The gym is nice, I have been a member since 2017 when I used to live in LA and now live in Downey. I got the membership through my employer, a large utility company, LA fitness personnel came to my company and offered enrollment specials. I didn’t know what gym location they were from, my wife wanted to join the gym but wanted to try it first, so I got a 5 day pass for her, we went to the gym along with my 4 yrs old daughter and when we arrived they didn’t accept the pass because they said it was for the Alhambra location, I tried to speak to Jesus the manager and he denied the entrance with a very bad demeanor and told us the pass was for another gym and if my wife wanted to workout she had to pay $20, at that point we had already paid for my daughter gym childcare I believe $10 or $20, for as much as I asked Jesus to make an exception he completely refused it in a very rude way. I called the Alhambra location and the manager at that location was very nice and he told me that if Jesus wanted to grant us entrance he could have done it, so the Alhambra manager did his magic and made the pass valid for the Downey location but at that point I had paid for my daughter childcare and my wife’s entrance $20. We were very disappointed and sad for the very bad experience. Customer service is the core of any business and customer retention is key for your survival and profit, I believe Jesus needs more training to understand the very nature of the industry he works for, in addition to that when he saw me exiting the gym he laughed in a very sarcastic way.

This is my home gym, while not perfect I enjoy this since it's the closest one to my house. Generally it's pretty clean and equipment is good enough but I have a few suggestions that would make it feel more "5-star."

- REALLY need to do something about the dumbbells in the free-weight area, they're NEVER organized and scattered all over the gym.

- Provide some hand sanitizer stations throughout the gym.

- Stop hording all the free-weight cable system equipment behind the front desk, these grips / ropes and handles should be racked near the actual equipment.

- Make sure that ALL bench-presses / squat racks have a barbell, one is always missing.

- Fix your pull-up grips on your free-weight equipment, a lot of them are so worn out that you get black tar on your hand while using it. Feels cheap.

When is the sauna at 12074 Lakewood Blvd, Downey, CA 90242 location gonna be fixed? It's been closed for maintenance for almost 2 months? I'm paying full price therefore I expect to be able to utilize the gym to it's fullest. Everytime I ask a staff member they always give me different days for when it will be open!

I tried to use LA Fitness’s 3-day free trial, only to be told I had to pay $20 to activate it. It felt a bit absurd — almost contradictory — considering a full membership is just around $30/month. It left me wondering: what exactly is “free” about this trial?

The experience came off as a bait and switch. If a gym markets something as a “free trial pass,” it should be just that — no strings, no surprise charges. When a customer feels misled at the door, it’s hard to trust anything else after that. I ended up going to 24 Hour Fitness nearby instead, where the process was more transparent and welcoming using Wellhub

LA Fitness might have nice equipment, but first impressions matter. A gym should build trust from day one, not erode it before you even step inside.

FYI, my Wellhub pass wasn't working, and I thought of using the free trial. So, coming back the next day to use the free trial with $20(one day pass) doesn't make sense right? You can read the rest of the other reviews here and decide 24 Hours or LA Fitness.

Today after my gym session my gym bag was STOLEN from the women lockers ( it had a code lock) and the front desk people didn’t even DO ANYTHING. Not even said sorry, not even made an effort, just the girl from the cafeteria stand said she had seen someone weird come in with a diferent membership photo and they still let her in. The lady that robbed my stuff took my stuff and my car keys but wasn’t able to find my car so I found my car unlocked but fortunately wasn’t stolen. I had to call the police myself because no one reacted in the front desk. So upsetting. Really disappointing honestly. Be safe and know that this gym won’t step up for their clients, they just act like nothing had happened. Like they were even used to it. So so disappointing.

Class times are really inconvenient. Morning classes are all at 8:30 or 9am, so if you have to work at 9am, you’re out of luck. The gym is crowded every time of day and maybe if they had better hours for classes, it wouldn’t be so crowded

My favorite place to workout over the weekend. This location opens at 7:00 am rather than the usual 8:00 am like the majority of other LA Fitness. This gives me an hour earlier to start my day, which is huge when your weekend is filled with other activities. Management, keep it up! If you can push for 6:00 am on Saturdays, even better.

I come to this gym all the time and to see this all the time is not fair for the customers. We pay a good amount of money to come enjoy this place and release our stress. I don’t like that most of the machines are out of service and they take about a month or more to service them. The sauna has been out of service for 3 weeks already, I don’t understand how they let these amenities go out for this long. Something has to be done because the regulars from this gym are over it.

I went to sign up on a Sunday spoke to Giovani he asked me for a post dated check and promised to deposit it next Thursday he lied and deposited on Monday. My bank charged me overdraft fees. The gym is not well managed.

The gym itsself is nice but the staff. I came in to ask for the free personal trainer lesson when it was over they kept pushing me to get personal tainer lesson and i bucketed under the pressure and ended up paying the year subscrpition. When it was FINALLY my time to cancel Franke told me he could only cancel the day of and when the day came he left early and the other employees made a big fuss that only he could cancel the lessons. the whole ordeal made me quit the gym, they also concevied my brother to get lessons he didnt need

Gym is good. Only thing that needs A LOT of attention is the free weights. At the end of the day. They should have someone organize the weights and put them where they belong. I've had other gym memberships before and they've all had their weights organized. It's not hard to have the equipment where it belongs. The day I see this change I'll be happy and everyone else will be too. The entire gym can be organized in 30 minutes. For the most part I love LA fitness.

Such a big shame when a nice gym gets the wrong clientele......THIS is what happens to a place. Management needs to enforce returning weights and equipment back to its proper location so OTHERS' who have paid for a decent gym experience, can have that decent gym experience. This place is as bad as Buckhead/Atlanta LaFitness.
I will go another 3 months without working out just to avoid the infuriating frustration of the people here.
I gave it 1 star for convenience of location but thats it.

I've been going here for 2 weeks now, the staff is super kind and approachable. I've been able to get assistance with what work outs to do thanks to a personal trainer. I know nothing about working out and my trainer (Humberto) has been amazing and super motivating!

I went to try this location today (12/30 @8:00pm) for the first time and got denied to use my guest pass received. Sales person was shallow and refused to let me work out without paying for a pass.!

I continued to explain to him that my wife has a membership that I pay for and that Ive never worked out at LA fitness so I was excited to give it a try.. This mid-20 Hispanic has the nerve to ignore everything I said and denied me because he incompetently thought I’ve worked out there before..! 🤦🏻‍♂️ He also thinks all gyms are the same…

I’ve been to many LA Fitness locations across SoCal, this one is the only one that I’ve seen so far that is really lacking in how many weights/plates are available, I have to keep scrambling around finding 10 lb plates. There’s also a lack of bench presses, every other gym I’ve been to (even smaller LA Fitnesses) always had 3-4 flat benches available, this one only has two. The equipment needs attention at this location.

LAFitness today was so cold in the small pool. This is the reason l got a membership at this particular LAFitness center. The only way for me to exercise is the Pool . I ask the attendant at the Desk to warm up the small pool like they do on the large swimming pool. It's not fair that l am not happy with have to be forced to exercise in cold water and winter season will be here soon. I am customer to!
