Unfortunately, my experience at LA Fitness was extremely disappointing — especially because of a manager named Luis. From the very beginning, his attitude was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Instead of helping or addressing concerns, he acted as if customers were a problem to deal with rather than people who deserve respect.
The overall atmosphere under his management feels negative and stressful. It’s very clear that customer service and professionalism are not a priority here. I’ve been to other LA Fitness locations where staff are polite, respectful, and supportive — but this one, sadly, is the opposite.
I would never recommend this branch to anyone as long as it’s managed by Luis. Management makes all the difference, and unfortunately, this location reflects very poor leadership.

Aug 29: After speaking with Misty again this week, I want to express my appreciation for her helpfulness, responsiveness, and genuine concern. She took the time to walk me through safety concerns, highlighting which areas are covered by security cameras, and made sure I felt supported. That level of customer service deserves recognition.
Thanks to Misty and the staff for helping me gain clarity and feel safer. I'm continuing to use the gym, and I’ve started parking in a more discreet spot, which already feels like a better choice. I appreciate the follow-up and ongoing professionalism. Hopefully, the tire issues were just bad luck.

Aug 22: I really enjoy this gym, the facility is clean, the staff is friendly, and it’s been a great place to work out.
That said, I’ve had four separate incidents of nails puncturing my tires after parking here, most recently today, August 22, with previous issues in March and again this past Sunday. Each time, I parked in or near the same area and discovered the damage immediately.
I spoke with Misty and Alex, who were both helpful and said they’d try to review the security footage. I’ve also filed a police report. Whether it’s a recurring hazard or something more intentional, it’s unacceptable.

Barbells never I’m the right place, just 2 individual restrooms, no sanitizer or cleaning towels to sanitize the equipment (they have an area where these should go but most of the time they just don’t have anything there) I honestly just like it when is not crowded the equipment is good

I don’t generally go to this side of town, but Aimee subbed at the location closest to my home-I loved how she instructed her yoga class, I ended up coming to this location for her Saturday class. She’s awesome, her class was awesome. I felt calm yet, energized after spending an hour with her. This location is also fairly new, everything was clean and parking was easy.

I just moved here within the last 7 days and was excited to find a new gym. They wouldn’t let me use their facilities because I couldn’t furnish a California ID. (I’m from out of state) Wouldn’t consider going back in the future based off this one experience. Staff was not helpful. Probably ended up saving my money.

Today, I visited LA Fitness in Northridge with a one-day guest pass that was issued and I received via email. Unfortunately, the pass was not accepted at the front desk because I mentioned I had used their Beverly Hills branch eight years ago. I found this extremely disappointing, especially since I wanted to compare both locations. To make matters worse, the gentleman at the front desk was rude and unprofessional, which made the experience even more frustrating. I hope LA Fitness reconsiders this policy and provides better customer service to guests in the future.

The most awful experience I’ve had in a gym. The weights are thrown all over the place, like how kids play at home. I brought this issue to the management, but the only excuse they give is that they are “implementing it.” It doesn’t take an eternity to announce that members should return the weights to their proper place. Half of my workout is picking the thrown weights . They seem to be a little unbothered — unbothered, I guess, until it starts affecting their business. Try to improve when members raise issues, rather than remaining stagnant and pathetic. Will be adding the pictures next time if they don’t rectify their mistakes

The staff is so rude here. Extremely unprofessional. Does not care about the happiness and satisfaction of the paying customers. I’ve Been working out here for about a year, my husband and I were told that we could use the personal training room whenever we wanted when we first signed up, it was a huge part of my workout until we were told not to go in there recently literally after months of using it. I asked if I could use the sled because that’s my workout routine and it’s rehabilitation for my knees. Sean tall black guy said “no” then walked to his desk. He said “that equipment does not belong to the gym and I can’t use it.” They also said that the room had been off limits the whole time. I asked if I could speak with a manager because Sean didn’t seem to care at all he was so rude he went back to his desk he clearly doesn’t have any good people skills. I guess that’s why he works in a gym. Then we spoke to Luis Orizio so so rude and ghetto is the only way to describe how he was acting with such attitude. My husband said we have been using that room for months, and he just kept repeating “that room is off limits! It’s always been off limits!” Seriously unbelievable how these people treat PAYING CUSTOMERS! these people should not be running this gym !! I asked to cancel my membership and he was like ok you need to call the number! Didn’t care at all that we were upset and disappointed! RUDE RUDE RUDE! No customer service skills whatsoever!

