Complained about it to the onsite staff three weeks ago but nothing was done. It may be time to move to a new workout facility!!

I was verbally assaulted in the pool lane by another member screaming and flushing his both middle fingers at me. I came to complain and seek help at the reception. The person, called himself Brad, asked me to come to the pool and when we both did, he told the person who just assaulted me that he was fine and I was wrong for not asking his permission to join in the shared lane. He also told me in front of my abuser that it all was all my fault after all for being treated this way. I am reporting Brat to the corporate office. Brad also claimed he was “the owner” of the club and upon running due diligence no ownership and no franchise is an option for LA branches. He was misrepresenting and abusing his position at the very least. His actions were discriminatory towards me as a woman as all the other males in the pool area cheered him up.

This used to be my go-to LA Fitness location mainly because it was always clean and well-maintained, but over the past few months, I’ve noticed several issues that have really changed my impression.
First, the paper towel dispensers are empty most of the time. I’m not sure if people are taking extra or if they’re just not being refilled regularly, but it’s become a recurring issue. It might seem like a small thing, but paper towels are one of the most basic and inexpensive essentials a gym can provide. When they’re missing, many people skip washing their hands altogether, which isn’t sanitary.
Second, the sauna is in poor condition. One of the large wooden planks on the bench is broken and has clearly been that way for a while. It doesn’t look like there’s any regular maintenance or inspection schedule in place. It’s both unsafe and disappointing to see this level of neglect in a facility that charges monthly membership fees.
Lastly, I don’t have an issue with homeless individuals using the gym, everyone deserves access to showers and a safe space. However, if that’s the case, the cleaning crew needs to do a more thorough job to make sure all areas, especially the locker rooms and sauna, are consistently cleaned and sanitized.
This location used to set the standard for cleanliness and upkeep, but lately, it feels like management has stopped paying attention. I really hope they take these concerns seriously and bring it back to the level it once was.

Ready to cancel 2 memberships. This location has been slowly spiraling down the toilet. I've been a member for a long time. I'm now paying for 2 memberships to cover my 19 year old as well. While she was home for the weekend, I wanted to bring my 14 year old to the club, who had signed up for a guest pass but only used it once in that 7 day trial period. I was told by Alex that my only options were to pay $20 or increase one of my 2 memberships to include guests. He made no effort to look into the situation first and even confirm the state of my account or my 14 year old. He seemed bothered already being asked to get up from his desk to come take care of our situation. This in a club that consistently does not have a working jacuzzi or sauna. Drinking fountains that taste like oil because they have probably never been cleaned, and a loud beeping fire alarm at the entrance that seems to go ignored for days at a time. Rules also never go enforced. Patrons regularly pour liquid over the rocks in the sauna, go directly from the sauna dripping with sweat directly into the pool and random old men will do laps walking behind you on the treadmills instead of walking on the treadmill itself. Cleaning staff will decide to wet mop the floor directly underneath you while you are on the bench press, forcing you to breath in their cleaning chemicals and step onto wet floor leaving the equipment. Im paying almost $80 a month to watch a club have the bare minimum put into it and I can't get accommodations for my 14 year old to work out for an hour?

Been a member for many years. Some of the rudest people work at this location. Completely useless if there are any issues with equipment or any other machine in the gym. When you ask for a manager on duty they lie and tell you the person is not available. The lack of accountability is frightening especially when this place is supposed to support health and wellness. LA Fitness cheating people. I registered for daughter month to month for 3 months summer time and I paid 2 months in advance but after 2 weeks I saw they charged me $59 annual fee. The worker did tell me for annual fee. Can you believe it for 3 months you must pay whole year fee. I called customer service and they refused to refund to me. He said you signed contract. How you can read all contract details on laptop. He told me that you paid only monthly. Be careful when you signing contract with LA Fitness. They have hidden fees.

