After emailing the Regional Manager “DC” and going without a reply since October 26th I am posting this here. I have copy and pasted my email into this review to let ownership know of what is clearly an ongoing issue at the Elmira location.

Good afternoon,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out regarding an incident that occurred at the Elmira location in Vacaville and a subsequent interaction with the General Manager there.

The night of 10/26, a pair of headphones that had been loaned to me were stolen at the facility. When I approached the General Manager to report the theft, she repeatedly emphasized that she does not work on weekends instead of addressing the situation. Throughout our conversation, she spoke to me in a dismissive manner and repeatedly asked what I was wearing and when I had entered the hot tub—questions I had already answered multiple times.

At one point, she said she would review the security footage, but instead appeared to return to her office to eat lunch and use her cellphone. Her conduct came across as unprofessional and unhelpful. She eventually directed me to Aaron, the Assistant General Manager, for assistance. While Aaron was helping me, she approached again and accused me of “distracting her employees,” which I found inappropriate, especially considering she had sent me there in the first place.

She also informed me twice that I could not view the security footage, which I completely understand; however, I never requested to see it—I only wanted the situation to be properly addressed.

I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you at your earliest convenience regarding this matter.

Update:

After 3 full business days (she had to review only 19 minutes of security camera footage and claimed it was from a camera on an opposite wall that doesn’t even exist) the headphones were returned and do not work at all.

Let me be clear, the headphones aren’t as big of an issue as this managers lack of professionalism and her clearly dismissive attitude.

Update: They have made drastic improvements since my last review. The people stuck in their Facebook wall on their phones as entry staff are now excellent and greet you with smiles and helpful attitudes. One guy named Devon (bad with names?) is a standout as a model employee. They have updated the entire indoor pool and gotten a lot of new equipment! Their classes are getting better too!

The paint and bathrooms look much better than my previous pics.

They still allow people to camp 1-3 machines for a LONG time. Example: A guy was on the curl machine for 45 minutes (mostly talking on the phone) and I asked him if I could get in 10 minutes and he flat out said nope and acted annoyed. I asked the staff about people camping machines and they just said sorry. Yesterday a guy was camping 3 machines and a guy went to get on an empty machine and was yelled at from across the room. Maybe a sign could be put up that says something to the effect of "Please respect other members and only use a station for 15 minutes or less at a time" just top make it seem like you care? Also they have switched to a new wet wipe system of cleaning the machines that are either almost out or dry when used.

All that being said it is a great place to go now! Wonderful gym! Much better now!

As you arrive, 90% of the time the front desk is completely unstaffed. If it is, a young girl with her face glued to her phone’s Facebook wall is there and doesn’t give you the time of day. There is one younger guy that sometimes staffs it and he is personable. There are constant machines down with little tags but will be down months at a time. The interior is not kept up well, particularly in the dressing rooms and pool areas. Today there was a really loud fan squeaking as it had for our last few visits. Skelton crew happy to take our money but not invest in their own business. They also allow people to throw and slam weights loudly after which the person will yell or scream like an animal that needs to be put out of its misery. Machine campers galore. Rethink the is place if you’re looking for a gym.

If you’re a casual lifter or you go to the gym a few months out of the year this gym is perfect for you. Month by month membership, decent size, central location.

If you exercise or lift on a consistent basis there are better gyms in Vacaville. Only one incline bench is a joke. None at the smith machines either. The others broke an while ago. Equipment is reaching EOL with some replacement after a long wait. Crowd is alright, busy since it’s an economic option and staple gym in the area.

There are other options in the same price range that worth considering. Try Vacaville Strength

Ok gym. Has plenty of machines but with the price hikes it's starting to not feel worth it. Current rate is $35/month. It's also been a month since they removed the spray bottles and towels to wipe down equipment and they still haven't replaced them. There are the disposable wet wipes but it just leaves to more trash on the floor or less people wiping their equipment now.

It’s honestly not as bad as the reviews say. Just wish there were more free weights/benches.
They may not have everything you want, but they have everything you need to get a good workout in.
My biggest problem is with the patrons that don’t re-rack their weights or put stuff back where it belongs.

More machines broken, and after my last review, the club reached out to me to discuss my review which, I figured I would be able to vocalize my complaints and be heard. Instead all I got was 'we don't have a technician and we don't want to train someone to learn how to fix the machines.'

I don't know what they hoped to achieve through a call like that but it was a waste of everyone's time and really frustrating to hear that MGMT is less focused on creating solutions and more concerned with finding the right applicant with the right skillset while all of their machines slowly decay and continue to break. If I wasn't locked in for a year I would go somewhere else

90% of the treadmills are ancient and half the treadmills are broken and there's almost always a wait to use the leg machines because there's only like 2 of each type and one of them was broken for a whole month. At the end of the day, it's a gym and its fine but some attention to the quality of the gear and availability of machines would go a long way

In-Shape Brown’s Valley is hands down one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. It’s tucked away in a peaceful, nice neighborhood, far from the chaos of shopping centers, which makes it the perfect place to focus on fitness. The gym itself is always clean and well-equipped with top-notch machines and gear for all types of workouts.

