my wife signed up for the glute room and took her first class today at 10:30 am. She told me the instructor looked gluteless (clueless) and went through everything very fast and felt like she can have a better work out on her own because the instructors don't know what they're doing. LA Fitness needs to do a better job in hiring better qualified and well trained instructors. Apart from the class, the front desk staff is super rude. All they do is sit on their phones all day, never greet or check in on guests properly.

Embarrassing and Unprofessional – Guest Pass Completely Useless

I’m an active LA Fitness member, and I invited my friend to try out the gym using a guest pass provided directly by LA Fitness. The pass had a valid barcode and all details, yet when we arrived at the Pico Rivera location (8909 Washington Blvd), the staff refused to let my guest in.

They said he must either have a paid membership or pay a one-day fee — even though the whole point of a guest pass is to let someone try the gym before joining. This is not only confusing but embarrassing for members who bring friends in good faith, expecting LA Fitness to honor its own promotions.

If guest passes aren’t accepted, then don’t advertise them on your website. This kind of experience makes the entire brand look misleading and untrustworthy. I expected better from LA Fitness.

Misleading and Unprofessional – Guest Pass Is a Total Scam

I visited the LA Fitness Pico Rivera location (8909 Washington Blvd) with a valid guest pass that was emailed to me directly from LA Fitness — complete with barcode and all details. After walking about 30 minutes to get there, the front desk staff told me guest passes are not accepted unless I pay a one-day fee or already have an active membership.

This is completely misleading and dishonest. Why advertise free guest passes on your official website if your staff refuses to honor them? It feels like a bait-and-switch tactic just to get people to show up and then pressure them into paying.

The staff didn’t seem to care at all or even try to help. Their attitude was unprofessional and dismissive, which made the experience even worse.

If this is how LA Fitness treats potential new members, it says a lot about how little they value honesty and customer experience. Avoid this location — they clearly don’t respect their own policies or customers’ time.

I hate that this is my home gym, and every time I give it a chance, it disappoints me. Management needs to do a better job with having equipment ready. Today, it was handles. They had zero handles. What are we paying a gym membership for if they don’t have equipment? If you are struggling with thieves taking your stuff, do a better job finding who they are and revoking their memberships.

I always come to this gym with my husband and we have never had an issue with the gym itself except the front desk associates, especially the girls who work up front, one of them in particular who is thin, wears eyeliner, and dark hair always has a terrible attitude and leaves the scanner to scan for the barcode in the entrance all the way at the bottom so it feels like I have to put my phone all the way to down HER while she is sitting down. She’s extremely disrespectful and if she doesn’t like her job then she should go elsewhere. The workers only have 1 job by sitting on their butts and greeting or scanning and CANT EVEN DO THAT! People come to the gym to be better and work on themselves, and are often going through things like for example, the loss of my father! so kindness does go along wayn with that being said ALL you guys need to work on your customer service and put your crappy attitudes aside! I am writing to formally express my concern and dissatisfaction with the experience I had at Pico Rivera location on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. I visited the facility after receiving a 3-day free trial referral, intending only to explore the gym before making any membership decisions.
During my visit, I was approached by a staff member named David Rojas, who pressured me into providing sensitive banking information, despite my clear statements that I was not ready to commit. I initially told Mr. Rojas that I did not have my debit card with me. Nevertheless, he insisted I log into my bank account from my phone and recorded my account and routing number.
Following this, Mr. Rojas called me to request my card information over the phone, which I declined. I told him I would decide by Friday, July 31, whether or not to join. However, when I called to notify him of my decision not to enroll, I was shocked to learn from him that he had already processed my personal information and activated a membership without my consent.
During my phone call with David Rojas on Friday, July 31, when I told David Rojas he was taking advantage of me and I would be calling my bank to notify them about the this, and will also be submitting a formal complaint due to his misconduct, he responded dismissively by saying, "Go ahead, it’s a free country." This unprofessional and sarcastic remark further reflects his lack of accountability and disregard for customer concerns. His tone and response were both inappropriate and indicative of a broader issue with how customer interactions are being handled at this location.
This is unacceptable and unethical. When I voiced my objection, Mr. Rojas claimed there was nothing he could do to reverse the action, essentially confirming that he acted without authorization.
Furthermore, I contacted the location to speak with a manager and was transferred to an individual who identified himself only as “Alex.” When I asked for his full name, he refused to give it, and mockingly responded with the name “Kobe Brian,” which I believe was not only false but highly unprofessional and disrespectful.

