Good gym, good equipment , and convenient as far as moving from area to area. I have been working out at a high level for 40 years, with top trainers in small private gyms to the same at Golds. The people at Iron don't understand gym etiquette. It's a small gym and people should be aware and respectful. Instead they sit on a machine for five minutes playing with their phones. They do not understand that you need to do your set and let someone else work in, or complete yours and move on. The trainers also act as if they can own two stations at once. It's a MAJOR problem at Iron. Especially if you have limited time or just want to get a strength and cardio work out at the same time. The staff should stress this understanding and courtesy. If it doesn't change my wife and I will be cancelling membership

The worst customer service on earth. I called about a day pass and they immediately said it’s not free without even knowing I would pay. When I went in person they were rude and not pleasant and everything was dirty? Doesn’t seem to be a gym of different races as well. I don’t like it at all but mainly because of the customer service. Need to hear more friendly front desk people.

Every time I come in I greet whoever is at the front just out of sheer politeness and nearly every time I’m met with a blank stare then look away unless it’s a new person. I myself have been a personal trainer through NASM and worked at a gym in high school and have been to many gyms while traveling or working and for a gym with $149 per month membership the staff seem to not really care to at least be kind.

I’ve been a member here at IRON for more than a year and have the benefit of the doubt that the staff were potentially just having an off day but it’s gotten to the point where just two days ago I said hello to two of the front guys and they just straight up looked at me then looked away and continued talking amongst themselves?

Update: After I reached out to management and let them know about this issue there seems to be a significant improvement and really appreciate their receptiveness to feedback🙌🏽

I loved the gym it was a gem to find such a small family owned place that wasn’t overcrowded. My brother and I picked up a couple day passes cause we’re new to the area but staff was less than pleasant, my brother went as far as to say maybe micro aggressions. Staff was not welcoming, barely acknowledged us or was blatantly short. Following that however they would like weirdly walk past us to like scope us out like we were going to steal something. We were in normal gym attire, respectful, cleaned up machines after use. The not so funny exception was after I handed my card to pay for our passes the front desk person was a little more chill.

Great gym that’s always kept clean. It has all the equipment you could need, and there’s even an outdoor area. The staff are all friendly and helpful — they’ll even change the TV if there’s a game you want to watch. Awesome community vibe. Highly recommend!

This gym ranks at the very top in terms of convenience. The machines are all in close proximity and there is an additional outside section, which is great when the weather is warm.

IRON Gym is an amazing gym!! It’s always kept clean, well organised, and never feels too crowded. The equipment is well-maintained, and there's plenty machines, free weights, and open space including an outside area!! Everything you need and more… The staff are great, approachable and always willing to help if you need something. The state of the art recovery room is a game changer for me! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Gym has totally fallen apart in recent times. Management has become extremely rude and killed the chill vibe this location had. The equipment is dirty and run down as the location has not invested in any maintenance or upkeep. Their classpass policies are also totally absurd for a gym of such small sizes. The neighborhood has way better gyms at way better rates with way better staff

Found Iron Fitness thanks to a friend using ClassPass. Dropped in for a lift and was really glad I did. This place has everything you might need.. and is awesome. Outdoor area with weights and plenty of open space, a ‘slam ball against wall’ section, upstairs cardio equipment, tons of strength free weights and newer machinery first floor.. everything was clean (so you felt good being there) and the space wasnt crowded at all

Brian at the front desk went above board to ensure we were looked after, big kudos!

The gym is small but has all of the things you need and is clean. In my experience it never feels overly crowded/overwhelming (though I suppose it depends on what time you come in). I've been coming here for about 6 months. I usually don't have to wait long or at all for a machine/station to be available. Parking is included which is nice.
My main complaint is that I wish they were open later on the weekends and week days.

Great gym, have been training here for over 2 years now. Members are great and so are most of the staff. Parking situation is great, which could be a pain at many gyms in the city or they try to charge extra. Huge variety of quality equipment, lots of free weights, and different areas to do different things. Quality cardio equipment too, a handful technogym treadmills, stair master, several bikes, assault bikes, Jacob’s ladder, etc. Outdoor area one of my favorite parts about the gym, I love working out under the sun.

And during my time here, you can tell the owner really cares about his gym, because he continues to reinvest in it on a regular bases, whether it was expanding the outdoor area, or adding additional free weights, changing out machines that’ve reached their useful life, and by adding to the overall offering. Personally, I don’t like working out in a huge mall-like environment, I like to zone in and get an efficient workout in, in a clean, well equipped, and welcoming environment.

