There are 3 LA Fitness locations in my vicinity, and this is my favorite one to go to! Has all the machine I enjoy and low traffic in the mornings. In a great area right by the 5 freeway.

I usually go to the Barranca location for aqua fitness classes, but their swimming pool has been closed for repairs. So, it started to come here on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Monday, Andrea H. teaches the class, but she appears to be not really an aqua aerobic teacher. Her moves are more like ballet moves and don't fit as water exercises. I hope LA Fitness could find a better teacher for Monday classes at this location. Other students have similar opinions.

Update:
I went swimming there lately. The chemical problem I reported a couple of years ago no longer exists. The water seems fine.

After swimming and using the jacuzzi at this LA Fitness (Michell) 4 times a week, I suffer from chlorine rash on my arms, legs and back. Since then, the rash persists while I continued swimming for another week. Now, I am going to try other LA Fitness location (e.g. Barranca) to see if the rash goes away.

I tried two other LA Fitness - one on Barranca and another in Woodbury Town Center. Neither of them caused chlorine rash. I liked the Barranca one better and that is where I go 3 times a week now.

I’ve really enjoyed my experience at this LA Fitness. The gym has a wide variety of machines and equipment, which makes it easy to get a full workout in without ever feeling limited. Everything is well maintained and in great condition, so I never have to worry about broken or outdated machines. On top of that, the facility is always clean and organized, which makes working out much more enjoyable. Overall, it’s a great place to train and stay consistent with fitness goals.

Beware of deceptive sales practices. Wife was charged and a $99 initiation fee rather than $25 to be added to my account. Also charged $105 for a new account for my 14 yo son when he could have just come with her as a complimentary guest. She called Lafitness corporate for a refund and they said this can be done within 5 days but had to be in person. Wife returned to the gym within 5 days and the manager said she could cancel but she would lose all fees charged so far (total of $295 between both memberships). The contract fine print provides a 5 day cancellation period with refund. This was not honored. We are disputing the charge with our credit card company.

I came into the gym to ask for a one month membership (before knowing that they didn’t offer one) before I go back to college. The sales person told me that I would be charged 55 dollars a month for the plan, and that I will be able to use one month and cancel it, but in no shape or form mentioned that when I first pay for the membership it pays for the first and last month the program, so I paid 110 dollars without being made aware until later that day when I checked my bank account. I then called the location saying that there was a misunderstanding and that isn’t what I was told, but they said they couldn’t do anything about it, and when I asked for a refund they said there are no refunds. I found out later when calling the corporate office that I could cancel and get fully refunded within a certain period of time after signing up. So not only did this location be extremely misleading with their prices, they also lied and said I could not refund. Extremely dissatisfied and honestly a terrible experience.

John. Didn't catch his last name or initial. I had to ask another employee for his name since he didn't even bother introducing himself while "helping" me. I'll start by saying I know LA Fitness is a big company, and hourly employees can only do so much when they have to follow LAF's rulebook on what they can and can't do. That wasn't the issue I had. I went in trying to bring my brother and my best friend in under guest passes, one that I was given by a worker for free, and another was my account "VIP guest pass". As I asked the front desk about guest passes, we were directed over to the offices where "John" was supposed to help us. So he was pretty obviously airpod-ed in, scrolling instagram on his phone on the center of the desk not even trying to hide it and not looking up as we walked to him. Had to basically tap him on the shoulder to get him to look up at us and he seemed bothered that we were disrupting his happy phone time haha. Long story short, my best friend had used a guest pass at LAF last June, so according to LAF guest pass rules, you can use another guest pass for a 12 month period. Was disappointed and kind of stuck since we didn't want to pay $20 for a single day guest pass (he has a 24 hour membership and there's one down the street). The main "issue" if you could call it was that this worker "John" didn't seem to care or have any emotion at all. As he was telling us that my "VIP guest pass" can't work since we used one last June, he just started at us blankly waiting for us to say something. Of course, my friend and I asked him if there was anything he could do. It was probably 2 weeks away from the pass "renewing" and we were literally just trying to get in an hour-long chest workout on a Friday. I wasn't sure if employees had the power to "swipe" people in once or give them a tour and let them in just by being nice. Again, I know employees have to follow LAF rules so I get that he didn't want to budge or "couldn't" help, but it was the LACK of emotion coming from this guy. I mean he literally seemed like he was annoyed that we even came to the desk. Eventually after having a silent moment with this guy, we started to walk away from the desk and said bye to my friend. I take a quick glance back at the desk and mind you, it was maybe three steps. "John" already had his airpod back in, his phone back on the center of the desk, and was already back to scrolling instagram. Not even a "im sorry bro, its company policy I wish I could help", just back to his phone time. Not sure how or what LAF tells its workers about the phone time they get while on the clock, but "John" here seemed like he was contempt with the amount of effort he was putting into his job. Overall just sad that "John" was at the front-most desk and was the first face of this LAF when being helped with memberships or guest passes. Could have caught him when he was dealing with something or was just having a bad day, but I can't lie and say that I wasn't disappointed by the lack of "employee love" i received.

