Best gym in the area. I’ve jumped around trying to find the right gym for me and my fiancé, and look no further, this is the one! They have an indoor AND outdoor pool, massage chairs, sauna room, lots of classes to participate in, and many machines and amenities! it also feels less packed and more private and personal than many other gyms i’ve been to. also, i get to bring a guest every day and attend any In-Shape in the area! Staff is also very kind and supportive.

I had a great experience at this gym for it being my first time at this location! The Inshape staff were very friendly and helpful. I didn’t even have to ask to show me around the gym. They were quick to take the time to show me around and made sure to tell me to have a great workout. Lastly, even when I was leaving they made sure to ask How was my workout. 3rd time this month that one of the day care personel leave early at 1830 and then limits parents from this feature. I understand 1 time because of emergency but 3 times, man I used to love this gym but I guess its time to look somewhere else, perhapz chuze fitness. Good morning,
I am following up in my previous review of Onshape fitness center at the California avenue location.
First I gave a two star, instead of one atar because it seems like the gym is gradually making much needed repairs. Cleanliness when I am at the gym has gotten better.
A few things the gym staff could work on that would go a long way and will cut down on the negative feedback is:
1. At 4 am make sure the facility is ready for members to train and recover. Its not acceptable to tell me the Jacuzzi is down because it failed a PH test at 4am; and further explain the jacuzzi was shut down the night before the same reason.
A broken pump is a good reason to close a Jacuzzi not because the worker the night before failed to do his part to keep the jacuzzi working. It feels like a lack if consideration on the gyms part to keep things open.
2. Supervising the steamrooms
To many people go into the steamroom with their dirty outside shoes. Its disgusting! Another thing the Gym allows ecential oils to be used in there steam rooms, not taking into account people with sensitive allergies!
I would consider these things before joining a gym you use daily.

First let me state, we have a multi person membership, which we use mostly for the convenience of the showers.
And most importantly the STAFF is WONDERFUL.

With that said,
Since my last encounter with manager of the location things went downhill. It was dirty and we could not use part of the facility due to always being broken or locked due to a incorrect repair to a door handle. Also most the soap dispensers were ripped out of the wall for almost 3+ weeks. The soap company gives those for free so you will continue the soap purchases. Manager changed I brought this to his attention and was told it would get corrected. Since then it has become worse the door is falling off it's hinge, wont close correctly or lock correctly. This is not good for a bathroom and shower room. The place has not got cleaner. the water doesn't stay hot or get hot on some occasions. especially in the front showers. There is trash in shower stall in the morning and the same trash at night. See Photos. Please note these photos are all taken at various times and of multiple stalls. you can also see the broken dispensers all at the same time 3 of 4 stalls.

I have been swimming at Inshape Bakersfield since they openned a location on Coffee road almost 20 years ago. I have seen many managers and programs come and go.
I switched to the California avenue Inshape location about 10 years ago because their pool facities were consistently on point! Everything was clean; the pool was very well maintained, the sauna and jacuzzi were a at perfect temperatures. And I always felt reassured if something broke it would get solved in a reasonable amount of time.
Unfortunitly I am here to report for many weeks the bathroom has been closed in the pool area. And more often then not the pool or jaccuzzi is down. It does not appear the motivation to make the necesarry repairs timely are present! The gym staff themselves are friendly and helpful, but the REPAIRS need more urgency; as much as verifying my account is current each month! I could use a darn credit because now I have to pay elsewhere to use a pool.

The best part about the gym was the sign special the $1 to start. Great gym if you’re looking for classes or cardio.( there’s lots of cardio machines). I wasn’t impressed, I purchased the membership to workout indoors. It felt like the a/c was still on high from the summer, which made me shorten my workout time. Also the sauna wasn’t very hot. For me, I just feel like the gym isn’t worth paying $40 a month in Bakersfield

I’ve been coming for years and it’s always clean with friendly staff. Recently had to switch gyms because they previously had a women only section which originally made me get an account. It made me feel safe and protected, but t’s now open to everyone and it’s intimidating and very uncomfortable.

Update as of June 20th.

Part 1 of 2: black mold appears to be infested in sauna room. Pictures added.

Part 2 of 2 Staff finally put a sign up to stop the mens emergency locker room door from opening up where then people could see directly into the men’s locker room as they changed.

May 30th 2024 - update.

Be careful walking by the security door on the left after walking past the check in counter. This door is never kept locked and if someone opens the door up to wide then you will see dozens of naked men changing in the locker room.

I now make sure that I’m not in the line of sight when changing because people who leave the locker room tend to swing the door wide open.

I notified front staff, staff supervisor, and maintenance persons about the the poor state of the facility.

