WARNING: False, Early, and Double Billing Issues and Poor Customer Service

Review Body:

"I joined In-Shape Fitness (Tracy, CA) on September 22nd with the promotional offer of the first month free ($1 sign-up). My expected monthly rate is approximately $101(primary + dependent child)

Factual Billing Discrepancies:

Early Charge: I was charged $104.99 on October 2nd, which was premature as my free month had not yet concluded.

Double Charge: I was charged $101.49 on November 3rd and then charged the identical amount of $101.49 again on November 4th, resulting in an unauthorized double transaction.

When I called to clarify these erroneous and double transactions, the customer service representative provided irrelevant answers and actively refused to address the unauthorized Nov 3rd/Nov 4th double charge. The representative then abruptly ended the call without resolving my concerns.

This club has demonstrated deceptive billing practices and a failure to provide basic customer service. Potential members should monitor their bank statements carefully, as this facility appears to engage in false and unauthorized transactions."

RESOLUTION UPDATE - The In-Shape corporate care team contacted me regarding the billing issues. They were professional and resolved the situation completely, confirming that all unauthorized early and double charges have been fully refunded. I am satisfied with the resolution and the prompt action taken by the care team.

Pro : Good Clean facility. Friendly helpful Staff. Good classes. Good app. Only gym in Tracy with a pool(indoor and outdoor) and daycare. Has good massage chairs. No waiting for any machine or pool lanes or courts i.e. its not overcrowded.

The manager(long hair guy) was very helpful in reviewing the security footage when someone hit my car in the parking.

Con : I use onepass which is basically a subsidized plan from my medical insurance. Unfortunately it wont allow me to add my minor children. My only option is to switch to the regular plan which triples my cost ($30-$90). I even tried upgrading my plan to a higher tier which has guest passes but it wont allow under 18 guests. I wish there was a more economical option.

I have been a member for over 5 years now. I primarily joined for using the tennis court facilities. But, they are in a very bad shape with one or more of the lights in every court not working except 2. Even the ones that work aren’t bright enough. I have complained through the front desk and other means for months now and it seems to be falling on deaf ears. I see the prices increased, hear more members joining both to use the tennis and other facilities. Yet, I keep getting embarrassing reminders if I would recommend it to others. Why would I?

Update - Langston W/ In shape reached out to me and super nice and wanted to help. The situation has been completely rectified, and I’m pleased with his customer service. Overall the gym is a nice place, with lots of pools and good staff. Worth a try if you’re looking for a new gym.

I tried the new Crunch and they were an epic fail. So I signed back up with In-Shape's Tracy location after a year hiatus.
It's been about a week and so far it's below expectations. Walking into the Male locker room, you're immediately hit with a sour watermelon and musty body odor smell. It's most likely the dirty steam room. As you go further into the locker room to use the facilities, it reeks of urine. Classes are hit and miss. Today the Yoga instructor was late. Mind you it's a faster paced Yoga class, but she rushed through it to make up for her being late. I really thought they would have a better variety of Yoga and balance, maybe a more relaxing class. Not everyone wants to rush through poses. Equipment is dirty, and they don't seem to be walking the floors to ensure it's clean. We all know we have entitled folks that think they don't have to wipe down the equipment after they use it, so the staff should be ensuring there isn't literal sweat and dirt piled up on the equipment. It isn't from just a day of use either, you can tell it's been sitting there dirty for awhile. For the price, I'd expect a little more, at least in the cleanliness category. Why can't Tracy have at least ONE nice gym? It would be great if In-Shape met that category. I wish I didn't commit to an annual membership, monthly would have been better. I think I might have to take a trip over to Manteca to see if it's any better? Probably not!!

I like that the gym is always clean, well-maintained, and has a wide variety of equipment. The machines and free weights are in great condition, and there’s always something available. I really enjoy the group classes—they’re fun, energetic, and a great workout. There’s such a good variety of classes, which keeps my routine interesting.

