I have discovered the absolute best trainer at the fabulous Iron and Mettle gym. Taryn is terrific! Thoughtful in her preparation, always checking in on my goals to help tailor-make the best private and semi-private sessions, Taryn keeps me laughing yet very focused at the same time! And before I know it I’m accomplishing physical feats I never thought possible. Taryn’s expertise along with her huge heart is what makes her strength training sessions so remarkable. I highly recommend Taryn to anyone who wants to set goals and see results! She’s the best!

I love the vibe at Iron & Mettle, which is focuses on strength in community. On top of that, Taryn Estébez is an incredible trainer who is relentlessly attentive and positive. Her smart and customized approach to working out has me both feeling stronger AND looking forward to coming to work out. I could not be happier.

Taryn & the staff at Iron & Mettle are fantastic - i came to strength training intimidated by the equipment and a strong awareness that there are more ways to move wrong than move right with lifting heavy. Danielle (the owner) immediately made me feel safe, welcomed, and seen - and matched me to the perfect trainer for my work. Taryn (my trainer, coach, and cheerleader all in one!) has tailored my personal program exactly right for my body and personality - bringing knowledge, adaptive wisdom, enthusiasm and care, all while pushing me to excel in a progressive overload program. i'm stronger and healthier - and as a bonus? the vibe in the studio is unmatched..

Taryn!!! The best!!! I’ve been working with Taryn for a few months now and I’ve seen a noticeable difference. She pushes me to new limits with every session, and does so with an encouraging attitude and thoughtful caution for an old injury of mine. Every session is dynamic — she introduces new exercises and keeps things interesting. She’s personable, genuine, remembers all our convos — and somehow can keep count of my reps while we’re gabbing! I’m always perfectly sore the next day, and that’s a real win to me! Thank you, Taryn!!!

Iron and Mettle, the owner Danielle, and the trainer I work with, Taryn, are phenomenal. From our first session, Taryn has always taken the time and care to learn about my goals, injuries, strengths/weaknesses, etc., and takes that all into account every time we meet. She challenges and motivates me in the most supportive way (and always knows when I need that extra push), and is genuinely invested in my progress and overall wellbeing. I also have to say that Taryn is simply the kindest, most wonderful person to spend time with. Her positivity and encouragement make training not just effective (ask me about how my back pain has disappeared!) but incredibly joyful.

Angelique has been excellent for my fitness journey! Before training with her, I was intimidated by the gym and didn't know where to start with exercise. She created a personalized workout plan that perfectly fit my beginner level and my goals to build confidence and strength. Angelique is incredibly patient, always encouraging, and makes each session fun and motivating. I've seen remarkable progress in my fitness and overall well-being. I feel stronger and more confident. I'm so glad I found her.

Iron and Mettle is hands-down the best gym I've ever joined. It completely eliminates the "gym intimidation" factor and replaces it with a genuinely welcoming and supportive community.

The coaches are world-class, with an incredible focus on proper form and safety. My trainer, Emmi, was phenomenal at building my confidence and getting me back to lifting heavy. This amazing vibe comes from the top down—the owner, Danielle, personally checks in to ensure you're having a great experience, which is a rare and appreciated touch.

I tell all my friends who are nervous about lifting to sign up for the intro pack. If you want to get strong in a positive and motivating space, this is it!

I was coming back to fitness from a life altering event and she was just what I needed;.her sincere reassurance, and focus on saftey gave me the confidence to push myself and “ increase the weight”although my heart was reluctant at times. I seriously recommend her if you need the extra accountability, she will keep you honest.

I’ve been taking personal training sessions at Iron and Mettle for the last few months, and it’s always one of the highlights of my week. The gym has such a welcoming, clean, and positive vibe, which has made it a great place to learn how to strength train. Angelique is awesome—she explains each exercises really clearly and always takes the time to answer my questions to make sure I’m doing moves right.

I have been training at Iron & Mettle for about a year. The community & trainers are all wonderful. The space is safe, clean & welcoming.

I’ve had 2 personal trainers so far (Larissa thank you for providing me with a great foundation!). My current trainer is Sami for about 8 months.

Sami meets me where I am, encourages me, cheers me on when I feel awkward in a workout or struggle to hit my last 2 reps, helps adjust workouts when something feels uncomfortable or painful, but also pushes me when I need it especially on exercises I’ve done before or when we go up in weight & I sike myself out thinking I’m not strong enough.

Investing in personal training has truly changed my life. I’ve constantly injured myself before & would lose motivation to keep going. Very grateful that I was referred to this gym.

Thank you Iron & Mettle for being such a positive fitness community in Noe Valley!

