About the Club

About Karuna-
Early impressions of yoga has been about some mystique’s performing difficult, inconceivable acrobatic poses. Yoga was introduced western world only around 20th century. Although it’s a new concept or “fitness type”, yoga has had heavy focus on the asanas or physical health, but that is a very small part of the integrated system of wholeness that traditional yoga offers. Earliest mention of yoga in ancient textures date back to as early as 2nd century BCE, and the yoga philosophy has been the main vein of many eastern religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
At Karuna, I stay true to traditional and classical approach to yoga practice and work on strengthening and aligning our body with mind and spirit.

This high-vibrational yoga studio is an absolute gem in the heart of Pleasanton. Whether you’re just beginning your yoga journey or deepening your practice, this space offers a wonderful variety of classes and styles to choose from.

Each instructor brings their own unique teaching style, strength and energy signature - and they’re all fabulous. My personal favorite is Sarah; her Gentle Vinyasa flow was the perfect starting point for me - easy to follow, yet by the end of class, I always found myself delightfully challenged and energized.

Jin is another star, blending strength and mindfulness with a blissful sound bath to close each class. Nivi shines with her deep knowledge and authentic approach to yoga. Honestly, every teacher I’ve tried has been exceptional.

A heartfelt thanks to Kiran for creating and nurturing such a vibrant, uplifting sanctuary for our community.

I love this place ! I've been practicing yoga on & off for over 30 years and feel very grateful to have this studio in my community.
I have practiced with Karuna for over 1.5 years. All of the instructors are excellent and very mindful of each student's capacity /restrictions. Instructors take great care in making sure each student is benefiting from each pose. They offer a large schedule of classes to suit many. It's a wonderful studio for both physical and mental enrichment as well as feeling a sense of community.

I love love love this place. Nice, well maintained and serene place. All the teachers here are amazing and patient and always ready to help you. This place is a hidden gem in Pleasanton. Also very reasonable prices and no unnecessary merchandise selling . I’m so happy to be here and wish there are many more studios of Karuna yoga in the Bay Area.

Karuna Yoga Studio is truly a sanctuary. The space is warm, welcoming, and filled with positive energy. The teachers bring not only deep knowledge of yoga but also so much heart—every class feels thoughtfully designed and accessible to all levels. I love how the practice goes beyond just the poses, weaving in mindfulness, breathwork, and a sense of community.

Whether it’s a powerful flow, a restorative session, or one of the special workshops, I always leave feeling grounded, refreshed, and connected. So grateful to have found this place—it really feels like home.

I waited a full year before writing this review because I wanted to truly reflect on the impact this studio has had on my life. When I first walked in, I was dealing with multiple alignment issues and had already tried a wide range of therapies—Ayurveda, chiropractic care, physical therapy, orthopedics, massage therapy, and acupuncture. Each helped in its own way, but none offered the holistic healing I was searching for.
Initially, I joined just to support my spouse during their trial period. But after experiencing the classes myself, I knew I had to stay. This studio offers a beautiful blend of traditional practices and modern styles. For me, the traditional approaches were especially powerful—they addressed my issues in a truly holistic way.
The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and take the time to help you understand the fundamentals. Over time, the studio has become more than just a place to practice—it feels like a second home, with a warm, welcoming community and a supportive, family-like environment.
I highly recommend this studio to anyone seeking not just physical improvement, but a deeper sense of well-being.

Karuna Yoga Studio and its classes are among the best in Pleasanton. Each instructor brings a distinct approach to teaching, while remaining true to the authentic principles of yoga—integrating mind, body, and spirit in every posture.
The studio itself is spacious and well-maintained, providing all the essential props necessary to support students in their practice.
I joined Karuna Yoga in October 2024. Since becoming a member, I have noticed remarkable improvements in my posture, physical strength, and quality of sleep. One of my proudest moments was overcoming my fear and, with assistance, successfully holding a headstand—a pose I never imagined I would accomplish. Within just six months of joining, I was able to flip upside down, thanks to the patience and guidance of Kiran and Jin, who challenged me in a supportive and safe manner. I have recommended joining KARUNA Yoga Studio to friends and family.

We went for the teen classes and had such a great time! The teachers were super attentive and made sure everyone felt included and engaged. It wasn’t your typical yoga class it was fun, energetic, and really welcoming. The studio itself is beautiful, and the mural on the wall adds such a cool, creative vibe to the space. Highly recommend!

Karuna is a welcoming environment that is far from pretentious. It has an accepting atmosphere where everyone feels welcome from your first class. The instructors are knowledgeable and approachable, the class selection is great - very few yoga studios offer such a range of yoga styles from Ashtanga, Iyengar, Hatha, Vinyasa Flow to Restorative Yin - there really is something for everyone. Highly recommend

I have been with Karuna Yoga more than a year now. The studio has various sessions that one can choose based on stage of yoga practice or convenience. A complex flow or pose is broken down to simple steps , it's not about being perfect first day but getting better at it. The techniques are carefully thought and practiced. I love the meditation sessions as well. I have attended few of the retreat programs, the community is very encouraging and welcoming. Love the teachers, and teaching techniques. Highly recommend to anyone serious about wellness .

