I joined the Encinitas LA Fitness yesterday. The facility seems fine. The issue is the membership sales practices.
She really gave me the hard sell. I was getting uncomfortable and said I felt like she was trying to sell me car. It turns out she lied to me about membership prices. She said there was a "special short term black Friday deal" on memberships that could be stopped at anytime, just 39.99 per month! I knew she was trying to work me, but the prices was ok, so I joined.
This morning I checked LA Fitness membership prices on-line, and that is the normal price of a basic membership. The only membership prices she had displayed at her desk were the 2 more expensive ones. Her manager, Christian, was sitting next to her, so she's not a rouge staff member. This is the management. If she had just been honest about all the membership options I'd still have joined and felt really positive. Now, I have a bad taste in my mouth about the place because I know I can't trust them. What a shame.

As a frequent traveler who visits many LA Fitness locations, I found this one to be a solid choice.

I like that the layout is all on one floor and is logically organized. The gym was clean and had a ton of equipment—including weights, functional training gear, cardio machines, and cycles.

While some of the equipment showed typical wear and tear, nothing was out of order, which isn't always the case at commercial gyms. I also appreciated that the cardio machines had personal entertainment devices, which is a nice perk.

My only small wish is that they had a sled and turf area.

Ol so if you have any health issues regarding lungs dont go in the mens bathroom or sauna. Literally can smell the sauna from the locker room maybe gets cleaned once a day and that is just apraying water down the floor and wood. And the bathroom has zero air flow and smells all day . If you go in in the afternoon its so bad. The staff is great but OMG the sauna and bathroom need to be cleaned more than once a day.

I did not like this particular LA fitness. There is no music being played and everything is old and smooshed together. It was so quiet to the point you could hear everyone’s breathing which I think is not very fair to us people that want a nice environment.

After defining a consistent workout routine for myself these past 14 months. I found machines I really enjoyed and supported the muscle groups I liked while being easy to use. Unfortunately, due to poor decision making from the management team. They have replaced several machines which were actually better than most you could find at other gyms, they weren't broken they worked fine, really popular machines. Such as the leg press, you could confidently know where your feet were everytime, since they had a grid plate for your feet. The safety levers were also super easy to locate, and now there is two which make no sense and are hard to grab. The T-bar row machine has been replaced with a ridiculous machine which you have to stand on. After being fatigued from other parts of my workout, I would rather not be doing extra work focusing on my form on a machine that is supposed to be simple to end my workout with. Unfortunately, I have to restructure my workout, completely getting rid of the T Bar row. I will leave this gym if things continue on this path. Wonder who benefited from the old equipment! -> Manager

I went there for a free 3 days trial after being a member of 24 hours fitness for years. But, LA fitness is the closest to my home, so I thought I’d give it a try. The push to buy membership starts right out of the door. If you don’t buy right away - the stuff becomes very unpleasant. My “manager” was Loui, who surprised me with being so boldly rude and obnoxious like this place is his. For my 11 years living in Encinitas, I have been to pretty much every sport club around and never seen a “manager “ like this. Most clubs concentrate on providing quality workouts and friendly atmosphere instead of harassing people into membership.

A result of poor upkeep and decision making. I honestly really liked this gym and a lot of their equipment when I first started working out here, but I was quick to notice that a lot of their equipment wasn’t properly oiled or well kept, and things that broke would often take weeks to fix. Additionally the gym would always run very hot, and during the summer there would be maybe 3 office sized fans around the gym scattered to keep the whole gym cooled off. I still really enjoyed the gym in spite of this because they had some older really great equipment that was rare to see anywhere else and was a staple of all my workouts. However, recently they’ve gotten rid of several of those pieces that were really a light in the dark when it came to this gym, so now it’s a mix of newer equipment that isn’t as good as what they replaced it with, and the actually crappy older equipment which they for some reason decided to keep. I have no idea why they decided to get rid of half of their most popular equipment for a worse replacement, but whatever. I’ll probably cancel my membership here soon, or go to the 4S ranch gym that is much nicer in quality, even if it’s 10 minutes further away

I would recommend not signing up for a membership in-person because they surprise you with two fees in addition to two they tell you about, and it’s really hard to see what you’re signing when it’s on as salesperson’s computer facing away from you. Next time I would do it online.

