This gym and the people are all 5 stars! Genuinely the most wonderful experience. I was visiting from out of town and they were beyond accommodating and the equipment was such a treat to use. If I lived in sf I would sign up permanently in a heartbeat! The coaches are encouraging, kind, caring, and extremely motivating, the owner is so helpful and welcoming, and the members are so joyful! There isn’t enough word space for all the nice things I would want to say!

This place is great. Maryann is the best coach I've ever had. She has it all: a lot of experience with different kinds of bodies, personalities, and abilities, a calm and supportive way of coaching, and a curiosity and openness to learning that I have a huge amount of respect for.

A+++ recommend. This gym feels very welcoming, I usually feel shy and overwhelmed at gyms, being a woman and fat, but I feel comfortable here.

Joined the gym 4months ago.

Im 45yo but new to weightlifting. I joined the beginner powerlifting class. We meet 3 days per weeks. The small class has coach Maryanne on site to spot your lifts and give you corrections on your form.
I’m getting stronger fast and can’t wait to see where I am in a year.

Invincible is a fantastic gym for all of the reasons. I like the people, I like the coaches, it isn't crowded, and I have all the support I need to get more technical and stronger as fast as I want to.
I've been doing the big 3 lifts as an accessory to sports on-and-off for a decade+, but I've only been powerlifting with a coach for the past few months here. I've already seen noticeable form improvements and lifetime PRs. Thanks MaryAnn!

My husband and I joined Invincible Barbell about 7 months ago. Coaches Vince and Maryanne are as welcoming and supportive as can be. They’re passionate, tailor your workouts to you individually, and really take the time to improve your form bit by but instead of throwing everything at you at once. Not only did we join a great gym, but we became part of a great community as well.

I was traveling from out of town and needed a place to train, And I came into invincible barbell on mission because they had a well put together training facility. It was clean lots of good equipment and quality coaches. For new perspective members, these coaches have traveled around the world and learn from some of the best programs in Olympic weightlifting that exist. I highly recommend checking out this gym. It’s convenient location near the BART station as well as accessible facility. Makes it a great location if you’re trying to learn, powerlifting Olympic, lifting or general strength sports.

My best friend has been delightedly attending this gym and receiving coaching for the last few months. I was visiting from out of town for Pride and MaryAnn welcomed me into the gym to try out for a day. I felt welcomed in and safe as someone who is very new to lifting and has received very little individualized instruction and feedback in group classes back home in Portland. MaryAnn’s descriptions and modeling of the exercises were very clear and easy to understand and replicate. I was so appreciative to learn how to properly set up the equipment to my body’s proportions for safety on the bench press and effectively learned how to set up my form for the first time. She observed me and offered positive feedback and additional things to focus on with form at a pace that was very manageable and really enhanced my stability and ease. Wish I lived in San Francisco, so I could keep attending. Highly recommend!

Came here for my first ever lifting training session with Coach MaryAnn and recommend for beginners! Lifting always seemed intimidating to me, but she made sure to start me off slowly and paid close attention to my form. The exercises she taught were tailored to the muscles I wanted to focus on. Given that barbells by themselves are heavy enough to cause injury, I appreciate that MaryAnn taught proper safety procedures! The gym is also well-maintained and clean, with a shower and lockers in the back.

I've been working with head coach Vince for over 5 years. He helped me improve both my technique and strength over the years. Vince is very experienced in Olympic Weightlifting and he coached me several times at US Open and numerous local meets. I like that he adjusts the program based on my schedule and recovery so I can get the most out of it.

The gym has 8 weightlifting platforms with lots of bars and weights and has been getting new machines lately too. There's a good sense of community with many people coming to train regularly.

I’ve been going to Invincible Barbell for three months now, and I’ve improved more in that time than I did the whole pandemic. From 2020 until fall of this year, I was working with an online trainer. Once things started to open up, I wanted a coach, but didn’t want to shell out the money for a personal trainer.

At Invincible Barbell, I’m getting world class coaching from someone who not only specializes in Olympic Lifting, but is also actively competing. Coach Vince is awesome! The class is setup so 8 people can use the platforms at a given time, and the coach is present to give on-the-spot feedback. I didn’t get that with the online training. I wanted somewhere I could lift safely, knowledgeable coaches, and a lifting community, and I’m getting all of that here.

I’m not a powerlifter, but if you’re looking to do that, Coach Maryanne is also here to help. I can’t speak from experience, but I’ve heard great things about her. She’s also knowledgeable and actively competing. There’s also a beginner class if you’re just getting started with lifting.

I come here three days a week and lift in my garage gym three days a week. Coach Vince also gives me workouts to do in my garage, so I don’t have to program them myself.

To sum up, I’ve improved so much since coming to Invincible Barbell. They have everything I need and then some to help me reach my goals. I also like the community they create and can’t wait for my first competition early in 2024.

This place is awesome! I’ve been training with Coach Maryann since their opening (6 months now!) and I’ve been very happy with my results.

