Title: Extremely Poor Service and Cleanliness at In-Shape Dover – Avoid This Location

I’ve been a member at In-Shape on and off since 2014, and unfortunately, the Dover location has become the worst of any In-Shape facility in this area — far worse than Suisun or any other location I’ve visited.

The steam room is never properly cleaned. It constantly smells, and maintenance is clearly being neglected. Members often complain about it, but nothing ever changes.

Today (around 6:15 PM), I had an interaction with an In-Shape employee at the front desk that was unacceptable and frankly unprofessional. I asked why there were no towels available — something that’s been an ongoing issue, especially on weekends — and was told the towel machine has been broken “for about a month.” That’s a lie. There were towels just a few days ago.

When I brought up the fact that I pay $85/month and towel service is part of the package, the employee dismissively said, “You don’t pay for towel service, you pay for this club only.” That’s misleading and absurd — towel service is clearly part of the membership I pay for, not an optional add-on.

It got worse: because I voiced my concerns about cleanliness, lack of towels, and poor service, this employee threatened me, saying the general manager Venus would be emailing me to terminate my account because I stayed a few minutes after closing. Apparently, enforcing petty rules is more important than addressing chronic problems like dirty facilities and false information about services. It felt retaliatory and incredibly unprofessional.

I expect better when I’m paying top dollar for a gym membership. The standards at Dover are below basic. Staff are disrespectful, the facility is unclean, and management seems uninterested in resolving ongoing issues. Avoid Dover location. You’re better off at Suisun or literally any other gym.

In-Shape has great amenities to get you moving, we enjoy the pickleball courts, equipment but we especially enjoy the multiple pools/jacuzzi’s. We love having a place to join classes and exercise. The staff is friendly and helpful! The location is great for me and my family, close to home 🙂

Referred a friend, through the In-Shape website. He signed up, however on the day he signed up, he forgot to give them my name. Two days later when he went in, he went to see the lady who signed him up, mentioned to her that I referred him. She told him its to late for me to get the credit for it...Huh? Longtime Member’s Perspective – Great Gym, But Recent Layout Changes Miss the Mark

I’ve been coming to this gym for years and have always appreciated the solid equipment, friendly staff, and overall vibe that makes it easy to stay consistent. It’s been a reliable space to train hard and see progress.

That said, the recent rearrangement of the barbell area and the preacher curl station just doesn’t make sense functionally. Instead of improving flow, it’s created an extra hassle—most of us end up hauling the bars back to the original section because that’s where the rest of the work happens. It’s inefficient and frankly a bit frustrating, especially during peak hours.

Also, the gym would greatly benefit from an additional adjustable bench. There’s often a wait, and for those of us on tight schedules, that’s not ideal.

I’m sharing this as a loyal member who genuinely wants to see the gym continue to be a top-tier training space. Hopefully these adjustments can be revisited with input from the people who use the space daily.

I really want to give this a 5 but they should really be open till 12am like vacaville inshape. But mostly it would be a 5 if they didn't turn off the steam rooms early. You close at 11pm the steam room should be open till 11pm. Alot of guys do the steam room at the end of there workout but lately they all have been walking into the steam room disappointed. Maybe you all have a new manager or are trying something different but this is disappointing cause I can't use this service anymore. Don't turn off steam room or sauna until closing maybe 5 minutes before closing. Alot of guys use it from 1030 to 1055 right before leaving. Thankyou. I can't wait till this is addressed and fixed then I'll change my review to something positive and give yall the 5 u deserved

Update: They fixed the issue with the steam room it's an issue with daylight savings. I'm not sure why it took so long to fix, but thanks now, the nightshifters can enjoy steam.

This place has really improved overall. They are adding new stiff frequently while fixing up old stuff. Things usually aren't broken for more than a day. They've been cleaning more and repainting. There are still items I would enjoy seeing, but I'm sure they will add those as they are adding new stuff frequently.i could see a big addition if things keep getting better here. My favorite amenities are still the daycare and the steam room. It would be really cool if they eventually get more like the Tracy inshape with multiple weight rooms, outdoor gym equipment, basketball, racquetball, and a kids swimming area but until then this is the best gym you will get near by.

No access to drinking water. Some dispensers do not work. Others flow very slowly and have a nasty metallic taste. This has been a problem for many years. Numerous complaints over the past 2 years - nothing has been done to fix it. Some machines need maintenance and repair. It has been a long time and they still do not work. The storage boxes inside are dirty and smelly. The locker room needs to be updated. I do not understand where the annual fees are going since nothing has been repaired for years. It seems that the health department should be looking into repairing the water dispensers.

