This place is very nice. We tried the yin yoga class and it was very relaxing. The overall environment is peaceful. They offer a large variety of classes and the teachers there are very experienced and knowledgeable. The girl at the front desk, Eve, is super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend to anyone who is interested to try out yoga!

i might be the odd person out but, i did not enjoy this studio at all. their classes are WAY overbooked. i’m 6’3” and i had about 6 inches of space between me and everyone else around me. how am i supposed to stretch my arms, etc? the person in front of me was also tall and i had his feet in my face the entire class. that many people in one room is too stimulating for a person like me. ALSO. i went on a class on the 4th of july and thought it was INSANELY insensitive for the instructor to yell out “yay america” and “you feeling patriotic yet”? when a bill was signed that same day hurting millions of actual americans and how america today is actually committing atrocities worldwide. just don’t bring that into yoga. nothing to celebrate tbh.

I never thought I would be a hot yoga girlie, yet here I am, 10 years into my practice hotting things up.

Kinship has such a beautiful community, if you're not local, it is worth the drive.

If you want to feel held, and healed, I highly recommend.

There is a community steam room and cold plunge around the back, communal showers, three studios, and other non heated classes (i am yet to attend) on offer if you're hot enough already.

If you have a deep practice and are looking to expand, give it a go. And if you're a newbie you'll be helped along in flow in community.

I love Alex, Sita, Bree, Aracely to name a few, there are so many good teachers.

There is something special happening here if your open to receive it.

I have such mixed feelings about Kinship! First of all, it's a gorgeous space: I love the whole aesthetic—the studios with the unfinished walls and ceilings especially. The little backyard area with the steam room is a real highlight. And they have a few solid teachers. But they also have some pretty awful teachers who seem to have little experience. Too many of their teachers love to fill the time with fiddly non-asana stuff that does nothing for the body.

I've been reflecting a lot lately about how postural yoga kind of started in LA in 1948 and how thoroughly mediocre LA yoga is these days (especially compared to, say, 10–15 years ago). Kinship is part of that trend of offering okay classes with little attention to alignment, sequencing, or yogic wisdom. Like the rest of LA, it caters to the beginner student who wouldn't realize what's missing.

Having said all that, it's the best studio on the east side so it's all we've got. I just hope they can raise the teacher standard a bit and start offering more advanced classes.

I've been coming to kinship yoga for almost a year now, and I absolutely love it! The quality of the yoga teachings here is exceptional, the studio facilities are gorgeous, and the technology here is super cool. Hot yoga itself is under infrared lamps, on top of that, the studio offers a cold plunge and a steam room sauna. I come here most days of the week and this is almost a second home for me, a true sanctuary. Again, the teachers are amazing! Thank you so much.

I go here because I live in the area and my favorite teacher teaches here. I was honestly avoiding the place just because a few years ago I came to read the reviews and the owners immature responses really put me off.
After visiting, I feel I must share everytime I take a class here I notice the cleanliness could be better. The past 3 times I've taken a hot yoga class in the front room there has been clumps of hair and dust (like dust bunnies) at the front of the room , which is kinda distracting(and gross) and makes me wonder what else hasn't been cleaned. In my experience most hot yoga studios floors get wiped after every class. But I've never seen that happen in that room before. 🤷‍♀️

Edit: After I left this review at the next class I came to, the owner(I'm assuming since he never introduced himself) made a point to rush over as I checked myself in to ask who I was (again without introducing himself) and then look me up in the computer then said "you know we have a comment box for that" pretty rudely
I had no idea what he was talking about about since it was right before class and I was getting into my head space. I then said "okay cool could I please rent a mat?" He then put the employee who was working the desk in front of me and said "you help her" then walked away in a huff....
Needless to say I spent my whole class wondering what he was talking about about/ thinking about how he went out of his way to say this to me. Made me feel a little unsafe and very uncomfortable honesty. I also left a comment in the comment box the first day I saw the dust bunnies and I never saw anything happen after that, I know he reads these comments.

This just confirms what I thought about his immature responses in the comments.

The instructor & instruction was wonderful but facilitaties were horrible!! With over 55 people in a class, vast majority of them women, it is unsafe to have facilties including a single, inadequate locker room and hallway that small. After class the bathroom/shower room/lockerroom was so full, it was very difficult to use it or even exit. Even during class, mat spots were marked so close together to accommodate all the people that touching a neighbor was unavoidable. First yoga facility I've been to to make me question my safety because of over crowding. Unpleasant.

Edit: The fact that these conditions exist at any time including "peak times" is very concerning, Especially if there were an emergency or fire, this is an appalling and inadequate reality for $25 per class.

