Giving this gym 1 star. I used to love this gym. The staff is great, but equipment is outdated. This gym needs to replace all the old equipment, especially the deadlift platform in between the squat racks. If EOS can open new gyms with new equipment, In-shape can definitely afford to replace all the old equipment with newer ones. I'm on the edge of canceling my membership.

EVERYTHING! The customer service staff,the equipment,the cleanliness, the fact that you got a sauna and a steam room,the beautiful pool with the reservation option(where my daughter can swim all happy and without anybody getting on her lane.),the jacuzzi.,the pink room,the sound from the classes that are being held while we are in there.Which we wish to attend in the future.I love the 3 tier guest system you got.That's so wonderful,because I can work out together with my daughter and her best friend,too.I love the easy way to check in.I love how your staff is so friendly and helpful each time we had any question. I i was a member at this gym for 8 years, never in a million years would I have dreamt anything like this would have ever happened to me at that gym, new owners came in new members came in and about a year ago I noticed some people starting to provoke me, trying to make me angry and lose my temper, I have been suffering with severe spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis degenerative disease and herniated disk and my spine, getting ready to have cervical spinal surgery. I needed this gym more than ever now to swim to relieve my pain, they decided to make app lies about me, saying I was a racist and they canceled my membership on September 22nd 2020 5 I have been in debilitating pain since and still in shock over what they did.I have had multiple conversations with management supposedly.Gabriel Annie says he can't do anything because corpus already made up their mind.I would be very careful about going to this gym.What you say?Who you say it to and how you say it.It's a great gym but the people who are there now are very questionable

Not understanding some of these reviews. This gym is always clean and well ventilated, (Doesn’t have that gross gym smell at all!!) It’s well lit, has good equipment, Isn’t overly crowded. The vibe is friendly and upbeat. The room for classes is large and well ventilated also so you don’t feel like you’re suffocating in the summer months. It has good sound system and great mirrors. Members are diverse and friendly, and the staff is always friendly. And the personal trainers are super professional and dedicated. I’ve been a member for a number of years and recommend to all my friends.

This gym used to be well managed, not so much anymore. Weights are everywhere, not enough benches, cleaning supplies are often empty, a bunch of guys workout in groups and occupy the equipment for long periods of time. Time to checkout Purefit Athletic gym.

On August 7, 2025 I called Crystal (assistant manager) to follow up on a refund from May 4, 2025 that we talked a week prior and asked me to call her back if i did not receive my refund for personal training. I was placed on hold a call for approx. 38 minutes, then Nathan answered and said that Crystal would not handle this even though she asked me to follow up directly with her and she had left for a 90 minute lunch break. He refused to hear what i was saying and wanted to start the entire transaction again. i got very upset that i had given all that info to Crystal. He got very loud and mean as i got loud as well, but not hostile like him.
I am a prime member for years and pay each month $41.88 each month. had been using the Personal Training for a while with Albert ( moved to the weekends) and Alon and he left and I haven't received a third trainer. Gilbert who is the current manager i was told that he is on leave.
Not sure if i will continue with In Shape anymore. The previous manager Ryan was great. Always saw him and said hello and always working the floor. Since Ryan left the place is subpar and unfriendly.
Having your management like Crystal is an embarrassment to In Shape. Update: corporate conformed that refund has been processed.

I came back to rejoin In-Shape, a gym I genuinely loved. I had trained there before, felt comfortable, and was excited to return. But that excitement turned to disappointment the moment I stepped through the door.

The front desk staff member who handled my registration was shockingly unwelcoming. From the start, he made it clear he didn’t want to be bothered. No eye contact. No smile. No effort. Every question I asked — especially about the cancellation policy — seemed to annoy him. I wasn’t being difficult. I was being a responsible customer, trying to understand what I was signing up for. His energy? Dismissive. Cold. Like he couldn’t wait to get rid of me. And when I tried to wrap things up politely, he refused a simple fist bump and said, “I’m a germ freak.” It was humiliating.

Feeling confused and frustrated, I approached a manager named Nathan, hoping for clarity — or at least basic human understanding. Instead, I was met with a wall. He listened, but barely engaged. There was no apology. No empathy. No accountability. Just a robotic, “I’m not going to discuss how we handle this,” as if I was out of line for speaking up about being mistreated.

