When I came to open the card, I actually only needed it for one month. They said the minimum period for opening was two months, and I agreed. After it ended, I went to the store to request to stop the card. Their staff found my membership information and confirmed the card suspension with me. However, I found that they were still deducting money, for more than half a year. I went to the store again, but they refused to refund the money, only agreeing to stop the current deduction. It's terrifying. Everything seems like a scam. They will do anything to make you pay more.

I contacted them for support about an issue with my account. The first staff member I spoke to was very unprofessional and rude, even hanging up on me multiple times. After this, I decided to visit in person. When I arrived, I spoke with someone at the check-in desk, who lied to me, even about their name, that’s why I asked for their manager , I noticed when I talk to their manager he with a friend, mocked me in a very disrespectful way. I felt extremely embarrassed by their rude behavior.
Finally, I spoke with the sales manager, who was polite and professional, but the earlier unprofessional and mocking behavior was very disappointing and upsetting

I was very disappointed with the front office staff at LA fitness. The level of rudeness was unacceptable, and it’s clear that not just anyone should be hired for customer-facing roles. A little respect for customers goes a long way, and unfortunately, that was completely lacking in my experience. Management should seriously consider training their staff on professionalism and basic courtesy. Also machines is too old and broken never updated, other locations have most updated machines not sure why this one no one care about it.

The worst LA Fitness I have even been to, dirty, broken equipment, unprofessional staff who don't care about what they do and what they say.
Too bad that I have no other choice because it is close by where I live. Otherwise, I will never want to come here.
I helped my cousin joined LA Fitness last year. He rarely uses the membership. His dad asked me to cancel it for him since he was under my account. His monthly membership was due on the 12th each month. I went in at the end of last month to cancel his membership. After telling the staff in the office to cancel his membership, he told me done, your cousin's membership had been canceled. This staff didn't give me any paperwork saying my cousin's membership was canceled.
Surprisingly, my credit card got charged on the 12th. I went in the same day to dispute. A staff in the front desk looked into my account. My cousin's membership was still valid. So the guy I spoke to at the end of the last month didn't cancel my cousin's membership. Either he did it on purpose or he didn't care about it. What an unprofessional staff! The front desk staff told me that I needed to talk to the manager, a lady supposed to come in around 9AM on certain days.
Fine, I went in around 9AM last Tuesday. She was busy, she didn't even bother to talk to me, only had a staff from the office talk to me. That staff told me he would request a refund of $34.99 for me. It would take 3 to 4 days to show on my credit card.
I waited and waited, that never happened. So I went in to talk to the manager again today. She told me that there was not proof that I came in last month to cancel my cousin's membership. I told her that your staff didn't do his job. She told me that those were the salesmen. She was not in charge of the salesmen. Sounded very complicated here. Basically, she couldn't do anything for my $34.99 refund. So who was in charge of the salesmen?
I told her that I would yelp this place one star and google this place one star, too. She didn't care. I asked her name. She told me her name. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to spell it either she was speaking too fast or I wasn't too familiar with American names. So I asked her to spell her name for me. She refused.
I will call my credit card company to dispute this $34.99.
It gave me the kind of impression that bunch of careless and incompetent staff working there. Maybe because of the location, this place can still survive.
Hope someone has the choice to go to another LA fitness location won't bother to come to this one. The experience of this one sucks!
Hope the owner of this location cares about his or her business, improves this business with some good plans.

This place is terrible, the employees lied about my cancellation. The guy told me on my face that my membership was cancelled successfully which was not true. After I got charged, I made phone call, the guy said he processed the refunds which was not true. I called again, they put me on the hold forever. Every machine in there is either half broken or wiggly. The PT and Peloton areas are highly prioritized, which is of course basically always empty. This makes the experience super fun if you like having two people breathing on you at all times. It gets really cramped up in the grass area where you should be able to do stretches and weights. This area also gets really smelly since I don’t think they clean this area very well, or at all, including the yoga mats. Some of the staff members are also quite rude.

