've aged, it is increasingly difficult to train with the necessary frequency and intensity to stay on the mats while balancing my activities in other sports. I joined VHP to regain some of the flexibility and strength that working out on my own had lost.
Any coach can get you exhausted, but a great coach like Matt will:
- Assess your goals and limitations to inform your programming.
- Endeavor to find a way to add value and get the best out of you.
- Inject the necessary cues to correct your form.
- Be the voice in your head to push yourself further than what you'd be able to do alone.
VHP's programming keeps things interesting while exploring your body's limits for applicable movement, conditioning, and strength. The equipment is all high-quality, the apps are easy to use, and they harness the data you create to inform future efforts, while allowing you to observe your performance over time. You leave a training session having been challenged in the right ways.
After three months of programming, I feel stronger and move more easily than I have in many years. I would recommend that you join us at VHP to find what you are capable of.

To be honest, I was a bit concerned before starting the fight camp program because I'm not an athlete. I felt that I might be going over border since my goal was to exercise properly and lose some weight.
I got say that I was surprise on how the workout sessions are organized and coach Matt modify the exercises according to your skill and strength levels so you can make progress without "killing" yourself trying to keep up if other people in the class that have more experience than you, and the best part of it is that there is no "shame" in not being on a certain fitness level.
It was very easy to detect the improvements over the time, I remember feeling VERY sore after my first two sessions but with time, it was noticeable the progress, not just on how much weight I was carrying in each exercise but on normal activities throughout a normal day, like not having to sit down to put on my sneakers because now I actually had balance to do it standing =D
I gotta say that my highlight was to be able to do full push ups after 6 weeks of training, given that I could not do a single one before. One thing that I love are my tights now, so many muscles =P
I highly recommend it for people with any fitness level and goals.

Hello Everyone,
I have recently started my training with Matt. I love it! Matt carefully listens, very agile and able to adjust training properly to my condition. Initially, I have approached him with my concern about knees and low back pain, he proposed training program which I follow and I feel that it is working! I feel way better, stronger, and it helps me with daily life activities and hobbies. This is my first experience with training under close supervision, and I am amazed with the level of details and corrections that Matt provides.
It is also great to see what other people have achieved under his supervision! I truly recommend Matt’ gym and coaching. Great place, great coach and great people around!

As I get older, especially with two knee surgeries under me, I used to get injured more often and had weak leg strength.
Matt @ Victory High Performance has been a god-send in how he has built a super-structured fitness and strength/conditioning program customized just to my needs.
Since starting with VHP, I now feel much stronger and get injured less often. Matt is also a great motivator - pushing me to challenge myself but do so very progressively and in a controlled, safe manner. He's also just a wonderful person to be around! Always smiling, positive and happy :)
If you want to get fitter, stronger and more healthy - I highly recommend VHP - 10/10!!

Amazing gym, amazing workouts! Coach Matt is the man. He is incredibly friendly and extremely qualified. I came to VHP coming off 2 knee surgeries seeking to improve my movement and become the Jiu-Jitsu athlete I was before. After just 1 month, I've noticed a significant improvement in my overall strength, mobility and flexibility. I'm now able to perform exercises that I had no confidence in before due to my injury. Matt does a great job tailoring every workout and making sure you get the individual attention that you need. Perfect for keeping you accountable.
If you're looking to become a top tier athlete in your sport or just wanting overall fitness, I highly recommend checking out Victory High Performance! It's worth every penny.

Fitness has and will always be large part of my lifestyle. I’ve tried multiple training programs/philosophies over the years. This is the best by far for a couple of reasons. The first being there’s a pretty low entry barrier let’s say that you can’t perform one of the movements dude to lack of flexibility injury or just don’t have the muscle memory, yet coach Guffey gives you movements you can start with to ease your way into
them. Another reason this program is so great is I has an emphasis on being transferable to the real world, focus on flexibility, balance, strength & agility you’ll see improvements not only in your sport(if you play one) but also in you day to day life. He also has top notch videos and always answer any questions you may have in a timely manner, you may not have any though as he’s constantly dropping valuable content that ranges anywhere from fitness movement to mental framework. The one thing I will say I wish he would have been up front about so the fact that this training will make you and injury proof, I’ve had no down time due to injury since starting this program which is something that I don’t believe I could say before at any other time in my fitness journey.

I was constantly suffering injuries in my sport, and didn’t know how or what to workout to strengthen my body the right way. My workouts were random bits of programs and moves I’d seen body builders do in the gym, they were inconsistent, and I wasn’t tracking any metrics to see whether or not I was progressing the right way. I eventually couldn’t compete in my sport anymore, which is when I joined Victory High Performance.
Matt has been an amazing coach, in just a few weeks I progressed from hardly any sport-specific activity and not being able to go for walks/hikes on my bad ankle to returning to my sport almost 100% and spending all day walking around on day trips without any pain! I have much better balance and stability, both in and out of the gym. My teammates, friends, and family have all commented on how strong and healthy I look since starting VHP fight camp. If you have experienced any type of chronic pain from a sport OR from sitting at a desk job all day like me, you need to check this place out ASAP! Matt will have you fixed up in no time~

When I first came to Victory High Performance it was a few short weeks after being cut by a Junior hockey team I thought I was going to make. The advice they gave me was simple, I needed to get stronger. When I found out my old coach Matthew Guffey had started a private gym I decided to contact him and he welcomed me with open arms. He created a personal workout plan for me, specifically for me as a hockey player. I hit the gym 4 days a week for 5 months and the results of improvement were remarkable. Since then I have been drafted and I don’t only feel stronger on the ice, but I also feel significantly faster. VHP excelled my skills in every which way from hand eye coordination to agility. Can’t wait to get back in next summer.

