My sister goes to la fitness - not this location - but i was in town and needed a gym and decided to try it out. Most of the women at the front desk were dry and unwelcoming. The lady who they made me go see for my guest pass i already secured online charged me $20 bucks just because I am from a different state. I paid her cash, she did not offer me a receipt until I came back and asked her for one (i honestly think she pocketed it - just the vibe i get when you ask for money in a business and dont offer a receipt). To make a receipt she handwrote some messy bullshit like “paid - $20”. I wont go into detail about the class but for the most part it was good and I was content - not ideal (so much equipments that were not provided by the gym which made the experience less enjoyable but thanks to the positive energy of the instructor which made up for it).

The woman who was signing us up for a day pass made us use a machine to calculate our BMI and explain it to us like we were 5 years old. We told we that we have all of this information already and have machines at home that can do this for us, but she said that she was just "trying to build urgency". The urgency was unneeded since that was why we were at the gym, but I let her continue. She continued explaining that a high BMI was bad and a low BMI was good. Then she went onto an LA Fitness website to calculate a plan for us to lose weight if we continued exercising. I again told her that this was unneeded. This information is easily obtainable elsewhere, but she continued to press on. She kept berating us and at one point even tried to ask what our private medical conditions were. At that point, we got up and left. We were ready to sign up for a membership based on how nice the gym was assuming the trial went well, but now we'll never be using an LA Fitness ever. Within the hour after leaving, we signed up for 24 Hour Fitness down the street since they were extremely kind to us just days before.

My partner and I went in to apply for the three day free trial. We’ve been shopping around gyms trying to find one we liked specifically for pool usage, we went in and told the two behind the counter what we’d like to do and they said oh you have to wait for the sales associate who was helping another couple. That was fine she was the only one working it seemed and was busy so we waited, my partner had actually been really impressed with this place from the photos and was sorta already sold on it. So the sales associate (who’s name I don’t remember I think it was Ana but I could be very off, she never introduced herself the other two said her name) said do we have an appointment after what we told her we were interested in doing and we said no, and asked if we needed one. She said usually yes but let me see if I can see if you’re registered. Before we had gone there I had try to do this online and the website kept giving me an error message, and I explained that once she said yeah you have no registration. So she after a moment was like no worries let me just get you in to work out for the day, and took our IDs and our information, and as she’s filling things out she starts asking me what my weight is and if I know my BMI. I said I did, and she goes to get the machine, my partner at this point is like “this is kinda crazy” because it’s a lot of personal questions, which none of the other gyms we tried out ever asked us anything like this. She comes back has me do this machine, I’m well aware of how BMI works and what i’m at, to which my partner tried to explain that we don’t need all this and she basically said if you want to do the free pass you have to do this part. She then proceeds to tell me how my BMI is higher and that can be a problem so you have to start doing it now, it was very uncomfortable and was making me feel bad about myself which, if that’s how you sell people on gym memberships that’s insane, I tried to tell her hey I already know this information I’m actually on a medication so I have this all figured out for my own personal info. My mistake honestly telling her that because she immediately said “oh so you don’t want to lose weight the healthy way” which was insane to say to any one, she’s not my doctor she doesn’t even know me and for whatever stupid reason I tried to explain because I was so shocked and humiliated I told her I had a condition, to which she asked me”what condition” which again, is absolutely none of her business. At this point my partner who is completely fed up says no we’re done here grabs my ID and we leave. I’ve never been so humiliated and upset about how I’ve been treated about my own body even by a doctor before, and it’s baffling LAfitness has anybody who treats potential customers like that, how invasive and awful and disgusting that experience was. All we wanted to do was try the gym out and see if we liked it and if we did we were gonna sign up for memberships, and instead I was shamed and judged. It’s not hard to sign people up for a membership and if you want to push personal trainers on people there are 10000 other ways to bring it up then whatever that was. I can’t speak for all LA fitness’ but this one specifically if that’s how she talked to us I can’t imagine how the rest are trained. It was horrible and they need to learn to treat people with kindness.

