This is the worst LA Fitness I've ever seen. The shower stalls don't even have doors, so your towel gets soaked before you can use it after your shower. The open showers let water splash everywhere — it's terrible! So many garbage on the floor , in shower room on the floor so many razors 🪒 disgusting.

It takes a lot for me to do this, but I’m tired of how many machines are constantly “scheduled for repair.” I’m writing this looking at SIX broken stair masters. C’mon, after months of a broken pool/sauna? Place is basically a garage

UPDATE: management told me the machines may not be fixed for another 3 months. Wow.

As a guest, terrible first impression:.

Pros:
- Spacious gym, numerous equipment, nice crowd, overall good vibes.

Cons: BAD SERVICE
- I signed up for a guest pass and walked 10 mins to the gym and was told I needed a physical ID before I could be let in. So I have to walk all the way back to get my ID and then back to the gym again. Was the personal info I already provided not enough? 30 minutes wasted there.

- While signing the visitor form, a girl walks in and says, “oh I already scanned” to the front desk girl who was just talking gossip on the phone. What a joke.

- Then I get taken to listen to a sales pitch that I already am turned off by. Alejandra (nice girl) gives me her monologue about the guest package, then asks me if I intend to come in solo or with a guest. I say solo, then she gives me the individual package speech. Wouldn’t have it been better to ask me that question to begin with instead of wasting more of my time? Furthermore, I get asked where I live 3 times in that conversation regarding where I’m from, which location I’d sign up for, and if they even have a location there. Was I not clear the first time?

- I start making small talk with other gym members and tell them the same story up to now and to sum up what they said, “oh dude, why would you even do all that? People just come in here all the time”.

In conclusion, doing the right thing at this gym gets your time wasted. Shame, I would’ve signed up for this location too. Nice gym, sloppy staff.

This gym is huge, with a lot of great equipment, but it is one of the messiest gyms!
Management doesn’t enforce the maintenance of weights & the overall cleanliness of the gym. You can get a good workout in, but plan for extra time, just trying to find the equipment, because it’s not where it’s supposed to be.

Dion (personal trainer) is THE REASON I go to this gym and the reason for this 5-Star Review. Every session is upbeat, fun, and I always know I’m going to laugh. But more importantly, he has incredible knowledge, smart workout plans, nutritional knowledge, and genuine care for your progress. In just a few months, I’ve seen my body transform in ways I’ve always dreamed of for years, and I actually look forward to coming to the gym because of him.

The facility itself isn’t the best. It is crowded, compact, and not as clean or attractive as other locations. BUT Dion IS THE VALUE in going to this gym. He is down to earth and gives his best.

My motive in leaving this review, is to let others know where the value is in the membership. Dion should be training celebrities in my opinion.

I also highly recommend the spin classes! Incredible instructors! I just wish the spin room had more air flow, as I don’t like inhaling everyone’s breath but again, great instructors!

Dion is the #1 Asset at this Culver City location.

Two stars for The Bees Knees - which is the best part of this location (and they're not technically a part of LA Fitness). This is by far, the worst LA Fitness location in Los Angeles. I recently moved and my previous location was the new LA Fitness at NoHo West. This is the complete opposite. The windows often fog on the inside from the humidity (ew) and it's dirty carpet all over the floors. All the machines are rusting and many are often not working at all. There isn't nearly enough machines to keep up with the demand, and you'll often see people waiting in lines during busier hours. I've never interacted with the staff, so I can't speak to that, but regarding the atmosphere, equipment, and cleanliness look elsewhere.

The bare minimum. Small, lack of attachments for cable machines, no bball court, no heavy bags, no shower curtains (lots of lookey-loos), and frequent plumbing issues. But, you CAN get a pump in here and at the end of the day that's what really matters.

I strongly encourage all readers to steer clear of La Fitness because of an incredibly distressing experience I endured there, which involved verbal harassment and blatant disrespect not only towards me but also towards my cousins and younger brother. The confrontation and conduct exhibited by two female employees were not only aggressive but also deeply intimidating. It was truly alarming to witness such behavior, especially considering the impact it had on my younger brother, who, as a result, was left utterly speechless and visibly frightened. This kind of unacceptable treatment is not something anyone should have to endure while trying to enjoy their time at a public venue. Therefore, I firmly believe it is essential to share this experience with others to underscore the severity of the situation and to advocate for the avoidance of this establishment altogether.