I started going to this gym in 2022 and stoped in 2024. The gym is a bit crowded and popular machines are often out of service. 80 dollars a month for 1 person is a bit steep in my opinon. They also charge you an additional 30 days if you cancel. It's in their fine print, but regardless, this is a scummy practice.

I love the way staff greets you as you enter. Swimming program for kids is great. I love the staff in swimming pool and the patience with kids. They are miracle creators. We are beyond grateful for the swim coaches and Swim Coordinator, Angelisia! Our daughter started over a year ago and was beyond terrified after an incident prior to joining swim class. We could not get her off steps for awhile. However, after much relationship building, trust, consistency, and patience from the ENTIRE staff, our daughter has made incredible progress and is swimming! We honestly felt it was a whole team effort and victory! lol They have been gentle, loving, and soooo fun! Thank you to Alo, Sarah, Bri, Isabell and especially the cultured created by the Swim Coordinator. Swim class has become a safe place for our daughter and something we all look forward to weekly! This gym has brought myself and my family so much joy! Simply the best people go out of their way to make you feel so welcomed. Mary is the absolute best and a great pickleball coach. Every new member that joins her class gets all her attention until they need it. But the very best is the children’s room because without that I wouldn’t be able to head to the gym so often, every person that works there does a tremendous job, especially Angelisia she has been kicking butt setting up all these cool kids activities lately and so much more for the gym! Every time I see her she’s on her feet running around multitasking and giving it her all. Never have I joined a gym like this before and I absolutely love that I found this gym when I moved out here to Fairfield! Terrible experience going into the this gym. MARY aka KAREN was extremely rude to me and I was racially profiled. I had asked to start a membership in which Iam part of the local community and would be convenient to join..was looking forward to it. I had also asked to use the restroom and she violently said no and I had to be a member first..I which that was the plan. Iam extremely bothered on how I was treated and never greated nicely at this local gym. I will also taking a step to talk to someone In corporate because this should not happen to anyone else. This particular facility has mold in the men's locker room and in the cardio area has a strong sewer older. I bring it up to the front desk they didn't seem to care much. The weights were organized everything looks fairly decent. I decided to put on my swim trunks and go for a few laps in the pool only to notice algae buildup and a lot of miscellaneous trash throughout the pool. I will not be back to this location. It seems like poor facility management.

The locker rooms have an “L” shaped entrance. While I was walking out today, a man was walking in. We locked eyes, I was shocked and thought because of current events, this might be a situation. We passed each other and I turned back to watch him and he turned back to look at me. Two other other women were coming out behind me and crossed paths with him in the “L” and were shocked and jumped. The man, dressed in all black, grabbed the bin of towels in the corner and took them out laughing at all of us. Only after we all came out and looked closely, we saw his name tag. All employees there are wearing all black which many gym goers do so it’s hard to tell the difference. But male employees really should not enter the locker room at all even the “L” because women and little girls dressing or in swimsuits are often walking across the path which is visible to anyone in the “L.” Very disappointed that the man laughed and got a kick out of scaring and making multiple women uncomfortable. And at the time of this, when I left the Lockeroom and saw him coming in, there were children changing to go for a swim.

I’m a member at In-Shape and I’d like to have my mother join as well but she’s always hesitant about joining, I remembered day passes being a thing so I thought I’d call and ask; however, when I called and spoke with Mary - she had an attitude, her demeanor was horrible and it felt prejudiced.
I didn’t even finished my sentence when Mary cut me off to placed me on hold and when she came back on the call- her tone of voice was as if my questions were stupid or not worth her time.

I haven’t experienced rude In-Shape workers before, perhaps bad moments but nothing like this; usually they are friendly and their demeanor is always positive but this was just a disappointment. Specially when it is from a place that prides themselves in customer care and service but her attitude made me feel unwelcome.

We haven't actually gone in the gym yet. But decided to come back. Our biggest incentive was the child care options. We both work full time so this helps us have support to work out and bring our 5 year old. Only to find they are closed from 12 to 4 (which is the best time for me to go since I get home from work at 2pm) i am up at 3am for work and don't have all night to wait around. And cook dinner AND go to bed early enough to get good sleep. The biggest issue is the lack of availability I'm the kid zone. All week it's booked for the times we tried to choose. If you were open from 12 to 4 for the kids zone, maybe it would actually lessen the amount of people taking up time slots. Some of us actually work for a living and aren't stay at home parents and have the freedom of going whenever we feel like. The lack of support for families (definitely not what they advertise) is a huge disappointment. If this continues to be a burden I will reach out to the better business bureau. Also I will have my 5 year old on the floor with me while I work out. Paying nearly 200$ a month for a family of 4 and I can't use the kid zone? Shut your mouth if my kid is with me on the floor so I can get healthy again.

