It has what you need but seems like cleaning crew and maintenance staff is on strike. The place is gross. The air vents have layers of dust on them. Dust in sauna. Dust on all the machines. Pro's:
-Gym has most of the amenities you need for a solid workout.
-Members are nice, or at least not rude
-Most weights get re-racked
-Sauna is kept running

Con's:
- Dust/hair can be seen below, around, and behind machines and weights. Sometimes even vents and fans have visible dust caked on.
- TV's are small and/or not functioning
-Trainers do take up a good amount of space for the size of the gym
-Some trainers do not re-rack weights
-In-Shape corporate "customer service" is passive. As others have mentioned, they often don't reply.
-People walk into sauna with their workout clothes. Shoes included. Some will even stand on the bench with their gym shoes on. Pretty gross.

Suggestions to corporate:
- Change Trial passes - industry standard is 3-7 days. No need to give month trial passes - - it's usually trial members that leave trash, cans, or don't re-rack weights.
- purchase an industrial grade robot vacuum - let it vacuum when gym is closed.
- use ACTIVE Mold Stain remover in showers - gross to see black spots in grout
- only hire front-end staff willing to clean - don't need overhead just checking people in

Edit: they responded to this review and asked me to email them. When I talk to them further they just defended all the things they are doing. They are not looking to improve at all.

Ever since CFF was purchased by InShape it's gone downhill.

They changed a bunch of the classes and took away a lot of our favorites. They also are not true about their advertising, often listing classes on the schedule that the instructor doesn't teach and isn't certified in! Then when you go there to take the class, the instructor teaches a format that doesn't reflect the class description.

The hottub is often out of service and looks green, pretty gnarly.

Membership cost has increased and value has gone down. We used to get perks on our account, like points for attending classes and stuff, and you could exchange them for things. There used to be some cool options, like you could gift a free month to a friend using your points. NO more. Now, all the rewards are just silly items (backpacks, hats) with company logo on them. ugh.

Everything about this screams "late stage capitalism" and it's honestly really sad because I've been a member of here a long time and used to love it! Wish they didn't sell out to InShape :(

I love this gym. Sure it can be a little crowded and cramped. Sometimes I have to time when and where I walk so I don’t get hit or interrupt a set, but hey everyone is nice and chill. Every time I go the gym is clean. Plus having a hot tub, steam room, and dry sauna make it so much better and a great reward and after a hard work out. The price is just right for me too.

I've been coming here for years and it has gone downhill, especially since the ownership change. There is no longer child care offered at many of the Sacramento locations. Equipment is outdated and there are always a few machines broken. The pool shuts down randomly without notice, and when it is open often has one lane taken up by swim lessons at popular times. Meanwhile membership fees have only increased. The only draws are the location and the pool.

Im disappointed with my experience at this gym. They consistently fail to update members about facility closures through their app or email, yet they have no problem continuing to charge membership fees. I drove 20 minutes at 4:30 a.m. to use the pool and spa, only to find out they were closed without any notice. Additionally, the Alhambra location has persistent cleanliness issues and often smells unpleasant. This lack of communication and upkeep is unacceptable for a gym that prides itself on member experience.

I like that they have a wide assortment of things out in front lobby: food and drink and various items to purchase. This lobby is stocked more than any of the other In-Shape locations I’ve been to. The culture and atmosphere has a different feeling to it. They also have a table and chairs in the Ladies Room, along with some other add-ons I haven’t seen in iof the other gyms. There was even a girl who is handing out mango and strawberry smoothies as I was leaving.

Very disappointed in the current direction of the gym. I have been going to this gym for many years - before change of ownership - continued paying dues even during COVID shutdowns. One primary reason this that I was always able to bring my kids to the pool, or to racquetball courts. Two of my kids now play sports competitively because of the previous pro family policies. Recently, my last born who had also been using the facility was refused entry - no reason, no explanation- just that kid can’t be in the gym. In the rudest possible way. I was heartbroken, and suddenly found myself looking for options. The thing is -new management seems to be doing some good things -but there is definitely some pressure on employees that leads to some unpleasant interactions with clients in a way that I have not experienced before. The family part of the gym seems to be disappearing everyday, and there is no place to find any official change of such policies. My friends are complaining about similar issues. If I have reasonable option, I will be looking for a new home.

Cardio equipment, and weight machines tricep and , biceps, upper body chest, leg crunch, and inner thigh machines, all good updated and user friendly. Staff was helpful and nice. Can get pretty crowded sometimes but that’s my only complaint. The culture amongst members is super helpful and positive. If you need to use something you can ask “how many more sets left” and they’ll let you know; people are happy to share. I would ask for Nichole as a trainer, she upped my bench significantly with the program she gave me. Childcare at the Natomas location is intentional and loving, they know my child's name and my kid loves to go there. I’m extremely happy to pay this every month knowing what I get. For 137 dollars per month my wife, child, and I get so much value.