The equipments at this gym are so outdated, rusted, and constantly breaking down. Instead of proper repairs, they only apply temporary fixes. Many machines, including the treadmills, are out of calibration. The treadmill belts in particular were replaced poorly and now slips, making them unsafe to use. You’d figure since it’s Irvine, they would at least use decent equipment.

Used the 3 day pass to check out the gym. The salesperson was kind enough but you could tell her was new. Followed up at appropriate intervals but we decided to put it on hold. Just spoke to the sales rep who called back (was sent to voicemail) then immediately called again singing "Happy Birthday". I assumed they had the wrong number. After singing he then went into his sales pitch. Odd and unprofessional but unique. The reason for the 1 star is how unprofessional and condescending he was after I explained we are holding off due to time constraints. He responded by saying "so you got the free pass but you don't have time to sign up, ok. It's ok, I get it" implying with his tone and speech we only wanted a free pass. I will be directing a complaint to their superiors. I'm his is a learned behavoir from other sales personnel on that team since he is very new to sales. Looks bad on LA Fitness to have this level of unprofessionalism from their sales team.

I am writing to file a complaint regarding the handling of my membership freeze and cancellation process, which has caused me significant inconvenience, financial loss, and emotional distress.
In April, I submitted a membership freeze request for June and July, paying the $30 fee ($15/month) as instructed, due to travel plans to Korea. After that, I realized I would not be able to return until after August 15 and requested an additional freeze extension for August.
However, multiple staff members at the Irvine,CA location informed me that they could not process the change and directed me to the main email. After sending several emails, I finally received a response, only to be redirected again to the Irvine manager — who also claimed they couldn’t help.
Subsequently, I received an email from a staff member named Natali asking me to call her. I paid for international calling and called at 3 PM PST, only to be told she was unavailable. Additionally, during this call, I was treated in a racially insensitive manner by the receptionists, which I found deeply upsetting.
I followed up via email again and was told to call back during working hours. When I tried again the following week, I was once again told she was unavailable — only to later discover that Natali works in a different state. I was never informed of her exact location or time zone, which caused confusion and loss of both time and money.
Out of frustration, I requested cancellation of my membership and a refund for the last month, which I have not used due to being abroad. However, I was told that I now “owe” $15 for the August freeze — even though I had already requested it during my frozen period in July — and that no refund will be issued since the cancellation has been processed.
This situation makes no sense:
If my membership is now canceled and cannot be used, why am I being charged for August freeze?
If you charge the freeze fee for August, then I should be able to activate and use the last paid month in Aug
I requested cancellation during my freeze period — I did not have a chance to use the final month I paid for.
I believe I am entitled to a refund for the final month or at least a fair resolution.
I would like to escalate this issue to higher management or a corporate-level representative. I am deeply dissatisfied with the lack of clear communication, the unprofessional handling, and especially the discriminatory treatment I experienced.
Please advise me of the correct department or contact to formally escalate this issue to.

This gym is continuously declining. New staffs who works over there extremely unprofessional. Constantly pacing around while talking on the phone as he supposedly helping me. I asked if there is any promotion or deal as my parents go to this gym and guy just straight up didn't care anything and made me to go with the original plan for the monthly membership. Turns out LA fitness offers family plan but the guy did not even offer me this. With that kind of don't care attitude really making me doubt about this place.

The salesperson is extremely unprofessional and kept pressuring me to subscribe to a membership. I had initially tried to use the 3 day pass, but they claimed it was invalid. Even after I insisted several times that I just came back from college and wanted to look at all the gyms in Irvine, he kept trying to passively aggressively pressure me into subscribing by saying things such as "didn't you come here to work out" and "you want to work out with roaches in 24 hr?". The whole experience made me super uncomfortable and I was only able to leave after insisting multiple times I needed to go home and eat lunch.

If you cancel your membership in person at the gym, make sure they print you a receipt of cancellation!
I cancelled my membership yesterday, and the salesperson said a cancellation email was sent to my email on file, and he read off my email address to confirm, and he said I was all set. I checked my email later on and nothing.
I stopped by the gym this morning to make sure the cancellation had gone through and my membership was still active.
It could have been an honest mistake but I’ve been scammed by fitness gyms too many times in the past to think so. In my experience this is typical. I should have asked for a receipt yesterday or made sure the email came through.