I must express that the public area appears to be well-maintained. However, I was quite disappointed by the evident lack of proper etiquette in the sauna. Individuals enter wearing clothing and shoes, and some even bring electronic devices. Below is a comprehensive outline of appropriate sauna etiquette: To ensure a safe and respectful sauna experience, it is essential to prioritize hygiene (shower before entering and sit on a towel), To sweat on your own towels without all those synthetic clothes on is best. Respect personal space (refrain from staring or engaging in conversations, and avoid using electronics, which emit electromagnetic fields). It is important to minimize exposure to these fields for the sake of your well-being. The sauna is a space for detoxification and rejuvenation. Those who are more knowledgeable about these matters should not have to endure the electromagnetic interference from your phone or tablet. Please be considerate!

Whatever the customer service rep. says is final no matter how unlawful and unjust.
My trainer disappeared and nobody cares about my sessions left from my contract. By not telling the truth they forced me illegally to get another contract to use my sessions from the previous contract.

A very clean and immersive atmosphere. The water out of the drinking fountain is meh, 6/10. Due to the gym's overall popularity, the hot tub, basketball court and showers require frequent visits from cleaning staff who do a great job of maintaining the place. If the location had heavy bags in more than one room/location that would be ideal. Currently that space is shared with the yoga classes. That's not the worst for social interaction but it's extremely awkward and when the class is going I just assume my MMA/boxing workout is temporarily banned and find something else to do. All in, it's a great place to workout.

Hands-down, this is the best LA Fitness gym in the entire continent! They keep all equipments, clean and organized at all time. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Under no circumstances should you bring any valuables to this gym. I have had my locker broken into twice, with different locks each time. The first time I was fleeced out of $80 cash, the second time, they took all my credit and debit cards and proceeded to rack up a $3041 Apple bill.
The thing is, I got the notification on my phone from the fraudulent transaction about 45 minutes into my workout.
I wonder, is someone watching that I wouldn’t come back into the locker room? Or it was it the staff?
When I reported the case to the staff (for the second time), they simply said there’s nothing they can do as there’s no security cameras. To be fair, the first time this happened to me when I lost the $80, one of the staff members said point blank that other staff steal lots of stuff from paying members. I should have learned my lesson but at least the fraudulent alerts on my bank(s) worked.
The gym is a good one for working out, just don’t trust anyone there.

I called to cancel my membership in 2021. They have a record of this and it seemed the matter was settled. The monthly fee charged to a CC I don't use. I called in 2024 after noticing all the charges. They said they would cancel it over the phone immediately which was done. Then I called another number to get a credit for the past amounts. Their response was "we sent you an email on how to cancel and you did not follow it". I searched for emails that I see were not opened as the matter appeared to be completed via phone. They said oh we cannot cancel by phone. I said you literally just did this yesterday which is exactly what I did previously. I called to have the membership cancelled and they noted it would be done. Their claim is they just froze it as they want to make it hard for you to cancel which is an unfair business practice. So how is it that they cannot cancel via phone when they just did it? I said it is to discriminate against people who have a hard time coming to the club in person or unfair business practice not allowing people to cancel the same way one can sign up. Before you sign up with them remember, it is hard to cancel and if you are very busy like me you will get almost nothing back. Yes, I should pay more attention but they should also make it cancellable via phone as it clearly is possible. One the + side, the gym was in good condition and great staff at the local site.

The only thing I have a concern about is that the bike rack is located far away from the entrance and hidden to the side of the building. I have an e-bike and would like to park it there but with the temptation of the location of the back rack I can't help knowing it would be stolen. This LA FITNESS on Portola doesn’t get as busy as other ones, but goodness, this gym is hot… suffocatingly hot. It’s almost like working out in a mild to moderately heated sauna when this gym gets busy. I’ve been working out at different LA Fitness locations, and never had to step outside to prevent a potential asthma attack.

This gym has potential! It is one of the better facilities in the Irvine / Lake Forest area that is not overcrowded.