Ive been a member for 5 years now. Great gym but it has always been dirty and has had a lack of focus on cleaning. ALL of the exercise areas have barely 1 cleaning supply and its always out of paper towels. The pool area outdoors is very dirty ALWAYS. The locker rooms are nasty and just overall there is nobody ever cleaning. Whereas the Manteca inshape is the exact opposite so i can only assume it’s a management issue at this location. Still the best gym around but even when my dad came to visit he made several comments how dirty it is. I actually took the time to do a google review because im hoping the management starts to take it more seriously like the other locations do.

Langston - the manager here is the sweetest and kindest person. I had a car seat with me and it wasn't allowed to be kept under the kids play area as it is considered a personal item and lockers are too small to stuff the car seat so he offered me to place it in his office. He is super nice and accommodating and of course the gym itself is pretty good. I have started regularly working out here and take my 3 year for her swim classes.

The sauna and locker room are absolutely disgusting. The floors are extremely dirty, with paper and trash scattered everywhere. They expect guests to remove their shoes before entering, but who would want to walk barefoot on such a filthy floor? To make matters worse, people come in wearing socks over feet that already smell bad, only to step on these dirty floors—it’s unhygienic and frankly gross.

When I raised my concern, the attendant admitted how dirty it was but did nothing to address it. Instead, they continued to make people walk barefoot inside. This is a serious health risk. I strongly suggest they clean up this place before someone reports them to the health department.

Review is solely based on operations of the club. I just left. Circled around in the parking lot 4 times and zero parking. They seem to be scheduling all the classes during peak hours. All I see is families full of kids coming out of their cars possibly for pool. I was on preworkout and decided to drive to Manteca club because there was literally zero parking. This club continues to leave a sour taste in my mouth. If they know peak hours leaves their members like this, they need to schedule classes in a different time slot etc. I would not recommend this club. Reiterating again this review is solely based on the parking, peak hours, and the parking area. Terrible experience.

I was quite disappointed with my experience. The staff was not particularly welcoming, the towels had a strong unpleasant odor, and the outdoor pool was in an unsanitary condition. Its the worst experience we had. On phone call they tell something and finally charged us for the second month even through we cancelled it. We have enrolled on 27th jan while on call with customer representative and it was clearly stated that for the February month it will be free and if we cancel before march we will not be charged for the month of march. Now we got charged for march month even through we had cancelled on February end...

In December I tried to take my wife off of our membership. For months I couldn’t get an answer of how to make this happen! Enter General Manager Langston Kennedy. Langston was friendly, solution oriented and took the time himself to help me work through the problem. 20 minutes later it was done. This was old fashioned excellent customer service! I’ve seen him around the club and whether you are a customer or worker he always has a smile on his face and a willingness to help. Thank you, Langston! If I could give you 10 stars I would!

Probably one of the worst gyms I have been a member of, it is extremely packed at all times, most of your time will be spent waiting on people staring at themselves and waiting to get on a piece of equipment not to mention parking the. The staff is friendly here… but the equipment kinda needs a revamp. Same machines down it seems. They have done some remodeling and upgrades so that helps for the steep monthly charges compared to other local gyms. Also recommend earlier workouts the evenings you will struggle to find parking and getting in a good workout might be a challenge with the crowded atmosphere.

It is too bad that indoor pool is only heated on paper, the water is not even barely warm. Hot tub is hot only half of the time. Towels are hand towels and they are out of them a lot. Some staff members lie about the times the pool closes. Not sure why. In over decade now could of fixed the parking situation. Very limited amount of classes. Some staff members are not familiar with being polite. Unreasonably priced for the service they provide. It seems that the owners of this chain only interested in membership dues and hiring more sales reps. Like it will magicaly fix the bad rep this location has, or fix the bad attitude of some staff members, or issues with luck of parking spaces, or keep the swimming pool actually heated!

At first I was interested to go to this gym as it looks nice and has a lot of equipment but at the entrance a rude blonde heavyweight guy with a beard decided to kick me out when my cousin had a membership with a guest pass and said that if he sees me again he would ban me and revoke my cousins membership and just made me less interested into getting a membership here.