The LA Fitness on Michelle Drive in Irvine offers a decent overall experience with some notable strengths and weaknesses. I was a long time member of LA Fitness and after a venture to other gyms (24hr and Planet) I'm back for a new membership. I stopped by today planning to sign up on my lunch hour. The guy that helped me was super friendly and gave me the $0.25 tour. When he showed me the pricing it was greatly different from the pricing on the website - like $10 more per month plus buy down fees and the $59 annual fee. Website is $39 or $49 - his pricing was $49 and $59 plus various other fees. I asked for some leeway on the pricing - $39/month and no buy down ($99) and he came back with $39/month and $79 buy down. After 30 minutes even offered to give him my cellphone if he could make that pricing work (since it seems highly negotiable) by the end of the month and I ended up leaving. LA Fitness holds a level up compared to its rival 24 Hours Fitness. With membership of about $35 to $40 it caters to mostly young professionals and college students. They converted the basketball court into private lessons gym which sits empty for the most part. And also a good part of the gym was converted to an artificial turf with tires, ropes, boxing bags, etc which looks nice but is not used by most of the members. Their swimming pool looks old and does not attract the younger gym members. It is used by just a few senior members. The lockers aren't being used by a lot of members since the shower and dry sauna are just very old and small. They have never offered a steam room. With other high end fitness centers like Lifetime and Equinox offering an attractive lifestyle for gym members, LA Fitness seems to be stuck in a nowhere land. Solution could be a total renovation to some of the locations, to begin with, and offering a gym lifestyle very similar to Lifetime, raise the membership fees but keep it lower than Lifetime.

I killed a cockroach in the sauna. The trashcan outside the entrance often overflows with garbage. Many patrons for whatever reason refuse to rerack dumbbells in their proper place. There’s always an issue in the locker room, whether it be a broken sink, toilet, or urinal. This place embodies the debacle that is LA Fitness. If you love cheap, this is your haven. Enjoy!

The machines that everyone needs or wants to use they have only 1-2 of but the equipment no one really needs are all empty so when you go work out there you can never really use the equipment you need to. Basic free weights like regular dumbbells one can buy and use at home. Biking and running people can do outside of the gym. It’s the equipment that people don’t have in their homes that one signs up for at the gym to use. They should get more of those and get rid of the other equipments.

This is the second time I've had to deal with this place. The first time, they charged me for services I never signed up for, ignored my explanations, and lied about it. The salespeople were vaping inside without any excuses, and when I mentioned it to the manager, she didn’t seem to care at all.

Recently, my son left his glasses at the gym, and we couldn’t find them the next day. It seemed like someone had taken them, but who would want someone else's glasses? The representative told me she didn't have access to the security cameras and that only the manager did, but he/she would only be available on Monday. When we came back on Monday, the manager was completely unhelpful. She said she didn’t have access to the cameras either and didn't even try to assist us. I sent a message to LA Fitness to try to find someone who could access the cameras, but I had no luck. I received another useless response that ignored the details of my message.

Be careful leaving your belongings in the gym—you’re unlikely to get them back if you accidentally leave them behind.

I give this LA Fitness by far a 0. I signed up for LA Fitness a few years ago for access to every club in the Nation. I pretty much go daily and literally have went all over the country to Esporta and LA fitness. This LA fitness attendant stops us and says our membership doesn't work for this club and we need to pay $86 each and add an additional $7 monthly to enter this club. So myself and my wife then ask ok well can we see the club and try it out to decide if we like the difference. Her response was sure since your a member you can pay the daily fee. Lol, this is the customer service LA fitness is giving to their members of which I am still very furious I have thought my membership covers every gym in the Nation. You can go online and get a free daily, 3 day, weekly pass or whatever they are running at the time. But as a member you won't even let me see the difference in a gym I had no clue I wouldn't have access to. Would you sign up for something you have no clue what it entails? Am I wrong for wanting to see a gym before deciding to upgrade. This is a 0 to the attendant girl in the front working Sat Jun 9th at noon.

