As I was heading to the doorway after a good yoga class, an old white guy blocked my path. As I tried to move past him he said, "You're going the wrong way, this is America." The blatant racism by the patron had no push-back by the other white people and made it clear that Asians, in my case are seen as others who don't belong. I am cancelling my membership today.

Gloria was amazing at the front desk! She was patient and explained my question in detail. I really appreciate her customer service. We just signed up and Iβm glad she assisted me with kindness and care. Great customer service Gloria!

1st time joining this gym, the black lady (sorry I didnβt get her name) has a nasty attitude, perhaps thought I didnβt speak English, to her surprise I caught her mumble under her breath. Not the person to have at the front desk or perhaps should get retrained for customer service etiquette.

Edit!!! 8/27/2025
This place is awful. Nobody wipes the machines when they are done anymore. Its disgusting. People sitting around scrolling away on the phones. Nobody enforces the rules. I waited 8 minutes for a senior citizen to get off her phone then use the machine.
Then the pool staff.... someone that doesn't know your child or has ever interacted with them to pass judgment and make negative comments about your child right in front of them. Sir you are a teenager, do not speak on anyone's child. The swim lessons always start late and finish right on time. 100's of dollars down the drain. Still can't swim. Does not feel family friendly at all.

I would love it. But i feel like there is a unwritten plan. I do not feel included. Almost, if i am an uncomfortable unconvince. For the price it should feel way more inclusive. Some of the seniors are very entitled and rude. I only have a limited time to work out. A couple of older gentlemen have told me, "i cannot use the equipment because they "planned on using it". Not cool. Not acceptable. I can't tell grown adults how to act. My son is doing swim lessons there. I want to n be comfortable doing classes here. We are here to stay. I want to feel more comfortable

I am an employee at an out-of-state YMCA and drove an hour from Livermore to use this pool for lap swimming, so my 6 year old daughter could swim on a hot sunny day with her grandmother we are visiting.
My daughter was denied access as a Nationwide member, or for a purchased day pass. To be clear, I am allowed to use the facility as a Nationwide member, and my mother, also able, with the purchase of a day pass, but my daughter is disallowed unless she has a local membership.
This is very discriminatory, and is extremely disappointing, considering the YMCAβs mission.

I'm a pool exerciser. Go to swim laps and do aerobics. If only they'd hire some more good teachers! They already have "The Best" in Rachel J., but we need her for the 1:30 classes, at LEAST 2X a week, please!! Rachel is a seriously competent and skilled teacher. Her workouts are thoughtfully planned with variation in mind and exercises that work different body parts, utilizing pool edge, and hand floats.

We joined the Pleasant Hill YMCA in August 2024, excited to be part of the community, but unfortunately, our experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The staff, particularly Nannette, demonstrated poor communication and unprofessionalism, repeatedly mishandling our childrenβs swim lesson schedules. Despite confirming changes multiple times, we arrived only to find our childrenβs names missing from the roster.
When I raised concerns, I was met with rude behavior, including being told to stop bringing my kids to lessons just to βavoid her mistakes.β This treatment left us feeling unwelcome and disrespected. We wonβt be returning.

The staff acting ignorant as I've proved my service dog allowance in the facility, they badgered me 3 times within a half an hour and definitely lost a customer.
It's been hours and I've made 3 requests to talk to the manager, 5pm now and I'm still waiting.

I am frustrated at the lack of open hours, especially with them closing at 5pm on a weekend. Considering the cost of the membership compared to others, they should have more accessible hours to come in and workout. Front desk staff is great others are ok

On December 2023, I contacted the YMCA at Pleasant Hill to ask for information about their baby swimming classes. On the phone they told me that they have an indoor pool and that my husband could alternate and go in the pool with me even if he is not a member.
With this information, in January 2024 I decided to become a member and to enroll my little one on the swimming class. Today it was the first class and, when we get there, by my surprise, they tell me that the classes are in an outdoor pool and that, as my husband is not an active member, he can't get in the pool.
I was really upset about this, so, when I went outside and mentioned it to what seems to be the pool coordinator, she apologized and said that she would understand if we leave or that we could try the lesson as we were there and she could talk to the manager to give us a refund. She mentioned that she would get my information and that we would talk about it after the class.
I told her that, as we drove all the way there, we would like to stay. In the class, there were 2 instructors and 2 other toddlers with their parents. We had taking swimming lessons before at another locations so we knew what the class was about. Instructors didn't seem to know what they were doing and one of the other parents were surprised that the class was outdoors too.
After 15 minutes of class, all families decide to take the kids out because it was freezing and they were shivering.
After we get out and change, I went out and talk to the coordinator and she tells me that she talked to the manager and they say that because I went into the pool (when she was the one who offered it in the first place) , they can't give us a refund. They offered us credit for the reminding of the lessons towards the membership (when I had already mentioned that we didn't live there and that we weren't interested in continuing).
I am sure this wasn't the coordinators first day working there and I'm pretty sure she knew the policy. She basically tricked us and told us lies to get into the water, knowing that we wouldn't get anything that way. She should have told us up front, not to get into the pool so we could get our money back.

