Horrible experience - Kid with blonde hair in the front counter is very rude. Sold us passes for the day without telling us half of the gym is closed. I asked for a reimbursement and he got hostile. Beware of the rude kids that work here.

This gym seems pretty decent so far. I got a membership so we'll see how it goes 🙌🏻
I'm bummed there's no lead climbing but there's always outdoor for that! I understand that's why it may be cheaper or liability issues.

staff were so so SO kind and helpful which really made the experience :) i am a capital B beginner rock climber (v0-v2) and i went with friends in the range from v1-v6 and we all had an amazing time— all the courses (?) are challenging but not too challenging and it was overall very enjoyable

I really loved coming here as a kid, but since then, I've seen a huge decline in staffing quality. I've had staff be super rude to me and 90% of the time they're just on their phones, making it difficult to get their attention. Not all of them are bad, but I hope they get some new staff soon.

this is our first time going to this location here in LongBeach🍻. I have previously been to the location in Hawthorne, but this is the first time taking my kids. They enjoyed the auto ballet system. We did not try to do the bouldering, but the first time you come here you need to do a basic safety instruction class, which doesn't take very longstaff. Here is very friendly and helpful. Location is in a great spot. Have fun and enjoy yourself.

This is my go to gym when I need to workout and climb. The bouldering walls are updated in sections and done every Tuesday so there’s always new routes once a week in different sections! The staff is super friendly and it’s usually great music (sometimes there is loud rock which I’m not a fan of but eh what can you do 🤷🏻♀️).
The top rope section is small but that’s okay there are two areas to do it. The autobelay is nice when you want to do reps of climbs to get your cardio.
The only drawback of this place is the lack of A/C and it definitely smells like feet 😂 but for the price I can’t complain too much. This place is great and if you end up liking this company there are tons of other locations you can go to with your membership and they’re all unique and fun!
This gym is the reason I’m so into climbing now and I’ve learned a lot from the people who both work there and climb there.

The gym staff were really nice and welcoming, making me immediately feel at home. The gym itself is on the smaller side with two top rope walls, two auto belay walls and an average sized bouldering area. For solo climbers, there are a total of five auto belays, all of which had a 5.9 or lower set on them. The setting was a little stiffer than I’m used to but my gym is known for soft setting (Touchstone). All in all you really can’t beat it for the atmosphere and price.

Solid gym for first timers and for most climbers. Has some slab problems, small cave, and overhang routes, and of course a lot of vertical and horizontal routes. As for route setting a lot of routes can conflict with other holds so if you come at a busier time you might have to wait longer for routes.
(note that the bouldering section is smaller than Hangar 18 Orange, and South Bay).
They change routes pretty slow so it can be a bit boring if you are in a plateau and wanting more variety. But their routes are quite more technical and strength required (V6 and higher) compared to the other Hangar 18 I have been to.

I like this gym. Good top rope selection, auto belays are also good and consistently changing. The bouldering is also challenging and changes every few weeks. The staff is friendly and helpful. On hot days it is Hot. Only a few fans running but no air conditioning if that is important to you.

Update 8/2024
One of my favorite Hangar 18s!
Routesettings are very fun, holds are unique, and helped me learn a d improve techniques.
My first V5 done here :)

4/2024
I think this gym’s grading is stiffer compared to the other hanger 18s. The V2s are very humbling! lol
Not a lot of fun routes, but learned many new techniques and climbing styles here.
Finished one of my very first few V4s here! 💫

PSA: The gyms only cooling system are fans spread around the gym and has been experiencing electrical issues/shortages for the past week. I asked if there were going to be any updates and there are still no solutions. There are no fans currently working. I had a terrible experience with this service. The website was confusing and employee at your facility provided misleading information during the sign-up process. I only wanted a one-day pass but was convinced to sign up for a one-month membership instead. Despite confirming multiple times that I did not want to be charged for more than one month, I am now being billed for three months. When I tried to cancel, I was told it couldn't be done until August 1st, contradicting what I was initially informed. I feel deceived and frustrated, as the staff gave me conflicting information after I had already signed up. I only used the service once and will never return. This has been a very bad experience with false promises and poor communication. I would be satisfied by just being charged for my one month as told or my one visit if anything . Very conflicting information and hard to get a hold of any supervisor or management to cancel membership. Such a headache there staff is trained just to keep passing the touch and emails that have no response.