Highly recommend personal training with Coach Sami and classes at Iron and Mettle if you're looking for an inspiring, safe, motivating gym in the city! I've taken personal training classes with Coach Sami for over a year and have seen such a positive difference in my strength, form, and mentality towards wellness. Sami is great at pushing and motivating you to meet your goals and continue to progress! I always leave my sessions with a smile on my face with the positivity my coach and everyone at the gym exudes! Plus getting to see the cutest gym pups is a great bonus.

Love this gym and the owner (Danielle) and the trainers. I’ve had personal training and /or classes with many of the staff (Lauren, Leslie, Marina and others) and they are excellent. The classes are challenging and can be modified for injury or other needs. The facility is great- top notch equipment and variety while not being intimidating for a woman over 50. It’s a dog friendly gym (for the trainers) and it’s kept so clean and welcoming. Couldn’t recommend this more highly to someone new or experienced and looking to work out.

Joining I&M three years ago has truly been the best decision I've made for my health and fitness journey. After years of being stuck in a cardio-focused routine or struggling with improper lifting form, I was in a real rut. This gym completely changed my approach to fitness and has helped me build strength in ways I never thought possible.

What I love about I&M is their emphasis on positive body image—there are no mirrors, which creates a space where the focus is on how your body feels, not how it looks. I learned to listen to my body and understand the importance of proper form, including how to properly brace my core (something I went through life without knowing!).

Thanks to Danielle and her amazing team, I’m in the best shape of my life in my 30s! They truly care about each person’s progress, and they take the time to check in, listen to your needs, and track your progress in every class. If you experience any discomfort or tightness, they don’t just let it slide; they’ll take time to review your form and provide you with stretches or alternative workouts to help you feel better.

If you're feeling stuck and want to learn how to strength train correctly, I&M is the place to be. It’s more than just a gym—it’s a community where you can grow stronger both physically and mentally. I can't recommend them enough!

I feel so fortunate to have found Iron + Mettle — this gym has the most supportive, kind, and empowering environment. Since coming here, I’ve seen dramatic changes in my overall strength, mobility, and body awareness, which improved chronic pain and injuries that I hadn’t been able to resolve for ages. I primarily attend the semi-private classes, which are challenging and well-structured but also fun so the time flies by! All the coaches are highly knowledgeable, encouraging, and offer personalized advice to make each workout fit your own goals. Wish I could rate more than 5 stars!

Best gym ever! I come to semi-private classes 2-3x a week and also will stop by for open gym when I can. I joined iron & mettle three years ago and it has completely changed my relationship with fitness and with my body. There are no mirrors, no scales, and no talk about calories or diet culture. I had never lifted before coming in, and I am now completely and totally addicted.

The trainers are positive, encouraging, knowledgeable, super experienced, and adaptive to your individual needs. They’re all really well-versed in how age, anatomy, hormonal cycles, injuries, and life stages like pregnancy or menopause might affect your body and strength. I feel like at a lot of gyms they cater to folks in a specific age bracket, life stage, body type, etc., and I appreciate seeing how trainers here work with such a wide range of clients. I’ve also really been enjoying the specialized workshops they’ve been offering recently, with focuses like hypermobility, the pull-up clinic, hip extension, etc.

Thanks to the whole I&M team - and their perfect dogs!!!

Small, private, strength training gym geared toward women. I bought a 3-pack of three 1-hour intro classes for $300 total. My 1st class was focused on barbell squats, 2nd class was focused on bench press, and 3rd class will be focused on deadlifts.

My trainer has been very encouraging and focused on teaching me good form for each of the key exercises. During the intro sessions, I haven’t felt very challenged - but I think that’s because they’re focused on form for these classes. My friend has said that the semi-privates are better for a more challenging workout.

I've been working out with the BEST strength coach at Iron and Mettle now for almost two years. This is THE MOST supportive environment I've ever encountered in a "gym" - it is so much more than a place to work out. Women of any age, background, level of fitness can be assured that you'll be guided progressively to get stronger than you ever imagined was possible. Given I started at 57 years of age - I was blown away by how strong I could grow with the right coach, a mindful style, a mix of work outs so one never gets bored. And I LOVE that this is such a safe environment with NO focus on restrictive eating or body size- simply a focus on being the strongest fittest and most agile/mobile you can be. Plus there are great workshops, an ability to work out solo if your trainer has some much deserved time off and a true community feel! I've recruited friends who now join me or take classes on their own and everyone loves it. Grateful for this partnership in health and can't wait to see what the next two years brings in my growing strength and confidence!!! Thank you Danielle and Coach Kristi and the entire team - including the dogs! xoxo

Iron+Mettle is such an incredible training gym and Danielle is the best! I've been working with her for years and not only have I learned how to lift weights and strength train safely and effectively, but my confidence has grown so much and I'm constantly surprising myself with my ability to do hard things outside of my comfort zone.