I have been taking my niece and nephew here for swim lessons. We are on week 2 and while the pool is lovely it is chaotic. As someone who was not at all familiar with the facility, there are no signs directing you where to park, where to enter or where the pool is located.
Once inside there was no information on where the swim lessons were other than being told to go to the pool. The first week, I asked the teacher who was in the pool if I needed to check the kids in or how we get started. She didn't know had to ask so we wasted their lesson time getting things sorted out. They had set up tandem lessons for the kids rather than at the same time which was different from the email we had received. Then week 2 of lessons they switched instructors on us with no notice only saying the other instructor wasn't there.
On the positive side, my niece loves working with Derek. The instructors have tolerated my nephew's half hour of screaming and protesting.

LEAVING HERE UPSET! Update! 3/02/2023 Tried to use the childcare and they couldnt handle the amount of small children in there and we could hear our daughter sobbing, after abot 21 minutes we left and were charged for the full hour, they have not been very considerate or helpful at the levels of management thus far. Awaiting a call back.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:So there hottub is broken, empty, no date on when it will be working... they've removed the sauna and the racketball courts inside. The skatepark many years ago as well. It has been a place I've gone to since I was a very young child for child care and has been on a steady decline. Sad to say. Even the childcare is OVERPRICED, at 36 PER CHILD PER MONTH. At $6/per hour per child the maximum $36 monthly is per child NOT per family and thats over $100 additional a month, if i want to bring my kids during workout friendly childtimes which are only M W F 9- 11am... won't allow you to switch which child can attend the childcare as part of the $36/monthly threshold. I am part of a family membership for which I am grateful but this facility is the only option locally with a pool. The pool is not child friendly and they ALWAYS have the lap lanes up, even during "family swim" which only allowd my small children and I to wade around the stairs or one length of the pool. They've been twice (ages 2&4) and are already getting very bored and prefer to play in the hot showers over the pool it seems.
YMCA you can do SO MUCH BETTER

Love the array of equipment, but wish the child care was open again.
My friends & colleagues are signing up for the many other gyms which have reopened their child care services. When I asked the front desk person why they haven't, she said they're waiting on child vaccinations. Ummm...kids can get vaccinated now.

They've got an outdoor pool that's very well-maintained and the staff are total sweethearts. During Covid times, they've been good and consistent with safety protocols, to the point where it's probably the most comfortable/safe place I've been in besides my own house. Before Covid times, they've got a good weight machine setup and a bunch of good basketball courts.

I had been a member off and on for several years and had nothing to complain about until Covid happened. They continued to charge my credit card every month while everyone else I knew did not get charged. I kept sending messages asking them to freeze my account. When they increased my monthly fees, in the middle of the pandemic, I had to file a claim with my credit card to assist me with getting my money back

Top Notch workout facility! Very clean! Staff are friendly, professional and courteous. The best YMCA in the Northern California region and BayArea, maybe all of California. I need a place to go to workout with a heated pool and all the modern and upgraded machines at my disposal, so big it never seems crowded or full. Everyone is friendly and respectful. Nothing bad to say about it at all.

New layout since last week. Not sure why they decided to put the free weights in these weird rows, great idea, now a single person using the free weights stops anyone else in the gym from accessing them. You also need to workout in a clump. Old layout made way more sense and left everything accessible.

We signed up about 6 months ago, in the beginning they had a nice selection of classes, programs and equipment. Lately we have seen a lot of staff turn over, dropped classes and program cuts. Not sure if this is a management issue, a budget issue, or a sign of a tight job market. We hope things improve.

THE BEST PLACE TO BE AT!!!
I met this guy Michael Thomas who is an associate at the YMCA. This guy was so polite and he helped me out and answered all my questions regarding the gym and the prices. The YMCA is a very high quality and well maintained gym. These people know how to treat their members right. There are no hidden fees and the prices are just right for myself and my siblings!

I've been going here since I was little, but recently the staff has been very strict about non-members waiting for rides outside and being a rude towards the kids. All members are required to stay inside for some reason. If there are benches outside why is NO ONE allowed to use them? If I pay for a membership why am I directed on where I can be?

Amazing gym with amazing staff! I love this place! PLEASE THOUGH! I'm looking at the site right now and it says you're open till 8pm. Picture below. I just called and the voicemail says nothing about you closing early today! This has happened on a number of occasions, people cross town only to walk up to shut doors. It's fine if you're going to be closed, but please make this clear on your web page and on your voicemail. It's gotten to the point that me and my family don't know when you close early without digging and digging through people for info. This is not a deal breaker for sure, just you really should know how this negatively affects people and their plans. Here's a pic of what is on the site right now on 12/31/16 at 4:32pm. We don't mind you being closed, just please make that information more available. Happy New Year:-)!

This place is a great lax environment and highly suitable for families. The male staff are openly cheerful and courteous. The women that work here do not talk to anyone unless they are training someone and that person usually looks unhappy.
The downside is that people who actually want to lift weights can become bombarded by disabled seniors, teenagers, and people who seldom come to the gym. People leave weights wherever they please and do not bother wiping down their own sweat off the machines. Girls and sometimes boys can be seen sitting on a machine just plain staring into their smart phone. People will use an adjustable bench for flat bench purposes even when there is a stationary flat bench sitting right next to them.
I understand this is a family gym, although it would be nice to see the staff accomodate more for the usual gym goers, which use the gym the most, by mandating stricter gym rules...maybe even add a radio in the weight room.