My only two constructive comments would be, I believe the recovery room should be included in the membership fees, and they should charge people who book it a la cart who aren’t members, such as via ClassPass. And secondly, I wish they’d open at 5am again and close at 10pm M-F, and close at 7pm on the weekends instead of 5pm.

Great gym for lifting weights. They have a lot more free weight equipment than the average gym and I never have to wait around for a squat rack. Cool little outdoor area too is fun to use to get some fresh air while working out. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves free weights

Iron Fitness SM is an excellent place to call your “gym home.” The facility is well kept and clean, with a terrific collection of equipment to give your muscles the variety it needs to build a stronger body. The equipment is well maintained and in great condition. Members, trainers and staff respectful and the weights are always returned the the right place. Important for those who have ever trained at gyms where you cannot find matching dumbbells. Definitely a top notch fitness facility! And…there is free parking available!

A very dirty gym. I asked multiple times to have someone clean it better. When I talked to the owner in person on my last day he didn’t even bother to spend an extra minute of his time to do a walk around and immediately dismissed all my complaints.
I have never seen such a strong resistance to make the place better. The bathroom is literally filthy, but the owner said “it was not possible”. It was so dirty I had to take paper towels and wipe down the sinks.
I cancelled my membership as I refuse to literally be sitting in a pile of someone else’s hair that has been lying around for weeks.

Editing my rating to add the details that are necessary. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! They use dirty tactics to trap you into a contract that’s never actually provided to you. The only way to cancel a membership is to call the phone number in the contract you sign on day 1. That contract is never provided via email nor hard copy so good luck getting a hold of anyone to cancel. I also don’t recommend any personal training from here. I never got what I was promised from the trainer. No personalized workouts or meal plans that I paid $500 for. This whole place is a scam. I tried having an adult conversation with the ‘Accounts Manager’ but she’s been rude, refuses to acknowledge that I never got what I paid for and lied about having provided me with a valid contract. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that’s actually worth the headache.

In town for a few days for work and figured I would give this place a try. This is a no frills gym but it's clean and has an outdoor area as well. Loved that it was a no nonsense kind of place. Not trying to impress anyone except those that are serious about getting a workout in. I came back the next day as well. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in town. Towels, lockers and showers were also included. Heavy bags to hit and plenty of kettle bells if that's your thing.

The gym has really strict rules that are not accommodating for powerlifting. There is no chalk allowed in the gym, no bags allowed on the gym floor, and management can be really rude if you do not know the rules (they don’t tell you them until after you sign up). The place was also very overpriced for a small gym with all amenities used as up-charges. The only solution for me was to cancel my membership.

I’m a visitor for 1 month. Expensive for 1 month at $200, especially given the level of service and facilities. They rarely have any towels (and the ones they have are tattered). The staff don’t even know the password to their wifi network. They’re college age.

Pros: Equipment is fine. Not new. Generally clean. Not too overcrowded.

Since the lockdowns ended, Equinox was getting too busy for me to justify the ~$300 a month cost. Iron LA is equidistant from me and half the cost. To be Frank, I’ve always been more of the “let’s just workout” type than the “let’s hang out, hit the sauna, shower, talk to the girls, etc.” so it was a pretty easy transition for me.

Iron has basically everything you need, although for some essential workouts there’s only one machine (ie Incline Barbell), so I end up modifying my workout on the spot more often. With that being said, there’s plenty of squat racks. Cardio section and stretch/ab sections are good and never full.

I visited here on Sunday, 07/12/2020, one day before they closed again due to government regulations regarding COVID-19. They gave me a free day pass to check them out.

The gym has two floors and is equipped with everything you will find at any other gym; treadmills, rowing machines (only one), weights, dumbbells, kettlebells, med balls, etc. This is a quiet place to work out, and free parking at the back. Easy to get in and out. Women's restrooms were clean. You will likely find this gym run-down if you come from Equinox Club.
The bottom line, this is a basic, no-frills gym.

Hesitate to give the 5 stars it deserves because I don't want it to get overly crowded. Nice community, all the equipment you could want or need. Recovery room on-site, and parking! Downside would be small bathroom/shower area but I don't use that but in case you do, it's available but small. Love the outdoor space too. I spend most of my workout outside pretty much solo.

Excellent facilities, very professional staff and management. Couldn’t have been happier with my experience at IRON Santa Monica. I joined in Sept 2021 and with the help of my trainer Brandon I was able to shed 80 pounds in less than eight months … steady and sustainable weight loss and consistent progress. I would recommend IRON and Brandon to anyone starting out on a fitness journey or wanting to go to the next level of strength and power.