Closing at 8PM on weekends is already super early, and on top of that, the staff rushes you out in the most uncomfortable way. I was putting my clothes on at 8:02 and got told to “hurry up” by the young lady at the front desk. Even though there were still other women in the locker room changing as well. It felt jarring and unnecessary, especially when she didn’t even acknowledge us as we walked out, just stayed on her phone. Felt like I was back in high school gym class.

Not at all will I ever go here . I was given a pass to work out and due to heavy work schedule with my school job spring break work out just fine . I came into this gym with my 12 year old son and the lady that was to help us gave no representation that we were welcome she kept trying to turn us away . She ask how old my son was I said 12 she said 13 is the age of youngest guest I responded that's fine is it in writing she shows me a contract that states that an child under 16 needs to be accompanied by a legal guardian and when she say that the contract justified she showed very low interest and even said my son can wait in the waiting room while I workout which is a child neglect.. very bias of her ...

This place is such a dump. From the old elliptical that has four channels on them that actually work to the holes in the stairwell, lights that blink like a European discotheque, machines that are down for weeks at a time.... It's clear the management doesn't care about this place or the patrons That pay to use this gym.

I use the PCH gym in Long Beach. There are worse gyms out there but this isn't worth the cost. There aren't enough accessories for the cable and rowing machines. Some of the ones they used to have are no longer around, like the triangle. Many people don't rack their weights after use or worse they put them back in the wrong place. I often have to look all over the gym to find free weights, ez bars, and cable attachments. Sometimes even on another floor. Even barbells are missing from some of the benches. I don't care for the layout, the weight training machines all face inward so I can't see outside while I'm working out, even though there are lots of windows. For the yearly and monthly fees, they don't provide towels to use while you're sweating all over the machines. There are only two places to get wipes on the whole weight lifting floor. When equipment breaks down it can take weeks to repair, like the lat pulldown machine and currently one of the water fountains.

Decent facility in a busy/working community.

Pros:
1. Three stories of all gym
2. A complete gym with pool, sauna, cardio, free weight, and a bonus running track around the free weights area

Cons:
1. Not the greatest of visual talents (if you know what I mean).
2. Equipment was older and needs refreshing (rusty and frictiony). Do this quick to retain customers.
3. Improve lighting in areas.

Hope this experience helps others looking for a new gym

Came here with the 3-free day pass that LA Fitness offers. The staff didn’t acknowledge it and asked to hold my ID while I checked out the facility for myself. When I came back from my workout, the staff had given my ID to the manager and ushered me to his office before I could leave. The manager (Jose) scolded me for doing a free trial and said I would be charged $20 if I tried to come again. He seemed to imply that I was trying to take advantage of the facility, when I was genuinely wanting to explore the gym before committing to a full membership. And for what it’s worth, the gym was in pretty bad condition. Not a great experience, hope it’s better for others.

I love this 3 story gym located on PCH. It has all of the equipment needed to get and stay fit including an indoor track. The men’s locker/shower areas are always clean and stocked. Mrs. Angeles and every staff member there are approachable if you have any questions, concerns or needs. The membership prices are hard to say no to and well worth it for everything that comes with it.

I’m a transgender man and I advise against all members of the LGBTQ+ go to this LA Fitness. It is not a welcoming place for members of the trans community. Ángeles Cardona was who I spoke to at the front, not only was she incredibly rude to me for no reason, Ángeles Cardona repeatedly called me a she even though I corrected her on my gender and name, and even asked me to leave the men’s restroom. Gyms should be a place where all people can feel safe to live healthy lifestyles. LA Fitness, consider talking to this staff member about the way she treats people. I asked a random member how they liked it and they told me black sludge came burbling up in the bottom of the sauna. That’s disgusting and I definitely would never go in their pool. To be treated like a criminal in a place where the cleanliness itself should be considered a crime. Shame

I give it two stars because I had a bad experience. Well, I would say that it is a problem of a person who works there. I will tell my experience, which I hope with my comment will improve the staff since one is a client and pays their membership and monthly subscription. In context, this person's name is Jazmín and that person who works there verbally attacked me when I was at the machine. As a result, Asia adopted an aggressive tone and told me that I couldn't spend too much time on the machines and that I should stop chatting with other people. to which I responded that who was she to tell me that and in that tone? Since the machines did not say how long a person could stay in them, she told me in her aggressive tone, she told me that she works there so I responded that then I was going to report her to the superiors and she just started mocking and laughing at me.