The most corporate yoga place I have ever seen. Still giving 4 stars, because coaches are amazing, but I asked one time if a friend could try a class for free, just one time: "NO!". Then I asked if I could freeze my account (I paid for a full month unlimited), because I'm heavily injured (need to stop any sport for a few months): "NO!"
I really wish this was run more like a small business, a kind of family business, with people with more understanding of problems...

The classes and instructors are pretty great but entering a classroom and seeing dried sweat pools all over the floor is really gross. Especially when your teacher cues a pose that requires your arms or legs to rest on the sweat-crusted floors. It would be great if some cleaning could be scheduled between classes.

Also, it’s kind of disappointing to come here only to see the owner respond with snarky and condescending responses to any critique or concerns.

I LOVE Kinship Yoga! It's a place I come every week to feel grounded mentally, spiritually + physically. Some special highlights of my time there have been: Araceli's yoga flows en español (I wish there was more of this in LA!); Bree's "Process" class where you journal, do breathwork, SCREAM! + move like no one is watching; Sita Dass Ji's Soul Flow Yoga where you breathe, chant, flow + LAUGH! in a manner informed by Eastern Religions; and Meg's Yin / Healing Collective class where you are taken through slow movements while healers go around the room giving you restorative services 🧘‍♀️✨

My only wish to make this space the best it possibly could be would be a thorough vacuum and/or quick Swiffer or mop between classes. At times I've found some dust bunnies and things of that nature on the ground that can distract from my practice, especially given yoga mats are made for things to stick to them. I say this with the most love for this space that has become a regular part of my week and practice 🙏🤍

This studio is absolutely a gem in this neighborhood. The staff is professional and friendly, the teachers are very experienced and care about the students. I love coming here because they have a variety of classes for all levels. The yoga in concert is an amazing experience. The only thing that I wish they did is correct the students posture on one on one basis during class, other than that, you can’t find better anywhere. It’s my therapy!!

Kinship Yoga is run by horrible management. The owner Ryan take advantage of workers and from my understanding uses his position to pressure and harass students and the yoga teachers. He's exploitative of the less fortunate in the community and create division. He encourages racism and there's no God in What he and the other teachers associated with him practice.
You will not find peace here only masks, conflict, and a white man using women to take advantage of the neighborhood. None of the yoga teachers are trained by traditional Yogi's and can't maintain a healthy practice.
Stay away from kinship and their racist owners and practice.

I rarely review things, but I really felt like I had to review Kinship! I just recently moved back to LA and one thing I was worried about was finding a yoga studio that was a right fit for me. Someone recommended Kinship and I’m SO HAPPY I listened. This is my favorite yoga studio ever and I can’t express how grateful I am to practice here. All the teachers are incredible and the practice itself is challenging (in a great way). The teachers always remind you that you practice at your own pace. The hot room is HOT and I love every moment of it. I also feel like the teachers have a way of balancing the spiritual and physical aspects of the practice - which can sometimes be hard to find in the hot yoga world. Thank you to everyone at this school for making it the special gem that it is!

I feel very conflicted about this studio, I have loved it for years but it’s very clear that the owner does not take the pandemic seriously. It’s one thing to be personally anti-vax but another to dismiss all safety precautions at your very public business, not to mention ignoring local laws. The rooms are at full capacity, aka crowded, with no air filters or ventilation, and there are very few outdoor classes available despite their nice outdoor space. No mask or vaccine requirements. I have dwindled my attendance down from almost daily to seldomly, because I don’t feel cared for there anymore. It’s pretty sad, because I love the space and the teachers.

*The owner’s sketchy stance is highlighted by his petty response to this review. Not a good look.

From someone who was raised in HLP community and given every new establishment the benefit of the doubt, I recommend we take our yoga practice elsewhere. We don’t need business owners such as this one in OUR community. I love hot yoga, but I would rather travel to another city than to give Ryan my business again. If Kinship wants to know how they can improve, I will advise: change ownership.
UPDATE 2/24/21:
Client reviews from several social networks state you have ignored all CDC safety protocols for the current pandemic we are living. No more excuses and give us back our money!