I am a new member here but I'm not sure for how long.. I have NEVER seen so many barefoot old men in all my life. In the locker room, on the equipment, in the boxing area, it is unbelievable. People are rarely wiping down equipment, the showers are crazy gross. The dry sauna is crowded with olds who sit there for hours. I dunno man. Could use some updating, barefoot policing, and maybe a stricter cleaning schedule.

Gym experience itself has been good just hope you don’t have to interact with the staff on the phone or in person. Maybe they have a special hiring protocol to include people with little social specialty. At least the amenities and space of the gym is nice.

Some details for those interested: My price point is $40/month with a $50 annual fee. They ask for first and last month at start. Single gym access (no other locations) and no guest passes ($20 each time you want to bring a guest)

Very unprofessional behavior from manager “Hector”
Went in for my first time today hoping to use my guest pass. Scanned it in and was about to walk away but they asked me for a License number to link to the pass. I gave them my number then they insisted I sit down with a manager for 5 minutes. I was confused as to why they wanted me to sit down. They insisted I sit down “or buy the day pass or leave” I asked why I had to talk to anyone I just wanted to work out. The manager was starting to look frustrated that I was confused. I have been to other GYMs before and never had to sit down for 5 minutes to talk. Which is why I was confused. I started feeling uncomfortable with the situation and decided I wanted to leave. I said “you know what I’ll just go to 24hr fitness” to avoid continuing to take up their time. Hector’s demeanor immediately changed and his voice increased drastically. As I turned around to walk out he charged in front of me and said he’d escort me out and then SLAMMED THE DOOR open in a very intimidating way.
I work in customer service at a business near by. I manage the store. It is beyond me how this manager couldn’t hold his frustration and had to have that outburst by slamming the door open. I get it’s not easy dealing with every customer, I get that some customers can be frustrating at times. But to be treated like I was the problem for being confused. To have the door slammed open because I wanted to leave? That would never be acceptable at the business I work for. Nor would I ever allow an employee to treat a guest or another employee the same way. From what I saw the gym looked nice, but the staff was not.

I stopped going to this gym because its so hot. they have no circulation in this building and the weight lifting area is in the furthest corner from the doors, so it gets really stuffy and hot in that area. Funnily enough, they found it necessary to keep the basket ball court at a good temperature, so they definitely CHOOSE to keep in hot in the other areas. I would argue its much more important to keep the people holding hundreds of pounds over themselves to be in better temps then just playing some basketball...I asked them several times to adjust it and nothing was done. They clearly don't care about their members here and just want to keep the electricity bill low. Would not recommend this gym if you don't do well in the heat when weight lifting.

This is a quality club. Both staff and patrons are good people who do their workouts, are friendly and focused. I lost my phone for a while and it wasn't turned in for a while. Janelle was at the front desk and did everything she could to help me find it, called it twice and even offered to use her phone to Find My Phone. Solid gym decent variety of equipment, can in certain peak hours get crowded. Worst thing about it though is the entire gym is so hot and humid it's essentially a sauna especially when it's busy, no fans for air circulation or windows and they refuse to have the AC set to a decent temperature. This is largely just teenagers managed by older teenagers and some salesmen.

The rules get really flimsy about closing when you have plans later, yknow? I guess if the membership contract wasn't so firm, it'd be more forgivable, but the dues and initiation, we'll that teenager doesn't care that closing isn't for another 30 minutes, but I do.

Corporate is well aware of these types of issues. They just pretend it isn't chronic and continue taking your payments.

I've been a member at LA Fitness, Encinitas for a little over a month. I work out consistently there and have been pretty disappointed. In the personal training area, they are missing 10# and 15# dumbbells. When I brought this to one of the employee's attention, he shrugged his shoulders and said people had been stealing them. I asked when they'll be ordering more and he replied, "We aren't." It was like the punishment of not having weights was at the members' expense.
Another thing I would like to address is one of the personal trainers Eileen E. She has made it clear to stay out of her way! She is rude to people working out in "her area" and doesn't appreciate the dedication, gains, or fitness of the company and its clients; it must just be a paycheck to her. I have been a part of the fitness community for years and everyone is allowed a bad day, but her daily toxic attitude isn't worth going back to this location.
I don't want this to reflect on the other personal trainers who work alongside their clients and fellow gymgoers. I enjoy the other trainers who demonstrate a sense of pride in their work ethic and love how we all support one another in reaching the same goal, to get fit!