Let me be very clear: this wasn’t just a bad interaction — it was a moment that made me question why I’d ever want to come back to a place I once cared about. As a returning member, I should’ve felt welcomed and valued. Instead, I left feeling disrespected and dismissed — not once, but twice.

And here’s the truth: this isn’t about one employee having an off day. It’s a reflection of a larger problem — one that starts with who you choose to put at the front desk and how you train your leadership to handle feedback.

Hire a customer service specialist ?!
No, seriously — invest in someone who can train your team on how to treat people. Because if this is how you handle loyal returning members, then it’s not just the vibe that’s broken — it’s the culture.

This went from one of the best Gyms to the MOST Filthy in the last year…
I’m not a complainer, but this has become a major Health Risk. Letting showers and bathroom stalls to months without being cleaned is dangerously unhealthy and unacceptable. This is one of the most expensive Gyms in our valley, and to have no one cleaning except for one part time old lady is a sign of VERY NEGLECTED MANAGEMENT. I am very disappointed in the decline of this gym, they clearly need a new management structure

Really liking this gym the kid center make a huge difference in me making it to the gym! If they would just change the guest policy I don't mind paying but I don't want to have only one assigned guest! This is a very solid, if unglamorous, chain gym. It has far more amenities and services than most other gyms in the country. Cleanliness, device maintenance, new machines, class options, lighting and good design are all first class. Bring your own padlock and towel. Prices are really fair. Pretend the steam room doesn't exist; it's the only area overdue for a renovation. Otherwise the hot tub, pool and sauna are perfectly fine though.

The Cathedral City InShape facility is a wonderful experience as a large open space gym; light comes in, there is casual space to rest, to prepare, there is an ambience unlike other gym facilities I have attended.
Then the people who work there extend that ambience as you move about and work out, you feel welcome, at ease, easily assisted if need be.
The Trainers that used to be present were one of the great features of InShape here.  I hope they come back.
The pretty Manager is a bright, always working spirit too!

When I have been able to workout,  I have stayed Healthy in mind and body and spirit.
When all the gyms were closed, I truly deteriorated. Confining exercise to my home space was not working, most especially during the months of being confined to indoors because of the impossible heat here in the Coachella Valley.
Whenever InShape or another gym would open up for a few weeks, it was like finding . . . Water in the desert!

Since I moved to Palm Springs I was trying to find a gym that was cohesive to my schedule and training needs since I don’t go to the gym very often. I went to four different gyms until I found in shape family fitness.. The staff is friendly and helpful. The gym is clean. My personal trainer Albert knows what he is doing, he cares about your health and fitness needs and explains the equipment, its purpose, how to use it properly and how it helps the body. The clientele is just an awesome mix of different types of folk. It's very diverse, as is the City of Cathedral City, and it's just a welcoming atmosphere. It's air-conditioned. The gym is clean. Plenty of space, machines, weights. My fave is the kid zone. My daughters (3,6months) loves it there, and the staff. I love that they love it because that means momma gets an uninterrupted 30-45 minutes of workout time. And i can go twice a day! My sis added my daughters and me to her family plan which include my neices and nephews. There are 8 of us on that plan lol. And we are all on our way to a faster, stronger body. 💪

My rates have been doubled in the last in three years. There's been nothing done to the club that warrants that. I have been a member for ten years. The manager Nathan is useless. He walked right past me after one of the trainers asked for him to speak to me. He decided it was time to go home. It used to be better under the old management. Before, there was excitement with employees saying "Hi" in passing, giving a high five, etc.. there's a few pairs of kettlebells, but only one 35 lb kettlebell, no jump ropes anymore. All easy fixes if they do a monthly inventory. The employees behind the desk now never look happy to be there, never really greet you, or say goodbye, not that they need to, but it would be nice. Fitness is not just physical but mentally and emotionally, too

This is my original email to the CEO of in-shape fitness, in Cathedral City, California.

Hello Mr. Rothbard.
I writing you because I need your help in canceling my membership fees due in the amount of $172.33.