I've been to the Long Beach Hangar twice now, and the second time around, the routes were super interesting. Each wall offers fairly unique climbs like a lot of gyms try to offer, but I feel Long Beach routesetters know what they're doing. There were a few climbs that offered dynamic approaches to them that were super fun, and you feel cool swinging from one hold to a mid-air hang between two holds. Super stellar stuff. The gym isn't as big as the Orange location, but parking is plenty, and it doesn't get nearly as crowded as Orange either. I came here Saturday morning and never once felt like I had to wait for anyone to climb anything. They do offer top rope and auto belay here, and I'll admit I was rusty on my top rope tech ique, but the front desk staff were super helpful and gave us a refresher. They have a small workout area with a bench and a few weights that nothing to be amazed about as well as a standard campus board and kilter. Honestly, if the Orange location is packed, come check out Long Beach Hangar. You won't be disappointed.
Update: May 2024
I've been really enjoying coming here on the weekends. There's still no crowd, parking is always available, staff always friendly, and the routes have gotten more unique since my initial review, in my opinion. They do take a bit of time to reset certain walls but this gives you enough time to work out a project.

Friendly staff. 2 large clean bathrooms. Good hang board area and auto belay. Lots of fresh air circulating and fun crowd. I enjoy the problems and the place seems safe.
Easy parking nearby. Safe. Water cooler. Hangboard and project board. They have a few good top rope apots. A small cave boulder area. They seem to set new routes on Tuesday. The front desk is always so damn nice. A great place to make new friends. Friendly crowd.

Really like this hangar 18 versus the one in orange. This location tends to be less crowded during peak times. It’s bigger, offers bouldering, auto belay and top rope. The staff and vibe are much better in my opinion. This gym is also extremely kid friendly with many kids in the gym climbing. Seems like a community and everyone likes to help everyone vs the orange location where everyone was very indifferent to you being there. My kids ages 13 and 9 love it here. There are many beginner routes and enough to challenge more experienced climbers. I would highly recommend this location if you have kids.

Needs more auto belay - they have 5 lines. My small local wall in small town UK has 7. Friendly staff. Payment is card-only, so be warned foreign visitors. However, foreign/out-of-town visitors will love the one month prepaid membership, which was really smart of Hangar 18 to provide as an option. I like the route setting here on the autobelay lines better than the South Bay location, for some reason. Parking is ample. Something I really like here is the top roping on walls that simulate rock. Something I really don't like is the American Yosemite Decimal System grading - the French system is much better and global.

I absolutely love coming to this gym. This is not the closest gym to me but I drive about 30 minutes out of the way to come by. They have a variety of climbing types and styles as well as a weights area, yoga studio, and a Kilter Board! This gym really has everything I am looking for when training.
The auto belay area is my favorite, the route setters set a wide variety of styles and grades on the four walls. As someone who usually boulders, I love the opportunity to do some taller climbs without a belay partner.
Staff is always friendly and willing to answer any questions. The facility is kept very clean and walls are reset often. I highly recommend this location.

Best Hangar 18 I’ve visited in SoCal in terms of climbing routes for beginner. The gym is large. A lot of trails both bouldering and belay (didn’t see much auto belay though). Plenty of parking including those in shades. Cool temperature. Aircon was working better than other Hangar 18 I’ve been to. Restroom wasn’t that pleasant.

Nasty attitude!!!!
I scheduled an appointment for my son last week at this place, the interaction wasn’t great, however, I decided to come back to give this place a try. Unfortunately today at 2:00 pm for our first day of class; we encounter very poor customer service. Rude, no greeting, no manners, no interest in engaging or direct us at all. Perhaps this place has customers that are pros on this and happy to go to an almost empty gym, but for beginners I definitely give this place a 0. I will say if you are not happy in your work place or your business, find another carrier.

