Iyengar yoga is the real deal and Richard is the best yoga teacher Iβve ever had. With its focus on fine-tuning postures, Iyengar yoga, along with Richardβs expert instruction, builds a real sense of bodily awareness and sharpens the mind. You will work, and not in a huffing and puffing music blaring type way, but in a real grounded, introspective way and it will be well worth it. I walk away from a class at the Iyengar Yoga Studio (IYSSB) with a sense of bodily and mental peace and harmony.
IYSSB also has a very inclusive and supportive community that welcomes beginners and people of all types. I have been to most other yoga studios in SB, and IYSSB is the one I recommend.

Rich is the best yoga teacher in town. I've been practicing yoga since 1981; had classes with many teachers, as well as attended many workshops. I've taken basic and advanced teacher training at White Lotus. He's the best teacher of all.

I have very conflicted feelings about this studio.
TL;DR: go here if you're serious about developing a deep yoga practice beyond what your run-of-the-mill studio offers, but you won't be impressed by their business practices.
Richard, the main yoga teacher and only person I've taken classes with, is wonderful. He's very skilled and mindful of helping improve your asana practice. He's wise enough to give you good advice if you ask for it, and you will be hard pressed to find a better teacher in this area. Trust me, I've tried.
On the other hand, customer service is clearly not this studio's number one priority. There have been a few situations in the 3 times I've visited this studio that have left me appalled.
For example, one time a new student dropped into the studio and asked about their pricing. The manager Emma-Jane was extraordinarily brash about explaining their rates. The potential student was visibly taken aback and immediately left without purchasing any classes, probably to go tell all her friends about her negative experience here.
Their pricing policy leaves a lot to be desired. They are cash only, offering meager discounts if you choose to purchase 5 or 10 classes series. In small writing, they say the series is good for 30 or 60 days.
Having not noticed this, I was very surprised to find out that two classes I had not used within the 30 day window expired on me. You can imagine my dismay at having lost $36 I prepaid for two classes.
There's nothing inherently wrong with them prioritizing great yoga classes over customer service, but great customer service is certainly not a priority here. You've been warned!