In the area for a bit and the SM equinox was too small with only 2 squat racks. Signing up here was smooth and easy. Plenty of dedicated parking behind the gym. The gym is setup/designed very nicely with the cardio machines on the 2nd floor and lots of open space for on the 1st for people who want to do lunges and the sort. The ceiling is very high which is always good for a gym so it doesnt get too hot and loud. Lots of dumbbells, a few isolation machines, a small turfed area where I've noticed people stretch or do HIIT type of workouts, and a small outdoor area. Towels are provided and while the shower area is small they are clean and feel nice.

My favorite part, they have 3 squat racks/platforms with padded weightlifting area suitable for deadlifting and olympic lifts. The platforms have Eleiko bumper plates and extra barbells. Most of the barbells are decent quality with nice knurling. Would be nice if they had some powerbars and a deadlift jack. I dont like their bench press setup as the bench height is way too low to get properly positioned. Also not a fan of the TVs. Their ceiling ventilation leaks. Hasn’t been fixed for the whole month I’ve been here. Also the rack near the back has a funky smell that’s been there for a month as well. Notified front desk but not resolved.

It's always very clean and I usually notice a staff member putting plates back which is a great touch. The water fountain isnt very good with the water pressure being low. The few people I've met have been nice and considerate. Everyone seems respectful of each other and the space. Great experience so far and plan to continue going for the next month!

Iron Fitness is the best boutique gym I've ever been to. Since being in LA, I've been a member of Equinox, Trifit, 24 hr Fitness and the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Besides the convenience in west LA / Santa Monica, I settled on Iron because of the great environment and staff.
It's really clean and comfortable, with all the equipment you need, whether you're a serious lifter or an endurance athlete. While I don't use any of the personal trainers myself, I see them with other loyal clientele all the time...a good sign that people love them.

Iron Fitness would have been one of the best things that could have ever happened to me, had it not be for the abnoxiously loud music, penetrating every cell of your body, invading the privacy of your mind and emotional life! This is true especially if you are there to focus on your workout without the need for super hyper stimulation from music! Otherwise, it is an absolutely fantastic gym. Staff is friendly, polite, helpful, and accommodating. The size of the gym is neither too big nor too small. It is equipped with all that is expected of a good gym. The set up is wonderful and they have made great use of the space. It is well maintained and is kept clean. The abandoned weights are regularly put back in place by the staff so that one doesn't have to walk about looking for them! If one of the staff notices that you are looking for something, they will help you find it. Overall, the gym has a private feel to it as it is never too crowded, and its members are nice, polite, and friendly. I only wish they would keep the music at a more civilized and non-intrusive level so that one would feel that they are in a gym and not a club!

Ive been a member of IRON Santa Monica for the last three years and literally fell in love with the space and the vibe the first time I walked in. IRON truly stands outing in that it truly is a boutique gym. Iron has a number of great attributes. It offers all the equipment one can possible ask for, has a great friendly community vibe, has a outdoor workout area with a workout sled, has an excellent personal training program as well as a KILLER boxing program. Private showers, towel service, wide open space with 25’ ceilings, and the gym never feels over crowded that one couldn't get access to a squat rack or any other machine they need. The layout is very fluid with the cardio equipment located an upstairs balcony over looking the main gym floor, and the boxing area located in its own intimate studio area on the lower level. Group training as well as boxing classes are offered on a daily basis in the mornings, noon and evenings. They run a variety of programs like FITin42, 4-week shred etc that literally help everyone not only achieve their fitness goal but make long lasting changes in their nutritional habits. Recently they added neuromuscular therapy services that are more than worth checking out in case your body might ache somewhere. I would recommend IRON to anyone looking for a fitness facility that not only helps their members achieve their individual goals (strength, hypertrophy, fat loss etc.) but takes a holistic mind, body & soul approach. I know many members who have been members since the gym opened and say they will never leave, as I don’t plan on ever leaving Iron as long as I live in LA. They’ve also recently opened up a second location in Brentwood that is also a top facility.

FROM A GYM NEWBIE: As someone who has always hated gyms and who has only recently started training at one, I can say that IRON Fitness Gym is a wonderful place to get your sweat on. Even though there are a lot of ridiculously fit regulars, it's not an intimidating place because everyone is friendly and supportive. It's small enough that staff and patrons really know each other (unlike at mega gyms, to which I have had memberships before and not wanted to use). For example, it's not unusual to get a high five walking out the door. It's also big enough to have a great assortment of top-of-the-line equipment and other fun work out options--including some outdoors. Importantly, the space is kept very clean. Finally, a major shout out to my amazing and expert trainer, Julia!