The gym for the most part is nice since it's newer. However, the area by the mirrors closer to the basketball courts is always a mess with free weights all over the floor. Equipment is not returned where it should be and staff doesn't walk around ensuring that it's placed back where it belongs. I also find the staff to be young and deflecting issues with membership. I have an issue currently that I have to take with the BBB since they aren't able to change my name in their system. I've spoken to Misty, Monique, and Sean and have emailed their corporate office with no resolution to my matter. They want me to call their member services dept and take not initiative to assist a customer. I asked Sean to personally escalate my issue and call me back. He didn't have the courtesy to call me, instead, he had Misty call me and attempt to give me their member services dept. after I asked him to attempt to troubleshoot the issue. This was 10 minutes after I asked. None of them are Management material.

I researched all the gyms in my area for the package that best suited my needs and ended up choosing LAF Northridge. This specific location is close to my work and home and on the website they offered (additional fee) towel service which was the deciding factor, I paid the dues and the additional and was on my way . I checked in and asks the attendant for towels and she said “we don’t have towels” I tried to get further info from her but she just looked past me and said next …. I cancelled my membership… I don’t understand the need for companies to be deceptive and misleading , it’s insulting and aggravating ! Towels were the issue but not the problem! I can deal with issues, I do not want to deal with problems!

I have been working with my personal trainer Umair for a few years now. It has been life changing! Not only is does he show you great form, he pushes you to become better, he’s patient, he understands your needs, and he gives you results! I can honestly say he is the best. Best of all, unlike other trainers, he is reliable. 100% recommended!

I am extremely disappointed with LA Fitness. I signed my 15 year old son up on a paid in full membership and I was told that if I cancel, I will receive a prorated refund. When my son went to cancel a couple weeks ago, they told him there is no refund and his membership would just not renew. My son is the one who emailed them to cancel since it is his account but he CC’ed me and told them I was CC’ed since he is underage and it is my credit card. Instead of replying back with me on the email, the manager Gatsby decided to email my son back and ask if he would prefer to freeze the account instead for an extra charge. He was trying to save the membership by getting an underage child to agree to paying for a fee that he is not allowed to authorize. When I brought it to the attention of corporate, they did not seem to care. At this point I was demanding that I receive a refund. I told them I can provide relocation proof or a doctor’s note depending on what they need for proof to get a refund. I have worked in the fitness industry for over 10 years and I know how it works. They owe me a refund and they owe me an apology for having a manager try to swindle an underage kid just to save a membership. Do better LA Fitness.

They will hold your driver license when you get a 3 day pass to force you to talk to them. Then they will keep contacting you to make you join. I wouldn’t do it if you can afford a better gym or just make one at home. I go to equinox so it’s expensive but the service is better. If your just trying to work out go with them and if your paying for better service to work out then it’s better just to spend the money

I go regularly to the LA Fitness close to my house. Just a thought they should put up signage that says put your cell phone away on the machines that there are only one each. I see too many people looking at their phones and not using the machine that they are sitting on. I know there is a 30 minute limit on the machines but these people just sit and look at their phones. Something needs to be done about this. I come to work out not wait around to wait for an open machine.

I’ve been coming to this gym for a year already, at the beginning I thought I was just new in the workout community, but then throughout the time I’ve been coming. The community at this gym is very toxic and very disrespectful to other members. If you are planning on getting a gym membership you’re better asking a for a week trial so you can see if that’s the type of environment you are looking for. Try different gyms first.

I am new to this location and I can say it is one of the better gym experiences I have had. To begin, the kids club is very good. Staff is super nice with the kids and always reach out to you if there is an issue with your child. The size of the kids club is smaller than the woodland hills location but the staff more than make up for it. Very attentive and caring with the kids. The gym itself is great. Very clean. You always see staff cleaning machines, floors and everything in between. The crowd at the gym is a nice mix of everything; younger to older. Bathrooms and locker areas are also very well maintained. The only issue you might run into here is finding parking. But overall a great place.

I came at night to get some steps in for the day. I don't usually go to a gym. My nephew took me with him as his guest. I had a chance to hit the treadmill and the bike. A great time getting my exercise in.
It was also nice to see that evryone was wiping down their equipment once they were finished using it. That certainly gave me peace of mind that people still are vigilant about covid precautions.

Went to this facility with an Active & Fit membership. They have an error in their system and charged my teenage son $20 to go in. 1st thing we have a membership for active & fit and it’s current and paid for. LA fitness cannot charge them for them just to go in…this is illegal and fraudulent. We called active and fit and they said this is wrong. For people who doesn’t know what Active and fit is this is a membership from your insurance carrier or workplace that gives you the power to go to 28000 gym facilities with 1 monthly membership. But what LA fitness did is fraudulent. They should have give the teenager a guest pass because he showed his active and fit membership and printed out the barcode. But instead coerced a naïve teenager to pay. Do you think this is the right thing to do? You’ll be the judge.