They have lots of treadmills and elliptical trainers. Plenty of machines and free weights. However the management could use some re training on customer service. If you need a specific question answered it’s a 50/50 chance an employee can answer it. Oh well- I guess you get what you pay for.

I’m excited to share my experience today and hopefully help lead the next person in the right direction. I’ll start by saying I don’t recommend LA FITNESS PCH nor Isaiah, one of their representatives. The infrastructure needs repairs and pest control. Isaiah was dismissive and wasted time. For those who don’t wish to read further here’s some alternatives, LA FITNESS Bellflower or my favorite ONE BODY STRENGTH & CONDITIONING 5 mins away, save your time folks!

Storytime... After starting a new membership with LA Fitness PCH (Angeles was helpful), I received a call from Isaiah who said he wanted to set an appointment to check my BMI and provide nutrition resources. I thought, "Wow, this sounds like a huge advantage, sure." He made arrangements to come in early at 8:30 a.m., even though his shift starts at 9 a.m. I arrived for the appointment at 8 a.m., and the receptionist recommended I check out the sauna, which had just received updates. I'm all about the sauna; it's the main reason I joined, so I was excited for the improvements to the wooden benches. This is where my experience takes a turn.

I won't dwell on the negativity, just state the facts. I went to the ladies' locker room and laid my bag down on the counter, and ladies, there was a roach on the counter, I kid you not (immediately clutched pearls). I thought to take a picture, but I decided to stay focused on positivity. I proceeded to the sauna, expecting to see updates, but there were no improvements as aforementioned. As a matter of fact, there were crickets and other tiny insects scurrying along the floor. It was absolutely disgusting.

As it got closer to my appointment, I went to wait in the lobby for Isaiah. I waited for maybe 10 minutes, and Isaiah arrived. He was welcoming and started by asking me about my day. I mentioned that I had just finished a workout with my trainer (One Body Strength & Conditioning), and he said, "Oh, you already have a trainer?" It was at this point that I realized our meeting was a consultation for him to train me. He proceeded to weigh me and asked about how I felt about my weight. I told him it could be improved. He then asked my age, and when I said "I don't do age,"(I wasn't rude its a personal quirk) he looked at me awkwardly and said that defeats the purpose and there's no need to move forward. He politely shook my hand, and I was left shocked.

I shook his hand and turned to walk out. My thoughts were that I arrived early with the expectation to discuss nutrition, and after just 5 minutes, he said he couldn't help me because I wasn't comfortable providing my age. He didn't even attempt to explain why age was an important factor; he just dismissed me.

I'm seriously tempted to dismiss LA FITNESS altogether and cancel my membership. Fortunately, there are neighboring gyms that provide better service. I try not to say never, but I honestly don't see myself returning to the PCH Gym, and therefore, I do not recommend it. It's worth noting that the receptionists are not as welcoming as you may experience at the Bellflower location as well.

In the event I do decide to return, I will take pictures and update this review. Until then, don't waste your time, people. We go to the gym to improve and get better; we can't be affected by the poor mindsets of others and poor-quality surroundings. Instead, consider trying One Body Strength & Conditioning; it's worth every penny.