I’m switching gyms after this, the lady Sandra Rivera is so rude. All day everyday she’s on her phone and doesn’t even greet members at all. I’ve been going to this location for almost 2 years now. I would like to voice major concern with another location in pico Rivera. The manager Sandra R has made inappropriate statements when bringing any concerns to her about the broken glass (mirrors) and broken equipment. The boxing bags have been out of service for 2 month. Glass has not been repaired for over 6 month.

The manager expressed she doesn't care if we report this to corporate as she knows the highest up and is untouchable. She is very unprofessional being on her phone on social media. She doesn't take action on fixing equipment. I found it conflict of interest her daughter works at the same location and favors her. I believe the location needs to regroup their management team. Repairs should not take months.

This location is greatly important because of the boxing and cross fit area. This causes the loss of customers due to lack of customer service and broke equipments. Many regulars have expressed the same concerns. If work is out sourced with a third party. Would recommend contracting staff who is available to fix the repairs within reasonable time.

I would like to acknowledge how wonderful the cleaning staff has done over the years. They do not get enough credit. Thank you for having a great cleaning staff.

For the price, they can do a better job:
- Every other channel is on CNN, which is politically biased.
- Music too loud sometimes, especially when some trainers really overdue it and bother everyone else. They even open the door! When I tried to close the door since they are sooo loud even for upper floors, one person complained that they are too hot inside.
- Half the time, they don’t have wipes available to clean the machines.
- Third of the machines don’t properly work, which is a hazard.

I never leave reviews, but this is hands down the worst gym I've been to. You pay $50 a month for the most mediocre gym experience. Nobody re-racks the weights, and the staff definitely doesn't bother to either. The machines are constantly out of service, and they take FOREVER to fix it. At one point one of the Lat row machines was out of service for like a month ( And there's only two of those machines...) They have way too many leg machines (But only two squat racks, because some very smart person decided it was a great idea to only put two of a machine that's constantly in demand) and not enough machines for literally everything else so If you hit legs a lot and love being overcharged then this is the spot for you.

I need to leave the country for a few months and had to cancel my membership. They charged me for an extra month and claimed I agreed to prepay for a month when canceling, which I do not remember. When I signed up, I was promised I could cancel anytime without hassle. This is ridiculous. Planet Fitness is half the price and offers 24-hour locations.

This place was amazing! I came from Nova Scotia, Canada for a visit and Alex took care of me with a free weekend pass! He was awesome to work with and he continued to check up on me to make sure I was satisfied with the gym! They had everything I needed and more, there’s a pool and a basketball court inside the gym!!! If you go to Pico Rivera, call Alex and go to LA Fitness, he’ll take care of you! GO TO WHITTIER! I showed up to Pico Rivera at 6AM with a guest pass to try this gym out again and the front desk girl said I had to come back when the sales reps were in. Keep in mind, the reps aren’t there all the time (I’ve been a member before). She said “I can give you a complimentary day pass but you won’t be able to use your 7-Day guest pass”.. so let me take 1 day and lose 6? They also ask for ID. This is NOT in their instructions. Go to the Norwalk esporta or La Habra that is way cleaner and you can actually find weights. This pico location is the worse they don’t rerack weights and there are lot of missing dumbbells. Staff is away using there cellphone when I walking to check in myself. They should rerack dumbbells every hour like La Habra I see them walk every 40min to rerack weights and dumbbells. They should learn from La Habra location. Don’t go here if you want to lift weights

Lower Your Expectations

If you are searching for a gym with an incomplete assortment of weights (no 5lb or 10lb plates, no 10lb or 15lb dumbbells), equipment that is consistently broken (the sole rowing machine has been out of service for about one year and counting, missing 5 out of 6 TRX cables for more than one year), and barbells/dumbbells that are never placed in their designated location, but instead hidden throughout the facility (requiring time-consuming games of hide-and-seek), then look no further: this is your spot.