When I first came to sign up everybody were so nice and pleasant, and I asked the agent if I can cancel in 1 month right there on location because I'm only there for 1 month, and the agent said "yes, you can cancel on location anytime". I was happy. 1 month later, I came in, and Brandon was at the front desk, I asked to cancel and as soon as he heard the word cancel he became very unpolite and with a major attitude, and he said "you can't cancel here, you need to send an email", when I insisted I was told I could cancel on location he just ignored me, so I went to find the manager Carlos and told him Brendon has an attitude and isn't pleasant when I asked to cancel, and Carlos too, right after I said "cancel" begain to tell me off and aggressively telling me about sending an email, and when I told Carlos "can't you be nice? Don't you know how to give a good customer service even if you can't cancel just be nice about it", Carlos replied: "This is how we do it here". If you like to be treated nicely and pleasantly just don't go to LA FITNESS and don't go to this branch in particular.

What I like about this LA Fitness is that it has a vast variety of equipment, but in terms of positivity, that is about it. What I dislike about this LA Fitness is the incredibly rude employees, every single one of them have some sort of attitude issue, and another problem that I have with this LA Fitness is that the pool’s heater can randomly turn off. To cancel the subscription you can only from Monday to Friday and at a certain time. As if it was very difficult. This gym is always absurdly full and you can't train if everything is always busy

This is my preferred location. We like that the pool is less chlorinated (it's salty) than the Northridge branch on Devonshire.

Visits here recently have not been ideal. Front desk guy was unsmiling, very dismissive, unhelpful and outright rude. The incident that happened to me I thought might have been a one-off, just a bad day. But it happened again: someone in my household wanted to activate their 7-day complimemtary guest pass (which they had been getting phone calls to remind and encourage them to use). The 2 persons at the front desk (including said guy from previous unpleasant experience), wanted a physical complimentary pass presented. My housemate had not been given a physical pass when they were first invited. They had been called directly by a gym staff member. They were giving my housemate a hard time for wanting to try their complimentary free guest pass. My housemate decided to just leave. Come to find out, I easily found a complimentary guest pass on the LA Fitness website. How do these front desk people not know this? Why didn't they offer my housemate a physical pass? Why didn't they encourage my housemate to sign up online there and then to avail of the online offer? Isn't the purpose of these comp passes to encourage people to use the facility and to eventually sign up for a membership?
When I started in customer service years ago (circa 2009), I greeted customers with a smile, ready to help with what they needed. These LA Fitness front desk "greeters" don't even crack a smile. Is good customer service not a thing anymore?

The facility looks brand new from the outside. But once I started my workout I was not able to find any equipment I wanted from dumbbells, handles, overall service was horrible. It's very unfortunate for such a new facility. The personell looked to be lackadaisical.

It is what you expect from an L.A. Fitness. It is clean, well staffed with friendly people, loads of equipment, and many other amenities. I love the place. I visit my son, his wife, and my granddaughter several times a year from Pittsburgh and it provides a first class option for me.

Honestly one of the worst, if not the worst gym I’ve ever worked out in. There’s not enough barbells and maybe only 1/3 of the dumbbells are available and the rest are just missing?
Seriously, unless you’re just using the gym for cardio, go somewhere else.

Lots of bench for free weights. 3 squa tracks. 4 Smith machine's. Broken machines here and there (flies, back row,) free parking at least. Above average on cleanliness. There's a guy that does a awesome job on the afternoon shift during the weekdays. Wipes and cleans mirror and bathrooms

Very clean gym, from the workout areas to the bathrooms, you can tell they care about cleanliness. Love the natural lighting, it’s something other locations lack. I like how they have the AC on blast too. Good variety of machines. One thing keeping me from posting 5 stars is the lack of dumbbells. Where’d they all go? It’s like a treasure hunt trying to find a pair. They’re scattered. Not only that but half their barbells are missing from the benches. Needs better free weight management.

My friends personal stuff were stolen from the lockers. They had a lock and someone broke through it.
UPDATE: My friends were able to find their belongings in another locker. They were not the only ones who were targeted. Multiple lockers were broken into and stuffed to different lockers. Cash was taken out from their wallets.
There’s also a time where a guy went through the woman’s locker room and no one bothered to apprehended the guy even though it was reported to the staff.
Nothing was able to be done because a manager was not present.

A friend invited me to LA Fitness on Balboa Boulevard in Northridge. I asked for a guest pass since I didn’t have a membership then, but I thought of joining. The woman at the front counter “rudely informed me guest passes were twenty dollars.😱Please don’t waste your time asking for a pass, not even to check out the gym. Passes ARE NOT FREE at this gym.👎👎👎
My friend and I decided to take the drive to LA Fitness on Devonshire Street in Northridge. I’m so glad we did. Maria at the front counter helped us out and gave us FREE Guest passes!😁

The free weights are in worse disarray than any gym I have ever been to in my entire 10 years of bodybuilding. It's shocking how little the staff and to a lesser extent the members care. Go elsewhere if you can, not worth the money if you like to use dumbbells.
