Super fun place, I'm enjoying learning climbing.
Edit: one year in I'm hitting v3s consistently now, and I don't climb everyday. This place is BUSY I see a lot of the same people.. been to the San clemente one and they're both good.

Very cool place for climbing from 3yr old to adults. We tried the upstairs that has the safety strap and helps you slowly come down without anyone holding a rope for you. Which was great ππΌ
Take some snacks and water with you for the kids.

I've been intermittently climbing at Hangar 18 and have been going between the Orange location and the Mission Viejo one. I really enjoy the Mission one for a multitude of reasons. The gym is smaller here, but the community feels more tightly knit together. The walls scale up a good distance while still providing a unique feel and climbing type for every different wall. They've recently been adding World Cup weeklies, which have been a blast to do. They use the v-rating system as opposed to the color system, which I feel helps narrow down the difficulty of a climb so you can be more accurate with your time. Overall, Hangar 18 has an amazing community of climbers. The staff is super helpful, and the day passes are affordable. Definitely check out Mission's gym if you're in the area.
Update: Came back today after a month+ long break, and this place is still good! They've added some new staff members that are nice as always, and the routes seem to be getting more interesting too! Definitely not as packed as a few other climbing gyms I've been to while still offering top-quality climbs!
Update 4/2/24: Google wants me to update my review, but since it's only been a few months since my last review. Nothing has changed, but it has gotten a bit more busy here with lots of new climbers. It's not a bad thing, but it is definitely more packed than before. Still not as packed as the orange location.

Good setting. Leans towards the endurance side. Walls are not textured so you can't smear, but not a big deal. My only dealbreaker is that it needs more fans or maybe AC, it could get really hot in the summer. They also need a legitimate area to downclimb for climbs that top out because sometimes there are people climbing immediately next to the "ladder". The wall could be cleaner.

Fun place to climb, friendly cool staff except the billing department........ i cancelled my membership in April, got email confirmation; And they just started charging me again last month..... I know small businesses are struggling but stealing from past members is just dirty and unethical.

Great place for climbing. The staff is friendly and helpful. Give you proper orientation and instruction before first session.
You can even go with friends to spend couple hours on climbing. Itβs fun. If you are climbing for first chalk your hand well or wear tape on fingers to protect your skin. Donβt over do or you would peel your skin.

The least pretentious gym I've ever belonged to. π This gym has none of those extra flourishings like yoga or a sauna or slacklining - it's just bouldering and I love it!!! Great route-setting, great staff, much cheaper than any other gym I've belonged to ($18 first month membership on Tuesdays, includes a guest pass every month). A section of the gym is reset every Thursday. Membership gets you into any Hangar18 facility.

Inexpensive and lots of v0-4 routes good for beginners. No rings, very little training equipment, and the walls are smooth instead of textured thus discouraging flagging and other important footwork.

I just joined this gym. ( Mission Viejo branch) I can see myself getting in much better shape here. Holds are clean, I think they set new routes regularly, the place is small but lots of diversity in the range of difficulty. And the routes are easily distinguishable. I think it cost me $24 without shoe rental, if I remember correctly.

Horrible experience, the guy at the front was rude, ando not helpful. I was told by a neighbor about this place and was really excited to take my son. Once we arrived we were completely let down. The guy spoke to me like I was incapable of understanding him, then told me I was short and I would be holding my son while he was climbing. Such a let down. We will stick with where we receive good customer service!

The staff was friendly and there was a cool atmosphere among the obvious regulars hanging out there. The routesetting seemed to be on point and I definitely enjoyed climbing most of the routes I did very much. Some guy brought his dog in to hang out, too, which was pretty cool.
On the other hand, the holds were filled with chalk and slippery- it doesn't seem that they switch routes a lot. The place is also very small, feeling crowded with just around 10 people in the gym. No showers like a lot of gyms have.

There are many fun routes set up, but most of the holds are grimy. The dates that the routes were set did not match up with the build up on the holds. I loved the strength workout space that you have to climb to access.

The routes are good, they utilize a small space very well, but the gym is extraodinarily dirty. Even for a climbing gym. There are dust bunnies in all corners where the wall meets the ground, every hold need to be cleaned, and there is chalk on everything.

By far my favorite of all the Hangar 18 locations. Bouldering is top notch, with varied bouldering-only terrain for climbers of all abilities. Cleaner than most locations with setting and padding that are top notch; only what you can expect from the best of Hangar 18.