I had a very upsetting experience at this LA Fitness location. A short manager name Josue pressured and verbally harassed me into signing up for a personal training membership. He didn’t explain the cancellation policy at all — I only found out about the fee after I tried to cancel because I didn’t like the training style.

When I told him I didn’t want to pay the cancellation fee for a service I no longer wanted, he revoked my entire gym membership for not paying cancellation fees. I felt extremely uncomfortable, disrespected, and trapped.

This kind of pressure and retaliation is completely unprofessional. I came to this gym to improve my health, not to be bullied into contracts I didn’t understand. I’ve will be filing a complaint with LA Fitness corporate and will be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau as well.

I hope they investigate this behavior seriously and prevent this from happening to anyone else.

It's a no for me.

This LA Fitness location was really disappointing. I did not sign up after my trial.

The facility often has an unpleasant smell, kind of like a mix of mildew and sweat that doesn’t seem to go away. It’s almost always crowded no matter what time you visit, making it tough to find available machines or equipment.

That might be fine if people were polite. But unfortunately, gym etiquette leaves a lot to be desired. Weights are frequently left scattered around and slammed on the floor by roided out wannabe gym bros, and it’s rare to see anyone wiping down machines after use. The staff does nothing to remind people of how to behave like humans.

The place feels a bit rundown too, with some walls missing and equipment frequently not in great shape.

Working out here can feel more stressful than relaxing, which is disappointing since it’s one of the closest gyms for Palms and Culver City residents. I hope there will be better options coming soon for the neighborhood.

I would never give this place my money.

Exceptional Experience at LA Fitness – Culver City

I’ve been to several gyms, but the LA Fitness at the Culver Center truly stands out. It’s one of the largest locations I’ve visited, boasting multiple floors filled with a vast array of equipment, ensuring that I never have to wait to use a machine. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and offers a welcoming environment for all fitness levels.

What truly sets this gym apart, however, is the outstanding staff. Every team member I’ve encountered has been friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. I want to give a special shoutout to Daniel. On multiple occasions, I’ve misplaced personal items like my wallet, keys, and even my beanie. Remarkably, Daniel went above and beyond to locate and return them to me—even retrieving my beanie from a spot nearly 200 yards outside the gym! His attentiveness and dedication have made a lasting impression, and I can’t thank him enough for his kindness and integrity.

If you’re looking for a top-notch gym experience with exceptional facilities and a staff that truly cares, I highly recommend the LA Fitness at the Culver Center.

EDIT #3: they have free weights again! Plenty of plates from 45 to 2.5, thank God. Bumping the rating to 3 stars, haven't had a chance to see if they got enough dumbbells too but I'll update again when I find out.

EDIT #2: It's been 11 months since my first review. They just got a new set of 25-pound plates, so there's plenty of those now! Still not many 10s, and sometimes you have to wait until someone else is finished so you can have the 5s they were using. As far as I can tell there's only a single pair of 2.5s for the entire gym, but I've seen a couple people bring their own 2.5s. A guy told me they're $40 on Amazon so maybe I'll give in and buy those.

EDIT: It's been 8 months since I wrote the review below and it's only gotten worse. Fewer weights than ever. Every other location I've been to is much better than this.

They don't have anywhere near enough free weights or dumbbells. They've been "about to get more" for 5 years but they never do, they just say it keeps getting delayed by "corporate". Pretty sure they stopped putting away the weights because if they did you'd notice that so many of them are missing. It's gone enormously downhill.

I had a terrible experience when I decided to check out this LA Fitness location since my contract at my other gym was coming to an end and this LA fitness is closer to home.

Using the free pass to explore the gym turned out to be a hassle.

Moreover, the front receptionist wouldn't let me in without first talking to a salesperson.

The saleswoman was unfriendly and came across as quite condescending. To add to my frustration, the saleswoman insisted I needed to pay $20 for a day pass, even though I had signed up online for a free one.

When I was asked if I had a membership before, I couldn't remember, if I had a membership or a trial with them years ago. But what I do recall is the limited parking and insufficient machines, especially squat racks, were significant drawbacks and I decided to not move forward with them . With a smirk, she mentioned that all the machines were the same. (in a condescending way, and clearly uninterested in earning my business)
I was seriously considering joining this gym due to its convenience, purely because of it being a shorter drive for me, but after that experience, I decided to retrieve my ID and not proceed with the trial. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and a complete waste of time.

