Good variety of amenities. It's spacious, and there are lots of groups, if that is your thing. There are enough areas that you can accomplish your workout according to your preference (bikes, 30-minute circuit, treadmills, machines, free weights, swimming). However, the equipment is not maintained well. There is a shortage of dumbells and clips for the barbells, which has persisted for years. One of the barbell bars is bent, but pointing that out to the staff just resulted in it being put back on a weight bench. Is member safety a concern at all?
Some machines are partially non-functioning. Machines taken out of service stay that way for months. The annual "equipment maintenance fee" is obviously NOT being used on the equipment.
Emailed feedback surveys result in no response to the feedback.
Some employees are attentive, some just play on their phones. The club appears more interested in acquiring new members and selling personal training packages than maintaining an efficient gym. All this shows a lack of effective management, both locally and at the corporate level.
Will this review result in any improvement? Having brought these items to the attention of the local staff and corporate more than once, to no avail, it's not very likely.
2025 update: Same problems with the equipment. For example, the sit-up board was deteriorating for months, and no one seemed to realize that there was a problem with it. It was taken out of service and has been sitting off to the side for about 3 months, with the cover torn off. Apparently, it will be 3-4 MORE months until it will be replaced. Only incompetence would preclude repairing or replacing it.
Other equipment are missing parts, trim covers, labels, and are rusting and have damaged upholstery.
In-Shape, have some pride in your business. A little bit of effort would make a huge difference.

I've been a member for a little over a year now and would highly recommend this club for several reasons: friendly helpful staff, clean facilities, nice layout of equipment, TWO pools (the main reason I joined), and best off all, extremely reasonable rates. Disgusting place. Inappropriate in the bathrooms, in the men's area they leave piss and shaved hair in the bathrooms. With some people literally opening the showers while your showering. The steam room is always filthy, the floor has a thick coat of dirt and debris. All the equipment hasn't been dusted or cleaned by the people who work there in ages. On the leg press there's huge dust bunnies on the floor.
Tried canceling the membership due to the disgusting place and rude service and they still charged me. Won't be back.

Also the "owner" that replies to this never replies back or fixes the problems. Tried emailing about the problem to the reply, no one replied back

Manager was not very nice on the phone either nor understanding and still charged me additional month.

The staff at the front desk are friendly, or I would have given only one star. The pool is always dirty. There are no trainers. Locker room floors are wet and slippery. Low water pressure in showers. Showers are dirty and slimy. My regular workouts are between 11 AM and 12 Noon. I've complained multiple times about safety concerns. They always offer to speak with me directly, which they already have, yet nothing changes! Safety and cleanliness are my and other members major concerns!

I like the In-Shape gym, but for the first time I wanted to take my children to the pool , but the manager didn't allow me. The manager was very uneducated and rude. She said that you have to pay twenty dollars for each child. I told her first let my kids to see the pool then if they like the pool i register it under my account, but the manager behaved very badly and she was not listening. even my children said that she was a very rude woman and she doesn’t know her job. I suggest that in the future In-Shape hires a great manager and educated who will treat people well. I've been with In-Shape gym since 2019, but this is the first time I've encountered such a rude person.

I am an older disabled person. I am looking for a facility that accepts the Medicare program so I can swim and ride an exercise bike. Do you accept this? I did receive your response. You sent me a link that was very vague. I asked to have a call back but i received nothing. I'm asking because I went on a walk thru to go over the gym and membership and was told by staff to get the medicare code. My 80yr old mother and i both got the code and came down there within 2mos and they said they dont accept it

I really like In-Shape, I joined because of a $1 promotion that I found online and I've enjoyed it ever since. I really enjoy the upstairs section that they have. Realistically, that's the only reason I won't switch to any other gym because it's the only one with that feature. I like the exclusion from everybody else lol but I will say the "gym etiquette" of some members leaves something to be desired.. but all in all, the price is a bit much, especially with my income, but I am making it work and it is worth it!

First time taking my kids to the kids club and my 9 year old autistic child was accused of cursing, this may sound like something a typical child does but not this kid. They have what looks to be two girls no older than 16 watching all of these kids. They called the manager to speak to me, and told me that we usually make the child leave, well how about instead of acting like gym police get your facts straight. Even when my child told them what he said, which was far from anything vulgar, they never apologized for assuming or better yet embarrassing me and my children like we did something wrong. I signed up for a year contract but now looking for another gym!