KARUNA - Yoga with Compassion stands out as a studio that offers a truly authentic yoga experience. It's clear from the community's feedback that this isn't just a workout; it's a deep, mindful practice.

The instructors, particularly Kiran and Sonal, are celebrated for being incredibly warm, caring, and intelligent. They don't simply guide movements—they embody the essence of yoga, teaching with a deep-rooted understanding of its origins.

This studio appears to honor the way yoga was traditionally practiced in India. It avoids the "watered-down" commercial versions often found elsewhere, instead focusing on a holistic approach that connects the mind, body, and spirit.

The instructors' dedication to this traditional style is what makes the classes feel so meaningful and impactful. Students leave feeling not just physically stronger, but also more centered and peaceful. KARUNA is a place for those who seek to connect with the genuine and compassionate heart of yoga.

I joined Karuna last summer after a 10-year break from regular practice, and it has been a wonderful experience. I originally came seeking stress relief, strength and flexibility, but I’ve found so much more: a welcoming, vibrant community and a studio that prioritizes thoughtful, safe practice. Coming from a background in faster-paced vinyasa classes, I was struck by the slower, more deliberate pace at Karuna. But the emphasis on alignment has helped me progress more deeply than ever before – without injuries. The instructors offer multiple variations of poses, making classes accessible to all. The space is intimate and clean, with all the props you might want (even mats).

I joined their advanced studies/teacher training program earlier this year and I highly recommend it. Despite having practiced on and off for 20 years, I’ve gained a far deeper understanding of alignment, yoga philosophy and history, than I ever expected. If you’re looking for a supportive and authentic yoga community, give Karuna a try.

SO excited that I found this studio! I’ve been searching for Iyengar/alignment yoga and this studio’s style is exactly what I wanted. Slow methodical movement that is relaxing but you can really feel your stretch and focus inward. Anyone of any level could take a class here and learn easily, feeling supported the whole time. The space is clean and bright with easy parking, there are lots of props for use, and everyone is so nice. I can’t wait for my next class!

My doctor suggested I start doing yoga to relieve my joint pains. I did not think I could do the poses or be flexible enough, but I learned it's not essential to do the perfect pose; it is about trying and being happy. Thank you, Kiran, for all the good moments we had in every class.

I started my yoga journey 3 months ago at Karuna after about a 30 year break. I was coming off of a rotator cuff injury and was looking to incorporate more flexibility training into my fitness routine. What I discovered was completely different - yes, I'm more flexible now after 3 months, but I've also found that I'm sleeping better, I have more energy, and the stress of everyday life has been significantly muted.

Yoga is so much more than getting into different poses and improving your flexibility, it's a way to destress your life and find balance. Karuna is great for beginners, there are women and men in these classes. You don't need to bring anything other than comfortable clothes, they have everything else you'd need. Their teachers are kind and patient and really interested in helping you get the most out of Yoga. Everyone around you is supportive and there to improve themselves.

If you've been interested in joining yoga for a while but don't know how to get started (like me), Karuna is a great place to hop in and try it out. Their 15 day trial pass was fantastic as you're able to sign up and work with different teachers and find a style that you're really interested in.

I never had the confidence to try yoga until I met Kiran and took my first class in her new studio. I really enjoyed the class and I am now going to her studio three times a week. I really like how she pays attention to each student and suggest modifications if needed.
I encourage everyone to give it a try, whether you are a beginner like me or a skilled yogi.

Update, September 2024: still going strong, I go to Karuna Yoga 4 times a week, my posture has improved, my back pain have decreased and I’m doing poses that I could never dream off! I cant wait to see where I will be in 6 months.
People, give it a try. There’s a deal $15 for 15 days for new comers, no excuses!

Exciting studio in the neighborhood. I appreciate going back to the basics and focusing on mind-body health and wellness in these sessions. The class ends with breathing exercise and meditation which rounds up the practise very well.
I attended the monthly potluck offered for the members and enjoyed being part of the community.

I'm elated to experience a new yoga studio in Pleasanton! The combination of strength-building, mindful/holistic, and tradition-based methods is something I haven't experienced before, and I'm looking forward to more of it. The community-based approach is also a very positive and welcomed approach, particularly as we exit the separation of the pandemic.

This is my first time trying Yoga in a studio, Kiran is an amazing teacher, she strives on getting the best out of people by encouraging them to attain mental and physical euphoria. I'm still in my initial states with Yoga and I'm very stiff and tight because of the weight training that I do, but with all the work that we put in the studio, I'm sure its a matter of time to get to optimal physical and mental state.