An additional feature, free of charge, is that the bathrooms are filthy - litter strewn about the locker rooms and shower stalls, putrid toilets overflowing with excrement, and floors covered by slimy sludge.

Repeated pleas to the staff over the course of many months were met with sympathetic ears, but zero results. All of this combines to create an experience that is very unpleasant overall.

Day after Thanksgiving was excellent hardly anyone there until later. This left plenty of machines, and equipment to be able to get a good work out in. There was a member in the men's sauna who asked us other members if we minded if he sprayed the heating system with water and eucalyptus . I said yes that is not what it is for that is why the system keeps breaking down because of members like you spraying it, and then it breaks down . I said that is not fair to us as members who do pay dues as well. I said they have signage up asking not to spray the system with liquids or it will short out.He said I never seen the sign . I said it's always been up. People either choose not to read it , can't read , or just do not care about any other member but themselves. He said you need the humidity or vapors . I said no you just need to shorten your time in here.

I was honestly disappointed in this location.

I used to come to this LA Fitness back when I was in high school as a regular and at that time (2017) this location was one of my favorites. I lived in Downey, but would commute to this location due to the great equipment this gym provided, plus this location would not be as occupied as the Downey location. I stoped coming to this location due to College and moving out of the area. Now I come back to my hometown in Downey as a regular Downey LA fitness member when I hear from one of the LA fitness employees that the “Pico Rivera location has been modified and upgraded”since the last time I visited back in 2017. I decided to revisit today (Monday, January 23 2023) and I must say I was not pleased.

I decided to visit this location at around 7:00pm. First off, it was packed. Second their weights were very limited and all being used. Third the cable machines at the back were all broke (Out of order) and the one cable machine that was available was being taken and hogged up by a group of high school youngsters just messing around with the cable machine. I’m a huge fan of the sauna but was not pleased at how small the sauna was at this location. I will definitely not be returning to this location again unless the Downey locations are closed for what ever reason.

I do have some positives to mention.
I loved how there were plenty of treadmill’s available for the members upstairs and a new football field looking area in the middle of the gym. This is definitely great for the people that love to lunge across the whole room to show off they’ve been working on their glutes and not missing a single leg-day. Last but not least, I loved how this location had a huge hot tub for both men and women to share, great for members that love socialize and mingle.

If it weren’t for those positives that I noticed, this location would receive a one star rating. I highly suggest for someone to mention some recommendations or even some complaints on this location to the manager of the building to try to get some real upgrades for the Pico Rivera location. I believe the Pico Rivera resident members would really appreciate it.

I’m Just saying, not hating. I continue to love LA fitness over any other gym overall.

Im very dissatisfied with this branch. I was offered the freeze option for free if I ever needed it. And I was just recently injured and I wasn’t suppose to do any activity for 3 months and when I went to redeem this option they said it wasn’t real. So either their corporation is a bunch of crooks that will say anything for you to sign up or none of them know what their talking about and make up their own deals. I even canceled my subscription cause I was fed up and they secretly put my account on the freeze option where I’d be paying 10 dollars a month. Im better off going back to planet fitness

One of the most disorganized LA Fitness aside from the Downey locations. People don't rerack the weights and they leave DB's all over the place. Oh, don't forget your belongings because people don't turn in items left behind by others. I forgot a black Columbia jacket and it was not turned into lost and found.

Half the pins are missing from the machines, the cables don’t work or don’t have the attachment that lets you attach the different bars, the personal training area has the pins removed from the cables so no one will use them even during the weekend when there’s no personal training. This gym has gone down hill fast

They have a sauna, pool, basketball court,, cross fit type stuff and weights and different types of machines. Been going at 5am. Still pretty busy. Have to wait for free weights and benches. Overall vibe people take it very serious. I'm just a beginner so I'm alittle intimated. Haha
