I have been a member of LA fitness fir around 3 years and I have use several facilities like Pico Rivera, Downey, East Pasadena, Hollywood etc. In the swimming pool area there is not any sign wich indicate the people that they Must to take a shower before entering the swimming pool and spa. It is disgusting how people sweting from the gym area or from the street come and get into the pool and spa without getting a shower. Only one wight in the front so the member can’t have acces to know a real weight because we have to step on wearing clothes. Normally other LA fitness they have one weight in the locker room. The locker room and sauna looks dirty. The floors look so old and no mainteined.

I’ve been to several LA Fitness locations in the East LA area, including Alhambra, both Pasadena locations, Montebello, Baldwin Park, and West Covina. Unfortunately, the Monterey Park location has been the most disappointing in terms of equipment availability and overall gym upkeep.

The biggest ongoing issue is the lack of necessary equipment, particularly dumbbells. At almost any time of day, about 50-75% of the dumbbell rack is empty. Many are either missing or left scattered throughout the gym, and it doesn’t seem like staff make a consistent effort to return them to their proper place. Unfortunately, this habit also extends to some members, which only adds to the frustration.

Barbells are also in short supply. Between the squat racks, bench press stations, and shoulder press setups, the location is generally short by about 3–4 barbells. Some members also take barbells to other areas (for example, to do deadlifts), which further reduces availability.

I live just down the street, so I’ve been a member here for years. While convenience is a plus, the experience is often frustrating enough that I sometimes drive 20–30 minutes to Pasadena or Arcadia, where equipment availability and organization are noticeably better.

I hope management addresses these issues, as this location has the potential to be much better with some consistent upkeep and organization

Easily the worst gym in the area—and I’ve been to plenty.

From the moment you walk in, it’s clear this place is neglected. Water leaks from the ceiling directly onto the machines, creating safety hazards and making the place feel rundown and unsanitary. Much of the equipment is old, broken, or in such poor condition that it’s almost unusable. It’s clear management doesn’t invest in upkeep or care about providing a quality experience.

The front desk staff are another major issue. Customer service is non-existent. Most of the time, they’re glued to their phones, barely acknowledging you when you walk in. If you ask a question or need help, they act like you’re interrupting them. Checking in feels like you’re inconveniencing them, which is ridiculous considering you’re the paying customer.

The overall atmosphere is unwelcoming and apathetic. The combination of poor maintenance, outdated equipment, and disinterested staff makes this gym a complete disappointment. The only reason I still come here is because it’s close to my home, if I had any better option nearby, I’d switch in a heartbeat.

Bottom line: Unsafe conditions, terrible customer service, and an overall lack of pride in the facility. Avoid this place if you can.

Maybe the etiquette is different in different states but no one re-racks weights and there’s no gym workers were fixing or picking them up. In Texas everyone re-racks any weights they use and wipe machines after every use. Maybe through more conversation with its members you can shift the culture. But, here and the Montebello location no one cares. The dumbbells are all over the place and no attempt to keep them in order as well as the plates.

Worst LA fitness I've been.

7 benches, 1 shoulder station, 2 half racks and 1 power rack

But there's only 6 bars.

Why is there only 6 bars for 11 barbell stations?

I went upstairs to check out the pilates room, personal training area but still only 6 barbells to 11 stations.

Let me tell ya about this place. First they deserve 0 star for being incompetent. First time when you sign up they called you to give a free personal training senssion by the MANAGER, who is a big scammer. He gave the first session which was good, so he brain washed you to sign up for a plan which costed me a lot a lot of money more than $3000. Then he said you will have this person as your personal trainer "he is pretty good, he is also a physical therapist". On the day of you class the trainer cancelled on you so they gave another personal trainer who is a beginner. Bad senssion and not even 30 minutes. They would last for less then 20 minutes. So I would make appointment and they would cancel on me. So all my hours were wasted. They don't refund your money even if you ask to cancel. They even over charged me for 3 months because they said I didn't cancel but I talked to that MANAGER, he knew I wasn't happy and I stopped the plan. So I tried to called the line to talk to the MANAGER. And he wouldn't be available ever. Even if you go there to meet. I called to make an appointment with that MANAGER and they told me he was gonna be available during week days around 3:30 pm. I skipped work to go there to try talk to him about the over charged and guess? He wasn't there. Someone at the front door who was little rude told me he is gonna be there around 4:30 pm. So everyone there keep lying and saying different this. To stop the over charge they didn't fix the issue I actually stopped the payment and requested the refund from my bank that is how I got refunded. The only thing I could say about this place is Scammers! Don't go fool yourself with these liers.