Iron+Mettle is a gym specializing in women's strength training, and as a petite woman that finds regular gyms intimidating, training here has been a game changer. Danielle always approaches our sessions with so much thought and planning, adapts the workout as needed, has helped me build strength and recover through medical issues, and just continually pushes me, while still being positive, supportive, and encouraging.

The gym is also so cute and has special touches such as custom wall art, lots of pink, and themed change plates- all of which create such a fun and welcoming environment. I used to dislike working out, but in my several years of training here have grown to see it as an outlet- something I owe to Danielle and the really amazing community she has built here. Could not recommend this gym more!

I joined the open gym here and was BEYOND disappointed - in customer service, and also in equipment, hours, and so much more. They never showed me around the gym when I joined, there was one woman who seemed so bothered by me to have her show me where things were and to get the lay of the land. My key access never worked, they wouldn’t let me use the gym during a “6 person class” or even a 1/1 personal training, which left me paying close to equinox prices, for armpit hours to work out, and next to nothing in terms of gym equipment. For how much it’s “by women for women” the owner really didn’t “empower” women who couldn’t afford and/or need personal training. The greed in this city is unbelievable.

I love this gym! I worked with a personal trainer in my past life and wanted to find a gym that provided one-on-one attention without necessarily having a personal trainer, but I could have that option if needed. And the workout routine/exercises changes every month, which keeps things interesting.

I was only in SF for a few months, but I loved my time at Iron & Mettle. I have lifted in the past but had an unrelated back injury, so had stayed away for a few years, choosing bootcamp-style workouts instead. When I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted from boot camps and felt like the fast pace made me sloppy with form and aggravated my back, I decided to look for something else. I was staying near Iron & Mettle and found them on Google maps, and their women-focused, positive and friendly approach gave me the hope to try again. I started with their 3 personal training sessions which really helped me feel secure in my form. Then I moved on to group classes which have a great sense of camaraderie, are low pressure, and always focused on you doing what is safe and challenging for you, not competing with others. If I lived here I would never look for another gym! But I’m leaving SF with the confidence to keep lifting on my own, which is a place I didn’t think I’d be in in just a few months. Thank you to all the lovely trainers!

Iron and Mettle is a female owned and oriented space for weight training/power lifting. They offer both PT services and classes, and as a woman I think they are hands down the most welcoming and pleasant place I've ever worked out. Love this gym, so happy Kirstie is here training. I’ve trained with Kirstie for a few years now. She’s helped me rehabilitate my ankle after breaking it ( i literally trained with in my boot) now we’re able to do full circuit work outs that have made me strong enough to run & swim again. What I love about her methods is exactly that- She’s methodical and observant. It doesn’t feel like a contest but as soon as your body gets warmed up and awaken, you’re going! It’s fun & I leave feeling strong. Also, the atmosphere when you’re in the gym is a very “let’s get sh*t done”. Which makes it super motivational and gives you ideas for home work outs. Ok, that’s my rant. If you’re looking for a new gym, run don’t walk

The team at Iron + Mettle is amazing. The focus on building skills and executing moves with good form is perfect for newbies and experienced people. Instructors are knowledgeable and very well prepared for all sessions 1:1, couples and classes. You dictate the style of coaching you need - push to excel, set goals or accommodate an injury/limitation. No mirrors, no scales, no tape measure - your trainer is your monitor and mirror. This makes it easier to focus on your form and your body internally. At the end of every session I am amazed at the aerobic work accomplished in addition to the strength training. This is my second month with Iron + Mettle and I GENUINELY love this place. This is the first time in my 27 years of existence that I have worked out in a judgmental-free gym. As in no creepy dudes at this gym who watch you squat or the super cocky powerlifter who's silently judging you as you bench just the bar.

Here's the thing - You can work out by yourself and get your desired fitness/health/physique results. Absolutely. You can follow a workout on YouTube. You can search up specific exercises on Instagram and Google. But the coaches here will show you not only how to do a workout, but also why you do it, what the benefits of the workout are, & the science of it all.

It's only been 2 months and I feel like I'm getting stronger and much more confident. I love how this gym is focused in progressive strength training. I truly believe that I will be kicking ass at a male-dominant weight room in no time.

Thank you to the coaches at Iron & Mettle!

When I came to Iron and Mettle I had never touched a bar bell. This morning, I hip thrusted 135 lbs with the bar and I just keep progressing each week. Also, there's no scale in this gym, something I noticed immediately, but that supports Danielle's beliefs and hopes for women. Follow her insta and come in!

Danielle is a highly educated trainer with a refreshing take on health and wellness. She is accepting, encouraging, and motivates me to reach beyond my comfort zone. This place is more than a gym: it's a place for women to strengthen not only their bodies but also their mindsets. I love the feminine touches like the flower mural and pink weights. It's a beautiful place to work out.