This Manteca location is amazing! The staff is awesome and so are the facilities. They have two pools indoor and outdoor, steam room and sauna, in best of all the hot tub is outdoors is 3 times bigger than the other location. And they are all co-ed. It's a smaller facility but much better than the other locations!

I initially registered to reserve swimming classes for my kid, but after creating the account, I was unable to find any available classes in Tracy.I decided to cancel my account but there was an option to Hold the account , after holding period it automatically started charging my account and now when I canceled the account there is a $250 cancellation fee. I created a request on there website as i did not use there facility, but no response and when i called the facility they say it was in there fine prints about $250 cancelation fee.

This is the best gym in Tracy CA. I love the basketball area, squat area and the amount of stairmasters. But the smell of this gym is very strong, I would really like some air purifiers put around the gym. It gets so bad I often have to leave.

We initially got the membership so our kids could practice swimming. We were told there were swim classes scheduled Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 7:30 PM, with the pool closing at 8 PM. Based on that, we planned to use the pool on weekends. But when we arrived on Saturday, we were ordered to leave the pool after just two minutes "IMMEDIATELY." There were no signs or anything indicating that the pool was off-limits when we arrived.
It turns out that swim classes were scheduled 4-5 hours on Saturday mornings too. So, essentially, the indoor pools are off-limits for five days a week during any reasonable hours, and the outdoor pool is overcrowded, has debris and unsuitable for swim practice.
We were then informed by the manager that "members need to plan their schedules around the classes" and hinting that Fridays, half-Saturdays, and Sundays should be enough. Given it was no longer of any use, we decided to cancel our membership. Now, we are told that we'd still be charged the annual fee for the upcoming year, on top of the monthly fee we already paid and they were doing us a favor by not charging us until mid-next month. Just looked at other experiences and it seems more and more customers are highlighting the off-base priorities, absurd expectations and indifference of this facility.

I had a terrible experience yesterday with the same manager who didn't really help me out when I first went into the gym to sign up for a membership. My experience was bad due to me getting accused of trying to steal a membership?? As I said before I had an issue with him when I first signed up at the gym. He didn't tell me about any extra fees that would be charged to me on top of my member price due to paying my debit card. I spoke with a nice lady named Evon and she explained to me why my rate was at 89.99 vs the 69.99 and I told her who helped me out and that he didn't tell me any of this, it was a heavy set guy with blonde hair. Evon told me just set up through my direct bank account so there won't be any fees which I did and also thought l added a guest. I know I wanted to show my significant other the gym and get some of his help. The issue was I tried to sign in and didn't know my updated plan didn't go through. I scanned and the heavy set manger with blonde hair instantly accused me of trying to steal a membership by not paying for my significant other. I explained to him, I was new, I thought when I updated my plan I did add him which is why he came ((I've been here for about a month going on two) l even asked him can he check to see if he's added and he did. His response was "you don't have any guest passes so he cannot come into the gym, you'll have to give me 20 dollars for trying to just come into the gym like that without a membership" I felt so unheard and ignored even after explaining myself to him, even after he failed at his job the first time. He kept asking for my significant others id and telling us he needs to pay if we want to go in and I decided not to. He made me very uncomfortable and made us feel unwanted which makes me want to terminate my whole policy. Not the first time l've had an issue with him, I'm not sure if it's nothing else but he needs the training for customer service because he is very rude and don't warn people of extra fees when using certain payments. I wasn't going to write a review for the first incident but after this, I don't think I can't hold off.Also there's so many things wrong with them gym, dirty locker rooms, can't use the showers and there's no sauna.
I think it's a little crazy to have all of these problems and the accuse someone of also trying to steal when explaining their situation. Not a good gym. The nice lady Evon is the only reason I will give the gym 2 stars.

I’m very happy that the gym had an upgrade and added the power lift section. And I consistently see old/broken equipment taken care of (my wish though is to see the landmine permanently fixed. Did a small workout in the indoor pool. It was very convenient to reserve a lane than later decided to relax. At the moment the women’s showers are being remodeled 😎. But the restrooms / changing rooms are open 🤗.