I’m so disappointed in this gym. It used to be well kept, very little equipment issues, clean, great service but the past 6 months it’s completely failed its members. Almost EVERY treadmill is broken and has a sign. I’m constantly waiting for A machine no matter what time I come because there’s only 8 that work properly. The pool and sauna temperature is very low. I wish the company cared more to service their machines because it’s a great gym but has a lot of short comings.

10 years later, and the club still has issues with the steam room - maybe a different approach from management/owners - to address issues, dover inshape in fairfield seems to have no issues, why can't this gym keep up? Also, not that it matters much - but your front of staff can be very off putting, they don't bother to greet, and they congregate in the corner chit chatting. The face value of the gym, and poor customer service approach, the equipment being broken/being repiared/ and the steam room never operating/ is all offputting and makes me question why I continue to come to this gym. You'd assume In-Shapes standards would be higher.

The gym doesn't open early enough... use to be 24 hours during the week now stuck going late at night while it's jam packed and have to wait for all the teen couples to quit cup caking on the equipment.
The time also says it closes certain times at 11pm but they open up the sauna and steam room at like 10 for cleaning... why not clean when people are gone so they can use the facilities "during buisness hours"

Hot tub has been closed most of the time going back many months. I pay to have a hot tub and pool to manage my pain and rehab from a car accident. They won't let you use a different location while their facilities you pay for are unusable.

I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. I like that have a person constantly cleaning the club all day instead of just after-hours. Check-in process is a breeze.
What I'm not happy with is the wasted space that can easily be replaced with good quality workout equipment (mainly upstairs). I also hate that they refuse to change the TV channels on the big TVs. Like, NBA season is here, so TNT should be one of the standard channels. Instead they would rather display Fox News.

I've been a member for a while now and the last couple months they have charged my bank account all different amounts of money . My membership is 49.98 for my self and my son . The month of October I was charged 112.00 and some change the 2 months before October 74.00 and some change . I never signed up for this . I signed up for a 49.98 membership with an annual fee of 89.99 . I don't trust them with my bank information anymore and I will be cancelling my membership and going somewhere else .

Here’s the truth after going to this gym for over a year. Everything they say they are going to fix or improve takes 3x as long as it they say or it should. Simply put its poorly run. There was a time where there were more stairmaster machines that were broke then working. They also said with ZERO heads up the weight room would be closed from 8/3 to 8/7. It is 8/10 and the weight room is still CLOSED. Completely dysfunctional and the reason I have to carry multiple memberships in town.

I wanted to update this review. It’s now September and the steam room has been closed for a week. And multiple equipment broke for over 2 weeks.

DIRTY TOWELS AND SHOWERS THAT GIVE YOU STIS!!!! Myself and TWO other members have tested positive for an STI in the past 2 weeks, two of us married. After some investigation we have found out this gyms bathrooms are basically INFESTED. I had no idea it was actually possible but as a pregnant woman my OB advised this is possible and super dangerous. STAY OUT OF THE BATHROOM AND DONT USE ANY TOWELS!

I had no problem getting on a machine I needed. Came in on a Sunday at 3:30 pm. The gym was clean, which is very important to me. The staff was friendly and informative. I'm glad my membership allowed me to use clubs out of town. The hotel gym was not enough for me.

I've had a membership for years. Starting June 2023, my membership doubled in cost with no warning. I've called Elmira twice, gone in, emailed twice and gone in again to inquire, and I have gotten the run around. I guess the front desk is now serving as member services and can't answer my questions. They have sent me to the app to file a ticket. I can't get a call and no one will give me a number to call or tell me what is going on. My account has been canceled twice without me canceling, in one month... I'm so confused and disappointed.

Since they have closed the Alamo location this gym just gets too packed. It's quite ridiculous how many people are attending this one location, accompany this with the large amount of equipment that is always "out of service" you can mess around and only get cardio in because all the freeweights are completely full. They always charge me a "member improvement fee" but I have yet to see any new equipment

I have been a member of in-shape fitness center for about 6 months. I find the employees very nice and friendly, your greeted when you enter and you are thanked when you leave. The fitness center is very clean the customers are friendly and they have so many machines and free weights. The pool and spa are clean and I would recommend the Elmira location to anyone who wants to join a fitness center.

Really like the in shape health clubs. It has variety. It has everything from group classes like Zumba and spin classes to free weights and easy to use machines but my favorite parts are the pool and hot tub and steam rooms.

Jennie (I think she's a supervisor or manager) is awesome. She showed my mom and I around the club while we were waiting for our classes to start. My mom is having foot surgery, so Jennie showed us their 29 Min Circuit, adapted for her foot, and explained about the Senior classes they have. Super friendly and helpful and informative.