I am open to being reached out to, if LA FITNESS-PCH leadership wants to connect.

they give out free passes and then demand money for them, the staff is complete. I didn’t mind the $30 (for one trial workout, as the manager said) I first went to fitness 24 where I got a trial workout and looked at the conditions. There are just unpleasant people, a non-working sauna which is supposedly regulated by the administration, the pool is not particularly pleasant to swim in, there are no tiles on the floors in the showers and there are some kind of boards lying around, there is mold in the showers. In general, this place turned out to be even worse than Fitness 24, according to the pictures the place is top but in reality I don’t want to go back , the client is wrong here

I believe this facility needs a better management to address important issues. Members rarely re-rack their weights and no reminders are posted on the walls or communicated over loud speakers.
The music system is horrible and it has been neglected for long time despite several reminders. Ongoing static (sound like a thunder storm), volume level goes up & down, interruptions and sometimes you hear a talk show going on. I asked what’s the issue with the sound system; I was told they have no control over it – don’t understand why management can’t look into fixing this issue.
Additionally, they allow members to bring their own personal portable music player and blast the sound volume which is not only annoying and disturbing to other people but also conflicting with Gym lousy music that is barely working.

Gym is good. Patrons are the problem. Many occupy one machine forever resting on it between exercises, playing with their phones. Perhaps it's like this in every gym. In the old days people would get off the machine to rest and let others have a series of exercises before returning to it.

I was there this morning and I didn’t have my log in information so I went to the check in counter to see if the young Asian woman working at 11am on 02/5/24 can manually check me in so I could work out before going to work . She had me waiting about 19 minutes while she was on a cell phone call and as I waited patiently I thought to myself maybe she’s trying to sign someone up for a membership . No, the longer I stayed I realized she received a call back from another job she had applied for and she stated she’s not sure if she can accept the job offer she’d have to think about it. Now I’m headed to work late an have anxiety due to me not being able to clear my head with a workout before going into work . Not sure if I will return or continue my membership with LA fitness

Some months ago I'd gave 5 stars to this place, it was one pf the bests I've been in the city, but nowadays, it seems the more people they have, the less care they give. Some of the services have been close for weeks like the cold plunge or the Jacuzzi, you find roaches in the bathroom and even the music (which is the minimum in a gym) they tur it off... it feels like an old church just with the echoes of those who scream time to time as part as their training workouts.

I don't even know if someone in charge will be reading this but, it is sad that every day you're loosing the quality.

I hope some day I can return in here and give the 5 stars you deserved some months ago, but not now

This has been my go-to gym since February, and my experience has been good for the most part. I don't live near anymore, but I still like coming here once or twice a week for cardio and conditioning. My gym on Addison in Chicago was objectively a better gym, and I think that the following can be addressed to improve the experience of all members:

- The men's showers could be cleaned more thoroughly and more often. I'm often finding hairs in the drains. It's not great, but it's more or less tolerable when I take the monthly membership cost into account (along with perks, like nationwide access).
- Soap dispensers could be placed where they're missing, and filled in all shower stalls. It's a relatively simple fix.
- Paper towel dispensers could be placed on the third floor of the gym, along with sanitizer dispensers. This helps with cleaning the machines after use, and it helps foster a more sanitary environment. Both the Foster and Addison location (in Chicago) are great about this.
- The men's bathroom has had an out of order water faucet for months now, and a few of the other water faucets may have faulty sensors. It might be time to do some TLC/renovations.

At least the staff's nice, so I can't fault the gym too much. I've never felt unsafe in the gym or the parking structure either, so that's a huge pro.

There's room for improvement, but it does the job.

The sauna is never hot, the cold plunge has never worked since being a member 2 months ago. They clean the gym while you are working out so the dusty vacuum air is what your breathing in as you work out. Still giving 3 star because the workout equipment is some what maintained, and workout areas are clean.

DO NOT sign a personal training contract at all unless you are willing to commit to roughly a year. I was under the impression it is a month-to-month but come to find out it is not. I signed the contract under the described impression and got incredibly sick, so I called to cancel it. They continued to charge me for months. They will make you drive to the gym, say they can’t do anything and you have to call corporate.
Corporate will also say they can’t do anything and offer to buy out half your year contract, which I did not know was a year contract for a service I never used.

After how all this was handled the only thing I feel is SCAMMED. This will be the one and only time I ever do business with LA fitness.