I come to the gym every morning at 5am Monday - fridays the weight room is always spotless I always see Reina cleaning the weights from bottom to top!! On Fridays Roxanna is very joyful and always greets me with a smile and is very helpful when setting me up with in shape rewards. Tim is also very joyful he is always on point with cleaning the men’s restroom. They should be getting a raise !!! Or some sort of recognition !!! #LoveMorningCrew

Best gym in Tracy. They keep the place clean and the staff is always super friendly. It can get a little crowded at times, but for most of my workouts, I have no problem getting everything done. My only complaint would be that some members are pretty bad about putting their weights/equipment away.

Other than that, it's a very professional facility, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about their fitness goals to check it out!

This gym really has the potential to be much better and provide an exceptional experience to its members. Over the years, this gym has gotten way too congested, machines are literally packed side to side without much space. They either need to increase the size of the gym and expand or have a cap on membership. Also, during peak hours like 5:30PM it can be extremely challenging to find parking, one time they were all full, they need to increase the amount of parking spots. They should implement a technological system where one can see the amount of parking spots left when you enter the gym, similar to some parking garages, that way you know when it’s full and you don’t waste time driving around, this may also help to address some other parking concerns for the gym. This gym really hasn’t kept up with the amount of increase-age in membership. Facilities are always breaking down like the sauna, you see the closed sign up, makes me wonder if they are truly implementing good systems or what is really going on. The smell is terrible, perhaps utilizing some type of incense and regularly cleaning bathrooms. They really need to do research, see how more upscale gyms do it, and make efficient and good long-term changes. It’s really not right for the amount of money they charge. Many of the machines are broken like the treadmills for example, some don’t incline all the way or are slippery when walking. Why don’t they notice this, test their machines thoroughly a few times per year and fix it or change the machine? I’ve had to bring this to their attention, some treadmills I’ve been using have not been functioning properly for years. You constantly have to REMIND the employees to fill up the paper towels or wet towelettes or cleaning solution because it’s empty, that’s not my job as a member, they should make sure it’s always filled up. Why don’t they do regular rounding? To me, CLEANLINESS is the BIGGEST PRIORITY at a public gym, I literally have had to remind the employees numerous times to refill the machine cleaning supplies when there are multiple people upfront. Overall, it’s a nice gym, employees are kind in my experience, gym provides for a decent holistic working out experience, one of the best in Tracy and in the surrounding area, but with continued growth, management and the facility really hasn’t kept up. Looks like they are just trying to save costs and increase profits (not a good long-term business strategy, focus and invest in the consumer to drive business growth) and charging customers more membership, before there were wet towelettes in many areas around the gym and now they have reduced it. Also, I liked the layout of the gym previously when many of the weight lifting machines were placed upstairs on the second-level and it was more spaced out. Now, they have it all on the first floor in separate rooms. I like how it’s more organized according to upper and lower body, but I miss the space. I also DO NOT LIKE how they keep changing where machines are placed and set-up because you get used to how they were placed and when they change it, it messes things up and my gym routine. This is odd to me and they should make up their mind on machine placement, makes me wonder why they keep doing this…I liked how all the upper and lower body machines were downstairs in organized separate rooms, it made sense. They should not only collect feedback from members which they constantly ask for, but then take action and implement those changes, that’s the whole point. Poor management not instituting changes and not properly managing: facility upgrades, maintenance, employees, etc. They should also consult a design and construction expert to see how the inside space could be made more spacious by opening up walls, remodeling, expanding, etc. and how the layout could be improved. THIS GYM NEEDS A MAJOR OVERHAUL FOR THE INTERIOR, perhaps having more windows and sun room type of working out space may be a nice addition as well!

This gym is cool. It has racquetball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, weight machines, free weights w/ men’s side, girls side workout rooms, indoor swimming pool, outdoor swimming pool, outside kiddie pool, showers, steam rooms/sauna, upstairs/downstairs facilities and it also has fitness instructors and a healthy bar in case you need a smoothie or an apple, water, etc. The In-Shape staff are very friendly people and they work hard to bring to you a clean work out and fitness facility. They even have a day care center to watch your children when you need your workout time but you have your children! Problem solved !! I would have given it 5 stars but this facility is the most popular gym in Tracy, Ca. so it’s always so crowded. The parking lot is to small and I hate having to wait for people to get done with whatever they’re using so I can get my workout in. Sometimes people are just in there to talk and socialize with each other, so they should make a social area in there so the folks standing around don’t get in the way of people trying to get there workout in. So I had to deduct 1 star for it being really crowded 90% of the time, and the fact it doesn’t have enough parking. There is handicap parking. This gym is ADA compliant.