I recently got a 3-day guest pass to try out this LA Fitness location since my boyfriend is a member. Shortly after, someone from LA Fitness called to confirm my pass, and we scheduled a date for me to come in. Unfortunately, I got sick and called to let them know I wouldn’t be able to make it but still wanted to use my pass once I felt better.

Once I felt better I went in, I was told that my guest pass had been erased for not coming in initially—even though I had called LA Fitness and let them know I was sick + the guest pass email states, “Must visit club to activate pass within 30 days of issue date.” I was well within that timeframe. When I pointed this out, the staff then said well I couldn’t use a guest pass anyway because I had been a member at another location back in 2021. This was never mentioned to me in the email or during the initial confirmation call.

I originally left LA Fitness in 2021 due to poor customer service, but I wanted to give another location a chance. Unfortunately, this experience just reinforced my previous concerns. Transparency and better customer support would go a long way in improving the experience for potential members.

People at front desk are all super nice, but gym itself once again proving la fitness is overpriced and overrated. Dumbbell weights are everywhere and unsorted, and it’s a crap shoot whether any of the bike machines actually work. Today it took 4 tries to get one that would actually start, and then it randomly restarted halfway through my workout. Again, it’s fine, it has the things you need to workout, but at this insane price point (just 4 years ago la fitness was 1/3 the price lmao) you’d expect a little better.

Quite possibly the worst gym in the area and has been for a number of years. I've been to all the LA fitness gyms in the area and the managers definitely don't care about the quality of the gym.

No one ever puts the weights back, and no one has ever said anything. I guess everyone is too weak from not working out and taking Instagram videos about how they are in the gym not working out.

The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, and you might leave dirtier than you came.

The sauna looks like it's going to cave in on you and smells like sweaty balls. People hang their shirts on the heater and walk in with shoes. The Marina Del ray LA fitness strictly enforces no shirts and shoes as does others. Someone needs to tech some sauna etiquette.

Most of the equipment Is falling apart and sometimes you even need to bring your own because there's not enough things such a pull down bars.

Most of the equipment is rusted and feels like you're in a prison.

Oh and don't go during any hours because you will literally be waiting for hours to use the machines. Except for Sunday, when everyone is at church praying that all of this will get resolved.

So not counting all those things, it's quite an exceptional gym and almost as nice as the nice ones.

At LA Fitness on Overland Ave, the entire downstairs area has been blocked off for private classes, leaving no space for regular members to stretch or use light equipment like small weights, exercise balls, and stretching sticks. Even when only one person is training, the area is closed off.

All the beginner-friendly equipment has been taken over by private classes, which are very expensive. The equipment upstairs is primarily for professionals, making it difficult for beginners or those with mobility issues to find appropriate space and tools. Plus, those areas are always crowded during busy hours.

I’ve contacted LA Fitness, and while they said they’d address this, nothing has changed. It’s frustrating that the gym is becoming less accessible for regular members.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Disappointed with LA Fitness (3827 Overland Ave, Culver City, CA). Tried bringing my mom to the gym to work out with me and my fiancée, but the assistant manager refused her entry, ignoring all guest pass promotions that are clearly advertised online (like the 3-day pass and complimentary guest options). Instead, they tried to charge us $21 for a day pass.

Not Great
I've been going to this LA fitness for the past year and it's not a great experience. The managers really need to work on fostering proper gym weight etiquette because literally no one puts their weights back in the proper place. On top of that, many of the weights are missing even when the gym isn't busy. Machines are missing their accessories and equipment is left on the floor for people to trip over. The gym can get very busy after 4 pm and you'll likely have to spend extra time either waiting for machines or searching for weights.
The gym is 4 stories with the lockers located below the ground floor. The whole place feels old and dirty.
They recently refurbished their smoothie bar but I guess they couldn't do the rest of the gym...

One of the larger LA Fitnesses but it's older, it could use some updating. Indoor pool, sauna, 4 floors with the underground one for classes, the first two for treadmills, stairs/stepper, bikes, the 4th floor for machines and free weights. They seem to be on top of cleaning which is nice. The trainers here have more availability than other locations and all seem really engaged. Yeliotzka is amazing, if you can book her do it!

Once you do a lap around you can kind of get a sense of where everything is clumped together on th 4th floor. They seemed to have two identical machines for everything then a variant that's somewhat same vicinity of muscles so like if you can't do the low row you might still get something done on the MTS row. When this place is busy it feels BUSY, on the flip side when it's slow you can knock out what you need with no wait time or navigating people at all.

