I came to Pilates with some hesitation – I had never tried it before and honestly thought it was “something for women.” I decided to give it a shot while going through chemo, when I was bedridden and looking for a way to rebuild strength. Over the course of more than twenty private sessions with Evan, she has helped me regain strength in my legs and the rest of my body during treatment and into remission. It’s challenged me in ways I didn’t expect, improved my posture, and given me a whole new appreciation for this form of exercise.

Evan is a real character in the best possible way. She’s done her homework to understand my condition and my limitations, and she always knows exactly how far to push me. Her adjustments are spot on – sometimes she’ll have me tweak the tiniest movement and suddenly an entirely new muscle lights up. On top of that, she’s sharp, funny, and wonderfully direct. She remembers little details from weeks earlier, isn’t afraid to be a smart-ass, and can go on rants that are both hilarious and wise. If you’re open to her sense of humor (and sometimes a little bit of colorful language), you’ll enjoy the sessions even more.

With her background as a dancer and stuntwoman, Evan brings a unique perspective and depth of experience to her teaching. The studio itself is no-frills – which I see as a plus. It’s not about chasing a “scene,” it’s about learning from someone who’s a true expert in Pilates and anatomy.

I can’t recommend Evan and Jack and Jill Pilates enough, especially if you’re serious about building strength and want someone who really knows what they’re doing.

After being housebound for almost 20 years with chronic illness, little did I know that I would find Evan, who was not only willing to take on the chance, but also the challenge of teaching and training my very deconditioned body. From my very first private session in August 2025, I knew I had found a teacher unlike any other.

She is dedicated, sharp, and wise—a wonderful mix of wit and warmth. Her attention to detail is extraordinary, her memory remarkable, and her teaching style both gentle and precise. What moved me most was her willingness to go above and beyond: she even researched my condition, Chiari, so she could truly understand how best to support me on my journey back to living fully.

Working with her is not just about Pilates—it is an immersion into awareness itself. She weaves in insights from Feldenkrais, recommending gems like Awareness Through Movement and The Elusive Obvious, so that each session becomes something richer than exercise alone. She helps reconnect the mind and body in ways that modern life often erodes.

And yet, she is also refreshingly real: funny, grounded, and not afraid to call you out when you need it—which I love. Every session feels like a blessing, a gift of both learning and laughter.

If you are thinking about joining her classes, don’t hesitate. Show up. You may discover, as I did, that it is exactly what you need—body, mind, and spirit.

Jack and Jill Pilates is a phenomenal boutique studio.

Owner Evan is the very best instructor and follower of Joseph Pilates techniques.

I was told by my physical therapist to find a Pilates studio where the teachers are ballet dancers who have been injured and used Pilates as rehabilitation. And the owner Evan is a stuntwoman and dancer who rehabbed her own injuries.

Evan’s instruction focuses on muscle groups and building strength in areas prone to injury. Her workouts are tough, and I’m sore after but my abs and gluts look amazing!

Owner is a character and expect a monologue strait of a Tarantino movie during class.

This studio is exactly what I was looking for. Before, I had been taking large group classes where I was worried about getting hurt from doing complicated exercises, never having my form corrected, and being pushed to go hard and then feeling awful later. I was looking for something where the teacher really cares about you and really understands what they're asking you to do in the class.

Evan has a boutique studio where she really cares about her students and each class has only five spots. She gives very specific instructions, not minding repeating herself, and cares about your progress and what you're doing. Evan encouraged me to start out with private sessions, which I was unsure of at first due to the cost, but am really glad I have.

I've worked with trainers 1x1 before and the focus and care she puts in to our sessions are at another level with the thought put behind each session. In the private sessions, she's very focused and constantly watching my form and giving constant corrections from holding tension in my neck to if I'm moving my foot to compensate when squeezing my legs. Evan cares deeply for the pilates philosophy and craft and takes the time to teach the why and the how.

This studio focuses more on how you feel than how you look. There are no mirrors. When learning a new form, it's more about how you feel, which muscles are being used and where, and putting in the full effort with every move. Along with her teaching, Evan takes the time to remind us to be present with our body and to appreciate it.

If you're interested in learning about pilates or growing more in it, a session with Evan is well worth a try. She cares about pilates and cares for people.

Evan is one of the best if not the best pilates instructor I have ever taken class from. I will caution her teaching style is not for everyone. She has a reverence for the pilates practice that has been lost in the modern day lagree or larger pilates classes. Definitely let go of your ego when you get to class. I've been a pilates student for almost 15 years and I've been a teacher myself for almost 5. Every class I learn something new and a new method to move my body in a more functional way. I know thanks to Evan I'll be moving better and feeling better for a long time. If you're willing to challenge yourself and let go of any ego definitely take her classes you won't regret it!

Very disappointed of how Evan treats her clients!!! Very abusive, arrogant and not even close to being friendly. It absolutely felt like this class was meant for people to struggle and suffer and that's what she actually says during the class: "I'll make it even worse for you now, so you are in more pain..."! All she does is talks about herself and her sports achievements, which makes you feel you're not good enough/ know nothing about what's best for your body. I've done pilates for more than 2 years now and have never seen such a terrible class structure as well as disrespect and arrogance from an instructor. I'm happy I bought a trial class and never coming back to this awful place where someone would treat you THIS bad! Additionally, the owner's dog is also present during the class (for people who have allergies like me - quite disappointing) and there is dust everywhere under the machines, I believe no one cleans the equipment and/ or floor in this studio. Do not recommend going to Jack & Jill pilates after such a bad experience of mine!

I live in the neighborhood and walk by Jack & Jill Pilates frequently - finally decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did! Evan is warm, fun, knowledgeable and she delivers such a fantastic workout! I love that her methodology is all about the mind body connection and she takes the time to explain to her students the essence of Pilates and has high attention to detail. She makes small, super impactful adjustments that I've never gotten from previous teachers. Highly recommend this studio!

Evan’s Pilates instruction is superlative. Whether you attend a class or a private lesson, you are getting individualized attention and support—something very rare, from my experience. The individualized approach with Evan is further enhanced by her incredibly scientific understanding of the human body—she will work extra hard to ensure you are improving your technique, rather than attending a Pilates class for the sake of just being there. Moreover, she brings so much vivacity and passion, it is more than a paycheck to her. For example, I had to cancel a Tahoe trip because of severe weather conditions, which we happened to discuss during a lesson, and she offered a free private lesson (they are not cheap!!!) for that weekend during which I was supposed to be vacationing, just so I have something positive to do. If you want to actually do Pilates the right way, Jack and Jill Pilates is the place to go.

Evan is the BEST pilates instructor I have ever encountered. She is knowledgeable and knows how to push you, while also being mindful of your physical limitations. An hour of class flies by! She is also a stickler for form and will help you learn to move the way your body was intended to.