It wasn’t a respectful experience at all. They gave me a one-week pass, so I came to the gym at 11am, fully dressed with my gym bag, ready to start my week. But the person who was supposed to activate the pass was very rude and told me I had to buy a membership first, and then they would honor the free week. I went to the front desk to speak with a manager, but they said he was at the bank and no manager was available. So I had no choice but to leave and go back home to Laguna Hills.

Avoid! Predatory Billing and Awful Customer Service
Avoid LA Fitness at all costs. After years of loyal membership.. both myself and my family, I canceled in person when moving out of California. Despite that, they continued billing me for 6+ months, which I only noticed because I rarely used that credit card.
When I brought this to their attention and provided proof that I’d left the country and hadn’t used the gym once, they still refused to refund me. Their excuse? I no longer had the cancellation receipt.. something that had been automatically deleted from my email trash folder. They could easily see that I no longer used facilities after Feb of 2024.
This isn’t just poor service, it’s predatory behavior. They show zero goodwill to long-term customers and prioritize squeezing money over doing what's right.
Use Planet Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness instead.

The trainer you pay for doesn’t seem to care at all. A trainer should always pay attention to your workout-that’s the whole point of paying them, so you don’t end up doing something wrong or unsafe. But that’s not the case at this gym. They’re constantly on their phone and barely paying attention while you exercise. My son received a 3-day trial pass, and I had planned to gift him a 1-year membership after his trial. Since he is a minor, I had to accompany him on the first day.
The trial voucher had to be used within 30 days, and we realized it had been 28 days, so we called the gym beforehand to confirm its validity. The staff member we spoke to assured us it was still valid. However, when we arrived at the gym, the staff on-site claimed it was not.
Confused, we left but decided to call the gym again to clarify. Once again, we were told the trial was valid. When we returned to explain the situation, the staff was extremely rude and unprofessional in handling the issue.
After much hassle, they finally registered my son for the trial, and he completed his first session. However, when he returned the next day, they claimed he was not in the system and denied him access. When I called to ask what had happened, I was told that the staff member we had dealt with was not working that day and that there was "nothing they could do."
How can a business operate with such disorganization and incompetence? Staff member there was extremely unprofessional and rude especially the front office staff. It’s unacceptable for a fitness center in Irvine to have staff like this. I didn’t even bother visiting again and have no intention of ever doing so. As long as they continue providing such poor customer service, we will never use this facility.

Good gym with kids club. Some of the equipment is a little old but in good condition. Swimming classes for kids at pool in gym which is very convenient for us. It does get crowded in the evening but I am still able to use most of the equipment without any problem. The gym is clean and employees are good. My daughter loves their kids club.

This gym is ridiculously overcrowded. They only one flat bench press by the dumbbell rack. I canceled my membership just 3 days of being there because nearly every equipment is occupied. The staff really are lazy for not organizing the dumbbell rack alone. That is a nightmare and embarrassment. Also, the girl who opens in the mornings clearly is socially special. Everything is messed around, and it took time to find dumbbells. This is at 6 a.m. Nothing has been cleaned since last night. Some bars on the side of the Private Zone are grabbed from outside the private zone and are in use when needed. The incline on several treadmills does not work. Staff do not care about your problem.

the most horrible gym of this chain that I have been to! in the personal zone there is a place for a glute bridge, there are no other places like this in the gym. I always use this zone for this exercise. but today I was forbidden. I went to the neighboring zone for cross fit and started doing it there, I also needed dumbbells for the barbell, but I was forbidden to take them from the personal zone and suggested that I take them in the zone at the other end of the gym! that is, I have to drag heavy dumbbells from one part of the gym to another? are you serious!?