Really disappointed in this location. They claim to be family friendly but recently started banning children in their facilities. We have been coming to this gym for at least a couple years with our son to use the pool with no issues but today was turned away. First asking us if our son is a paid member, which he is and then saying if he was going to swim in the pool, he needs to be supervised by an adult at all times(both my husband and I were with him), and then another attendant came to tell us that any children altogether cannot be in the pool unless they are participating in swim school. It was heartbreaking to say the least to tell a 5 year old who has been going to this pool to abrupbtly leave. The staff also was not able to point to a written policy anywhere referencing that children are not allowed in the pool. I think it's unfair to be paying for a family membership, if not everyone in our family can utilize the facilities.

This club is constantly reducing services but maintains the same monthly fee. Staff comes up with policies that are no where to be found or posted. All targeting the reduction of service or increased in convenience while charging its customers the same if not more.
There is nothing about this location that is family friendly as kids are not even allowed in the facility.

There’s this saying, you don’t know the value of what you have until you’ve experienced something better. I moved here temporarily from Arizona. I can tell you first hand, that what you get for $65 at any In-Shape Family fitness location I visited including, Arden, K Street and Alhambra, you all are getting ripped off. The equipment is either old, cheap, and/or the gym over crowded, equipment placed in weird areas, or simply not enough equipment and have to wait to use the free weights or machines (Alhambra location). In the Alhambra location, the gym is over crowded, not enough weights and/or too many people in one area, even with early morning hours. You also have to hassle with parking at the Alhambra and K street location. For what you pay, it’s not worth it. Now for the sake of comparison, and why I write this review, is what we get for $9.99 at an EoS gym in Arizona (look them up), you get new state of the art facilities with strategically placed equipment, pool, sauna, cooling room, massage, outside gym area, green area for HIT exercises, and full shower and bath. Sure, it’s not California, but that’s the point. For what you pay here at In-Shape and what you get, it’s a sham and major disappointment. No worries, I move back to AZ in April and submitted my cancelation request. Unfortunately, there is no way of reaching someone to talk with at Corp to send my home address info to avoid their ridiculous cancellation fee. This company is a disaster…moving on. Good luck.

This review is for Sam and only Sam. This club does deserve its own separate review but that’s for another day. I’ve been coming to this club for years and Sam’s customer service has exceeded my expectations in the short time he’s been here. It’s so evident he cares about the club and its members. He greets, he cleans, he answers questions, he gives advice as needed, is there anything he can’t do? I was having a rough day and he was able to help me beyond what he needed and it really turned my day around. It really restored my faith. You can’t teach service like that, that amount of kindness was innate. Any member who comes consistently enough has had the luck of encountering Sam and I hope the team can take a lesson out of his book to keep the good vibes going.

Awful policies. Had my credit card updated and didn't go for 2 months. Charged $300 and sent collections without contact. They say they emailed me I never seen anything. Just seems like a poor poli
cy after being here for so many years. When I called I was trying to update my card and pay any outstanding bill. Even after this I didn't plan on leaving a bad review but then I spoke to the general manager. To add insult to injury the manager Gabby I think her name is wouldn't give me her name at first she said I do not need to give you my name and then I said I can just find it and then she decided to give it to me. Very bad on her end but she did do good at first and then just kind of lost it. Maybe more training but realistically it's the policy. She told me she has too many customers to pay attention to each one. If somebody's calling to complain you don't just talk over them. Hopefully the call is recorded and it will be listened to by upper management.
For the manager please understand that your customers are the reason that you are in business. Even if you have a million customers as you say.
Upper management reconsider your 60-day policy or try harder to reach your customers in the future.

I’ve been going here for years. It wasn’t until I accepted a guest pass at a friend’s gym that I realized I’m incredibly fed up with management’s acceptance of a dirty, disorderly gym. At the competitor gym (of the same price point), it was mid-day and they had a cleaning crew wiping down equipment.

This In-Shape location doesn’t encourage or enforce wiping down equipment, and they only seem to clean at the end of the night. They’ve taken away the wipes and replaced them with a few spray bottles and paper towels, which no one uses.

I complained that people who use the weights don’t re-rack their weights. The gym representative said “there’s nothing we can do.” I suggested they put up a sign encouraging it. It’s pretty basic stuff to make sure community members understand the rules.