Really lovely teachers + classes. As a South Indian, I’m quite picky about the yoga studios I go to and generally don’t love the hot yoga classes. The most beautiful community has been created here. All the teachers are amazing and everyone here will greet you with a big smiling face! A luxury, but homey feel, help yourself to complimentary tea and water before your class. You can feel comfortable leaving your things up front or grab a lock from the desk to put in a locker in the locker room. Many different types of classes for all levels - feel comfortable as a beginner or experienced yogi - they are all amazing. They really love the community and put in effort to give back. They offer expanded classes and different events each week - breath work, emotional support circle classes lead by the healing collective, aryuvedic yoga and yoga in concert which has a different musician playing live each week.
I miss the community a lot since it has been closed, but have stayed practicing and tune in to the livestream classes because I love the teachers so much! If you're considering joining a studio to continue your practice, this is THE studio to support!

Thank you KINSHIP for providing a safe space for me to grow and practice ! <3 <3

I used to take hot yoga in Washington DC, ages ago when the choreographer I was working with at the time traveled to India. I'm still a dancer, but also a Pilates and GYROTONIC® instructor, so it's been a minute since my body has craved yoga flow. Two of my clients kept talking about Kinship, and then my friend took a class, so I had to follow.
And I'm glad I did! I wasn't sure if my body could handle the heat still, but all the instructors I've taken from - Stella, Meg and Bree - give you space and time to breathe, to be still, and to keep up a wonderful flow if that floats your boat. They also don't shy away from inversions, something the former gymnast in me craves! I've also taken Veronica's Aerial Fitness class, and I love love love it! She's simply fantastic, and the fabric and lyra hoop play is accessible and sooo fun! Kinship has a great vibe, it's warm both in temperature and friendliness, and you can get some great training with their experienced, articulate instructors.

This place is an oasis and a wonderful community in the area. Gorgeous space with industrial high ceilings and great ambiance. Lovely teachers that are all super talented and personable. The best yoga classes, offering their staple hot yoga that feels just right and acro-yoga for the adventurous. Also normal yoga of course and meditation classes plus much more!

This studio is great! Low key atmosphere and super friendly staff. Don’t get me wrong by low key — they are also buttoned up with all the things you need: complimentary towels, mats and grip towels for rent and showers. Alex is a killer teacher and the studio itself is great. I highly recommend!

I really love it here. It's very lowkey, and not too pretentious. You can tell the teachers really think about each class they teach. Some of the most creative flows I've practiced have been at Kinship.

A wonderful place! I often find myself feeling a bit lost at the larger yoga chains, so Kinship is great. It has a number of the amenities that smaller yoga spots don’t have, without losing of the more personal experiences you get with non-chains locations. There’s a great variety of classes, prices are affordable, the teachers are fabulous, and the staff is always friendly. I particularly like the large amount of yin yoga classes that are usually hard to find.

The best yoga studio I've ever been to, and I've visited 25+ studios around the country over the last three years. The facilities at Kinship are gorgeous, spacious, and very clean. The teachers are best-in-class professionals -- but also warm, loving human beings. The classes are dynamic, challenging and deeply restorative. And better still -- Kinship is super affordable. You will not find a better yoga studio in LA or anywhere! Proud to call this place my yoga home.

Kinship is the best. I can't recommend the teachers and space enough. The studio's ceiling is decorated with beautiful cloth flowers and draped sheets which make meditating in shavasana truly transcendent. And I can't forget to mention the hardwood floors and window which lends lots of natural light to your practice. The teachers and music are consistently superb and I appreciate that teachers point out that one side of the studio generally runs cooler temperature-wise than the other side. There are also showers. With body wash! Just go, it's the best.

LOVE IT HERE!! I don't live in the area, but this is my home away from home studio when I'm visiting. The practice space is one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever practiced in... and everything else is great too (they providing locker room/showers/mat rental etc). The staff has always been lovely and friendly, and I haven't taken a class that I didn't enjoy/love (and I'm kind of picky). Thank you KINSHIP for existing! You are gift to the world and the community. I wish I had a studio like yours in my home town.

Kinship is a community that inspires health, growth, and healing. A kind place in the heart of highland park, it offers high quality yoga, which aims at transformation. Yoga is the art of resistance and using ones own body and mind to work through agitation or pain. The variety of practices allows for you to navigate and build a practice that works and improves your sense of stability. To feel grounded is important. To feel estatic or peaceful is self care. I’ve found that I can cultivate these feelings and precious states through yoga. I recommend joining Kinship and beginning your journey, at your own pace, towards transcendence. Have fun!

This is an excellent studio, a high standard for experienced yogis and beginner classes for those just starting out. Instructors are unlike many I've had in LA before; they are techical, detailed, hard working and yet totally on your side, as well as guiding you through a wholesome sometimes meditative practise. They are able to combine many aspects of yoga seamlessly and with such obvious care for their work, students and classes. Lovely studio itself too!