Parking lot is a nightmare though, arrive early enough to hunt for a spot. 😄

Went today to use a 3-day guest pass. Arrived at 7:43, was told that I couldn’t use the guest pass until 8:00. The only alternative was to pay $20 for 13 minutes.. literally 13 mins, they lost a potential customer. New to the area and this is the closest LA Fitness, but the front desk ruined it.

I travel a lot so I have a pass to go to any LA fitness and I decided to try out this one, I was so underwhelmed & overwhelmed. It was so crowded to be 1:00 on a Wednesday. People on every equipment. The gym is so crammed. Equipment in every corner and no method to the madness. I was so confused on where to go, where’s the leg section? It was just scattered everywhere. I would NEVER join this gym. I couldn’t even finish my workout, bc it was so chaotic and crowded. And you have to go up & down a million stairs to get to anywhere. Do not recommend

This gym never had enough space from the beginning, and now they’re not allowing people to workout at downstairs area. Whole section is only for private clients now. They closed the whole section even though there’s only one person training. There was only one person and I was using a equipment which no one was using. Trainer asked me to leave.

Went here last week (Friday) with a friend visiting from out of town who has a membership. She requested a guest pass for me because I was looking to join a gym. Met with the sales representative and was told my friend had to go on the app to make a request. My friend didn’t have the app and has limited skills with technology. The sales representative did not offer to help my friend. The sales representative did not even offer me a tour. She was not helpful at all. I didn’t feel welcome at this gym and therefore went somewhere else and joined.

Love the CARDIO CLASS on Saturday and Sunday. One of the best cardio instructors in the city. However, the management has neglected the facility. The gym reeks of sewage water. When you bring it to their attention, ppl shrug their shoulders. Management doesn't care and don't know how to remove the smell.

Has everything you’d need (obviously everyone has to bring their own equipment since it’s a LA fitness) & pretty much crowded all the time (which is fine and isn’t a complaint from me given the low price point). Also saw a cockroach on the stairs just hanging out during one of my first visits. It’s honestly pretty dirty I’d say and really grossed me out. Needless to say, I haven’t gone back since seeing the cockroach.

Today I went in with my friend, who is also a member of LA fitness but her account is single club only. We were asking about the price to upgrade her account so she can go to multi club and the guy told us the price so we decided to hold on that upgrade because it was expensive. But then I do have guest privileges on my account, which I pay $20 a month to bring a friend in with me. He said that my friend can't get in since she is also a member so if she wants to get in, she has to pay $10 for today only or upgrade her account. So I don't really understand with my $20 I pay each month for guest privileges, who I can bring in, like everyone else who is not a member or what. Note that, normally, I can still bring her in just today this guy keeps refusing to let us in since my friend does not want to upgrade her account or pay $10. So I decided to go in another location and they said that was not true, maybe this guy try to mess with me to sale me and my friend. I feel is really ridiculous that the front guy does not let my friend, who is also a member of LA fitness in even though I have guest privileges which cost me extra $20 a month just because she is a member of LA fitness so she can't be in my guest privileges.

Dirty, crowded, difficult to find open equipment, but the worst part is the SMELL! There’s a lingering humidity / mold smell that makes this gym unusable for me. It really feels like you’re going to contract a respiratory condition by breathing in there. No open windows, no airflow, no towels to wipe up sweat - just a dank, moldy musk that never disappears.

Cost is $30 monthly, but is NOT worth it. Pay more for a better gym or work out at home !!

It’s dirty, it smells bad, almost half of the dumbbells are missing since Covid, one or more machines is almost always out of order, and I’ve seen cockroaches in the gym multiple times. It gets crowded around 6am so you’ll have to wait for machines and weights. I go cause it’s super close to my house but I wouldn’t recommend it. The one upside is that the current front desk person tends to open up a few minutes early and is good about turning the music on. The previous person usually wouldn’t even turn the music on and said she wasn’t able to, which is super odd.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This is by far the nastiest, most run down and aggravating LA fitness in the area. I’m not sure what’s worse - the horrible smells, poor customer service, broken machine and missing attachments they keep behind the counter so they “dont get stolen” or the sauna that’s always broken and pool area that’s constantly wet and a slipping hazard for anyone who walks in there. I live across the street but I drive out of my way and pay for parking at other locations to avoid this one. This location is always packed so it’s pretty disappointing that LA Fitness won’t put in the $ to renovate, fix machines and clean properly.