It’s infuriating I’ve gotten this “there’s nothing we can do” response multiple times over the years. A gym is a community of members. Start enforcing In-Shape Family Fitness values of “inclusivity, community, wellness, and personal growth.”

And don’t get me started on the pool that is constantly closed.

I’m just not sure what I’m paying $75 a month for.

I twice asked employees of In-Shape in Alhambra to clean the fan. Unfortunately, no action was taken. FYI, be aware of the $300 ($175 for half the year) cancellation fee if you decide this gym is not the right fit for you. I have been unhappy with it for a while, but thought things would improve once in-shape family fitness took over. The machines are constantly out of order.

I am not opposed to paying a cancellation fee but this seems excessive. In my opinion they did not hold up their end of the contract and after the lack of customer service I will happily spend my money elsewhere.

When I tried to cancel my membership I was told by one of the staff to call back on the first of the month and I’d be able to cancel free of charge. I called and cancelled on Feb 1 and was told there would actually be a charge of $4 (one day of one month of a membership). A few days later I was charged $75 for the entire month of February. Called the staff and explained my predicament and they told me that they had recently hired a lot of new staff and I may have received the incorrect information, there was nothing they could do. Quitting the membership was a huge nightmare, staff are not properly trained.

Facilities themselves are fine. Main complaints being the rooms are a little dirty and muggy. Swim lessons in pool take up half the lanes.

There are 13 treadmills at this location. In the past 4 months that I have been a member, there's a constant story about how "maintenance is coming to fix them" and yet... "Out of order" signs have been posted and removed despite treadmills continuing to malfunction or literally fall apart. (Hello, lawsuit!) The other locations are so well-maintained, it makes no sense that the Alhambra location is so neglected even while so many members are complaining regularly.

Four years ago, I really liked this gym, but it's really gone downhill. The access to facilities is great, but everything else needs to be improved.

Pros:

Pool (when it's available), hot tub, sauna, steam room, basketball hoop, and court sports

Cons:

Machines are old and poorly maintained, so out of order signs are the norm.

Mirrors and floors are always dirty (and I will see the same piece of paper on the floor all week, so I know it's not getting cleaned).

The walls have been patched but not painted.

The women's locker rooms are awful. They are dirty and the lockers are locked open (so they can't be used). There aren't any towels or sufficient bathroom supplies anymore. They used to have towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and blow dryers. Now they have an all in one.

The customer service isn't great either. I signed up for personal training when I re-joined six months ago, and I'm still waiting on that call back.

I joined CalFit for the pool. It's great - when it's available. CalFit rents out up to two lanes (of four) to a swim school and that collides with times I like to swim. I just found out that they are closing the pool for 2 1/2 months so I decided to finally cancel. Despite finding out days before the closure, they are charging me for an additional 30 days saying that I have the option to go to another club. I'd be fine if they notified me a month ago of the closure by email, but no I just find the notice when I show up. CalFit holds your side of the membership agreement to a much higher standard than their side.

My one complaint for the price of membership is the closing time, it’s to early for an after work session Monday through Thursday, and the weekend hours are even worse! They try to make it look larger by turning the space into a maze with mirrors but I just feel like I’m at a fair mirror maze. I thought after 5-6 years of not visiting this one, they’d make some changes. Nope. Not sure where the membership fees are being spent at this gym.

I use the swimming pools at the Rocklin, Orangevale, and downtown locations. They all well maintained, water temp is perfect for lap swimming. Thanks calfit swimming pool maintenance team!

Been a member since 2002. Membership price has slightly increased yet nearly all facilities close 2 hours prior to COVID times. This makes it really unfair for workers who get off late. I've constantly asked staff of when they're going to go back to pre-COVID times which all don't give a definitive answer which comes off as a scam. Everything else is okay. PLEASE go back to old regular hours.

This used to be a health club, so it is very different from the typical gym chain. From brick walls to lower ceilings, it has a quaint and welcoming feel. Every workout area offers a lot of privacy too.

Ed Nichols is an excellent trainer! He's bright, very knowledgeable, makes the sessions fun And very individualized to my skills and goals. I honestly look forward to my training sessions. Although I’ve only been doing this for a very short time, I already feel a lot stronger and more coordinated. Great experience!

Great place to work out. Includes a lap pool. The men's locker room can be a bit scary with the lack of towels being worn to cover ones stuff.

Joining this gym was a great decision for me. I so enjoy going after work and playing basketball, taking fitness classes, lifting or swimming and hitting the sauna and hot tub. The atmosphere is really friendly and conducive to a great workout. The staff is incredible and I look forward to seeing them each time I come in! Clean and wonderful location. Can't wait for expanded hours and towel service to return.