In short, the quality of customer service and class instruction offered at this facility varied greatly between the associates. So if you have a subpar experience w/ an associate/instructor (like we did), you may want to sign up/deal with a different staff.
On 1/2/2023, my partner (beginner climber) and I (a complete novice) showed up for an intro to rock climbing class. 3 other participants joined us; all got outfitted on time and waited.
The instructor (light brown, curly hair, bespectacled male) began the class 10-15 min late and w/o the usual introductions (e.g. the instructor’s name/qualifications, participants’ names and asking about our prior climbing experience, etc.). After a few min into the class, he mentioned his name.
The instruction was roughly divided into four parts: 1) tying a figure 8 knot; 2) taking in slack using the gri gri and the 4 point safety checks; 3) how to use the gri gri lever and hold the brake side of the rope to help a climber descend; and 4) basic commands between the belayer and climber.
Overall, the pace of the instruction felt rushed. Trying to squeeze in all the necessary information and the actual climbing/belaying demonstrations by all participants in the allotted 45 minutes resulted in:
- some key instructions being left out,
-some participants not receiving adequate oversight by the instructor,
-not allowing sufficient time needed to mentally digest the new information and become comfortable with manually working the ropes and gri gri, and
- creating panic (at least for me) and a potentially unsafe climbing environment for some participants.
There were definitely some noticeable gaps in the instruction and supervision. For instance, we were NOT instructed on the following:
* Proper belay stance
*(prior to climbing) What the climber needs to do with his/her arms and legs when descending.
*Whether there is any maximum safe weight differential between a belayer and climber. I had no idea if I (95 lbs) could safely belay my partner (190 lbs).
*No explanation of the effect of rain/moisture (it was raining that day and a few days preceding) and how it could greatly increase the friction between the rope and gri gri, which would have explained why I had such trouble taking in slack (On our second visit (another rainy day), a very helpful and friendly female associate came over and explained this to me and to another female belayer and suggested that we use a thinner rope, which immediately solved the problem. She also showed us the proper belaying stance, watched us closely and gave us helpful feedback while we practiced belaying. I went back to the gym on a dry day and had absolutely no issues with taking in slack using the thicker rope. Air moisture matters!)
*No live demonstration by the instructor that included both a belayer and an actual climber, to show how the whole thing came together. All of the demonstrations by the instructor involved a free hanging rope.
*No bouldering basics or auto belay basics (Per their website, these are to be covered in the intro to rock climbing class.)
The worst part and the area needing the most improvement was the instructor’s communication. The class ended with the instructor saying to each participant, “you’re okay” to indicate his blessing. When he turned to me, he said sternly, “AND YOU, YOU SHOULDN’T BE BELAYING! I DON’T WANT YOU BELAYING UNLESS YOU’RE BEING OVERSEEN BY AN ASSOCIATE.”
I agree that it was not safe for me belay that day using the thicker rope, which I should have been told before our belay session, not afterwards. And I indeed needed the instructor’s full attention while belaying, which I did not get. Having said that, there are so many, more encouraging and supportive ways to get the same message across than how he communicated.
Honestly, despite having purchased annual memberships, my partner and I would have hesitated returning to this facility, had we not received the help and support from the wonderful female associate. And I’m glad we did.

Decent prices for the area and they have a good variety of climbing choices/routes. The only thing is I don't know why they differentiate between bouldering and the other climbing classes online. The instructors are able to teach whatever you want to do even though they only offer certain times for required classes for newcomers online.