I don't feel that I am liable for these fees, since I attempted to cancel my membership via telphonically. I called the 1st time on or about February 6, 2023. I spoke to your front desk. I was told that all cancelations had to have a conversation, and be approved by a manager. My reply was fine, may I speak to your manager, I was informed he was not available for a call. I left a message included my name, and telephone number, for a return call. No call returned. On February 7, 2024 I attempted my 2nd call. I was able to reach a manager by the name of Ryan. My question to him was about the notification of the additional fees coming out of my account. I informed him that I was unable to pay this amount, as I am having financial issues at this time, and could he please stop the automatic payment, as it had not processed yet. Ryan told me that this request would not be possible. I said you have the ability to stop the process, since it would not be leaving my account until the following week. He advised me that my only recourse would be to stop the payment at my bank. I said well I'll do that and probably terminate my membership, mind you I have not used the facility in almost (2) years. The bank stopped all payments for the inshape facility. My original plan was not to terminate my contract, as I loved the facility, and all of the amenities, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I've just had a rough few months. On February 24, 2024(1) call made left message for Ryan, for a return call. February 26, 2024 (4) calls made to Ryan, left messages for a return call. No return calls received. March 3, 2024 called and spoke to front desk requesting to speak to anyone who can cancel my membership, and all fees due. The person at the front desk stated I can cancel your membership. However, you will still owe the $172.33. No, I have been trying to cancel my membership, making several calls, leaving several messages, to no avail.
Therefore, please remove these fees. The membership was canceled, I was also advised that even though the membership was canceled, the fees would still be accruing until April 1, 2024, and I should feel free to use the establishment.

Mr. Rothbard, I am thoroughly unhappy with this action. I've told your staff member that I could not pay the fees, yet he terminates the contract, and advises me to feel free to continue to use the facility until April of 2024, since I'm going to be billed anyway....

At this point, Mr. Rothbard as I've stated before, I would greatly appreciate your help in canceling these fees.
As of the date, March 18. 2024. There is a remaining balance of $99.97 that I am requesting to be canceled as well. As this was the initial cancelation request.

Great staff. Equipment is nice. But the peak hours it's tough to get parking, a locker, equipment, etc. They have plenty of space to rearrange and add more machines, expand the locker rooms, less treadmills, kid care seems scarcely used, etc. I hope they continue to improve.

The gym is clean, the equipment is in good condition, and is available for use most of the time. There is a good selection of free weights, workout stations/equipment/TRX, a quick workout circuit area, treadmills, stairsteps and ellipticals, a nice big pool for laps and aerobic exercise, group class room, and a kids zone for kids. People do tend to use popular equipment a long time and sit between sets on their phones, and that is frustrating.

I went here to see what their memberships are and what they cost. It's a good facility, nice equipment but a limited amount. If the place gets busy, then you have to wait. Their memberships are on the pricey side.

There is no way that these reviews are accurate.
I had multiple bad experiences with actual club and staff.
If you are a straight ♂️ and want to use the .showers, 🤞good luck because it's predation time. Lockerroom wants to know why you don't want to take off your towel so they can check you out.
It's also a disappointment to see them use cash grab tactics . 5 days into month and you are on the hook for next month. I was lied to about this. The water fountain is nasty slow and warm so that you buy a bottle. The sauna overlooks the pool in a pervy way as well. So disappointing 😭.

I like the club and there are s lot of plusses but it’s really difficult to get the workout you want when they don’t replace broken equipment. Small stuff like balls. It takes persistence to have the non-working things removed and when they finally are, no replacements are offered. A couple of months ago you replied to my comment by assuring me my request would be handled. Nice words but where is the action? Also, you really need an attendant for the women’s locker room on the weekends.

The gym is fantastic, but what makes it so incredible are the staff members. They’re like family. They genuinely care, they all work, their butts off, and they’re friendly and professional simultaneously. In this review, I’d like to do a special shout out to Ryan, Anthony, the manager. I think I may have his last name wrong. he is always upbeat, extremely welcoming and friendly, and here’s the kicker… One day I wanted to buy a protein beverage, but there was nothing left in the cooler, and he actually offered me his own protein beverage that was going to be his lunch!! Seriously he got it from his desk and brought it over to give it to me. I was blown away. Of course, I said no, but the thoughtfulness was just over the top, and I want to make sure that he is acknowledged and recognized for his exquisite, heartfelt service.
