Used to love coming here, but new owners have completely changed how things are run and feel. This used to be a cute neighborhood gym, with a population that leaned a little older. Everyone regardless of age or fitness level felt welcome here and many had been working out together for 10+ years. You walked in and immediately felt like you were working out amongst close friends and family.

In the past few months the new owners have tripled the cost of membership, restricted access to classes, ushered out teachers who have been here for years, and curated a completely different vibe.

Pure intensity rather than community is the name of the game here now. That may be what some people are looking for in a gym, but not me nor the many members who have left.

This place is going down hill fast. New owner is a real piece of work. Tripled the rates and getting rid of popular workout classes and child care. He's never there either. He's got no clue what ACTUALLY is happening in the gym and his business partners are just as clueless. They claim to be about community and have shown nothing to back up that claim.

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, get a bike, go outside for a hike, buy yourself some equipment, anything else than give this place business.

I absolutely love this gym in Simi Valley! It has become my favorite among the four memberships I hold. The cleanliness and organization are top-notch, creating a pleasant and intimate atmosphere. I have been going to this place for the past few, overall it's a good gym but sometimes I don't feel like breathing here, I don't run the Air conditioner or air circulation often which leads to a sweaty and unpleasant breathing.

Jeremy, the owner, is a money hungry with no intentions of running an honest business. If you cancel your membership, all the hidden charges that he can come up with will appear… he will make sure to try to steal your money. He will harass you by calling frequently, message you, and threaten you by reporting to credit bureau. Don’t be scared! he cannot do anything with your credit and can always dispute this lies. He lures people to sign up. You will sign up, you would think it’s peaceful to work out because of no crowd (I know the real reason now), after working out once or twice, you will find out that the gym is very small with a hostile environment, so you will now cancel and that’s how he makes his money. THAT’S HIS BUSINESS PLAN. Please stay away from this place and DON’T PUT YOURSELF in situations, such as this one, that you can definitely avoid.

Manager is one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with in a customer service roll. Read the fine print, they will not let you cancel, they will avoid you at all costs to make it almost impossible to cancel. Horrible customer service, and down right sneaky. Go to any other gym besides this one.

Good equipment, but it seems like they’ve set up their cancellation policy in order to squeeze their customers for money. Since June, I’ve emailed 2-3 times, called 3 times, and left 2 voicemails trying to cancel since I’m no longer in the country. They *did not* respond to these and kept charging me each month. In August they finally answered and told me about the “in person cancellation” rule. Thanks to my mom for going in person to argue, they finally cancelled it (on her second visit, since on her first visit they told her that only a manager could approve a cancellation and surprise, surprise, no manager was there that day). No refund, since the contract says the cancellation must be done in person. And you bet they are going to charge me next month too because of the 30-day notice rule.

Since it’s likely Jeremy or someone will comment back to this saying it’s all in the contract along with some other excuse: my point is it would of been nice to email or call back regarding my many cancellation requests, instead of just continuing to charge me for months. :)

Money scam

I called a 6 weeks ago to cancel. Was told by a nice friendly employee that he would take care of the cancellation. The following month, I received a charge on my card. I immediately called and spoked to Isabel (who was rude) and she stated that my membership has not been canceled. I then ask Isabel if she will help with the issue since I cancelled last month. She informed me that she cannot help me and I need to do the cancellation in person. I informed her that I had moved and this was very inconvenient. So she passes it to Jeremy her boss. In a text, he says I can write a letter and mail it. I realize that this is just to spread the time out. So I called again and asked to speak to Jeremy was told he leaves at three. The next morning I decided to go in the store making an extra 45 minute drive before I have to go to work at nine l. I get to Islands Gym at 8:00 this morning and I’m told by Isabel I can’t cancel until the manager gets there at 10:30. I WAS IN THE GYM PHYSICALLY AND WAS DENIED CANCELING!

Went to this morning to get a quote on their membership waited in the front desk for over 5 mins and no one came out to help me so I ask a member if theirs anyone in the front was told that their in the office was nice enough to offer to get them I said don’t bother I’m pretty they saw me standing here and they still didn’t come out very disappointed! I was recommended this place was excited but now left a bad taste 😤 off to planet fitness gym to get some quote!

Great choice of equipment . Not to big not to small. Best feature they sell monthly memberships. In oTher words if you are in town for an extended visit, you can buy a membership for 50- a month with no obligation. Dont know of any other gym that will do that!!

Great local underrated gym. It’s easy to sign up, no extra/hidden sign up fees, & it’s kept nice. It’s never busy and there’s plenty of equipment for everyone. They have cybex, and life fitness machinery.

The manager Jeremy is very rude and made my brother feel very uncomfortable when he tried cancelling our memberships. My brother paid for both of our memberships and he wasn’t going to let him cancel mine and argued with my brother until he finally just canceled it. We were on the month to month plan so it should have been no problem. Then he proceeded to talk down to my brother saying we should have been going to the gym more often. Very unprofessional and rude, I do not recommend this gym. We have switched to a different gym in Simi and love it.