Maintenance told me they wait for the rubber bars to fall off completely before repairing them because it’s too hard to do routinely.

The central fitness area for core workouts never have matching weights where they belong and have heavier weights from the heavy lifting area instead of the lighter weights.

Front staff told me they just let people misplace the weights and it’s not in their agenda to ensure the weights match where they belong.

Sauna room is disgusting as well. It won’t ever get a high enough temperature because the door is not insulated.

I've had Inshape for almost 10 years. I love how all employees are so friendly checking us guest's in, of course some more than others especially the white lane inshape, their staff is always so nice. And when my little girl attended the kid zone at white lane inshape she loved the workers in there. I love the classes, I love the variety of classes. All the instructors have a different way of doing the classes and i love that! Inshape has something for everyone!
The parking at times can be a pain depending when you go to Inshape. Also I don't like how monthly prices have been increasing since covid.

I like the location because it is convenient.
I chose to enroll in this membership because of the various locations. The sauna amenity is the majority of the reason why I like in shape. This location has maybe the worst sauna of them all. It often smells bad and temperatures are really low compared to the others. The max I’ve seen is like 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Compared to some of the others it hits 170. Management please try to focus this area of improvement. This would increase the rate I come to this location compared to all the others. Thank you

We have been In- Shape members for over two years and we recently started going to the California Ave location and the atmosphere is so vibrant!

Management is always friendly, courteous and professional. The environment has a motivating staff from the minute you walk in!

What sets this gym apart from other locations, is its cleanliness, and the open space concept (accessibility & inclusive) which is perfect for our daughter who uses a wheelchair.

Their state of the art equipment caters to all fitness levels, which helps our daughter feel confident, safe and motivated to workout at this location. The pool and massage chairs are also nice amenities post workout!

We love this location, there is something for everyone regardless of where you are at in your fitness journey! We highly recommend the California Ave location, the sense of community gives us something to look forward to daily!

I can't believe what I'm about to say, but an employed of the Gym in the California location just threatened me that if I don’t get out of the sauna he will call security even tho it was not closing time yet. After my workout I was walking to the sauna and the employee didn’t allow me to close the door, I was very confused, I asked why and he said these are the rules here with a huge attitude and tone. He didn’t take the time to educate me or explain, I been a member with In-Shape for years and I have never heard that the sauna closes 15minutes before the gym. So I thought this guy just wants to kick people out so he can go home early. So I asked him can you show me where it says that and thats when everything went wild. That’s when the security comments come in and he mention to talk to the manager but not wanting to give me the managers names, oh and he took of his name tag when I was asking him questions. All of this was happing while he had me follow him outside the of the pool & sauna area. once I got out of the area I saw another employee and I appreciate him for help with my questions because I was super confused and humiliated. This other employee was incredible nice, explained to me why they close that area early. He let me know when and times I can see the managers if I had more questions. he also gave me their names. It was like a day and night experience. I totally appreciate that he took the time even tho it’s a very uncomfortable situation. I’m not upset that In-Shape has to set some kind of rules in the gym for their operations, but maybe having a sign somewhere, so we don’t have to deal with a situation where the employee does not know how to explain So we don’t get humiliated or threatened. I hope In-Shape does something about it and this doesn’t happen to anyone else, it feels horrible.

I love zumba, and the California In-Shape is one of my favourite places to try. Staff are very friendly, the instructors leading the zumba class, have been very welcoming and motivating. I love this gym! The kid zone is great and makes it so I get my me time for a little bit. My baby especially loves Cindy. They offer a wide variety of group classes with knowledge and motivational instructors. They have a great lap pool, steam room, and sauna. I was very impressed by the kindness of the employees when I first arrived. Two in particular. I believe their names were Eric and Kevin. Eric was very clear and concise about payment options and Kevin took me on a tour and when I asked about cold therapy he immediately got on his phone and researched locations in Bakersfield, despite receiving no direct benefit in doing so. Trainer talk me into buying personal training sessions. I didn’t use them all up and the Trainer said I wouldn’t lose them and a year later i dont have any left. I call the main office and they said i lost them since I didn’t use them and i dont get any money back and they wont give we a copy of the contract so dont go here there all about the money not for there Customer. I needed to exercise before a hernia surgery on March 14, 2021. I walKed into In-Shape to begin my fitness goal. After my hernia surgery, I , begin my fitness goal. I returned to see my doctor. Five weeks later my hernia surgery healed great . My doctor couldn’t believe how fast I recovered. I returned to Inshape to followed up on my fitness goal and helped me lose 50lbs jogging on the treat meal, practicing soccer skills inside a racket room. It’s now enjoyable, an addiction for me to exercise everyday. Inshape and a swimming pool is a great way to make new friends, and stay healthy.
