About the Club

HBI Strength Lab is the area's only, non-profit gym catering to athletes, individuals with busy schedules, neurodivergent individuals needing a quiet, consistent place to train and community center with open gym hours, no membership required [conditional with no-logo gym clothing, or wearing HBI Strength Lab apparel]. Open gym hours are subject to change, but generally run Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The operator of the gym, Dave Murphy, has 11 years of powerlifting competition experience, 22 state, 2 national and 5 world records in the IPL and WRPF, has helped others achieve another 110 similar records. The gym offers a unique velocity based training (VBT) program for achieving peak performance as well as injury prevention programs.

HBI is absolutely amazing! From day one, the program was tailored specifically to fit my schedule, goals, and lifestyle. The level of personalization and support is truly next level. I started training with Dave last year and already impressed with the progress I’ve gained in the past months. His training is top notch and the gym itself has a comfortable and safe atmosphere. I used to hate working out due to anxiety. However the gym has a cozy family atmosphere that makes working out a blast. I participated in my first meet and had so much fun! I am excited to take my training to new heights. This is the best place for beginners or those who are a bit shy in the gym to train. Dave is an amazing coach who listens and will help you reach your goals.

I started my powerlifting journey with David back in 2015. I had recently changed my course from bodybuilding style workouts to having a greater desire to lift heavy. Coming from knowing very little about powerlifting Dave was wonderful at explaining the process, form and proper technique of all lifts and competition rules. I appreciate that he can always thoroughly explain why he's programming something and have research and data to back it up. The results have really been the validation for me.

Since starting with Dave, I have competed in 5 USPA Powerlifting events and have taken golds from each. My first meet total was 661 pounds with wraps and my last meet my total was 925 pounds raw. I'm looking forward to the privacy and focus of using HBI Strength Lab to prepare for my next competition scheduled for the end of this year. If you are a new lifter or experienced lifter that is looking for serious improvement, I highly recommend Dave and HBI Strength Lab.

I have been in the gym for about 5 years now. Just kind of figuring things out on my own for about four of those years. I have been working with Dave for, about 9 months now, maybe a little bit longer. The progress and strength gains. I have seen since starting with him, has been huge. I see muscle definition in my bicep, and my shoulders. I see fat loss and shape in my ass.
