I have aquatic physical therapy here.m at Spine and Sports inside 24 hours fitness. And I love it!! Its such a good class. It helps with back problems bad nerves and arthritis. The workout areas are extensive and the staff members are courteous and friendly. 5 stars for spine and sports physical therapy inside 34 hour fitness!

Good news: August 16 - The lights in the yoga room have been fixed. Thank you management for stepping up and doing the right thing.

The LA Fitness in Poway, CA, was recently remodeled, which is great to see.

However, the ongoing lack of management and care for members is consistently bad.

Before the recent remodel, the lighting system in the aerobics/Yoga room was broken, and the lights could not be adjusted or turned off during Yoga. Anyone who has practiced Yoga knows that this is essential for truly enjoying a session.
Management has been notified numerous times and is now overwhelmed by the volume of complaints, yet they choose not to address the issue. In fact they have informed employees who receive these complaints that there are no plans to fix the lighting, and when you complain on their website, they simply claim that the issue has been sent to the facility manager for action, but you never hear back regarding resolutions or see the problem resolved.

Ironically, they plan to refinish the wood floor in the Yoga room next week, which everyone knows is much more expensive than fixing the lighting.

Their behavior over the years has been consistent: they show little care for customers or members, except when it comes to signing up new members and charging the monthly fees for poor service!

IF by chance I see the problem has been resolved, I will come back and update this review.

As of 7/2/2025 the problem still exists regarding not being able to dim the lights during Yoga.

What I also find interesting is LA Fitness does not have the courage to respond to ANY posted negative reviews. They only respond to positive reviews with a canned impersonal response.

This location used to have two or three of each machine. Since the recent remodel, they have one each. People camp on these machines, and leave their towels and water bottles so everyone knows that it is "in use". It is impossible to do a circuit. No rules, no manners.

The basketball court has been converted to a weight training room. All new cardio machines. A lot more stairmills added. I tried the treadmill, but will need to get used to it. Not as many preset programs and seems more strenuous to run on it. I could get up to my usual pace.

By the way, I checked out 4S LA Fitness while Poway one closed and didn't use it. First thing, the two front desk staff were just looking at their phones without acknowledging members.

Great staff keeping the gym clean. They have kept up the good work of refilling the wipes. Also the filter of the water fountain was replaced before it went red alert.

There are inconsiderate members who like to talk loudly either on the phone or each other or watch videos with full volume in the sauna. I hope LAF puts up a sign to remind people the basic courtesy.

Ever since the refurbishment this gym has been awesome! I'm thrilled to be a member! Some times the wipes are empty throughout the place, but most of the time they are well maintained. Lockers are always kept clean, sauna is a delight, and all the equipment is brand new! Looking forward to the new glute room coming soon!

I have been a member of Poway LA fitness for over 21 years. I stuck with them through covid etc. At this point the only reason I even gave them two stars is because the staff is friendly and helpful. The big issue that has developed in the past couple years is that the use of the small four lane pool has become limited for members. When I joined, the only time the four lanes weren’t available for swimming was when it was used for aqua classes. That is reasonable and these seem popular with the members. I understand this is a multi-use pool. Members share narrow lanes with walkers and swimmers of very different levels.What they fail to tell you is that they have rented out half of the pool to waterworks for swimming lessons. This company has priority every day from 8am to 8pm for two of the lanes. That is half the pool. During these times not only are there kids running around but there are multiple family members and friends sitting on the side watching the swim lessons. Add to that on Monday through Friday they have rented out one lane to the PT business in the gym. Now we’re down to one lane for members? On weekends it is impossible to swim laps. During the week it is hit or miss. If your goal is to swim, another option could be better? I keep hoping that one day the big bosses at the corporate level of LA fitness will honor the agreement they have with their members and allow them full use of the four lane pool?

I’ve been a loyal LA Fitness member for over 10 years, but was deeply disappointed by the behavior of Regional Manager Vanessa.

She entered the restroom and abruptly, rudely told everyone to stop using the amenities and leave—with hostility and without professionalism. I was using a hairdryer for just a moment when she glared at me and demanded I leave, while others were still using the equipment. This kind of attitude has no place in a customer service-based environment.
LA Fitness needs to make better choices when it comes to leadership—members deserve respect, not hostility.

