Not a great commercial gym....gets crowded when you think it would but I go early morning to avoid the masses. It is missing 2 barbells, single fly grips and has only one movable flat bench. Also most of the barbell clamps need replaced.

The staff are very friendly in the mornings who work behind the desk but the evening and the sales people aren't as much.

Plenty of cardio machines never seen them all full. Lots of machines for each body part but they are starting to show age. Need an equipment update.

Locker rooms are in sad shape. LOTS of broken items. Floor is fairly gross as well....looks like original carpet and tiles. Most weekends the men's rooms runs out of paper towels and toilet paper. The floor doesn't get mopped so trash is rampant.

The one thing that really needs help is the cleanliness. I have seen the staff work out here and even the GM doesn't wipe down the equipment. Even in $10 a month clubs have the staff clean the machines when they are not busy.

i started going to this place after moving down for school. the equipment is okay, its really old. theres only easybars. no straight bars. the place smells bad ESPECIALLY by the free weight area and im not sure how much longer i can handle going to this gym.

This is a great workout facility, it is always nice and clean. I tried few fitness places before and they seemed to have a problem to keep the place clean thru out the day. Also, they did not put too much chlorine in the pool so your eyes and skin do not feel irritated after few minutes of swimming.

Numerous machines and free weight stations. Some do need to be lubricated and maintained properly as some do have rust. Gym lacks proper supervision as janitorial staff are not doing a proper job of making sure gym facilities are fully stocked as paper towels dispensers are empty or sanitizing stations are out of wipes and on that note, another wipe dispenser is needed as there are only 2 in the in such a large gym. Like that there is an elevator for the second floor and a juice bar. But overall it's better equipped than other recently remodeled LA fitness gyms. Like the fact that this gym doesn't have a large teenage crowd as they tend to just sit on machines texting or chatting in large numbers thus preventing the use of equipment.

I’ll be honest, the kid’s club is most of the reason for this review. The staff was attentive, kind, and patient with clear respect for both the kids and the parents. The gym itself is fine. The equipment is dated, but mostly functional. I can’t speak on the sauna or pool, didn’t try them, but everything else seemed satisfactory. The kids club staff’s attentiveness is what clearly sets the club spar as a whole.

I have been attending the Body Works plus ABS class at LA Fitness in Mira Mesa, and I cannot speak highly enough of the instructor, Dennis. Dennis is incredibly knowledgeable and inspirational, but what truly sets him apart is his genuine care for his students.
After suffering a foot injury that forced me to stop running, I was worried about losing my strength and energy. However, Dennis's class has been a game-changer for me. His guidance and support have helped me regain my strength and energy, and I am incredibly grateful for the confidence he has helped me achieve.
Dennis is truly a hidden gem at LA Fitness, and I highly recommend his classes to anyone looking to improve their fitness and well-being.
Additionally, LA Fitness is a wonderful workout place. The pool and other facilities are top-notch, making it a great environment for achieving your fitness goals.

It's been two weeks since I immigrated.
I chose this center because I went to several centers and had a lot of valuable equipment at a good membership price.
I visited without knowing if I could use a three-day customer card with my driver's license or California ID card, but I was so grateful that the manager explained it well using an interpreter and told me to exercise free of charge a day. Next time you come, you have to sign up for a membership or register your driver's license number and use a three-day pass. I couldn't sign up because I couldn't go often because I still had a lot of work to do after moving, but I'm going to register later.

Although there is an ample amount of equipment, the attention to detail and care for the actual gym member is quite horrid. I've seen gyms with less space AND less cost provide a more premium membership than this gym, which goes to show that they're more than capable of making this gym a great place. However, they choose not to by refusing to purchase new equipment and not having any well maintained areas, especially the free weights room. Bathroom stalls have obvious signs of rust of over 3 years, locker room is stuffy, the free weights area is stuffy and occasionally smells, the gym areas lack air conditioning (which is quite idiotic for a gym), and there are not enough barbells to go around during peak hours, which again is reflective that this gym would rather maximize profits over maximizing customer satisfaction. You can get your workout in, but there are other gyms that would put your money to great use and is conscious of your experience.

I had an amazing experience thanks to Isaac (the general manager) and Wesley at the front desk! Their customer service was top-notch—professional, friendly, and truly welcoming. Isaac went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, and Wesley made the check-in process seamless. It’s rare to find a team that genuinely cares about their guests, but these two absolutely do. Highly recommend!