I wanted to be a faster, stronger, and especially more balanced hockey player as I just grew 5 inches is the last year. Currently, I have only spent one summer doing VHP workouts and already, I am seeing changes. I have improved my balance immensely, my explosiveness, and my overall strength. I go to hockey practice feeling more confident than ever! I think that this program can really help you in whatever sport or training you do!

I came to VHP, recovering from an injury, and looking to improve my skating speed as well as balance and strength. Matt made me detailed workouts tailored to my goals. Two days ago I had my first practice of the season and felt amazingly strong on the ice. Especially for not having skated in the past two weeks. I was much faster and I felt stronger and more balanced. I 100% recommend his programs, do not miss out!

I started working with Matt on the ice, and was immediately impressed with his positive attitude, attention to detail, and honest encouragement - if you’re doing something wrong he’s gonna call you on it, but he’s there with a shout out when you get it right. When ice time was shut down due to COVID, he didn’t sit around but gets certified, rents some space, and starts his own gym - I completely respect that initiative and it motivated me to do more. He loves what he does, and you feel that when you walk in and see that glint in his eye and he reaches out with a big fist bump and shout of excitement. As an athlete I’ve had my share of injuries, and Matt is in tune with that and pushes me hard enough to reach my goals but not go beyond my limits where I’m broken, he finds that perfect balance. Stoked to call Matt my coach who’s making me stronger, faster, and just a straight up better person overall.

I’ve always want to be the best Jiu-Jitsu athlete I can. Two bad injuries took me off the mats for a few years. Every time I would come back I’d hurt myself again. Tried weight lifting and hurt myself even more. Something wasn’t right… I thought just a tougher mindset, pushing through and dedication would get me there. I was wrong, I couldn’t use all that dedication unless using professional help to work around my injuries and get me able to reach my full potential again.
Coach Matt came in perfect timing. After the first strategy session I knew I was in good hands. I could tell he really paid attention to my injuries and right off the bat started to plan some modifications and cool exercises.
After 3 months of training I learned so much and NO INJURIES training hard.
Now after 6 months I can clearly see the difference in endurance, explosion and overall mobility. Exactly what I asked and what was planned. Coach is extremely professional and has a really funny way of explaining moves we have a hard time executing. It’s a fun way to learn and be motivated.
You should definitely schedule a strategy session and go check it out!

Came to Matt looking to improve overall strength for grappling. It’s been a few months now, and on his program I’ve noticed big strength gains in areas I hadn’t considered before, specifically in single-leg lifts.
My balance and movement has improved, and although I’m training with him consistently, I don’t notice persistent soreness like when I was doing solo weight lifting in the past.
Very knowledgeable, and high-quality training. Would recommend to anyone, whether you’re an athlete, just wanting to get in shape, or feel like getting some guidance from a good trainer.

Been working out at VHP for a month now, spent the last few years working out at a different private training gym that I liked.
Matthew’s attention to detail and and planning is really great. I feel like he really cares about my fitness and has great ideas to help me move forward.
He’s super positive and encouraging and I’m glad he opened the gym. I’m looking forward to ditching my COVID 15 (or 25…) and seeing where we end up.
Completely satisfied with everything we’ve done so far, my last gym was great but I think this is a big step up in terms of personal attention.
If you’re looking to be a better athlete this is the place.

As a junior hockey player, finding a fitness trainer that truly assists me in gaining strength is difficult. Victory High Performance programs an athlete specific program personalized on your own goals, injuries, etc. Matt Guffey’s attention to detail and positivity in the gym gave me the best opportunity to compete against high level competition, and I feel much more confident stepping onto the ice!
I would highly recommend any athlete, or anyone looking to get into the gym, work with Victory High Performance. 10/10

Excellent opportunity to build, develop, and discover/re-discover my fitness abilities. My work with Matt Guffey has positively improved my overall health and athletic endeavors as an avid 'adult - league' hockey player at Sharks Ice, Bay Area/Santa Cruz surfer, and fitness enthusiast.
As a middle school teacher, I now have more energy to keep up with my teaching schedule as well as coaching volleyball and adhering to personal goals and commitments.
The training I am receiving is a well balanced approach which challenges me constantly, but doesn't bring about a feeling of exercise burn-out. I would recommend working with Matt at "VHP" for any person wanting to improve their game, and most importantly themselves!

Victory High Performance is an outstanding program to be a part of. I started this program to become a better hockey player and get ready for junior hockey next year. Victory High Performance has you perform a fitness test before any sort of training so he knows what exercises to assign you. Each session is very hard and intense and is worth the money. Within a few weeks of being a part of Victory High Performance I have seen and felt results. However, during my first couple months of training I got injured and I thought I couldn’t train anymore. Victory High Performance programmed me sessions and adjusted my training to work around my injury making my recovery much easier. I rate this program 5 stars and recommend to sign up now!