Walked into membership area to ask briefly about their fee. This location is close to my house .
The person works with membership seats at the desk , I don’t know his name . He has nothing to do , but very unfriendly . I asked some questions, but not impressed with his attitude ; therefore I left , I think the gym has too many members already, that’s why he has such negative attitude!!! Joshua is extremely helpful. He helped me book a Pilates class for myself and our daughter for tomorrow. I am so grateful to Joshua for his professional and expert service. He was so thorough that he double-checked twice to make sure that everything was entered properly so that we won't have any glitches tomorrow when we come to attend the class. I had a great experience while hunting for a gym, and yes! Is not cheap, but i was looking for accommodation,variety, cleanliness and definitely in my budget! While I have tried other gyms this particular gym came to mind because of the locations ,I decided to check it out and Demetrio gave us a tour of this beautiful gym that had just been remodel, and told us about the new and has its own room lift equipment with no waiting line! Blew my mind, from yoga,pilates (extra but unlimited sessions)sauna,pool and a kid club! Beautiful beautiful beautiful, we also tried out the one on mission valley 👶 which was clean, tons of equipment alot of people and yes! No waiting lines! Which i love, we had a great rate and we decided to be a month to month customer, we understood the contract and no string attached or a big deal like other gym's....can't say enough about Demetrio, which so nice of him gave us a free try out of the pilates and I can't wait to check out, excellent customer service, he knows what he is selling and doesn't pressure you for a deal, and definitely knows his gym 💪

This is an excellent LA Fitness location. With my travel schedule, I visit plenty of different gyms (both brands and locations). This location has plenty of space, is well organized, in great condition, and is my go-to recommendation for anyone in the Poway or Scripps Ranch area.

Dominic was outstanding in his help getting me set up and checking at the front desk (frankly he should be promoted), including his help with a tour and additional gym information.

If thinking about any potential 'cons' or negatives of the gym, my lone reason I could see potential members choosing another gym in the area would be to save a few bucks a month by going to the other 2-3 gyms in a 1-2 mile radius of this location.

But if you serious about making the gym a habit, want the upside of a gym to grow with you and you go from casual or a beginner to more serious in your weight lifting and offerings of the gym, this LA Fitness is the place to go, outstanding facility.

Love the remodel. Finally, there are enough racks so you're not waiting to do squats or bench press. The floor is padded, and I did deadlifts in there, too, but not sure they want me doing clean & press and dropping a loaded bar from overhead to the ground (I haven't asked yet). They have one sled, and one battle rope, too. Kinda wish the heavy punching bags were still around, though.

EDIT: tried a Pilates reformers class, that was interesting. I am going to keep going to them for a few weeks to see what I notice changes in me.

This is a solid 4 star gym.
For starters, there’s no steam room, limited stretching areas, and no turf. Along with that, there are limited squat, racks available.

Among other locations, this location is definitely a bit cleaner, and has a nicer men’s locker room.

However, I would also say it has a very small sauna, and I don’t think I saw a children’s play area ; did you?

Overall, I would come again if it was convenient but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come to this location.

All of the equipment is so old. You can see the dirt and rust on all of them...no sanitizer in the hand sanitizer stations. No sanitizer wipes at the stations...Bathrooms were a mess...all the weights were just out of order on the racks. To the point as to why they even label them... Frustrating Experience with Misleading Offers at LA Fitness Poway:

My wife and I decided to try out the LA Fitness club at Poway using their 3-day trial. We planned to get a classic membership, which would allow us to bring a guest, as we like to work out together.

Upon arrival, the club manager, Demetrio, warmly welcomed us and gave us a tour of the club. He then presented an enticing offer: if we signed up that same day, he would provide the second month free, covering all other charges like the annual fee. Trusting him, I joined the club with the help of another staff member who set up my account including guest entry. When we asked if there was a promo code for the offer, we were deferred to Demetrio since he was the manager.

For the next three days, Demetrio was nowhere to be found. The front desk staff repeatedly deferred to him regarding the offer. Finally, they provided us with Demetrio’s phone number to text him about the offer. When I reached out, he replied, "There's nothing that you need to do. You simply won't get charged." Trusting his words, we continued using the gym, believing we wouldn’t be charged for the second month.