Rude and completely clueless staff. I used to workout here. Aside from scanning your QR code to get in, don’t expect anything from the front-desk. They are untrained. clueless, on their phones all the time, and have no interest in helping you. Also, if you are charging your car at the chargers installed at this site, they will not let you use the restroom. Terrible service.

Large gym with old machines and stuffy air. All 8 Precore elliptical machines have faulty handheld, heart rate sensors. I have brought up the issues with mgmt and maybe one gets fixed for a few days but then fails again. All are currently broken, and rusty. The cardio machines are on the second floor which is prone to warm temps and stuffy air. I wish there was more airflow inside, especially upstairs. I appreciate the staff, parking, location, quantity, and variety of machines and stations.

Tried this location since it was close to my work. 3 squat racks, 3 bench press, 1 decline bench and 2 incline bench and about 6 barbells so some of the benches are useless unless you use dumbbells, which are also limited. Also the AC did not work in the weights area. The showers likely have black mold on the ceiling. Will not be returning to this location.
Much room for improvement.

HORRIBLE gym. How does a gym run out of barbells? That’s the one thing you’re supposed to have, yet pretty much everyday you can see people waiting at benches and squat racks that have no barbells at them, just waiting for a barbell to become free. It’s like a game of musical chairs — if you wanna squat, you’re gonna have to wait for someone to finish benching and then move their barbell to the squat rack.

If you bring up this issue to staff, they will lie to you that they’ve ordered some and they’re on the way. Staff pretty much know they can get away with being totally useless.

And worst of all, the weight room actually smells worse than the bathroom. Literally nothing is ever cleaned. Everywhere constantly smells. For what we’re paying, we deserve way better. I’ll change my review if they fix these problems.

Ive been going to this gym for about a year, and it's one of the worst kept I've seen. Something is always broken - the sauna, the men's showers, the toilet doors are in shambles, a third of the lockers are in bad shape. The shower floors are filthy. The sauna door has a massive gao that lets heat out. A/C doesn't appear to be working there half the time. And if you want to use the pool good luck, becuase the lanes are used by kids swimming lessons and senior citizen workout sessions after normal work hours. The staff has always been helpful, though; they've been doing their best considering the degradation of the place. Consider going to the Mission Valley location instead; that one is pretty impeccable. Unfortunately, this one is closest to me.

Pros: it's a good-sized LA fitness, and the gym location makes it convenient for those in Mira Mesa.

Cons: cheaply managed and it really shows. Machines are rusty and always breaking down as 90% of them are +15 years old, they will stay broken for weeks as well because they need specialists to fix these ancient machines, two racketball courts have been out of service since 2020, there is a shortage of bars making half of the benches useless as people take the bars for other workouts, there is a shortage of dumbbells in the 10 to 30 pound range as people take and hide them for their entire workout, the AC does not work in the basketball court so it turns into a sauna in the summer, they also don't clean the court either so it's an dust ice ring while playing, sewers always smell of mildew when using sinks in the bathrooms. To top it off, they'll walk around, and in-between your set, ask you for a number or two for them to cold call/text to try and sell more memberships. 👏 👏 👏

This gym has great childcare for my children! Not many gyms offer childcare so I appreciate that LA Fitness does. I liove coming to this gym for their classes, their selection of free weights, weight machines & cardio equipment. I also love that there is a separate company onsite that offers sim lessons for my kids and a hot tub to soak in. Thank you Issac for taking care of us & helping set my guest up with childcare so we could take a class together! She loved the experience & will be signing up!

This place is in shambles. The morning opener refuses to open the doors to cool down the club; which is over 70°. It feels like you are walking into a sauna. The management is terrible; half the tv's don't work, the ones that do work have nothing but news or sports talk on, possibly the most boring things to watch while on the 20+ year old treadmills. I'm wondering how many more years the two racquet ball courts are going to be shut down. You know the ones that were supposed to be for training class taught by a separate company. This was a bad idea from the beginning. I hope the corporate idiots who made that decision have been fired. Lets move onto the men's locker room, that is a totally ghetto. There are broker doors on the lockers and replaced ones that are upside down, that don't match. The nasty carpet needs to be replaced on the benches. The floor needs replaced in the sauna. That being said, for all the corporate mongers reading this, don't get any big dumb ideas of shutting the entire club down for a remodel. Do it one section at a time, so you can still memberships we all know that's the only thing that matters, ask anyone in sales.