I’ve been going to the gym for over 50 years. After going to Island Fitness my expectations were met. The equipment is maintained and clean, which is very reassuring during these trying times. More so, the atmosphere is very inviting and I am met by professional staff. Island Fitness is the place to go for all your fitness needs

If I could give no stars I would. This is a money hungry gym! We signed up our daughter with explanation that it would be a temporary membership ( Month to Month ), Manager seems to have forgot and demanding I pay 1 year contract to cancel. I explained the conversation and calls that were made within the 3 day period to acknowledge month to month confirmation. Manager was able to locate some notes after some digging around about the Month to Month agreement. I would never suggest anyone to go here. Manger is shady! Attempts to ask questions that are to none of his concern. Cancel means Cancel!!! Support other local Gyms!!!

Hidden fees and bad management are all you find at this gym. The owner will try to swindle you for your money during the Quarantine and hide when you have a problem with something so it never get resolved. Was recommend by a friend and I regret it and now they do to. Go to 24hr or Crunch for a better quality gym with friendly employees.

Best gym in Simi! My whole family works out here, the equipment is up to date and always clean. The best part are the trainer's! Dan Craft is "the man" Out of all the personal trainer's that we have encountered at Islands Dan is Golden! Not only does he possess supreme aptitude in his field, Kinesiology, he does it with such kind fortitude that it makes a newbie feel like they can accomplish great things. I personally have suffered with lower back pain for 20 years. Physical therapy was always an option but just a band-aid. Working with Dan twice a week for six weeks was a game changer. I can honestly say he has taught me the tools to get stronger significantly with little or no more pain. Now most days I am pain free! Love this gym!

I only got As far as asking the manager for a price list which he couldn't give me without doing the 20-minute walk around tour which I had no interest in since I wasn't there to take classes or use their facilities just treadmill and weights to which she sarcastically threw out two numbers which I don't remember but when I asked him to explain what those numbers were he essentially told me I was wasting his time in the comeback when I had more time to take the tour and he would explain to me what the numbers were then so I went to 24 Hour Fitness and got a price list right away I found out you can get a $16 a month deal if you go through Costco so that's what I'm doing. Really makes you wonder why this place is so afraid to give people their prices up front, must be pretty high 🤔

The new owners have done a fantastic remodel. I love the feeling of having everything I need and a staff of pure Professionals. The true factors that sold me I have written above but there is something I didn't grasp at first. Island's greatest quality is by becoming a member you never have to set foot in one of those "big box" gyms again.

I like this gym! It's appears clean, there's no waiting time on the equipment and the equipment is all newer! The spin bikes are the best ones I've been on yet! The two rowing machines are also the bom! The weight room has just about no waiting time, to use the weights or the universal type gym equipment. The instructors seem friendly and adequate...I need more class time there before I can decide, what they're like. I am an enrollee in the Core Barre and Island package. I absolutely love Core Barre! I'm so glad Island Health And Fitness has this offering! Melissa, Heidi, Lauren and Katelyn are the best instructors! The core classes are fun and energetic and a great full body workout! My body has become fitter and stronger due primarily to Core Barre. I need weights, and other cardio for variation, and so I signed on with IHAF. I said goodbye to my old gym, where I was a member for about 18 years! They just couldn't offer me what I wanted any longer. Hello to new experiences, and a new way!

Was a member for several years, discontinued about a year ago. Loved the atmosphere and location, the personal-screen cardio machines, and the towel service. But it was a death of a thousand cuts for me (or maybe only a handful).

Towel service became stingy, you used to be able to help yourself to what you needed, from little hand towels for working out to medium ones for showering. But it changed to having to ask someone at the front desk and sign your name each time. It felt like they were treating you like a thief and a child.

They'd add on random fees, for "equipment restocking," $50 if I recall correctly, which were not otherwise part of your membership, with the only notice being a chalkboard in the gym. Hey just so you know, we're charging everyone more money this month just cause we feel like it (hyperbole, not the wording of the sign). There was at least one other mysterious charge for a random $15 that I wouldn't have even known about if I didn't check my credit statement. Maybe that was their way of accusing me of towel theft?

The personal-screen machines lost most of their channels, rendering them useless. They could have been reprogrammed, but no one bothered for at least 6 months, if ever. Sounds small, but this was one of the main selling points for me. Cardio while watching a personal little TV was fun.

When I tried to negotiate my membership, they were inflexible. I was even interested in adding family members! I inquired about previous price promotions of theirs and they would try to gaslight me and deny these promotions ever existed, then launch into a spiel about their current prices and promotions, as if hoping I'd forget what I was asking. Beyond rude and condescending.

Today was the last straw, leading to this review. I was interested in giving them another chance, having just received a promotion coupon in the mail ($20 month to month). I called to inquire about it, and they said they had no idea what I was talking about, and launched into another lengthy spiel about their ordinary prices. I described the promotional mailer and he all but called me a liar. I asked to speak to someone else, he said he was a manager. I asked when I could speak to someone else, he gave me no information.

Goodbye, Island H&F. You had so much potential, but unfortunately your managers ruined it. I'll stick with my current gym instead.