Very good amenities to use . They have outdoor /indoor swimming as well. Giving one star less because the bathrooms/toilets won't be clean many times, and the steam room is still not ready, also the indoor pool is very small

I love to work out at Inshape because this is one of the gyms that offers everything that I’m looking for that smaller gyms don’t offer. Like Tennis racquetball swimming basketball and more. It helps me stay motivated and it helps that my workout doesn’t get boring. I also like taking many other classes, like body pump, tennis for beginners and looking forward to taking more classes available to this gym.

It's been so sad and disappointing to see how the place once I loved is getting worst every day, the carpet smells horrible, the steam and sauna has been out of service since December, the jacuzzi has been out of service since March, the machines are full of dust, the rooms with lint, and the bathrooms have not been clean for months, you can see balls of hair on the floor and all the mirrors are dirty. All this for the prices to keep increasing very frequently. I spoke to the manager, he is not open to talk or do anything about it.

I joined this place only for indoor swimming but surprisingly they close it for maintenance frequently. During the month of june2023 they said 1 week maintenance but closed for more than 4 weeks . Suddenly from Aug1st they again closed for 4-6 weeks reason for both times was jacuzzi maintenance . Then what did they do during June closure ? Ridiculous.

Also their bath/steam/ sauna facilities are horrible . Not sure what the management doing ??

Inshape is a good option for enrolling kids to swimming classes. I have taken membership for myself and both my kids so that I can enroll for swimming classes and also reserve the pool when needed.
But later realized the indoor pool often closed for some issues and also it is not really a warm pool for kids.

Atleast I thought they would continue the swimming lessons properly. But that were also being cancelled, and now even without communication. This is the 3rd week in a row classes were cancelled and for the last two weeks there isn't even any communication. I will only realize that class is cancelled after reaching the facility.

Even previously there were cancellations and the communication will happen just on the day of the class and that two 1 or 2 hours before the session.

And the front desk seems to be uninformed of such cancellations (the way they communicated) and they want me to talk to the manager which I haven't got hold off so far. They really don't care to find out if the classes will even continue or not. Sending emails is of no use and finally I am trying to reach out to my creditcard company for refund by disputing the transaction

may be their gym and other sport facilities could be good. But with my experience with the swimming lessons/pool, it is not worth choosing this facility.

A lot of the basketball community in Tracy has been upset due to this change, but with good maintenance this could workout for everyone, maybe use the same backboards and rims from the old main court would be nice, of course to have them 10 feet would be nice as well. It's been disappointing for most members that utilize this section but I definitely assure you if they get things little things done on this court, it'll definitely get those members feeling better about it.

Wide Range of fitness equipment, many free fitness classes with the membership. Has swimming pool and kid, adult swimming classes for an additional fee. There are Tennis, Basketball and a few other courts available. Generally clean, well maintained. Free towels for work outs is a nice add on.

I pay a lot to come to this club because of the amenities it offers. Unfortunately the amenities that I frequently use are constantly out of service. The sauna is broken at least once a month and is usually down for a week or more. The hot tub is also hit and miss. The racquetball court always has a maintenance sign on it, and the swimming pool was down for 6 months. I also have my kids on my membership and while one of the staff was trying to help add a photo, he accidentally cancelled the membership and I had to pay a fee to add them back. He told me to contact the corporate office, but it directs you to the app.

I workout every mornings , I’m always greeted by the morning crew reina , Tim and roxanna. They’re all nice and helpful reina and Tim are always cleaning and Rox has great customer service . They should be getting raise or some type of recognition . Also it would be great if this gym adds a hipthrust machine I know Antioch has one .