On September 1st, we moved to a different house and started using the LA Fitness club at Sorrento Valley, so we had no in-person meet with Demetrio. For reference, we joined the Poway club on August 9th, but on September 9th, I saw a charge of $39.99 on my credit card. When we asked the Sorrento Valley club front desk about it, they said that LA Fitness doesn't officially provide any such offers and advised us to check with the club manager at Poway since he had promised it.

When I asked Demetrio over text, he said our next billing wouldn’t be until November 9th and sent a screenshot of our account. A month later, I was shocked to see another charge of $39.99 on October 9th. I texted him again and also reached out to customer service via email. He replied a day later, claiming, "I mentioned multiple times that we were going to freeze your account and to not use your barcode so it doesn’t unfreeze," which he never mentioned, neither through email nor in person when we were using the Poway club from August 9th to August 31st.

When I questioned him further, he provided a snip of a standalone QR code to use at the front desk, saying, "Use this code to go into the gym because we paused your account to give you the comped month." When I asked if I would get a refund, he said it wasn’t possible since my account was unpaused due to usage on October 9th but advised to use the barcode to sign in after November 9th, as the account would be paused from then.

The next month, before getting charged again, I spoke to the front desk at the Sorrento Valley club about my case. They informed me that the barcode I was supposed to use had already been activated from October 10th and expired on November 9th, and it only allowed one member entry, not a guest. They also mentioned receiving several complaints about Demetrio from the Poway club regarding this one-month free offer, which is usually not legitimate. Apparently, when a new member signs up for LA Fitness, there is some commission for all club employees. This one-month free scam is something Demetrio has been using to attract new sign ups while cutting into the Poway club employees' profits.
On November 9th, I was charged again for $39.99, and at that point, I though $39.99 is not worth the hassle and let it go.

Bottom line: It's not about the free month I was supposed to get, but about the poor communication and betrayal of trust by the poway club's manager, Demetrio. Before we signed up, he was eager to have us join the club, but after signing up, his attitude and communication changed drastically. Don't fall for this one-month scam. There are other fitness clubs that offer such promotions upfront and don't make false promises.

I had an assessment session with someone who introduced himself as the training director. Despite being very clear at the beginning of the session about my goals and the why behind being there, he kept on pushing his agenda. He was very respectful but I felt like it was more important to him to verbalise his pre-practiced speech rather than listening to me aka client regarding my needs and wants out being there.Also, I didn’t appreciate his analogies to explain basic information. It came across very condescending.
My recommendation would be stop, breath and listen, then tailor your sales speech to the person in-front of you..

The gym membership and the staff does not take the customer seriously. I showed up to have my membership canceled and they told me they would freeze it, in case I wanted to come back. I said no… at no point was I told that the freeze would still charge $10 a month. And yes, I was out in a freeze even though I wanted to cancel. I called when I saw that I was still getting charged and I specifically asked for confirmation that my membership was canceled this time. I was informed that it was. Never received a confirmation. And today I just saw that I got charged again. I have sent an email, we will see if my membership cancellation is taken seriously now. Showing up didn’t work, calling didn’t work… shouldn’t be this hard to cancel a membership.

I've been coming to the gym at LA fitness in Poway for a little over a year. They always have wonderful promotions and activities every day of the week. Program leaders will come and lead free classes of yoga, samba, and other classes which can be a great time to meet new people. The schedule for these classes can be easily accessed by anyone at the front desk or any of the representatives managing their own desk. The people are always nice, one of the best saunas in north county, and the cleanest pool and jacuzzi area. I am glad to be a member here and every month as a guest fills me with pride.

There's a nice selection of equipment, and it's generally well-maintained. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful. Working out is fine in terms of primary factors. I really liked the personal trainer I had, but she left for a job with better pay.

The downside has to do with secondary things. The place needs updating. It's not attractive like other LA Fitness facilities I've seen. The carpet is old and worn. Half of the small personal item lockers in front are either broken or locked closed. There are almost always multiple TVs not working. The A/C is kept too warm on hot days.

Overall, it's OK for the primary goal of getting a good workout but not as nice as other LA Fitness facilities. I'm not sure how it compares to local competing gyms, but that's something prospective customers might want to check.

UPDATE: I lowered my original review rating by one start. We moved to another state in a region with no LA Fitness gyms within a 3-hour drive. The contract allows cancellation in such a situation. It took many weeks and calls to do that. It shouldn't be so hard to cancel a contract per the terms of the contract.