I had been a member for a couple years, and started going more regularly with personal training in September 2023-March 2023. The personal training was excellent, Christian is a great trainer who upleveled my lifting techniques and showed me a variety of new exercises. In addition, the gym has a wide selection of machines and amenities including a sauna, pool, classes, etc. Staff is super friendly, highly recommend!

This place use to be great. Now it's gross. The whole place is warm and super stuffy. Feels like you can't get enough oxygen and you are breathing everyone's carbon dioxide. Feels like the same air has been trapped in there for atleast 3 years. The place also smells like sweat in the entire gym. I have been to many other LA Fitness and also many 24 Hour Fitness and this one is the only one with this sweaty smell and stale warm air problem. They truly need to steam clean their carpets to get rid of the sweat smell and they need to get some fresh air in there by installing giant fans, or turning on the AC, or atleast open a few doors to get a crossbreeze going. Other than that the equipment is good and the place is big but can't work out long if I feel hot and like I can't get oxygen in there. Hot , Stuffy, and smelly is no way to keep a Gym successful.

Frustrating experience with guest pass. I acknowledge beforehand this is very complain-y.

Was sent a VIP 7-day guest pass by a friend. I had previously used a 3 day free pass over 3 months ago. Not aware that these were the same pass and nowhere on the web forms was that stated. Arrived at LA fitness and scanned through, leaving a drivers license at the front desk. Completed workout and was held afterwards. That's when they stated I wasn't able to receive a pass, there was a system error and I shouldn't have received the emailed pass (which was sent to my email) and no QR code should be generated (which was generated and in my email). Held for an extra 20-30 mins after work out and made to pay for a day pass since I used their services.

My frustration stems from the fact that no one caught this on the way in, a system error allowed me to receive to a guest pass, and that workers were not interested in helping at all. Early on, I was firm that I wasn't signing up for a membership, just accompanying my friend who was in town, and that we had plans afterwards. It felt like they used this as leverage to hold me longer to try to strong-arm me into reconsidering a membership. Whole experience was incredibly frustrating and left an unbelievably sour taste - would not want to interact with staff again if possible (and certainly won't be returning).

Been coming here for over 15 years and the gym is falling apart. Nothing that breaks ever gets fixed. So many things wrong with this gym:

Bathrooms run out of paper towels and soap all the time.

The roof leaks throughout the entire gym every time it rains. I’m almost certain that there has to be a mold problem.

Basketball court is always messed. The players are even had to put money together to buy a new rim because LA fitness wouldn’t replace a broken one. Rim is held together by tape. We also had to find random screws to hold it up. All it’s going to take is major injury with the faulty rim.

You be the judge of this gym. I’ll post all the photos. Place is disappointing.

We play rball there and we have complained several times about the AC not working and we are asphyxiating inside de courts, we always get the same response that there is nothing they can do about it, it is annoying that they are not addressing customer complaints although we always pay our membership on time!

Update- the AC in the rball courts still not working, it is like playing in a sauna, all the players keep reporting the issue but the facility just don’t care. Poor management not fixing maintenance issues.

It's gets the job done but the machines are pretty janky and old. One of the back extension machines is always stuck and it takes me more effort to get it unstuck and adjusted than to do the workout.. also I've been to other LA fitnesses and it's just so much nicer and cleaner that it makes me feel like this one isn't worth the price I pay. Also when I first went to sign up, the manager dude was talking about how he likes that it's janky because it's "well loved" and "the first models/old machines that were built are better than the new ones anyways" like that's a stretch but ok ig.. I signed up anyways just bc of distance to my place but if u don't mind distance, I really wouldn't go here.

