Recently moved from the LA area to Bakersfield and came across a few gyms. I decided on In-Shape because of its workout machines selections, cleanliness and friendly staff. The Riverlakes location specifically is a great sized gym with plenty of options for your workout needs. Highly recommend.

The staff is amazing and the gym is nice, the app needs improvement and a couple of members that attend are bad apples. After my morning workout I like to use hydro massage bed. When I arrived to the gym and checked in the front desk showed me how to make an appointment on the app “reservation” as they call it. I made a reservation for 10:00am and when I came back to the front desk they stated that someone was on the bed and to please wait, which I did. After getting about 5 minutes into my massage some rude, entitled, and impatient man came and interrupted my time by stating that he an appointment at 10:30. I tried to explain to him the situation and he said well it must have been “double booked.” I politely told them to have a good day folks and left the gym. This is not the experience I want to deal with attending a gym. I am not one to welcome confrontation, so I chose to go on about my day. I am newly re-joining In-Shape after being with Planet Fitness, which I am still currently a member with. It looks like I’ll be making a decision which one to stay with permanently. I called to speak with Paul the GM and he wasn’t in and I was told that he would be calling me back tomorrow, so that I can explain this situation to him.

Love the gym. Im kinda disappointed they took all the rags to wipe machines away. They have little ones now pre soaked. Very few have to walk there then back to throw away. Alot of people not even cleaning now. Pls go back to having the rags and spray bottles.

Treadmills are always broke good luck getting one if it’s busy. Been a member for about six months and during that time I’ve maybe seen all the treadmills working once. For the last 3 months out of eleven treadmillls on the top floor five are working. Things don’t change might be changing gyms.

The Barr Fusion and Body Balance classes at Riverlakes are excellent. The instructor is very knowledgeable and progresses from warm-up to variations at different levels. The finish is extremely relaxing and restorative.

Great experience every time I go in. Greeted warmly by staff, and other gym goers are friendly. Gym is kept clean and any mess is quickly cleaned up. Plenty of cardio and weight machines, very little having to wait on other gym goers to finish with machine. Overall a great experience!

Customer Service (5) = Sammy gave me a tour and this individual had a deep knowledge of the company, the equipment, kindness in their words, and an anticipation of my wants in a gym. If the rest of the staff is indicated by this individual, it's to tier
Quality (5) = They have everything you want if it's just weights, but if you're looking for a pool, possibly hot tub and things of that nature this location doesn't, but other locations do have it.
Overall it's a great place and I would encourage anyone to give it a month check out since it has a 1$ start up fee!

Be aware!
If you ever forget your password, you might be blocked for 90 days. Unblocking a customer from their system shouldn't be that difficult. Actually, I never heard you need to wait 90 days. It is very inconvenient for the customer to tell the front desk to log in when entering the gym facility.

A very well kept gym, with good quality equipment and a motivating atmosphere. My children absolutely love the Kidzone. My son has autism, and the staff have been so kind and welcoming to him, and make him feel comfortable that he wants to go to the gym. The staff is top notch!

Beautiful gym, excellent amenities. Very clean. Pleasant staff. The child care was at limit when I went to drop my daughters off. The general manager saw that and he walked into Child Care so that there would be enough workers in there for the amount of children. He interacted with his staff, as well as the customers so professionally. Danny was his name. I am super impressed with this gym.

Eroleen in the kid’s zone is amazing!! We stopped going to another gym because the staff there was not very friendly with kids and the kids no longer wanted to go. Now we come to this location and the kids get so happy to see Eroleen every time. She always has a smile on her face and is very sweet and loving to kids. Our kids even force us to go to the gym(even when we don’t want to), so needless to say we are very satisfied with the kid’s zone thanks to Eroleen! Gyms need more employees like her.

Been coming for more than 10 years with the family. Finally got sick of watching 7 out of 14 tvs on msnbc. There’s 1 on Fox and another that is partially blacked out that’s not working properly. The rest are on cnn, Spanish channel, etc. I’d like to watch some of the political coverage on Fox, had the wife ask if they could put one tv on Fox in the back row since 4 are on msnbc. Told her we don’t have the remotes, there’s one at the front of the gym if you want to see it. Well how did they all get on msnbc? You’re in the most conservative county in the state! Probably 3 long term memberships switching to new gym. Will give them a chance to find a remote, wife sent complaint to management and corporate.

In-Shape Riverlakes is awesome! I am 76 years old and had never joined a gym before. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They listened to my concerns as an older woman and a staffer showed me around and made excellent recommendations. I am loving my workouts! I must say that In-Shape Coffee Road, closest to my home, was not at all helpful which sent me to Riverlakes.

The Bakersfield Riverlakes location is my favorite gym in town. It is always clean and the staff is always helpful and friendly.

The oswell location is the worst Inshape I have ever been too. Extremely dirty gym, staff generally ignores everyone except for a few of the guys. The GM seems to not care about his location in terms of cleanliness. One of the most friendly staff members there is their mechanic. The Oswell location needs some corporate attention.

I was in town visiting family and I needed a gym. The staff went out of their way to take care of me!
The gym itself is huge, great equipment, and more cardio than any gym needs however their weight area is TINY! We are talking one that’s right one adjustable bench and that area is packed all day. I come in twice
A day and there are always people waiting.
I think the layout is pretty standard for a chain gym but with the amount of square feet they could have a better weight area.

Inshape what a rip off. Made a past due balance payment in full to bring the account to current only to find out after the fact that they cancelled my account. They charged me for a whole month to which I didn't have access and waited until the date of my annual membership in the same month to bill me for the membership of 85.00 then cancelled my account. When asked if I can get my membership fee back they said sorry nothing they can do. So why bill me a membership fee if you are going to cancel my account, it's shady business tactics like this that don't serve your business.