The gym equines is cool, but the bathrooms are gross. They need a deep cleaning and the pool area is horrible. I go for a swim. Do not recommend this gym at all. I have been to a lot of la fitnesses but the bathrooms here are old and not taken care of. They have lime stains on the bathrooms. The people that use the pool with be 4-6 people in the lane and the management does nothing about it. They only have one lane line in for lap swimming. People swim on top of you; I had to push people off of me 2x.

Please don't come here. I wanted to give this place a try, I went in and talked to a representative named Luis. He gave me a tour, and was very insistent that I sign up now and would not activate my 3 Day pass. He told me to work out first and that in the end he would activate it. My job has a partnership with this gym for a corporate discount and I told him I wanted to utilize that discount and try the three day trial before spending my money and he kept insisting to sign up now. I worked out and walked out. Since then, luis keeps calling twice a week sometimes past 7pm it's ridiculous. It's been well over a month and the harassment continues.

Got here at 10:45 on Thursday night. I just needed to is the locker room for 5 minutes. I couldn’t go in because side the doors were locked and no one was at the front desk. I had to wait for another member to open the door. When I came out of the locker room, I spoke to the person that was now standing at the front desk and told her that it wasn’t cool to lock the doors 15 minutes early. The restrooms are never stocked or clean, I've gone early when they open and there's always paper on the floor, toilet seats are dirty and there's never any toilet seat liners, soap or paper towels. They should have the restrooms cleaned and ready for the next day. They should have staff constantly cleaning and stocking them. I've brought this up to the gym manager Sonia and other staff numerous times but it doesn't seem to be a cause for concern.
Weights are always left on the floor scattered. They need to replace and fix/service many machines and things in the women's restroom.

I've already informed staff and manager about having restrooms clean and stocked before they close so they don't have this issue but they don't seem to be getting the point across the cleaning staff. I've also mentioned a few machines need attention especially the treadmills. Half of them don't work and the other half aren't fully functional.
Super disappointing and annoying tbh, my husband and I are ready to go to a different gym.

My electric scooter was stolen right in front of the entrance today. I had it chained to the bike pole someone came with bolt cutters, they cut my chain and stole my scooter. I recently got my membership, I got my assessment with kenal, he wanted me to do some exercises that hurt me. I requested him several times to show me how to use the machines and he barely showed me one, I still going around not knowing how to use most of the machines. I had to ask other members fije to use the machine and weights. I went to this location on 3/22/24 ( fri ) appx. 8pm. They have punching bags on the 2nd floor room with the mirrors.

There was a man 1) yelling excessively loud while hitting the punching bags 2) using up appx. 1/2 of the room shadow boxing while there were appx. 11 members using the room 3) getting way too close to other members not respecting their personal space.

Description of LA Fitness member:
Appx. 6 ft/ male/ 165 pounds / tan skin possibly mixed race
( black ) / burgendy shorts/ white tank top. Around 9pm he was observed chatting with the male employee at the front desk for appx. 15 minutes.

I would not recommend any economy gym with punching bags. It tends to attract certain elements. There's a reason why many gyms have removed punching bags from their location.

If you can afford to go to a more expensive gym, I would say go for it. You get what you pay for. More expensive gyms tend to have more college graduates, professionals, and people with pedigree and class.

If you can only afford LA Fitness, anything is better than nothing. But hopefully going to this location motivates you to be more successful in life.