Opposed to other locations, this gym is more comfortable and appealing to a beginner like myself. Not many wanderers hanging around machines, you will definitely get a great 1-2 hour routine here. Sometimes it gets a little crowded and you are waiting for machines and sometimes some of the machines are out of order. Wish they would extend their kid club hours. My husband and I both workout on the weekends and since they are closed on Sundays we are having to take turns so someone can stay with our son.

I’ve been a member at Portola LAF for 10 years, and Matt, the current General Manager is the BEST they’ve ever had! His manner is fantastic, and he doesn’t sit behind a desk all day. He walks the floor every day, and is always talking to the members in a deep and meaningful way. I also like the way he treats his staff. He’s also a great listener. Matt, has turned a corporate gym atmosphere, into one that feels like an independent private owner type gym. He transformed it due to his great and caring personality towards each member. If Matt, ever leaves this location, it will be a sad day for all of us!

Great place, but some bum lives in a tent behind it- six foot tall and yells about service dogs, claimed we were stalking him for walking by and was filming our group. I walked into this gym to get a membership and was actually convinced to NOT get a membership strictly from the customer service. The girl at the front didn't look up from her phone when I walked in to speak with someone and the gentleman who was signing me up was so rude and dismissive that I got up and left. I have been a long time member and today when I visited the location at 29400 Portola Parkway I was completely harassed and insulted by the staff.

When I entered the facility for my workout today, I had mentioned to one of the personal trainers (Jake) that he should make sure that other person trainers are setting a good example and retaking weights. There have been several times the trainers don’t rerack their weights despite signs everywhere asking us to do so. Jake decided to have the other personal trainer, name unknown, shorter guy with plug earrings and always wears a beanie, about it and had him confront me during my workout. I do not appreciate the fact that I was confronted while squeezing In my workout for the day. When I told the “manager” about what was happening he didn’t really say anything and shrugged me off.

I continued my workout and could see that the 2 trainers and the managers were laughing about the situation. This is unacceptable. I, then, confronted Jake to ask him why he created a hostile situation from something that wasn’t that big of deal. He said well you were yelling. (I had my head phones in, I was not yelling). He then went on to state that he played college football and he is running a cleaning training through the gym. I disagreed given the hostility of the situation. He then made a comment after I disagreed and insulted me regarding my weight. This is outrageous. I have never had anything like this happen before and just wanted a manager to resolve the situation and at least talk to these guys.

The environment was so hostile I had to leave and I told the person at the front desk, nicely, that I couldn’t believe what just happened. I told him not to worry about telling anyone since I would never return to this gym.

I went out to leave the gym and that’s when the 2 personal trainers ran out after me telling me they were going to revoke my membership and making me very uncomfortable.

The equipment in club is good, my fiancé is happy about them. However, the administration has a culture of lying as disrespecting. They will lie to you when getting into contacts and later say you signed this and that and cause trouble for you to get the benefits you were promised verbally.

Got a membership and it was fine until I inquired about a personal trainer. Talked to the man and he told be I could try it out and see if I liked it. So decided I would do a month and see if I liked it and if it was worth it. Well it took a month before I actually got someone. One day the scheduled wrong and the next week the guy didn’t show up to work. A week later the trainer quit. So one month and no trainer. Well finally got a trainer and it wasn’t worth the $180 dollars for the month. To find out they put me in for a whole year and wouldn’t let me out because I had a couple training session and I signed it. It was my fault for not reading it and going of what the guy told me. I find out non of the people that I dealt with work there. Wonder how many people they did this to. This was in February 2020 and I canceled In April with 22 unused sessions they gave me. But they are still taking money out of my account. This place has bad people working for them and no one cares that that I was coned by the employee.

It's a decent place, but nothing to get excited about. Management is ridiculous. They allow pilates and HIIT classes- both of which people are in REALLY close proximity, but they don't allow racquetball. Also, why no water fountains? Don't put your lips all over and it should be fine.