Update 12/2022: Still great. I do wish the lighting was better by the cave and that there was a greater variety of sets. However, I think they're getting better at creating more challenging sets at the lower levels that require more thought about positioning.
Original: This is one of my closest Hangar 18s, and it's my favorite one to go to. I only do bouldering, so I can't speak to the auto-belay or top-roping.
It's smaller than Orange and Hawthorne, but the sets are great. I like the progression of the difficulties. It makes more sense to me here than at the other gyms. The staff are friendly. The restrooms are clean. The mats are well-maintained. There's plenty of parking. I also like the people who come here. Most of the people who come around are friendly, and that makes me more comfortable as a newer climber.

Ou utiliser un autre produit plus efficace.
Merci.

Great gym. Staff are friendly. Routes aren't that challenging but it works for Long Beach.
If would be great if the gym members would just learn how to flush after urinating. It's so "great" to walk into the bathroom after somebody and see the toilet filled with urine. I mean how hard is it to flush. It's not like you're not gonna wash your hands after climbing.

I guess standards for a 4 star gym are alot lower in So-Cal. $33 dollar day pass unless you use Groupon. The dirtiest holds I have ever climbed and don't appear to have been washed ever. The setting for the bouldering was sub-par but not terrible. On a facilities note they have no drinking fountain so sink water only. They have no wifi, no real weights area, high prices, no A/C, and good luck getting any help from the staff. Pick any other gym in So-Cal or head up north where the 1 star gyms are better.

This is a decent rock gym. Routes are changed often. Only downside is that they should wash the holds.

Climbers and staff seem a lot less pretentious than other places I’ve been to but these are definitely rated less difficult than they really are. Recommend this place for people that have been climbing for a bit, not new climbers.

Bouldering area is fairly basic and lacks variety however it’s not the facility focus and the prices are fair.

This place is small and it feels crowded and cramped. The people here however are very kind and generous; full of adventure. I had a great time climbing here and they offer fun for all skill levels. It was pretty cheap too!

Didn't get 5 stars because there isn't any AC, so you're basically sweating whether you climb a lot or not.
Staff was super friendly though, and the gym was generally pretty clean.
Please get AC!

Best climbing gym company! Wish they had more Nationwide. When the kids would come over the summer it got pretty crowded- but affordable clean and friendly staff

What a cool place. The staff is polite, the climbing community is awesome and the facility is what's clean. I love how often they change the routes. We bring the whole family 6 to 43 years old and never feel out of place. I do recommend you go as early as you can. The place gets packed in the evenings. Unless you are looking for a cool place to hangout.

Great beginning climbing gym! I have been able to use this gym to get to the next level in my climbing. I feel it's been a great little local gym. It's best for bouldering here!

They just replaced the pads in the bouldering area so that’s good, but they still need better lighting (can’t tell some routes apart from others sometimes), air conditioning, and better rope routes (feels like they were set by boulderers). Four stars because the vibe here is great and people are chill (fellow climbers and the workers).

If you enjoy a sufferfest come here. They wanted me to pay $33 for a day pass lol...it's quite small, there's no a/c and no water fountain; doesn't seem like they wash the holds. Unless it's the closest gym to you it's not worth it. If you are visiting from out of town check groupon first.

2 for 1 deal on Tuesday!!
What a fun experience. Wow !
We were lucky to have taken the intro class with Mark and he was a great instructor. He took his time explaining the safety steps and showing us the ropes - literally! Lol
He was fantastic. He was very careful and waited with us until we got a hang of the whole thing. And after 30 minutes we were doing our own buckling and climbings.
Having this deal really is a great opportunity, especially for beginnings, to try it out to see if they like it.
The day pass is $33 per person, but like I said on Tuesday's its 2 for the price of 1. And the membership is $36, so for $3 more you get to have a whole month pass with unlimited climbers and yoga classes.
I highly recommend this place or their many other locations.

Kinda wish they kept the lead climbing, but I mean, at least they expanded their bouldering territory and fixed the autobelays.

Smaller than the South Bay location, but it does have a room for yoga classes, which is also kind of small. The yoga class on Sundays 6:30-7:30p is VERY RELAXING. The parking lot is directly outside and the atmosphere of this long beach location is so therapeutic.