The coaches/owners provide you with everything that you would need at a gym. They have clean bathrooms and showers, chalk for your heavy-lifting needs, and a snack cabinet if you’re ever in need of a quick energy boost. They’ve created an amazing gym family that welcomes everyone to begin or continue their lifting journey.

If you’re looking for a new gym to workout in, this is the one for you.

Stop by for a gym tour with one of the coaches, you won’t regret it!!

I trained with Vince for a year prior to moving for grad school. I transitioned from xfit to olympic weightlifting and had never attempted a snatch over 65 lbs. A year after working with Vince, he had me hitting 80kg (176 lbs, twice, on VERY good days). He tailors a specific program to you based on your fitness goals, mobility needs, and experience level. Vince and Maryann are a dynamic duo that are committed to their athletes growth. I highly recommend this gym!

TL;DR: a SUPER community-oriented, beginner and advanced friendly powerlifting gym with stellar coaches. Since joining 4 mo ago, my progress and physical/mental strength has skyrocketed. I'd recommend taking them up on their 1-tour offer, which really convinced me!
---
While cliché to say, Invincible Barbell has really changed my life. I had 0 experience in powerlifting before walking into this gym around 4 months ago, not knowing whether I'd even like it. As a woman and as someone who never seriously competed in sports growing up, powerlifting felt very intimidating. Fast forward to today, I'm so much stronger (not only physically, but mentally!) and excited to compete in my very first meet in a few weeks.

For anyone considering stopping by for a tour, I'd HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. I dropped into several weightlifting/powerlifting gyms and classes in SF before committing to a membership here, and choosing Invincible was standout on a few axes:

1) The coaches: MaryAnn is my coach and she nails the difficult balance of creating a safe space for failure and pushing me to be my best. She also has been unbelievably patient in introducing and reviewing powerlifting fundamentals with me, given that I had no training or knowledge beforehand. Vince, as many others here have attested, is also awesome though I do not regularly train with him like I do with MaryAnn :)
2) The programming: MaryAnn has a structured, block-based training plan for me, which is clearly optimized based on my day-to-day sessions, which I think has been the difference between slow and skyrocketing progress in all of my #s (Squat, Bench, Deadlift). She also is more than happy to program in remote or accessory workouts should I request them, or make ad hoc changes if I need to miss a session or two due to travel/work. The monthly membership seems costly on first glance but the amount of individualized coaching+attention and value I've gotten make it a super good deal, IMHO!
3) The community: many gyms like to boast this, but the powerlifting M/W/F class has truly become my second home here in SF. You get to see the same friendly faces 3x a week, who will cheer for you in training max-out days or just because. MaryAnn also regularly schedules gym hangouts that are very well-attended such as picnics and Halloween parties.
4) The facilities: the gym has always had any kind of bar a member could ask for and more platforms than I have seen in any other gym. In the past few months, MaryAnn and Vince have also been adding new equipment and renovations (though I think we already had everything we could've wanted/needed).

If I haven't convinced you yet and you're still reading this, I'd recommend scheduling a gym tour via their website to check it out. That's what certainly convinced me :)

It’s good for you.

Invincible Barbell is owned and operated by two great coaches and they specialize in powerlifting as well as weightlifting. While both coaches are knowledgeable in both practices, Vince oversees most of the weightlifters and makes sure everyone is lifting safely, while MaryAnn focuses more on the powerlifting athletes. Both coaches are well versed in training scheduling, various and challenging exercises, and supporting their athletes through their difficulties. I have personally experienced more than 15 kilo personal record jumps in my lifts and have developed a greater sense of overall strength and control. The workouts are tough - but if you’re having an off day either coach is willing to assist you in alternatives or, on the flip side, push you to do more when you’re doing well. But don’t be surprised if that one exercise you never did or wanted to do shows up regularly on your routine.

It’s good for you.

Invincible Barbell has changed me forever and I am forever grateful to Vince and Mary Ann for creating and establishing an amazing gym! I highly recommend training at Invincible Barbell! You will be welcomed by a community full of amazing people; it is Rogue galore, you have all you need. - it's the best powerlifting gym in the Mission :)

Before I started training with Vince, I struggled with obesity and had very low stamina and endurance. But Vince's expertise and personalized training program turned everything around for me. With his guidance, I went from struggling to climb a flight of stairs to deadlifting and doing back squats like a pro!

What I appreciated most about Vince was his ability to listen to my concerns and tailor each workout to my specific needs. He helped me achieve my fitness goals, whether it was preparing for the summer season or toning my arms and abs.

But most importantly, Vince showed me that fitness is not just about looking good externally, but it's about feeling good internally as well. His holistic approach to fitness is what sets him apart from other trainers, and I couldn't recommend him enough.

Vince is an incredible personal trainer who works well with people of all ages and fitness levels. He is kind, patient, and truly cares about his clients' well-being. Thank you, Vince, for changing my life and helping me become the best version of myself!!