The equipment is getting old and worn out. The padding on lots of equipment is torn. Long overdue for repair. The business hours are still very inconvenient. Do NOT sign up at this gym. They have a very slimy business model as well as workers who only care about the business and not the customers. I signed up for a 90 day summer discounted membership 30 months ago and haven’t visited the gym once in 27 months. I have been getting billed constantly after the 90 days ran out without one notice. God forbid you sign up for a guest pass and they will be calling you everyday for a month. Additionally, once I found out and asked how much I have been getting billed they laughed to my face in person and said $40 as a joke when it was $28 further showing the lack of remorse the employees have. Losing over $800 of hard earned money seemed hilarious to them. I then wanted to cancel my membership and they suggested to freeze my account without notifying me ONCE in person that there is a freezing fee. Being a kind person and innocent to their tactics I agreed and was billed 2 weeks later for freezing my account. This gym does not care about the people who provide them business. Sign up for the 24 hour fitness across the street. They have workers who are friendly, cooperative, and put their customers first. Plus they have better and more equipment.

If you are not familiar with the area, I suggest you don't go to this
LA Fitness. The route is very complicated and it's so easy to get on to the toll road 261. And even if you get close to the right plaza, the design of the plaza is so weird. There's no front entrance to go to the LA Fitness where it faces. You have to go around all the way to the back to find the entrance into the "plaza". It's not even a plaza, but a complex building with parking spaces with no front entrance. LA Fitness's front gate is facing the main road but you cannot access it from the main road. Just be careful. Don't get on to toll road. Even you follow GPS you might get lost because the road condition is just complicated.

THE POOL IS A HEALTH HAZARD!!!

The metal racks in these pictures were installed just recently, but for some reason are rusting like crazy! The staff are clearly adding harsh chemicals to the pool water rather than properly cleaning them. I know people who use this facility suffering from skin breakouts, shortness of breath, and damaged swimming gear.

This place gets 5 stars for horrible hygiene. Just look at the shower curtains!

Gym is always packed which makes it hard to have a good workout especially for those into proper bodybuilding. For the amenities offered, I believe you’re better off at other local gyms.

i dont recommend this gym, as soon as you have any questions about anything after you sign up, good luck getting it answered, customer service is trash, they also charge. a 5 dollar fee to add a new debit card, i hope it was worth the 5 dollars to lose a customer

I’ve been wanting to leave this review for a while now. I want to bring attention to one of the amazing Janitor staff, Angel. Back in February, my boyfriend had an accident at this gym in which one of the weights slipped and ripped off his pinky nail. He was in excruciating pain and rushed to the men’s locker room, luckily without fainting. I felt helpless at that point since I couldn’t enter to help my boyfriend. Luckily Angel was there and kindly helped my boyfriend when no one else did. He was bleeding all over and no one else helped. I took my boyfriend to the ER after that and he’s better now.
After that, Angel has greeted us every time we workout and has been very friendly and makes the gym feel welcoming. Way more than some of the people you have in the front btw. I also see him working so hard, making sure everything is clean and re-racks the weights when he can. I’ve even seen him re-rack the weights after the trainers rudely leave them behind after a training session. Your trainers should know better gym etiquette.

5+ stars to Angel and his dedication to this gym! His hard work does not go unnoticed!!
I am however giving the gym as a total a 4 for other reasons.

We've been members of this location for the past 3 years. The cleaning crews are constantly working to keep the facility as clean as possible. Very nice and friendly staff. Kudo especially to the operation manager, Andrews.

I try to attend my gym daily or as my schedule allows me too. However listening to other members they said this is one of the best out of other locations. Because it has a big pool, jacuzzi n dry sauna. Clean locker rooms, and the machine area us ample space with plenty of different types of work out equipments. They also have racketball courts to play separately with ur friends or other members.

Terrible workers, very disrespectful to customers and very impatient. The staff was nice and convincing when you’re getting a membership but after you spend money on the membership, they flip the switch and began acting rude. The bathroom and locker rooms are all dirty and not properly maintained. The whole place is a total mess. Be prepared, don’t waste your time and money!!!!!

I had a very sour experience with LA fitness couple of months back. I went to LA fitness just to inquire about its membership programs with the intention of joining later. At that time, I discussed with center manager Jon. Somehow, I made a mistake by giving him card info at that time. He promised me to charge it whenever I plan to join membership and training. Later, I got busy in my work and didn't get a chance to follow up with them. To my surprise, they charged my card not only for annual membership and three months advance fees without my consent. I saw these charges in my credit card statement after a month.

