The Good: it’s a big gym, has plenty of space to work out and a lot of equipment, machines, free weights, racks, benches, etc.

The Bad: No gym etiquette enforced, people slam weights which breaks the machines, weights are all over the place whether it’s dumbbells or plates. People go around playing loud explicit music out of their personal speakers which is not very “family friendly” as the gym claims to be, which is not only annoying but uncomfortable. Gym employees are often more interested in socializing and flirting than doing their job.
The parking has homeless people often which makes it feel less safe.

Overall, it’s a decent gym but it’s very poorly ran. As a gym member I would like to see some enforcement of basic gym etiquette or safety rules, to make it a more welcoming environment for everyone. If you’re looking for an orderly, clean, organized gym where people follow basic gym etiquette, you’re probably better off looking elsewhere.

Great place for price but please please please make signs or fix the numbers on the racks so people can return weights to their proper place. I have to walk around the entire gym to find the dumbbells I need. First fix the numbering so we atleast know where they go.

I’ve been a loyal member of In-Shape for almost a decade, but I recently relocated to Salinas and started visiting this location in mid-2024. While I appreciate the spacious workout environment, I’ve noticed a decline in the gym’s overall quality.

One significant issue, as mentioned by another reviewer, is the cleaning standards. They replaced the rags we used to spray disinfectant with small wipes, but these wipes are often out of stock. Consequently, many machines remain unwashed, which is a major concern for maintaining hygiene. I rarely get sick, but I’m currently writing this review sick on my couch, upset since I haven’t interacted with any sick kids or other people. I just work out, get fit, go to work, and be at home.

Another issue is the inconsistency in cleanliness of the bathrooms. While some days they are clean, they are often not, which is a fundamental aspect of any gym environment.

I hope things improve, but for now, meh.

I’ve been coming to In-Shape Salinas since November 2023, and while I’ve made great progress here and appreciate the space for my workouts, I’ve noticed the gym has been going downhill lately.
One major issue is the cleaning situation — they removed the rags we used to spray disinfectant and replaced them with small wipes, but those are often out of stock. That means a lot of machines go unwiped, which isn’t ideal for hygiene.
Another concern is maintenance — when equipment breaks down, it can take weeks to get fixed. That’s frustrating when certain machines are out of order for long periods.
Lastly, the bathrooms are hit or miss. Some days they’re clean, but too often they’re not — and that’s something that should be consistent in a gym environment.
It honestly hurts to write this because I’ve had a lot of good sessions here and seen real improvements in my physique. I just wish the gym upkeep matched the effort we put into our training. Hoping things improve, but for now, it’s a 3-star experience.

Hi! I really appreciate the facilities and the environment here, but I wanted to suggest extending the gym hours beyond 11 PM. For those of us with late work schedules, 11 PM feels a bit early. A later closing time would make a big difference. Thanks for considering!

Got my stuff stolen from my locker at this gym. You got some thieves in the lockers, be careful who’s looking at you. Although the gym isn’t liable for the stuff, it seems like they don’t care since I brought this up twice. This happened a little over a month ago.

I am a new member also just started two months ago; this is just horrible. I thought I was upgrading here to a better gym. Very disappointed. I haven’t even visited since it happened on February 19. If I wasn’t under contract, I would’ve cancelled. Police report was filed to hopefully catch the thief.

I wish they checked the cameras cuz some adults don’t clean after themselves. There was an old man cleaning with his own sweat. The service is good. I come sometimes twice a day and I’ve been loosing so much weight. Most customers can be friendly and a few can be rude. I like to surround myself with happy persons.

The worker who is working the front desk around 8 o’clock on March 5, 2025 needs to be retrained. When I checked in, I asked one of the workers on my way out if I could use my points to buy a towel and he said that it is no problem. I also checked in with a family member and they said the towels are redeemable with points. When I went to the register when I was checking out, I was met with bad attitude by a short Out of shape, female. I asked her if I could have some help responded rudely with what do you want? I instructed her I would like to redeem my points for a towel and then she goes oh that that’s no problem But I don’t want to do that right now And we are no longer giving them out with points, which makes no sense to me.

Came to workout today and as I was checking in Deena the front desk employee was socializing ignoring members and not greeting anyone. She was very rude and wasn’t friendly at all when she made contact with me. Employee needs training and needs to understand customer service skills. Horrible experience!

Quick Summary: By far the worst hygienic gym I’ve been to. Maintenance is lacking as well. Poorly managed.

Pros:
1. Warm running shower water
2. Not busy in the morning 4am-6am

Cons:
1. Dirty lockers and bathrooms. Caustic built up. Rust built up on some screws/bolts.
2. Uses rags. No wet wipes.
3. Poorly maintained equipment. Benches not checked since March 24, 2021.
4. Only 2 adjustable benches at free weights.
5. Free weights are not in order. You’ll spend extra time looking for the weights you need.
6. Water from refill station had over .09 particles. Not sure if it has a filter or it needs replacement.

You pay a membership yet machines are always broke and don't even mention the pool, jacuzzi and steam room good luck seems like they fix things with duck take. Every week something is off limits jacuzzi jets don't work or pool is blocked off. So frustrating!! staff never knows why nor when they will be back on. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at In Shape Gym. The bathrooms were a nightmare - constantly leaking, lacking supplies, and filthy beyond belief. The equipment felt like relics from the Stone Age, and don’t even get me started on the lack of cleaning supplies. Save yourself the trouble and find a gym that actually cares about hygiene and maintenance.

Rename it covidshape. If you want to pick up covid then please come to inshape. I'm absolutely baffled they have a sign saying that during covid they are having trouble finding supplies. I can literally order unlimited supplies to fill my store complete with sanitation products. Crunch fitness in walnut creek NEVER had an issue keeping the place spotless during the entire pandemic. A week ago they were top notch. This is absolutely pathetic of a gym. I'm back two years later to the area and they haven't changed a bit. Still dirty, and unprofessional. Pathetic. Its aight. Lots of treadmills and weights. Great gym when its not busy during peak times. Bring your own clorox towels with drying towel to clean the sweaty machines lol. Most people are respectful but do not clean after using the machines. The towels provided by the gym get wet real fast and nasty and it staff takes a while to replace those blue towels.
Its a good location, lots of parking, has indoor pool. It has a sauna but of course it does get nasty because people wear their socks and shoes instead of using sandals. And sauna gets broken often.

I love the gym. I just wish there was an extra dumbbell area all the bros take that area with like 4 dumbbells at a time it’s hard to do shoulder press, curls or hammer curls when all the weights available are 35 plus… forced to use just machines but great place. Great time there every time. The staff is amazing and friendly! Just wish they could possibly consider making a new dumbbell area so it’s not so crowded in one area.