First, let me tell you that I am a foreigner who is not good at English.
To sum up my opinion, dishonest staffs and deceptive sales methods.
A staff told me to sign up for a membership right away when I went to use the guest pass, preventing me from using the guest pass. Since I requested to use a guest pass, I thought that even if I signed up for a membership, the membership period would start after guest pass 3 days, but the staff did not activate my guest pass without any mention.
2 days later, I knew my guest pass was not activated, so I protested. Even though another staff told me that my membership payment would be canceled when I requested cancellation for the above reasons, my membership payment was not cancelled.
5 days later, I knew my membership payment was not cancelled. Another staff who heard this situation said, 'I can't cancel your membership. I don't know what is problem.', 'You've already signed up for membership, so why do you need a guest pass?'
Even if you go to la fitness, please go to another branch.

I love this gym! The facility has everything I need, there are a lot of options for machinery and classes, the staff is friendly and genuine and kids Klub is so affordable. Literally the messiest gym I’ve ever been to… it’s quite embarrassing. This is my least favorite location out of all the Irvine locations for this reason. This location is closest to my house so I go here out of convenience but I dread thinking about having to deal with the groups of high schoolers walking around in flocks and taking up every machine
People have no gym etiquette here and throw weights all over/don’t know how to put them back. You’re always looking for the matching pair to a set of dumbbells and there’s never consistency in what’s available.

The gym is nice enough and has quite a bit of equipment. The cleaning crew seems to be always busy and working through the equipment and bathrooms.
The only really annoying thing about this place is the clients who sit on the equipment on their phones. It’s a kind of next level rudeness and lack of awareness. I have on occasion waited for a machine for five minutes while a person sat texting or scrolling. The offending parties are of all ages… Teenagers, 20 somethings and also senior citizens.

Weight room and functional training area is in a perpetual state of disarray. The personal trainers have cordoned off 50% of the functional training area to keep gym goers out of that area. Effective reducing the functional training and equipment use by 50%.
Maintenance staff regularly creates safety hazards with their extension cords.
Wildly inconsistent enforcement of gym rules. Friends with someone that works there? Guess the rules don’t apply to you.

This place is terrible.
It’s always hot and humid inside, all the equipment is dirty and usually in some state of disrepair, and it’s always INCREDIBLY CROWDED.
This is a bigger problem caused by the city of Irvine who continues to build mass housing in the neighborhood but refuses to add any retail space. Typically a business run this poorly would go out of business, but since there are no alternatives in the area people have no choice but to come here.

I just recently purchased a membership here because I absolutely loved the convenience and versatility I experienced when having the free VIP pass. As someone who is constantly on the go, it’s nice being able to access so many locations nearby, as well as having many machines/spaces available with the size of the gym and lots of different options for workouts.
Edgar at the East Irvine location was especially super helpful. He completely went out of his way to help me get my membership and facilitated every step from A to Z with great levels of communication, and amazing customer service. And he also speaks Spanish and Chinese 😄

The biggest scammer. I got Personal Trainer. They were really bad. I wanted to cancel PT after a few sessions. They said ok to cancel, and told me "you will get refund in 10 business days". Ok. It’s an LA fitness. The usual problems you get with large corporate gyms exist here but they at least try to keep the place up at this location. For the most part the machines work, place is clean, and staff is friendly.
The downside? The clientele. There doesn’t seem to be any gym etiquette here. I would say the majority of the clients here are respectful, however, there are pockets of young adults that group up and take over sections of the gym. That’s fine, but get off your phone or stop flexing at yourself in the mirror and let other people use the equipment and bathroom. The horseplay has caused me to stop working out because they almost fall into me while doing reps. The bathroom gets blown out at the end of the day with people just tossing paper towels but staff does try to stay on top of it.
Overall, I have no major complaints. Kids will do kids stuff, just have to not let it bother you and continue to get your sweat on.
There is plenty of parking and a janky juice bar that can’t quite figure it out yet.

I asked the salesperson, an older Asian lady, multiple times about the cost of a membership, but she kept deflecting my questions until I firmly informed her I wanted to see the facilities and understand their pricing plans before I went any further.

I've been trying for a couple of years to connect with a personal trainer at multiple locations, and I couldn't find one who would show interest in helping me. I have had trainers who would not show up, not pay attention to my needs, or quit after a few weeks. So unprofessional! Then I came here even though it's further away. Brandon is excellent, comes up with different ideas each session, and for the first time in years, I feel like I'm really making progress.
The club is clean and well maintained, and the rest of the staff is friendly. Much better than some other nearby locations.