When I sign for the membership on 2019 I been told that I can bring up to 2 people with as long as they came at the same time with me, and it was like that up to today when a rude front desk Girl didn’t let my second guest go in, I asked what was charged since no one said anything to me in the last 4 years i been using the membership. she did not give me a clear answer plus unprofessional attitude I got kind of upset and I asked her if I want to cancel my membership how many days I have less to use the gym but she keeps given me vagues answers then I left I assumed that she noted the account because 7 hours later I got a call from the Manager named JOCELINE she wasn’t rude or disrespectful but she was enforcing me to cancel my membership in the spot without considering the 4 years I been as a loyal customer, no even willing to clarify my doubts and explain the changes if it was made or the misunderstood about my membership when I signed up. Totally Unpleasant experience

This is my favorite LB LA Fitness - for the sauna! It's an extra large sauna (at least for the women's) probably double the size of the typical gym sauna, which is not only more comfortable space-wise, but I also find the heat to be more comfortable too. Only drawback is lack of cell phone service in the sauna.
Plenty of cardio machines- never had a problem finding one open.

It was pretty cool, they have a pool, a saua room, and the weight machines did their purpose. I give it a 3 instead of a 4 because the showers kinda suck, the soap they used was cheap and made me itchy, bring your own bodywash and shampoo. Everything was decent buy not amazing and i would have preffered their be more equipment, most of them came in two's so waiting to use one would take a bit. There were plenty of bench presses, they didn't really have assisted lifting equipment for beginniers, ilaside from the pull up machines. If your not a beginner and dont care about soap this is actually the perfect gym for intermediate lifters.

Childcare now closed - Well this was a promising gym for me. But was told they closed the childcare due corporate deciding it being “unprofitable”, so that means the others will probably close theirs soon too. Sucks cause I signed up for this gym specifically because of the childcare and location, then 3 weeks later find out they are closing the childcare facility. And this specific one was awesome. Small area for them but the care was phenomenal, and I had felt very comfortable leaving my 3mo with them. Sadly now have to cancel membership because of it and wait till my kid is a year to go to ymca because none of the other gyms offer childcare. Long Beach really does not seem family friendly so far.

Very nice gym. They have a parking building(maybe 5 floors), gym was clean, there were people inside, motivational music which is extremely important when you are in the gym.
There were 3 leves:
-1st dress rooms, swimming pool and sauna.
-on second floor they have weight section and a run loop around the gym with nice views which I have to admit is 🔥
-3rd floor is like a cardio section
I didn’t see any broken equipment, so can’t complain

Plenty of gym equipment bad thing is the bathroom never has any hand towels. And the dark Hispanic guy with the fake jewlery that cleans the bathrooms at night has a bad attitude gives a bad vibe when clearly we are at the gym for a positive vibe you can see it in his face that he hates his job. Place has plenty of parking and many different machines but that cleaning guy closes the bathroom early and he's just there on his phone chilling then no one can wash their hands or use the restroom before closing time.

Honestly, I haven't had any complaints before. I've been a member since 2003 which is 19 years, and I don't use the gym that often. I pay $42 a month which allows me to bring in 2 guests anytime. I've been paying that amount for 19 years. I went in today and had a really good workout and decided to talk to the staff about possibly reducing my monthly contribution, based on the fact that they have a "special" now for $34, which gives you the ability to bring in 2 of your own guests. I spoke to Lawrence at the front desk who then referred me to the gym "Manager" Brian. As I approached Bryan's desk he was very busy, staring at his cell phone, so busy that he never bothered to greet me with his eyes or even say hello how are you" my name is Brian. He then started looking at my account and surmised that it would be best if I just kept paying the $42 a month. You'd think he would recognize a valued customer when one is standing directly in front of him, but unfortunately I was taking away his "stare at my phone time" ,apparently LA Fitness pays their managers to sit around and get paid! When I told him that I'd just close my account, this guy didn't flinch and told me that Lawrence could help me with that! No suggestions as to keep a valued customer at all. So, of course I closed my account after almost 20 years as a LAF member!