I was on my way to out of the gym on my bare foot(no shocks/shoes in my hand) after taking Sauna & below is conversation in front of kids room:

VERBAL ABUSER HANS-CHRISTIAN: Anyways, wear your shocks.
Victim Sagar B : Why?
VERBAL ABUSER HANS-CHRISTIAN: It's Common Sense. " YOU DON'T HAVE COMMON SENSE "( and he left and called his boss)
Victim Sagar B: Do you have rules and regulations list?
VERBAL ABUSER HANS-CHRISTIAN boss: Here is your agreement.
I have read rules and regulations and only mentioning loose term "LAF dress code" . Below are my question to VERBAL ABUSER HANS-CHRISTIAN and LA fitness management team.
1. What is the meaning of LAF dress code?
2. Can someone explain to me Common Sense Rules?(Want to know from VERBAL ABUSER HANS-CHRISTIAN )
3. I have never used equipment without Shoes and Why is it important to wear shock/Shoes on my way to out of gym when I am not intended to use any equipment.
4. Can someone provide me email id of upper management?
5. I have seen people shirtless playing basketball. So Is that OK with management? DO YOU THINK BARE FOOT IS MORE OFFENDED THAN SHIRTLESS ?

Also, I requested to provide me upper management email id and they failed to provide.
I am expecting response from LA Fitness team.

Smelly gym and locker rooms. Broken machines with signs telling you not to use it. Wood planks hanging from the ceiling in the mens sauna.
Doors falling off scratched up lockers and rusty fixtures. Not sure if they ever clean the carpets on the benches in the locker rooms or in the main gym area? Smells like smelly feet. The manager must be super cheap? With the amount of people that use this gym, they should be doing a better job. This is one if the worst L.A. Fitness clubs. It was new and nice at one time, not anymore.

Very sketchy employees here. I was sold a membership at a price, then charged a higher amount, then told that the lower membership fee was no longer available. .

They don't allow you to cancel online, and have roadblocks set up to prevent you from cancelling.

The gym itself is fine, but terrible business practices. Look elsewhere if at all possible.

Gym has so much potential yet whoever is in charge seems to careless. Invest in multiple adjustable benches. Staff could careless about enforcing rules. A single member repeatedly sits on the only adjustable moveable bench for an hour or more forcing other paying members into being unable to utilize the equipment we all pay to use. ENFORCE THE RULES AND TAKE ACTION AGAINST MEMBERS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THEM. The gym needs a serious deep cleaning, especially in on and around the dumbbell rack which smells like sewage or septic. I’m sure it’s never been cleaned. But look into having a professional cleaner steam clean the equipment so it doesn’t smell like absolute garbage…. The pros, this gym has every piece of equipment you could want. Even if there’s only 1 to be used (adjustable mobile benches). Invest in the gym and watch people actually sign up and be happy to train here. Feel free to reach out to me if you want to actually improve the customer experience. I will gladly give the advice needed to improve the gym.

The worst location and employees ever! Went there to restart a gym membership. The place was just dirty, stuffy and a very rude short scrawny asian man kept pressuring us to pay for the highest membership price! After we told him we wanted to stay in budget he tried belittling our spending habits. Didn’t like us asking questions then turned us off completely from L.A fitness. So glad because we took our business to another gym. Do yourself a favor and avoid giving them your hard earned money.

Compared to the escondido location, this location is not worth the money. I just come here because its close to my current jobsite. Be careful working out where they have the punching bags because they leave the lights off in their and you can trip and hurt yourself if their are weights or equipment on the floor. I'm not sure why they leave it pitched dark inside their, sure u can ask them to turn it on but it's only on for about 15 minutes or less and you have to keep asking them to turn them back on, and that gets into the way of your work out. Hard to get a good workout in a dark room.They always are
out of sanitizing equipment too .

They took out all of the towel dispensers on the gym floor...
They never buy or replace old Basketballs
Half of the time the only paper towel dispensers left in the Locker rooms are EMPTY.
Quality has gone way down since the Pandemic but I still pay the same...

Sauna is great, staff is very kind and welcoming. Most guests here have a kind attitude; expect people to be friendly and willing to hold doors open for you. Monterrell (front desk) was all around super courteous and a pleasure to see on my way to work out and Isaac A was professional and relatable.

I rarely write a review but this time I should talk about the worst experience I had with LA Fitness at 10535 Heater Ct, San Diego, CA 92121.

First issue: In June 2022, I contacted with Drew (General Manager at that time) to ask for changing membership fee from $45 to $35 with annual maintenance fee of $100. He worked on the paperwork for me and asked me to sign it. And I did. He told me to wait for a few weeks, someone will ask me to sign another paper when I check in and new membership fee will be activated. And no one ask to sign anything but LA fitness still charges with normal fee regularly. For this issue, I think I am okay because I work out almost every day. The price is still reasonable for me. But my trust issue with LA Fitness just began to build up.