Here is the kicker. I thought they would admit their mistake and they would refund me gently. Could you believe that I ended up making dozen calls to LA fitness, went there in person couple of times to meet their ghost operations manager Yelise who never comes to the facility ? They should have a courtesy to follow up whenever they are available. After losing all hopes from this center, I have connected to their corporate office for my refund and yet not received it.

My best advice : Start home gym and don't waste your precious time and money here.

Updates : After few attempts, I was able to get support from an amazing lady in corporate office support and get those refund finally. God bless her !!

Andrew V. is probably the worst manager I’ve ever spoken to, and interacted with in my life. This LA Fitness WAS my home gym and I’m now switching my family over to 24 hr Fitness after what Andrew V. had done to me and my family. Seriously unprofessional and was very hostile to my family and I. Not to mention he made me do his own job by getting someone for him!! We immediately left the facility as we didn’t want to start an escalation with Andrew. Giving us fake names, and numbers after we politely asked him for it. Thankfully the front desk lady was nice enough to mention his actual name. Andrew is super untrustworthy, as customers how are we suppose to go to a facility where the manager can’t even trust the members that go to the gym? If you want to take my advice, workout at another LA Fitness or take your business to another gym like 24hr, or planet fitness.

I would like to First say I’ve been a member of LA Fitnesses for over 9 years and I have never had such a horrible experience than I had with Fitness Sales Manager Andrew V. Andrew V try to use his position as an excuse to overuse his authority. Andrew V accused me of trespassing and was trying to cancel my membership for no reason.Andrew was upset that I asked him if my cousin could get a guess pass and if we could come back to him for a membership at a later time. Andrew did not like the fact that he wasn’t making commission so he started to come at me very aggressively. As a man I know when to walk away from a situation so I left to the basketball court. After he had gotten my cousins situation situated he requested that I come back and give him my phone number or he wouldn’t let me in. I had told him that I had scanned my barcode and that he could look at the cameras or the computer logs. I would of scanned my barcode again but he kept asking for my phone number at the sales computer. I felt uncomfortable giving it to him at that point because he was coming at me very aggressively and was making the situation very hostile he kept clenching and staring at me in an unprofessional manner and kept saying is there something wrong looking to cause problems. It is quite obvious that Andrew V has little man syndrome and must over use his authority as a La Fitness Manager to get a sense of accomplishment in his life. Andrew is so scared for taking responsibility that I asked him for corporate’s number and his name to which he gave me a fake name and fake phone number which is totally unacceptable by an employee who is supposed to follow company policy. I had to ask another employee for his name. This just goes to show that Andrew V knew that what he did was wrong and did not want to get in trouble for representing LA Fitness in such a bad manner and for accusing a paying customer of 9 years for trespassing. I am completely appalled by this situation and would like La Fitness to take a further look at employe Andrew V for his inexcusable behavior.

Super crowded all the time since the hours have not returned to the pre-Covid hours. They need more staff to keep the place clean. The gym often stinks like urine, and there are puddles of sweat around the stationnaire bikes. There are drips of water from the ceiling from failing air-conditioning units, and of course it's hot. The little free lockers are all on the lock mode and no one will fix them. They need more staff. I used to really like this gym, I'm thinking of switching to 24 Hours down the street. I'm hoping this truth telling will have an effect. the only good thing at this point is their staff

Pros: clean, weights are re-racked, new equipment, good variety of cardio, basketball, pool and racketball.

Cons: Always seems busy. Ever since they cut their hours post covid it's been a struggle to find an open bench or squat rack. Barbells are taken from bench press areas and aren't returned.

Some context for the purpose of this review, we used to be LA Fitness members about 7 years ago. We recently decided to give this gym a try. We signed up for a guest pass through the LA Fitness website and received a 3 day pass. On day 1 everything was fine, they took our info and granted us access to the club. Upon the arrival of the 2nd day we we were denied access and we were told guest passes were not be given to former LA fitness members. After back-and-forth with the staff we asked to speak with the manager but the manager refused to speak to us. Nevertheless we left and we continue to have a sour experience with LA Fitness.

Horrible hygiene at bathroom shower. Shower curtain never washed and have fungus. Pink and yellow dirty stuff(also fungus or stain?) on the shower tiles, hairs on the drain. It have been months, never never fixed problems. I concern it can be a huge health issues.