I wrote a review about this gym and I loved it , and sent a real and honest review about my feelings towards it . However, after my family and I decided we couldn't afford ,neither go physically ,we took out our membership and everything started to be clear that they were just in it for the money . My mom and I are on a tight budget and after we canceled they took our money that we were going to use for Christmas for themselves, when we already paid for the end of our membership . For the last 15 years, I've been a member, off and on due to work assignments, but can't remember the last bad experience. However, this In-Shape in Yuba City puts the rest of them to shame! Often, I walk-in after a 12 hour shift and am not an easy person to talk to. At this spot, they always find a way to make it a memorable experience. Two gentlemen in particular, Jadon and Manny. Regardless of how busy or stressful it is, they are always professional, courteous, and kind. While it may be small, it makes a huge difference for someone like me. Recently, my phone was having issues and couldn't log in. Instead of hassling me about it, they went the distance to take care of it. For some reason, it was a frustrating day and it felt, in the moment, like when a credit card gets declined at a register. Again, its the little things that make the biggest impacts. Sam, the manager, is definitely doing something right and has two exceptional employees that I hope he values. Thank you for listening!

Super dishonest and disorganized, I got the bait and switch with fee structure amount. Totally disappointing. Management hasn’t a clue about their own company’s policies, you will get a different story depending on who you speak to. Be careful before giving them your bank acct or cc#, the charges never seem to stop. I was recently told by a “manager” the gym was bought and changing owners so everyone’s fees will benefit going up up up.

It’s a shame how this gym has changed. Before Covid it was a family friendly gym that was clean and organized. Now, it’s extremely unorganized and chaotic. Nothing is ever put away and they allow groups of teens to work out in groups of 6 or more. Good luck trying to workout between 4 and 8PM. It’s an absolute circus with no staff in sight. Today a fight broke out amongst a group of teens. After the fight they were allowed back back in and just hung out in their group of ten looking at fight videos. I’m all for a good fight but this place is getting crazy.

I Came here as a guest excited to possibly join this gym and the first encounter with a girl behind the counter told us that she was clocked out and left us standing there , then a new girl named Ashley was just staring at us didn’t ask us if we needed help so I walked up to her and ask her if we just walk through she said she could give us a tour and gave me a slip and told me do fill it out. As I’m filling it out she looks at me and said are you done ?! In a very rude tone I asked her if she was in a hurry and she gave me a dirty look and said excuse me and started laughing I told her you are being very rude I want to talk to your manager and she smirked at me and pointed at him and said his right there not trying to apologize for the way she spoke to me and as I’m telling the manager what happened she’s laughing. I am very disappointed in the way the staff talked to us here. Clearly they are not trained at all on professionalism. I also would like to add when we got a tour finally the daycare room was very hot and they told us the ac was down and they were working on it. Do better in shape

I love the access to amenities through reservation of time slots, and the ease of utilizing access. A real favorite is use of the spin cycles for aerobic exercising, simply great. Another favorite is use of both the indoor, and outdoor lap pools. The stair steppers, and elliptical machines are also great.

This place has everything you could want in a gym, but not much more. Having been a personal trainer for years, and a member of another gym in town, I was hesitant to sign up here. What finally got me was the price and the proximity to my house. You get a bunch of cardio machines (which fill up during busy times), free weights (full of meat heads), weight machines (full of girls texting/taking pictures of themselves/looking up workouts on instagram), an indoor lap pool (which is nice when there's no class), an outdoor pool (always empty and my favorite part), and some functional training areas that really take the cake. This place could stand to be cleaned more often, and some of the members need a lesson in ettiquete, but the friendly staff makes it worth attending. I lost my keys and one of the front desk girls searched the whole club for them! That's going above and beyond. The group classes are great, but there aren't enough offered; I really want to see a morning yoga class, or body combat, or something with trx... but over all, I'm happy with this gym most of the time! It's a good place to go if you can't afford the racquet club.

Depends on the times you go, after 5 there’s a lot of people there. They come in groups and all share the same machines or weights so be prepared to wait. I personally do body weight work outs but it seems like people just don’t care when I train and just walk in front of me without caring and just do their exercises. It happens at every gym I go to. But yes be prepared to wait after 5.

This place continued to make great improvements over the short period of time living here in Yuba City. They have fixed their steam room since I’ve starting coming here three months ago for a work assignment. I have been rehabilitating an injured knee and really enjoy coming to this gym. It has everything I need from classes to equipment to facilities. Their yoga class is one of the best and the Zumba classes are just fun.

They’ve reinstated their towel service and provide plastic bags for your wet/soiled clothing items. Took shower lately and water pressure seem better.

This gym provides a great service to the community but have a lot of underutilized studio time. They could boost membership with providing gentle classes for seniors early in the mornings and Latin dances in the evenings for working professionals who love to dance for exercise.

I only have a week left in this town and I think I’ll miss this gym the most. Thanks, In-shape for being an awesome partner in my recovery journey.