Solid place in general! I think it could be improved by staff enforcing cleanliness and figuring out how to get people to Put Their Weights Back. My friend's gym just has signs everywhere that say "Put your weights back or your membership is cancelled." Honestly - Love this.

I have to stop myself from asking grown men to read but have to step back and realize I don't work here. But some people do and could make a difference.

So many times I come here and it's just a mess because of lazy adults that don't clean up after themselves. Affects the function of the gym and how it feels to have a membership here...

The Beverly hills location is not good (3 stars) - Clean, but small and there are 3 benches total. I'm constantly fighting to get one and being pressured to hurry up. Also the biggest groups of like 17 year olds flood the gym after school and scream at each other from across the room.

Culver city (4 stars) has a great location, big, plenty of equipment, but this putting weights back issue is real here...the kind little signs that say "Please re-rack your weights" are just not solving the problem.

Hollywood (1 Star) LA fitness location is gross and everything is broken. I don't feel like I can set my bag down in the locker room without it accumulating grime and it feels like it's run by a totally different company. Really not in the same league as other locations.

Playa vista's location (5 Stars) is the best I've ever seen for LA fitness. I love it there.

Ok so the only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because I think I noticed on the third floor ceiling where the weights are, there is mole forming. The staff is good in that they generally greet you unless their distracted or on their phone. It's usually crowded after work but on black Friday it was around 3pm and it was perfect. A lot of machines were open, the cardio machines had open spaces to workout in. It was nice.

I have always just accepted that this gym would be mediocre, which it is (if you are being very generous). But I am trying to cancel now, and they are making it incredibly difficult. They told me that I have to come into the gym between 9-5 on a weekday. I have a job and can't just pick up and leave for the gym during that time period. The manager is very rude and tried to tell me that "we all have things to cancel" when I asked why it felt like I was being held hostage. Bro.... what does that even mean???

Their pricing is so shady. Don't pay more than $30/month. Their equipment is so smelly. I always come home smelling like 4,000 other people's sweat.

If you are looking to join a gym, just join a different one. For your own sake.

It's a commercial gym chain, it's a larger location with a variety of amenities. Nothing is super modern or cutting edge, there's times when it's super busy but generally there's enough equipment to use without waiting. The cardio machines are really old and dated but the a whole bunch of them, the cable machines work well and there's a few double stacks upstairs and downstairs. Nobody racks dumbbells but there's almost 4 sets of heavy and maybe 8 of lighter weights. For barbell stuff there's only 2 power racks and one pseudo power rack that has a x/y axis Smith machine arm, one platform for Olympic lifts. Multiple barbell bench rigs and incline, they are alright, no safety arms and the rack position is low for long arm guys this sucks.

If body weight stuff is your jam there were 5 or more assisted pull up machines and unfortunately only 2 lat pull down machines all if them are always busy.

Pool never seems busy but I have seen people packed in the sauna.
Anyways 5 stars really because the size and staff is generally really nice and friendly. I think it's a pretty good value proposition. Rack your weights people 🤗

Best thing about this place is the staff. The cleaning staff is always on the move, cleaning. That's like a workout for them too because its 4 floors walking up n down the stairs. Front desk is cool n friendly during the hours I go there. Trainers look very fit and are friendly. You can get in a real good workout here. This place is very welcoming.

Please add curtains to showers! Need that asap. Machines sometimes take a while before being repaired. Parking is ok but could be better. They share parking with other facilities in the same plaza. Sauna is nice and spacious. It's also unisex. No basketball courts here. And no heavy bags for boxing here either. Besides that, I highly recommend this location.

Roach infestation. There was a (live) cockroach the size of my thumb near the squat racks on the third floor. I can't imagine using the locker rooms in the basement given the cleanliness situation. The only other LA Fitness I've been to, in Forth Worth, was spotless in comparison. I've been coming to this gym for about nine months.

Giving two stars because the staff are all friendly and the manager helped me resolve a boneheaded move I made with my membership through my health insurance. It does, however, get overcrowded as other reviews mention, and uncomfortably muggy/humid inside. Plus, you know, the roaches.

It’s a gym. You can get a workout. They are slow to fix broken machines and the bathrooms are dirty. All to be expected from a gym overflowing with members. Weekday rush hour is typically 3pm - 7:30pm-ish and the place super slammed. Getting a bench or machine is rough and you better be ok with sharing or asking people how many more sets they have. Overall it gets the job done. The location is on par with any “budget gym”. It’s ok.