With the cold weather we have been having they need to realize the sauna and spa need to be cleaned and sanitized more frequently got a weird skin rash I can't get rid of. Be careful. You'll know when the Jacuzzi is not clean the bubbles stand up thick and stiff with dirt in it and the water gets cloudy. Should be changed and cleaned much more frequently.
This place still panders to the Fox News watching elderly not so smart clientele.

There isn’t adequate access to wipes at this gym and the ones they provide are pitiful. As a result the equipment is unsanitary and there gym isn’t enough cleaning being done throughout the day. Lots of sweaty benches, dusty mats, and little hairs all around.

Be careful, they charge you your first and last month when you sign up so be sure to cancel it a month in advance. I tried to cancel it a month in advance but turned out I was charged already for the month and they wouldn’t reverse it. So, have to stick with this dirty gym for two more months.

HORRIBLE MAINTENANCE AND THE MANAGERS MISLEAD THEIR EMPLOYEES!

The basketball court was closed for renovations for 3+ months then they finally fixed the issue and 7 weeks later they closed their doors once again. The manager said that they would "reopen at the end of August, bro." Well, it's now the middle of September and they're expecting it to be closed for "another couple of weeks..." and therefore the basketball court will go unused for 6 months.

The best of the best. I’ve spent many hours in many different gyms but nothing compares to the LA Fitness in the Encinitas area. The manager was kind enough to give me a very nice tour and the staff was also very helpful. The trainers informed me of so much information so I truly trust everyone working there. They have every machine you could think of and the coolest pool. Never leaving this gym. Thank you guys!

First couple months at la fitness in encinitas has been awesome.especially because of new GM.Terance Kelly.his attitude and demeanor keeps me smiling. Also place is nice and clean .machines are fun but pool is exceptional. Two of the sales counselors are very professional..Ben and Shapor are credit to Gm ,s new way at the gym.

LA fitness in Encinitas is a very nice and clean gym. Coming to this branch for several years now. Recently the front desk staffs are less welcoming, mostly their head down on their phone… But overall satisfied with this place.

This gym is amazing. The staff is great, Aaron was able to help me out with my membership, he gave me a tour of the gym and showed me where everything was. The quality of the gym exceeded my expectations. The equipment is really well maintained and they have equipment for anything you want to work on. Best gym I’ve gone to so far. Thank you LA fitness.

This is an excellent gym:
never crowded, super clean, friendly staff. Some of the machines are a little older, but there are actually some great ones in there that you can't find at other gyms in the area, and all the newer machines that I used at 24hour Fitness in La Costa when it was open. I definitely would recomend this gym to friends and family. 💪🏻🤙🏻

Good gym has every piece of equipment you need. Not the most fancy place but it still has
a kids club which is huge. Including a basket ball court and pool. The price is super cheap as well.

I tried out the Encinitas LA fitness location yesterday. It was alright for the most part but most of the equipment had noticeable wear compared to other LA fitness locations such as the one at oceanside. Aside from that there was enough for me to get a decent workout in. All locations don't have working water fountains due to COVID restrictions for a little while so make sure to bring extra water

Awesome facility and not overly populated making it great for access to equipment. The only negative I have is the professionalism that was displayed on April 30th, 2021 at around 5PM. The receptionist was honed in on her phone and did not make eye contact when greeting. When utilizing the thermometer to get a temperature reading, the thermometer was positioned well in excess of about a foot and a half from my forehead at which point she told me I was good to go. I know for a fact she did not get an actual reading as I have used the same instrument she did when scanning contractors in my profession. It begs the question of how many other patrons she's let into this gym with possible covid symptoms. Made me feel uneasy. Aside from that, this gym is great.

Not a crowd which is nice and they offer spray bottles of dissenfectint which you use on the machines. Beware though because no one uses them! Feels like I'm the only one. Wish they would make it mandatory like they do masks Covid or not

I became a member in 2004 and loved the services, equipment and the environment! The staff was so friendly, always ready to step up when requested and respected my privacy the rest of the time. I remained a member for a few more years and unfortunately, let my membership lapse. Now, I plan to return and hope the gym is the same quality as when I left. I give them fives stars based on my past membership. Don’t hesitate to check them out!