LA Fitness store in Irvine Woodbury for arbitrarily canceling my membership. My membership was unjustly terminated. I suspect it was due to a staff member's malicious reporting and unfounded complaints against me. I personally have not received any complaint notifications or related information. If someone did lodge a complaint against me, I have a right to know. Without any investigation or evidence, they chose to cancel my membership. I believe this is wrong. I feel discriminated against because I am an Asian female with limited English skills. I think they took someone else's false accusations against me seriously and decided to cancel my membership card on their own. This feels like racial discrimination and is unfair.
I have already rallied many fellow gym members to sign a petition on my behalf, attesting that I have not had any disputes or altercations with anyone during my workouts or Zumba classes. I have always had pleasant interactions with everyone. If my membership was terminated without any investigation, it's purely racial discrimination.
I hope this matter will be thoroughly investigated. I demand the restoration of my membership and an apology from the person responsible for its unwarranted cancellation.

Do you like scavenger hunts!? If you answered yes then this Lafitness location is the one for you. I often travel for work so I go to many different la fitness locations and so far this is one of my least favorites. Good luck trying to find a free bench in the dumbell area and if you do find one have fun trying to find 2 of the same weight dumbell. When you go over to the cable machines you will have just as hard of a time getting a spot and when you do there will be no attachments for different muscle groups. At other locations they have a bin with the different attachments there next to the cable machine, now i am not sure if this is just hidden so.ewhere in the gym but I was not able to find it. Lastly most of the equipment is outdated here. The good thi g I will say is the squat rack seems to be open more often than other locations I have been to, atleast around 5 am when I have been here.

The manager said the shortest membership is two months, but I only have a month left before leaving, so the manager offered me a two month deal for $100. Weekday 10AM, the place is at 90% capacity. Breaking up with a gym is like breaking up with your ex. Its a nice facility with everything you would need, but how you part ways is a good indicator of business-as-usual and its character.
I moved into Irvine with an all-club membership but have another gym closer now. During cancellation staff member asked where I would be moving to and explicitly stated that the new gym I am signing up for is closing in 3 months. Regardless if factual or not this is 1.) very unprofessional and 2.) questionably legal.
This is in additional the the typical cancellation pressures of asking you to freeze membership (i.e., paying 10 $/mo for nothing) and telling you if you came back your membership would be nearly double what you currently pay.
This kind of business practice is very discouraging to see. If you want my business again, then open up another location instead of grossly trying to milk long-term members that just are not a good fit anymore.

ATTN NEW MEMBERS: Cancellation is a nightmare. You can only cancel in person with a manager (who often is busy) from 9am-5pm. I had to try 4 different times to cancel my membership. It's risky to email them for a cancellation because their response time is slow, "within 5-7 days". LA fitness will do everything in their power to pressure you to sign for a membership when you try to just get a 3 day free pass. There is over an hour of "information gathering" in which they ask you BS questions about your goals and they even weigh you and get your body fat % before you can even try the gym. They will offer you a "free personal training session" but it entails asking the same dumb questions over again in regards to your "body goals". Such a waste of time. The gym is overcrowded and dirty. I prefer even 24 hour fitness compared to this. Garbage gym. Employees are money driven and not friendly.

Honestly, it's the absolute worst. Not that LA Fitness gyms, in general, are very desirable. However, this specific one is a special kind of terrible. It's small and FILTHY. It is full of unruly teenagers running around shirtless with no resemblance of any kind of gym etiquette. The equipment is dated, rusted, and always broken. There is not enough equipment for how crowded it gets. The workout benches are a hazard waiting to happen, as the bolts in the ground are loose and the benches rock wildly as you sit on them, hopefully you've done your stabilization training prior to trying a heavy incline dumbbell press.
The staff is nice, although that is the only redemptive quality this gym has to offer. Needs to be overhauled, remodeled, and all new equipment.
Don't waste your time, drive 10 minutes away to the jamboree/Michelle or culver/barranca locations, they are much better cared for.