I was really disappointed with In-Shape yesterday. The outside whirlpool was out of service and the indoor one was disgusting. Members were on hand to scoop out the foam which had dirt and oil from other members who didn't shower before entering or had on oil or lotion. The dirt ring did it for me. It made for a very bad look. The condition was explained to employees however while i was there knowone came to address it. When you pay your membership fees you expect the equipment to be clean and ready for use. If this isn't the case what are we paying for. Get it together In-Shape.

So recently heard that this location is removing the outdoor gym which really upsets me because the membership fees have gone up ridiculously and the inside weight room is tiny! Gets pretty packed and not enough space. For the rates on these memberships we were told that the outdoor would be there to stay permanently!! I tried to call at 1:15 p.m. on a Wednesday to ask if In-Shape has special rates for Medicare patients with mobility issues and with a doctor's prescription . I selected #2 for new account information, then got a bunch unrelated pre-recorded information, then had to select "customer service" and then select "English." Then comes a voice saying that my estimated wait to talk to a service agent was over "45 minutes". I thought that can't possibly be for this one club on Dover Avenue. But sure enough, I waited and waited and finally gave up after 15 minutes. Reading all the reviews makes me wonder if it's worth going to this place. The responses to complaints by management are weak, namby pamby brush offs which do not give me any confidence that they are listening to complaints and really engaged in fixing any problems.

I have been a member for alittle less than a year. I have seen the place decline at a steady pace. It's upsetting not to be able to use the services you pay for. The jacuzzis have been working intermittently for the last several months. They generally are not hot as would be expected of jacuzzi. The indoor pool is freezing most days. Towels are a forever issue..they are rarely available and I am concerned about how clean they are. The facility is not very clean. I have stayed because I have made friends there. The staff are friendly and pleasant but for the money I expect the equipment to be maintained properly and in working condition. I have contacted the Corp. Office by phone the rep acted as if I created the problem. My emails to date have gone unanswered however, I was charged an annual fee and my payment gets deducted every month without issue. I would not recommend Inshape at this point. Today the swimming pool has been closed enough is enough I am calling to cancel first thing Monday.

The slow and steady decline of this gym continues. For over a month both hot tubs have not worked, the shower drains continuously backup so on and so fourth. I have attempted to contact the manager personally and they either are not at work of busy with something else. I have left roughly a dozen request both in person and by phone to be contact by the manager. As of this posting I have not heard work one back from them!!! The 2 stars is only because of the friendly and attentive staff, as well as the convenience of the location. For the past few weeks(a month or more), 3 of the treadmills have been non-operational. When I went in this morning, a 4th apparently has also just been deemed broken. The cardio equipment at another facility seem to all be newer and all functional; which is frustrating because the ones that keep breaking at this location are the only ones I prefer to use. But even barring that, on busy days/times like Saturday mid-morning, there's a shortage of treadmills because of these non-functioning machines. I am seeking management's attention to please look into this. I really like your gym, and would love to continue going to it.

I choose in-shape for the convenient location accessibility...BUT heaven forbid you need to make any changes to your account (I was attempting to change the account my payments were coming from, before my September payment is posted - my original account was shut down due to fraud).

I tried to call the main number....if you have more than 10 minutes to wait before speaking to a representative...go ahead....I have tried to call at different times of the day thinking it was a crazy call moment, but no.

I tried their online request for assistance for my issue.. I received an email telling me how I can make the changes in person, mail in or over the phone.

I just tried to go in to one of the 71 convient locations.....not convient at all since the manager was out to lunch (hes apparently the only one who could process my request), where the representative wanted to take down my number and he can call me. Which means I'll have to make another trip because the chances of him being able to process my request with out a signature is not an option.

Great gym, 2 pools, one indoor and one outdoor. 2 hot tubs, 9ne indoor and a large one out doors. Plenty of exercize machines, a TRX section. There is one area for circuit training, a back room for the heavy lifters. Variety, thats for sure. Aweso e staff, welcoming, friendly and helpful. I wish they had more private dressing rooms, only one in the ladies area. But several bathrooms and showers. The saunas and steam rooms are in the dressing rooms so no men in the ladies sauna and visaversa

Indoor pool & hot tub are not clean. Hair balls & grit in the pool. I asked one employee to remove hair ball that has been there a week. Still there! Hot tub stairs & sides are scummy looking. Needs a good scrub! Employee dumps a white powdery in the pool while people are swimming????
Place needs a cleaning throughout!

Always broken equipment and equipment on the verge of being out of service. Seems their maintenance is far from preventative but more of when it breaks only. Locker rooms are dirty often the floors don't hide anything. They could use more cleaning staff during the busy hours.