New to this location and omg felt like I was in a 1990's PE Gym. Equipment is either old or broken and outdated. There's been a lot of rain lately so there were buckets everywhere to catch the leaks from the roof. Locker room walls have water in them. Overall Dirty and Old. I expect more from LA especially in Poway. DO BETTER!!! Take some Pointers from LA Mission Valley.

This place is a dump. If you had to describe it in a word it would be NEGLECT. The basketball court is both a health and safety hazard, as well as a disgrace. Half the court is blocked off because the floor is warped. There’s a big patch of missing wood so they just stuck a bench on top of it—in the middle of the court! The balls are all warped and deflated, but they don’t have a pump.

The staff seems nice but they don’t do anything. They sit around on their phones. How about clean the bathrooms once a day? How about find all the missing weights and put them back on the racks? How about replace the sanitizing wipes so we can actually clean after ourselves?

This is a prime example of a business capitalizing on its location, but completely ignoring the needs of its customers. No idea what these people leaving positive reviews are actually seeing.

Rude staff, not inclusive. The kids take swimming lessons here and there have been a ton of issues on the LA Fitness side. My kids have special needs and they have very much made us feel like second class citizens who come behind their gym members. (The swim school, Waterworks, has been great!)

This is a good and big gym that has a lot to offer. They have a pool, different class rooms, and tons of equipment. I appreciate that it is difficult to keep all equipment clean in a gym given the masses of people using it every day, but I would appreciate if using decent size towels would actually be an enforced rule. Some of the equipment has sweat stains all over it, some of the mattresses for stretching were actually wet because someone sweated on them and didn’t care to clean. So this place is not for me, but the staff is super friendly and you really find everything you could wish for for your workouts.

After being deployed for awhile I came back into this LA Fitness today only to be shocked (I’m not from here, so maybe it’s not shocking to locals) and disappointed that this facility has the EXACT same old equipment that it had before..YEARS ago….
Also a horrible lingering odor , doors propped open either for fresh air, lack of A/C, or both.

I don’t recommend leaving your child in the kid’s club as I found my three year old son alone in restroom.
I think they do not have an active monitoring system at child areas which could lead to any safety issues for your loved ones.

I moved back to San Diego after being gone for 8 years and wasn’t sure where I wanted to workout at again. I went into LA Fitness and the entire staff was so friendly. ALEC! is the best he gave me a tour of the gym and answered all my questions that I had. Overall it’s an amazing gym and I don’t see myself ever leaving unless I decide to move out of San Diego again. If you decide to join in. Ask for Alec he’ll give you the best customer service.

I selected this gym for it's proximity to my home. The Poway LA Fitness is clean, but old and dingy. Front desk staff is low-energy, just butts in seats. Equipment frequently has "Service needed" signs, but does get fixed in a reasonable time. There is a lot of equipment, weights plates and hand weights - big heavy ones that I've never seen used. This site has at least 7 sets of hand weights over 100 pounds, but very limited on hand weights under 25 lbs. For example, only 1 set of 15 lb hand weights available. Members adapt by using multiple hand weights (hold a 5 and a 10 in 1 hand to get 15), which seems like a safety issue but isn't discouraged by gym staff (assuming they have noticed). Personal trainers seem to have their own stash of hand weights not available to regular members. some gym members carry bags on the floor and use their bags and water bottles to "hold" machines, preventing others from using them. While there are signs saying this is not allowed, there is very little supervision of the gym floor. Overall, not the most appealing place to work out. I'd love to see what new management could do with this currently unimpressive facility.

Have been exercising at Poway facility since March . As a senior , wanted guidance on best use of equipment and someone to challenge me while understanding my limitations. Signed up for personal trainer . Began working with Chase who recognized my challenges, while encouraging me to reach my best . Chase was flexible with scheduling and showed genuine interest in my success. If you’re looking for a trainer there would definitely recommend him. Very knowledgeable and helpful .
Although would prefer newer equipment, it was functional and still helped me achieve my goals.

It just seemed like we were not welcome there, they were trying to encourage us not to use the locker room to change. To whomever is responsible for this gym - how can you even sleep at night? There are immunosuppressed people and this can be dangerous to them.

Love my experience at LA Fitness. I enjoy the amount of equipment in there, the fact that they have a bunch of personal trainers, basketball court, personal workout rooms, different activities throughout the week, and very welcoming other gym goers.