Second and more serious issue: I had a plan to travel in December 2022. So, I contacted Javi (current Director of PT program) one month before I travel. I told him I need to freeze the PT program for a month and I will resume on January. First time, he told me to give him the itinerary to confirm the day I leave. Next two days I gave him my itinerary, he said he will put it down and let me know. (Actually I should have not given him that because that is personal information). In next few week, I constantly asked him if he process my case or not. His answers were always like: “Yes, I will take care of that”. I emphasized “ If you do not process that, it will charge me in next cycle.” He said” exactly” but DO NOTHING! On the day of new cycle. LA Fitness CHARGED me for PT program again! I came to talk to Kevin (new General Manager). Kevin said that he will ask Javi to call me by 11am that day (Friday 12/02/2022) but I did not received any news. I texted him back and tried to call at 1PM. He texted me: I asked Javi to call you. (So disappointed!)

I came to meet Javi directly. He said that because I was actively in training program. If he canceled it I would not be able to book the training sessions. I told him that you said you process this and I DO NOT NEED to book sessions in December. He replied the start of freezing will be from the day I fly and I will not be charge in January. He apologized me. I actually do not need his apology, I just need this freezing working. Otherwise, I will be charged again for no reason on January. He said that he will freeze it right after the talk with me and I will receive confirmation email by the end of Friday or if not by Monday (12/05/2022). He also said that if you do not use the sessions, it will be refunded.

And guess what’s happened? NO EMAIL WAS SENT! I came to Javi this afternoon! He said he received a message from his manager asking if my case got refunded or deferred to January. Haha, I DO NOT BELIEVE in whatever you say any more! I ask him to immediately cancel my PT program so I don’t have to deal with this issue in the future. He said I cannot get the refund and I have to use as many sessions as I can book this week before my flight! OK! I think I am fine with this! If I do not get out of this program and just believe in his promise I may loose more!

Other than that, I have very good experience with the Trainers here. They are professional and nice!

I attended this gym for a few years and signed up for the personal training for a year plus. My P.T was Wesley and I highly recommend him. If I would rate him single I'd give him a 5/5. However the gym itself had some issues. towards the end of my membership. I was going to have to eat through some Personal Trainings because my membership would expire before I could finish them, I can't remember the exact words staff told me but i was basically told that I would be able to finish them up. Guess not.

Overall, friendly staff very, friendly and smart trainer, but misinformation towards the end really bummed me out. Average overall experience.

Fred was very helpful; I was very overweight and needed some guidance despite making progress in losing weight by myself.

Fred really opened my eyes and helped play out what would offer a solid plan to better myself. Unlike most specialists that I've spoken to in the past, he made things very clear and patiently helped me with all my questions as well as making sure that I understand. He kept me moviated and was overall a great source of moviation as I kept on going and going.

Place is great, folks are friendly. Had an awesome session with a Fitness Director, Fred Castro along with a friend of mine for our first times and he killed it. He taught taught us a lot of things we needed to know about our bodies and even gave out a simple workout plan with estimated numbers to achieve results we wanted. Then did a full body workout where he explained the basics of proper positioning and breathing to help with our future workouts. Overall a great experience 10/10

I decided to sign up for the gym which I've never done so before and thought it might pressure me to go more if I'm paying for it. I decided to visit LA fitness since it is close to where I live and more affordable than some of the smaller yet more high end gyms.

I met Drew who was extremely polite and gave my fiance and I a tour of the gym. From intitial looks, it felt pretty standard, spacious with lots of equipments, not too crowded (weekday around 4pm), pretty clean, and they're multiple areas for different workouts. I had already gone with the mindset that I'm getting a membership, but didn't feel much pressure for signing up for one which was nice. He then scheduled my first free fitness evaluation with a coach Fred Castro.

After just having my session with him, I had a blast! He accommodated both my fiance and I for the evaluation and although I found out how out of shape I am, I couldn't have asked for a better person to work with on the start of my journey to get fit. He was patient in all the different exercises that we did, went over my goals and how I could improve my diet / workouts in order to achieve it, and answered all questions that my fiance and I had. Thank you Fred!

My friend and I had a great experience with Fred our fitness trainer! He was super friendly and professional! He showed us multiple exercises to workout muscles in areas that we normally don’t use or stretch. It was nice that he was able to do the exercises with us to motivate us to keep going.