Good luck finding the weights you need. Free weight racks are almost always half empty. Most likely has to do with the inconsiderate members that don’t put their stuff back. Either way we shouldn’t have to spend 25% of our time looking for weights. Get used to settling for dumbbells that are either too light or too heavy, especially if you need a pair of them between 15-25 lbs. Waiting for a machine, squat rack, or bench to open is normal at any gym but once you get to one here you’ll have to scavenge around for all your weights.

There are two sets of mats that are not for personal training. One is upstairs and always full and the other is downstairs in a very awkward corner. Fine for stretching but sucks for any real exercise.

Only giving it two stars because the staff says hello and goodbye, but mostly for the custodians walking around picking up trash from the members that couldn’t care less about other people.

Seems pretty big and spacious, being 2 stories and all, but apparently the free weight area is crowded from open til close. There's no beating the crowd, you'll have to spar and beat your chest for a barbell. Aside from that major inconvenience, the second floor is nice and open with cardio machinery and handball/racquet ball courts.

The ADA accommodations are terrible here. The wheelchair accessible shower has water spouting out from a hole midwall and the shower head. Although there is a handheld shower head, it's unusable and just sits on the floor. The locker room has broken or unusable locker doors as well. However, the staff is always kind and courteous. They always provide greetings and farewells when arriving or leaving and are eager to help when they can.

Not enough cleaning products .. wipes or paper towels are always out .. crowded all the time . Training staff ingrid was very rude to me / edwin was not that helpful . Would not recommend this gym especially for what they charge .

3 day Guest pass = 1 day based on manager in front desk. Not worth trying it out when pressured when the writing is clear on paper. Then the guy didn’t even want to give me my ID back. All the calling and texting they did in the last 24 hours. Not worth it. So annoying. I used to be a member at this location for 5 years. Never going back

It seems 8/10 times I go to work out they don't have cleaning products or paper towels to wipe down equipment after use which is pretty frustrating and unsanitary.

Well there is always a first, so I am a LA fitness member, my membership has a guest allowance plus I have personal training services, my husband is also a member with the same services as me. So I enter the gym with my brother and they make him sign an agreement wich is fine , they have never asked me to but it's not a big deal. So I go back and forth to my car to put my sweat suit away and the manager come after me through the gym and tell me that I can only have 1 guest a day so he assumed that my husband and my brother are my guest instead of asking each for membership proof and then get to conclusions after he realized that he made a mistake he walked away but my whole mood was already bad , I am mad , I don't wanna workout no more the gym suppose to be to release stress not be harassed through the whole gym , I guess is because I am Latina idk

The two stars are only for the facility. The staff is nice and facility is pretty clean as far as LA Fitness goes. The patrons need gym etiquette courses...I randomly came thru one night ...every guy in the free weights section was hogging up multiple items at the same time. One guy using three sets of dumbells at the same time...or two sets of dumbells and a barbell, or a machine and two sets of dumbells. It was pretty ridiculous. The irony was none of them even had impressive physiques to show for it.

My car was broken into at the parking lot. I was here on 9/19 between 8.30pm to 10pm. After workout, I find my combination lock stolen and car key missing. I find my car unlocked with the car key on the driver seat. Nothing is stolen but I'm getting my car checked tomorrow. According to the LA fitness staff, another person is not so lucky and the car's window was shattered around 6/7pm. Around 9.30pm, another person also experienced same thing as me.

You have to take risks to go to this gym.

Terribly crowded, the weights and benches are always occupied and you would be lucky to get the equipment you need.

The toilet area smells so so bad, you will puke there.

I have never in my life seen a gym that doesn’t provide materials to disinfect their machines. They offered hand sanitizer as if people aren’t sweating all over the machine. Plus the hand sanitizer dispenser didn’t even work. The place is disgusting

Place is beyond dirty, Packed, and sauna is always broken. The Staff has attitudes if approached, and the demographic surrounding the area make this place worse.
